The Morning Report — 7/21/22

black2.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and the Capitol police want you to know they're outraged — outraged! — that shrill, unfunny, bespectacled geek/public hector Stephen Colbert's band of "pranksters" who trespassed in the halls of Congress, looking for GOP politicians to harass (or worse) got let off the hook.

The statement is addressed to Rep. Rodney Davis and Rep. Jim Jordon who had asked about the incident with the Colbert employees. It’s a bit hard to read, but here’s the gist:

The Colbert employees, despite being warned about their conduct, were wandering unaccompanied through the Capitol making a ruckus and attempting to harass conservative members of Congress. While it was true that congressional staffers had initially allowed them in, the staffers had then abandoned them to roam about. It also turned out that Colbert’s employees had learned in advance that they were not allowed to roam through the building.

In other words, just like most of the January 6 defendants, the Colbert employees had been invited into the Capitol. But then, unlike those January 6 defendants who wandered, awe-struck and peaceable, through Congress, believing they had the right to be there, Colbert’s employees tried to make trouble, knowing that doing so was forbidden.

The final words of the Capitol Police’s letter, over the signature of J. Thomas Manger, the Chief of Police, are worth nothing:

It is unfortunate that despite all of the evidence the Department presented, including that the group or its leader had been told several times that they could not be in the buildings without an escort, that the U.S. Attorney’s office declined to prosecute any members of the group of Unlawful Entry.

This letter confirms what conservatives have long suspected: What we are seeing played out in the Biden [junta] is an openly ideologically corrupt judicial system. This cannot end well.

Actually, I'm kind of shocked that the Capitol Police even responded like this at all given the fact that they are directly controlled by none other than Malig-Nancy Pelosi herself. Given the insanely politicized nature of law enforcement these days, whoever on the force penned that letter (I can't find the names of the authors) has some mighty big brass balls. But that said, considering that Ashli Babbitt and Roseanne Boyland were assassinated in cold blood by law enforcement and/or their confederates, the former shot and killed by Capitol Police lieutenant Michael Byrd, the letter is galling in the extreme, regardless of its truthfulness.

Where were the Capitol Police when Michael Byrd assassinated an unarmed woman, and where was their outrage at the justice system that declared his act of cold-blooded political murder was not only unpunished but actually hailed as an act of heroism? Sadly, as commenters here have reminded me, even people like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul hailed the actions of law enforcement on January 6th when, in the cold clear light of day, it was law enforcement in and around the Capitol that aided and abetted in the sham FBI entrapment sting that has been used ever since to prosecute and persecute innocent American citizens all the way up to and including President Trump himself.

Sorry, but I'm not buying your outrage. It's 18 months too late. The country is going up in flames, or rather being set on fire by your employers and all you seem to care about is keeping your pension secure. And spare me the "Blue Lives Matter" bullshit, since your behavior during the General Tso's Sickness lockdowns showed us all that you'll follow orders no matter how outrageous.

If you are among those still perplexed by the failure of the police in Uvalde, Tex., to respond decisively to the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary School, recent news from Chicago may help you understand how it may have happened.

On Saturday afternoon, Chicago police received a Shotspotter alert that ten gunshots had been detected at 615 South California Avenue, on the city’s West Side. An officer monitoring the Shotspotter system accessed a camera in the area and saw that the shooters had exited a white Dodge Charger with a black hood. The three men returned to the car and drove off. The first officer to arrive at the scene found a man dead from gunshot wounds.

A further description of the Charger was broadcast to officers, including its license number. The car was reported stolen, and hours earlier it had been involved in a shooting in which no one was injured.

Eight minutes after the initial report of the shooting on California, patrol officers in the nearby Lawndale neighborhood spotted the Charger and tried to pull it over. The Charger sped off with the officers in pursuit. When the Charger sped west into the neighboring town of Cicero, a Chicago P.D. sergeant instructed the officers to terminate the pursuit. As of this writing, the murder suspects have not been arrested.

Chicago is more than a thousand miles from Uvalde, but it is no less affected by the type of sclerotic, risk-averse management philosophy that allowed hundreds of cops to stand by outside that unlocked classroom door while children and teachers bled to death inside. . .

