36 Is Tanner one of those 1990s painters who painted stuff on-stage, with dramatic music... using a brush in each hand and a lot of flair to apply paint to canvas... and then after about five minutes, would turn the painting upside down to reveal that it wasn't just a mess but a halfway decent picture of something -- if you were to paint it in five minutes, upside-down?

Really Who can decipher what is going on on the boat's deck? The artist probably painted a thousand of these, identical, giving each a different title. Boat Thieves At Sea. Lobstermen At Sea. Fishermen Heading Home. Fishermen Heading Out To Sea.

112 I like the point of view. The slight, high angle shows the many shades of rich blue that an ocean can display. The swatches of color (Impressionistic?) emphasize the constant movement of the water. The way the boat points to the left corner away from the breakers gives a dynamic feel to the painting. It's very effective. I would certainly hang it in my office.

Conservators discovered this painting on the back of Henry Ossawa Tanner's Salome during restoration. Early in his career, Tanner painted marine scenes that showed man's struggle with the sea, but by 1895 he was creating mostly religious works. In this painting, Tanner depicted a passage described in the book of Matthew: "But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary." The surging sea pushes the boat to an almost vertical position, revealing the fishermen that Tanner rendered as dabs of paint.

If (When?) it's an open Dem primary in 2024, I don't think Bernie runs. That means there's an opening for a fake far leftist, contemplative opposition grifter to get some fame, wealth, for relatively little work. Warren wanted the job, but she's insufferable. AOC is working for it, but it too dumb for that kind of spotlight (and THAT'S a low bar). Not sure who's the heir apparent.

I think Bernie has already said that he's going to run, though there's no official announcement.

They need their own Trump. Anyone actually in Democratic politics at this point is an establishment tool, even AOC. If AOC were to suddenly get an opening towards that level, she'd maintain a facade of progressive independence but it'd be easily pierced with any challenge.

The problem is that the establishment is all in on the woke shit, at least the facade of it. Any outsider who wants to go against the establishment is going to have to go against wokeness to differentiate as well as to appeal to the disaffected voters within the party. Since the establishment controls the media arm, they won't allow that candidate to get any kind of media oxygen to carry their message. There won't be Joe Scarborough promoting Trump because he thinks Trump will be a disaster for the party because they want the D's to succeed.

TJM - I've been saying this since the 2016 primaries. A large part of why I supported Trump was because he was blowing up the system (on our side, anyway) - the GOPe had gone around bend and wasn't listening to its voters any more.

Dems could use someone to blow things up and bring them back to some core American values. I just have no idea who that person would be. I'd be scared it'd be a nut who would bring them further left rather than back to the middle.

I think a Democratic Trump would essentially be...another Trump. Another candidate who wanted to return to Democratic policies of the 1980s.

Strong borders, a strong economy, election integrity...all these things are popular with Democrats. They are derided by the powers within the party, though.

That's why Biden won the primary in 2016, I think. Out of all the first, second, and third tier candidates, he was the one with the combination of an aura of moderation and name recognition that just kept him around.

Biden simply wouldn't go away. He stayed at the top of the second tier of candidates in 2020 for months while the establishment media pushed other candidates one after the other. From Kamala to Warren to Buttigieg to Beto, they kept trying to push a great progressive hope into the top slot, but the voters wouldn't go for it.

Bernie was going to win it. Biden kept chugging along with his 25% support until the establishment realized that it was either Biden or Bernie. They chucked the rest and threw everything behind Biden.

People in a south-western Japanese city have come under attack from monkeys that are trying to snatch babies, biting and clawing at flesh, and sneaking into nursery schools.

The attacks - on 58 people since July 8 - are getting so bad that Yamaguchi city hall has hired a special unit to hunt the animals with tranquiliser guns.

The monkeys are not interested in food, so traps have not worked.

The animals have targeted mostly children and the elderly.

The TX GOP have allowed this to happen because they refuse to even consider going back to 1 day in person voting with absentee ballots only for military and infirm.

All major cities in TX and every red state are being overrun by commies and eventually they will get big enough (like Atlanta) to be able to credibly steal statewide election after election the same way Detroit, Philly, etc. have been doing for decades.

And it is all happening because the cucks on the right that we send to our state legislatures don't want to be called "racist" by commies so have allowed early voting, mail in ballots, etc.

419 Chip factories are about 98% automated so the labor costs are extremely low and the level of productivity is what you are willing to spend on the facility itself. The problem is getting the rare earth materials for the chips. Right now China has a lock on the supplies for the entire world.
