Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | BLACKOUT! ONTJust kidding, although we are without power. We had a much needed storm blow through this morning, but it knocked out the power and it's still out. It came on for 10 seconds around 5, but then it went down again. Good news: The storm knocked the heat down so it only got up to 90 today, unlike the 100 degree plus days we've been having for the past few weeks. Bad news: No AC. If it goes on (or rather stays off) much longer I'm gonna fire up the genny to keep the freezers going. If I was any type of redneck engineer I'd have the panel wired so I could plug the genny in when something like this happens, but I'm not. I had a jackleg electrician do it for the Baltimore house (He was real good, but he'd lost his license after trouble with addiction), but he's not down here and a licensed electrician is required to install all kinds of safety locks which adds expense and I haven't done it yet. (Look, I'm smart enough not to flip this breaker on to accept generator power until after I've flipped that one off, disconnecting from the grid. It's not that hard. I'm smart enough not to stick my hand into the chute of a running lawn mower too, but I can't buy one without the dead-man's switch). In any event, we are without power, and that includes my computer where I have all of the ONT content stored. So this is a bring-your-own content ONT. If you have any interesting links or stories, post them! Mentioning redneck engineering reminds me of something that happened to me a few days ago, so I'll start with that. Tuesday, I bought a trailer. Not a big one, 4X8, all I need is something to take the mower up to the shop if it needs it or to haul the motorcycle around. I saw an ad on FB marketplace and scheduled to meet the guy. He's up by Lake O' the Pines, about 60 miles away, which is Texas for “close”. I get there later than intended, after 8:30, because I'd stopped off at another “close” location (40 miles away) to buy a bagger for my mower, but it was still installed on her mower so I had to take it off. It wasn't hard, but it involved me lying on my back in the dirt of the driveway blindly using wrenches up under the back of the mower while chickens pecked around my feet. In any event, it was 8:40 before I got to the trailer guy's house. Sunset. So the trailer looks good. It's homemade, but made well. Solid. The bed is thick plastic which won't rust like metal or rot like wood. I like it. Couple of concerns. #1 There are no loops for safety chains on the trailer. I can weld some on, no problem, but there's still the problem of getting it home. Fortunately, the frame behind the hitch is a triangle with the main bar bisecting the triangle from the apex to the base. I mention my concern to the seller, and he starts rummaging through his stuff. And such wonderful stuff! He could probably build a whole car from the stuff he has lying around. Side note: I call him a redneck, because he is. 25-30 years old, tattoos everywhere, wearing a wife beater. It's not a pejorative. He's got everything but a Fabergé egg in his yard to work with. He's got a very pretty wife and a house and STUFF! Good stuff! Frankly, if the shit hits the fan, run to him, not me. I'm an insurance agent. He's a man that can get things done. I can translate an EOB. Make your choice. Chose wisely. Anyway he comes up with a cable with hooks on the end. That will do for one chain. He rummages more and comes up with a chain that has a hook on one end and a loop on the other, plus another length of chain. Loop the chain through the gap in the triangle, secure it with a bolt and hook the hook onto my truck and Bob's your uncle. Issue #2. One of the tires is shot. Oh, it's holding air, but there's a deep, deep groove in it (past the steel belts). He goes off to find another tire. The one he brings back doesn't match the lugs. He thinks his friend Leo might have a matching tire, so he calls him. Meanwhile, it's now become full dark. Seller can't find a tire and rim that will fit, but suddenly remembers something. He goes off and comes back with a tire (no rim) that will fit the wheel. It's dirty from sitting on the ground, but it's damn near a brand new tire. He insists that I take it, throws it into the trailer. Won't take “Hey, I can get another tire” for an answer. So we have it all sorted, the trailer is hitched up, I've got 60 miles to go, hoping that the bad tire will hold, and it's full dark. At this point Leo arrives. He's gotten the call from Seller and had come to see for himself how he can help. That's when problem #3 manifests, and this one is all on me. The plug on the back of my truck for the trailer lights has become damaged. One of the prongs (the ground) has broken off. The truck is plugged into the trailer, but the circuit isn't complete. The trailer's lights don't work. This is a problem when it's Texas dark outside. I have 60 miles to home, much of it on very dark back roads, and without lights on the trailer, someone could easily drive up on me and hit the trailer they didn't see. Remember, it's full dark at this point. We're examining the wiring by cell phone flashlight. Then Leo notices something: “Hey, the missing connection is the ground, right? If we strip this wire we can ground it to the hitch and everything will work” I look at the wire, but it's not long enough to reach the hitch. I turn to Seller and ask “Got a length of wire?” If you think he didn't, than you haven't been paying attention. Seller comes back with the wire and I ask him “Do you have a wire stripper?” Surprisingly, he doesn't, but he asks Leo for his lighter. Seller then proceeds to use the lighter to melt the plastic coating on the wires and strip them with his fingernails. He then wires everything up and asks me to turn on the lights of my truck. It doesn't work. No lights on the trailer. Bummer, and we don't know why. In any event, it's time for me to leave. I've got an hour + to get home, pulling a trailer with no lights, and I need to get on the road. I go to pay Seller, and he just arbitrarily knocks $50 off the price, “For the inconvenience”. That's not right, it's not on him, but he insists. So I set out into the darkness, across 60 miles of Texas darkness, towing a trailer that nobody can see. Yippie. It was a tense trip. Every time I saw lights in my rear view mirror, I put on my hazards. The trailer was actually low enough that following cars could clearly see my truck lights above it, my hope was that the hazards would make them look closer and see the trailer behind me. I worked my way down to Longview on the 281 loop and then had a problem. I wanted to be on 31, but the loop dead ended at US 20, an 80 MPH speedway that goes east/west. US 20 was the last road I wanted to be on with an unlit trailer riding on a bum tire, but where I was was 10 miles away from where I wanted to be. Reluctantly, I got on US 20. My hazards were on, and I was relatively crawling at 60-65 while legions of long haul truckers blew past me at 80+ MPH. Thankfully, I made it to the exit for 31. I got onto 31 and headed home. It was now 10:30. I was almost home, but my route went past my local, which closed at 11. I'd been wound up like a yo-yo for the whole trip home so I decided to stop and have a beer. I parked the truck and trailer across some parking spaces and got out. The lights on the truck went out when I took the key out of the ignition, but the headlight switch was still in the on position. As I got out of the cab, I looked back at the trailer. WTF? One of the running lights on the rear of the trailer was on. I reached in and turned off the headlight switch. The trailer light went off. Headlight switch on; trailer light on. Headlight switch off; trailer light off. WHAT IN THE EVERLOVING MOTHERFUCK? I SPENT THE LAST 90 MINUTES SWEATING MY ASS OFF WORRYING ABOUT AN UNLIT TRAILER AND NOW THIS?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I dunno if I hit a bump that joggled something or what, but damn, that was a kick in the ass. All that stress, for nothing. Damnit! Coda: Seller and Leo were fantastic. They both called me “sir” (as I did them), and had firm handshakes and direct gazes. They both did everything they could to make not just the sale of the trailer, but the practical application of my buying the trailer and getting it home, go well. This is the America that I grew up in, and the America I revere. To the “elites”: Dismiss people as “rednecks” if you will. They are in every way better than you.And they will picnic on your grave. Vehicle electronics are always stupid. Inherited the sons jeep when he bought a truck, had a horrible problem starting when the weather was dry hot, always eventually started but very fickle. Took to two mechanics and it worked every time for them. After the second guy, it has worked for me. Only thing I can think is the second guy dismantled the ignition switch to check for issues, probably knocked a bit of corrosion off, who knows.