. . . I’ve been writing about this trend toward timidity in police work for years (most recently here), and the trend seems to have accelerated since George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis two years ago. Police officers seeking to advance within their departments know the next promotion can be scuttled by even a whiff of controversy, so they conduct themselves so as to avoid any incident where things might go wrong. This strategy is successful for many, and as I look over the current roster of Los Angeles Police Department command staff, I see several who I knew as patrol officers or newly appointed sergeants. Some of them had a pattern of being the last to arrive at a hot call (if they arrived at all), and I note that one of them is now the commanding officer of the same division where, while assigned there as a new sergeant years ago, she wouldn’t have left the station if it was on fire.

Jack Dunphy is an excellent writer and analyst of law enforcement, coming as he does from a multi-decade career as an LAPD cop. What he leaves out of his essay is the origin of the timidity in policing. That is the up-ending of law enforcement and the justice system by radical Marxists who claim the entirety of it is merely an instrument of white supremacy. The fact that a non-white might commit a crime in the first place is trivial. Worse, it's justified in their warped view of the world.

But there is something far more sinister. Letting criminals run wild in the streets is an act of orchestrated political terrorism, meant to up end society itself. Psaki-Psircling back, the degradation of policing itself, whereby no one in their right mind would want to actually become a cop (see also military recruiting) means only the least qualified individuals will be available to join the ranks. And as friend of the blog Kurt Schlichter notes, that is a very dangerous thing.

As my just released non-fiction book We'll Be Back: The Fall and Rise of America points out, a crucial nutrient for the growth of social/political conflict is the corruption of the justice system. A two-track system cannot endure; justice cannot be just for them. If people are not getting their end of the social contract, they will rightfully treat it as breached. And then things will get ugly.

It is beyond dispute that the left has moved from leveraging private power (via their corporate allies) to control us to using armed thugs to do it. Right now, they do it behind the veneer of the justice system, but as we have seen, that play has a SELL BY date. So what happens next? History provides a clear answer for that question – more and more armed force is used against opponents, with less and less attention paid to maintaining the pretense of a fair and neutral judicial system. From Stalin through Hitler through Mao through Castro, socialists always – always – end up sending men with guns to suppress the uppity. Don't think Biden or his heirs won't if that's the price of keeping power. They are already setting the stage – you are not a mere opponent if you liked Trump. Why, you are a treasonous insurrectionist traitor! They hate you, and they don't hide it. . .

. . . Now, we know there is also a contingent of law enforcement and the military that gets off on the exercise of power. They became cops or soldiers because they like to push people around. They can be counted on to support whoever lets them do that. These are the ones who got off hassling mommies for letting their kids run around the park unmasked.

Then there is the pension platoon, the time-servers who do what they have to do to get their money. They tell themselves they are doing it for the good of the country, their family, or whatever, but they are doing it for the money. They are loathsome. They are the ones who were slightly embarrassed to hassle mommies for letting their kids run around the park unmasked, but they did it anyway.

The rest? Aren't there some potential enforcers who won't play along? Yes, but they sadly refuse to just quit in protest – where are all the "good apples?" They either don't join in the first place – military and cop recruiting is hitting rock bottom – or they quietly move on to a police agency that is not fully woke or to another career field entirely. These tend to be the true public servants, the good ones, who won't serve if they are serving the powerful instead of the public. So, about the time the ruling caste is ready to go full fascist, you will have some forces willing to do the thuggery, if not entirely eagerly, but they are not the best or the brightest. Nor are they the bravest. . .

. . . If 30 local cops who knew the families of the kids being slaughtered refused to put their asses on the line to take on one untrained civilian half-wit, what's going to happen when they are told to go get a few million citizens with ARs (and other modern weapons), many of them with military and law enforcement training, who are ideologically committed to defending their Constitution and all the rights actually found within it?

Think the thugs might hesitate? . . .

. . . What if there are millions of anybody elses?

And what if those anybody elses are not inept dirtbags?