My next utility trailer will be one that I build, myself.
The company: "Trailer, Wheel & Frame" up in Houston sells all the axles, shackles, leaf-springs, hitch fixtures, etc. The rest is a buncha steel, 7018 rod and careful layout, measuring, cutting, welding and painting. Yeah, I can buy one cheaper. But I can build one that suits my specs, and frankly? I need to say in practice. Without those efforts, we would not appreciate how wonderful the COBs are when they put forth the, uh, effort to make such excellent posts. You can install a manual transfer switch yourself. It is easy. You just need to understand what you are doing and know how to turn off the power to the panel.
I did it, and it works really well. That is what I did early this morning when the storms blew out the power just up the road from WD. Just as I got the last circuit hooked up so that the home offices, kitchen, aerobic septic system and den were good to go, the power was restored. Texas used to be proud of their independent grid.
Texas didn't have a need for a capacity market, just a supply market back when the industry was more vertical. There was a penalty for failing to produce power. That is long gone now due to the ironically named "Deregulating" of the energy market, which ended up piling on all kinds of new regulations with no one being responsible for much of anything. Then the politicians fell in love with Unreliables and Texas went from the most reliable grid to 2nd to California as far as unreliable - and hopelessly unreliable too. ERCOT will be the end of Texas. Fortunately, I'm in SPP which is not part ERCOT or of MISO which "serves" SE Texas. WD, once upon a time in the PNW we got our power outages the old fashioned way: 80+ mph winds that took out the trees followed by epic rains that put all the Cascade mtns. snow in the rivers. It was pretty fun for the first week. At least we had hydro power once the power lines were hooked up. That TX can't supply power given they have the best fossil fuel resources on the planet is insane. Time for a Canadian/Netherlands trucker/farmer march on Austin to get this power problem sorted out is well overdue. And for proper form, FJB.

Posted by: SMH at what's coming at July 14, 2022 11:05 PM (tkvCl) I personally witnessed the complete physical removal of three coal-fired electric plants, all within Galveston County. All three were very rapidly shut-down and removed, at the diktat of the Obummer EPA. Because, "evil coal." Oh, and it was verboten to replace them with new-build Gas fired plants, forbidden by the same EPA. Texas did not CHOOSE to weaken it's grid, the choice was foisted on us by the Obummer mis-administration. Last winter's grid-failure is the ONLY thing that's held the Biden admin at bay, from making it even worse. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at July 14, 2022 11:14 PM (tkOps) 252

The dude next door, well he's down the road a bit, was a union carpenter, he's actually the brother of the dude I got my house from and actually helped build it. There is a mason farther down. Across from me there are woods, but there is some dirt road that from what I understand is actually an 800 ft driveway that goes to a farm, and a dude who seems to work on old police cars is back there also. Down the road a little farther there is a dude with a huge ass barn with a gigantic american flag painted on it. He got some heavy equipment. The dude up at the corner has some vintage Mack truck in a pole barn. He also got some ancient rusted out tractor he uses as a yard decoration, and his yard is well kept. He had christmas lights on the rusty tractor last year. Definitely some interesting people around here.