In that scenario, who exactly is going first through the door? The political police chiefs? The bullies? The guys who just want to do their 20 years, file a fake disability claim for their lumbago, and spend the next few decades fishing for bass?

Col. Schlichter has an optimistic take on how when we eventually do "get our hair mussed" we will come out on top. But yet again, the shattering of the illusions about integrity, honesty, ethics and morality with people and institutions you once admired is a tough nut to swallow. Human nature is human nature, even in the place formerly known as America. Ironically, it was the framers of our now defunct Constitution who wrote that article trying as hard as they can to craft a document based on trying to mitigate it. Alas, it was as they stated suited only to a moral and God-fearing people. We aren't that. Not anymore.

The same German police officers before 1933 who helped little children cross Alexanderplatz safely were, just nine years later, shooting them into mass graves on the Eastern Front, with nary a word of objection.

Think that that cannot happen here? Think again. As I commented to the Colonel at Frontpage Mag:

The ruling caste better figure out who is going to be the sucker who puts his butt on the line for their dreams of a prog-fascist tomorrow because there are millions of patriots who would gladly put their butts on the line to resist serfdom.

What will be the last straw, sir? Stolen elections? The imprisonment of citizenry as political prisoners? Show trials? Confiscation of property/livelihood on the pretext of a health emergency?
Oh wait. We've had all that already. What needs to happen needed to happen like two years ago. That said, complete economic collapse might be the spark. The junta thinks it can Cloward Piven us to socialist paradise but it might just bite them in the ass big time. Sadly, we are going to have to suffer untold pain before we come out the other side on top. If we come out on top.

So to summarize, the train expelling carbon is pulling cars that collect the carbon the train expels. Kind of like the guy who follows the parade with a broom and shovel to pickup the horseshit.

16 Great work as always, JJ. And American Think does a commendable job on Trump/ DeSantis. Although the Supreme Court doesn't merely have a Republican-appointed majority, but overturned one of the worst decisions in memory when that outcome was by no means guaranteed.

64 I was skeptical about the capital police letter until I saw it was signed by Tom Manger. He was the chief of police in Montgomery County MD and did a great job with lots of issues. He retired s few.years back and MCPD misses him dearly. He just started as the Chief of the capital police last year, he wasn't around on 1/6, maybe the outcomes would have been different.

So we need about 1 or 2 years of 9% inflation to quote unquote force the bad money out of the economy!

The Secret Service erased text messages that could help verify, or rebut, some of the most stunning testimony about President Donald Trump’s actions during the insurrection of Jan. 6, 2021.

Secret Service officials say the wiped messages were part of a prescheduled “reset” of their phones. But House lawmakers have cast doubt on that explanation for the missing messages, which cover critical moments leading up to and through the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Yep. This is where I am now, too. Any respect I had for the police as an institution is now gone. I respect specific police officers - the same as I respect specific people in any number of fields - but the police as a whole are lazy, inept, and/or corrupt to the point of uselessness.

Which, frankly, is fine. To me, the cops should really just be an investigative force dealing with crime after the fact. But if that's what we're going to do, it has to be acknowledged, and the People have to be empowered and encouraged to be responsible for their own safety.

Right now, we have the worst of both worlds - inept police forces that nevertheless look at you (all too often) as a suspect when you do take steps to defend yourself.

Compare and contrast with local LEOs and ATF agents recently visiting the polite white man in his nice upscale home - without a warrant - to ask to see his legally purchased firearms and to confirm that he still owned the firearms that he had legally purchased.

Compliant white people are safe to Law Enforcement against, up to and including illegal Law Enforcement such as this.

Call off chases against violent thugs who are 100% known criminals because someone might say something about racism, though.

Russia has started saying they might take more territory then just Donbas.

I looked at the areas they control and they have a landbridge, east of the river, to Crimea. I suspect they will take this because the people there tend to be more Russian friendly anyway.

But the longer this war is intentionally dragged on by the west, the more land Russia is likely to demand.

The people of Donbas should have been given their promised autonomy to begin with which would have headed off this whole war.

Sixty plus years of the lie "violence never solves anything" with the last couple of decades of the American Emasculation have taken their toll. No one is willing to be the one who starts the shooting.

As long as the Feds keep it low key, and can paint anyone who does object as kooky like the Branch Davidians, normies are unlikely to start shooting until too late.

That's the thing. You're not going to get jackbooted thugs going door-to-door confiscating guns. Not yet, anyway. You're going to continue to get these incremental "compromises" (really capitulations) which encourage fewer people to have guns in the first place.

The Uniparty - despite Donkey-Chompers and her little gang - are quite willing to play the long game.

++++
I think there's another factor. I don't know, but I've been suspecting for a while that the technology has become a hindrance because of the degree to which police forces depend on it for everything. The article lays out the full sequence of events - detection, dispatch, tracking, pursuit, withdrawal - and most of it is high-tech.

Automated systems detect the incident, identify targets and dispatch cops to intercept. It's very clean and hands-off and isolated and remote. Men watching alert boards are going to have a different attitude from men looking at the world. In addition, anything outside that electronic dragnet is much harder to find because those skills are no longer developed.

We have an automated, essentially robotic system. That system responds within its own context and, being a sanitary and bright system, has trouble with dirty and dark reality.

Or that's all nonsense. I have nothing to support it. Just a gut feeling

Presumably, calling off the pursuit was a human decision, so that kind of argues opposite what I think you're saying.

That said, so much technology has a lot of very negative consequences when it comes to privacy and presumption of innocence.

It used to be the cops had to wait until there was an actual crime committed. Now, people are so scared they want the cops to act before the crime - which necessarily means treating people who have committed no offense as though they are active criminals and leaves no room for the person to come to their senses on their own.

Everyone is afraid of death, and therefore afraid to live life and accept the consequences of others' free will.

Every year ERCOT warns about usage right at the height of summer (duh). At this point, we're definitely behind the 8-ball even if saner minds prevailed, but I don't think we're even *trying* to increase capacity at a rate commensurate with our rate of growth. So *of course* we're taxing the grid.

This is a much, much wider phenomenon. See also: education. Good teachers quit in disgust and go do something else. I had one of those few great teachers in my shop class. Young guy, skilled, good at managing the environment, kept people from being too stupid, really cared about his students, affable, approachable, fair, etc. Ideal teacher archetype.

We were friendly. When he quit my senior year, I asked him why. He was pretty blunt. He said something along the lines of, "I wanted to be a teacher. I like technology and I like you kids, so it seemed like a good idea. I wanted to serve my community. What I found was this bureaucratic mess that is bad at its job and keeps me from being good at my job. You guys are the only thing I'm going to miss about being a teacher."

Now, people are so scared they want the cops to act before the crime - which necessarily means treating people who have committed no offense as though they are active criminals and leaves no room for the person to come to their senses on their own.

Everyone is afraid of death, and therefore afraid to live life and accept the consequences of others' free will.

232 We've increased legal population by 20% in the last 20 years by immigration.

Stop immigration and send the illegals home and we'd have enough electricity to for quite a while without increasing generation.

But...we should have a major coal plant building program going on. We have massive reserves of coal and we should be using it. It will give us plenty of reserve electricity capacity and serves as jobs for people that don't want to "learn to code".

Do this on the west coast and you can permanently solve water shortages as well by converting ocean water.

The upshot of a system that self-selects for incompetence or malice is that there is little if any downside to terminating that system and little collateral damage. Closing down LE agencies, public schools, etc., throwing them away and building new versions with new people will have little downside. It won't be cost-free or risk-free, but we're not losing masses of high-quality experts who are the only ones who can do the job.

Still call your lawyer, and don't say anything to the cops except "I want my lawyer."

You'll have to consult said lawyer about whether you allow them to serve it without counsel present. In some (many? most? all?) jurisdictions, you can have your lawyer present while the warrant is being served, so they would (presumably) have to wait until your attorney arrived to actually act on it anyway.

271 The second you put the charging receptacle into an EV it will draw however many watts, volts and amps it is designed to draw. That's the issue with the grid. A couple thousand of those all hitting the grid at the same time, or roughly so is going to crash it. They draw considerably more than the typical household A/C unit.

I very much doubt that. I think it's much more likely that it's exactly what it looked like: an accident. They screwed up and released their work product and then freaked out. The malefactors seized the opportunity in a big, big way.

Remember, China is killing itself over this, too. They cut off their own fuel supplies from Australia because Australia had the temerity to inquire into COVID origins. They're doing brutal and destructive lockdowns in pursuit of Xi's "zero COVID" policy. It's being economically destructive there at grand scale. The knock-on effects are toppling countries that owe China billions. This hasn't been great for China's economy, stature or civil order. Even if Xi *wants* to decouple and rebuild China independently under purer Party control - and he might - this would be a high-risk strategy if it was intentional. I think it's more likely that it was largely opportunistic capitalization on chaos.

Absolute certainty among the armed population that there is no recourse in the political or justice system. While the J6 political prisoners is an abhorent situation, there is still a belief that those individuals can be made whole once the political situation is fixed.

Sufficient people think that political payback is not on possible, but assured, starting in November. And yes, I can rattle of the names of people here who think that is impossible.

When enough people go 1776, then the next step will be refusal to comply with the federal leviathan. People stop paying taxes, people stop asking for permits, full non-compliance. Then we see if the cowards of Uvalde are willing to arrest their neighbors on the orders of people in Washington.

The flaw in the current Sovietation of America is they do not have the necessary secret police dispersed throughout the country. They can control DC and NYC. They can't control Morgantown WV.

Just because it sums up the "green" silliness so well, the Chevy Volt was almost the perfect approach to an electric vehicle to date. There was a gasoline engine that charged the electric batteries. The gasoline engine didn't drive the wheels at all, but you have no range limitations because if the batteries are low the engine charges them, and if the engine needs gas you fill it up.

No infrastructure needed, no chargers needed.

The electric vehicle nutjobs HATED it because it used an engine. HATE. Wouldn't buy it. Killed it off.

372 Jack Dunphy is an excellent writer and analyst of law enforcement, coming as he does from a multi-decade career as an LAPD cop. What he leaves out of his essay is the origin of the timidity in policing. That is the up-ending of law enforcement and the justice system by radical Marxists who claim the entirety of it is merely an instrument of white supremacy.

This POS excused multiple cops repeatedly shooting two women delivering newspapers in a pick up truck, that went down the street where a cops' house was being protected (after an actual shooting elsewhere). The type of vehicle was different, as were the occupants.

dunphy called it "an accident".

Also note that cops are eager to 'serve and protect".....each other. They have never been eager to protect peasants. Try reading Warren vs DC police. They abandoned three women long before the current bullshit began.

440 Palmar grasp reflex is a well-known neurologic involuntary reflex in newborns (also evident in pre-term fetuses). Not only the palm of the hand, but the plantar surface of the foot will have the same response if an object such as an adult finger is placed in the palm (or the ball of the foot) => a grasping motion of the fingers (or toes).

448 I've said before that adding an EV charger to your house is like adding a house to your house.

That is a bit of an understatement. I have gone to great trouble to reduce energy use in the house: heat-pump water heater, LED lighting and dimmers, notebook computers rather than desktop, gas and high efficiency appliances.

The A/C, also a high SEER unit, is by far the largest power user in the mix.

A lot of this was done so that I could downsize the power requirements for whole-house backup generator without the hassles of load shedding. Adding an EV is like adding several houses to the power bill - even more so in the spring/fall when HVAC is rarely ever used.

We went through a little bit of the basic load calculations a while back on an ONT or two. You want to plug in to a regular 15A 120VAC outlet with a little drop cord? It's gonna take days to fully charge.

For faster charging, with a residential service, you're talking a 50A 240V circuit, with a current of about 40A. That's 9.6kW. That's 3x what my heat pump draws in cool mode.

And that's still going to take hours and hours to fully charge a 50 to 100 kW-hr battery.

Another factor is efficiency. When fast charging these damned lithium batteries, efficiency drops to 50% at high currents. So, for every kW-hr you store in the battery, you're gonna burn another one as heat.