I remember a time in the late 70's, brother rode motocross. We hauled it out there with a flat trailer in the '46 chevy truck. Mom came out later in another car. Brother crashed going over a hill and the foot peg with the teeth in it fkd up the inside of his knee. Nasty bloody gash. Texas Governor is a weak governor. Sort of good only for ribbon cutting and rubber chicken circuit. Their real power is in making appointments, and Perry was exceptional in placing people in position that never produced a scandal. Nonetheless, the Public Utilities Commission is raw incompetence and corruption. They made it profitable for power generators to add wind with CCGT backups and pass the costs on to the consumer. So ERCOT consumers get third world power at luxury prices. Posted by: Reuben Hick at July 14, 2022 11:17 PM (AHeqJ) 259

I've done a rant on this before. Utilities make money by getting a return on capital investment. Utilities make no money on passed-through operating costs. A gas plant has pretty low capital investment and relatively high operating cost, but still (if there's no subsidy) has the lowest cost delivered power. But utilities don't like them because they don't make much money. Wind and solar, and especially batteries, on the other hand, have very high capital cost and very low operating cost, and they get a subsidy to boot, so utilities love them. Make no mistake, if I were a member of a utility board I would demand that they build more of them. They are money printing machines. Where the PUC comes in is that it's the only institution in the system that is looking out for the consumer. The PUC's job is to say no when the utility wants to spend bunch of money on something. Our PUC failed us. Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at July 14, 2022 11:23 PM (7B5FA) 274

And rather than use up fuel, I built small campfire "ricks" of cut 2"x2" wood, and could boil a kettle of hot water in under 5 minutes thereon. Coleman stove inside for cooking kinda comes in handy, as do the Coleman lanterns for light. Folks elsewhere on the island didn't fare as well, and a friend 20 miles up the road in League City lost 100% of his plumbing, including one commode, which shattered from the water in the "S" curve, expanding in the freeze. Nuclear is the way to go. Coal is 2nd. The reason why is this: To maximize human flourishing, you need reliable cheap energy. Nuclear should be king (but is creamed by bad PR and even worse regulator state) because it is resilient to supply chain disruptions. Coal is better than gas because coal, to some extent can be stored, but starting and stopping a supply chain is very expensive. The 3.5GW Robert Scherer plant in Georgia requires each day as many as five 135 railroad coal cars (600/day) shipments to move "compliant" coal from Wyoming's Powder River Basin to Georgia. On the far end of the house where there should have been 2 more bedrooms he built a huge ass room as a game room, probably 8-900sq ft. The late Admiral Rickover had the right nuclear advice, which was of course, ignored. Built a nation-full of standardized nuclear reactor designs, differing only in how to best fit them to the available land contours and nature of cooling water and possible impoundments. And then, have them operated only by U.S.N. nuclear power school graduates and fleet veterans. People who know how to follow orders, checklists, and have practiced SHTF drills till it runs out their ears. Sixty or seventy years later, we *might* be only on our third (Mk.III) Standardized Design, and only now beginning to retire the initial 1950s installations. If only.. And not many Americans in Kramatorsk or Slovyansk (who aren't being paid to be there), I'd guess. The 7th US Army band had been forbidden to take part, so, being mostly 20-ish colored girls, they chartered a bus and came anyway, going around and asking veterans for autographs, the whole bit. Though they used coal railed in from Wyoming, or lignite from a local strip mining operation that halted years ago. So the traffic on the Mississippi would not have effected them. America has lost its right to assess the morality of other nations.
When you have states beheading full-term infants, a sick, twisted, reprobate medical community plying children with chemical castration drugs and performing double mastectomies on adolescent girls, when you have sodomites marching in the streets with the media and government applauding as the strap on Crucifix dildos, when forcibly inject your people with experimental drugs, when you lock up political opponents without charges and hold show trials for political dissidents, when you stand down the authorities as your citizenry watched their businesses burn but arrest the citizens when they defend themselves, when you allow migrant hordes across the border to poison your citizenry with drugs and rape children, when you rig elections and arrest anyone for saying anything about it, when your leader's family walks free after consorting with foreign powers while beating hookers, fucking his niece and smoking crack. When all those things are true, you no longer have any moral ground to declare anybody anywhere as "terrorist" or "evil" or anything else. Epic baseball night.
Oldest got a double and two walks and MVP after getting back in it after a hard hit in the hand. Game was tied in the top of the 6th at 4, and then the bats came alive scoring 4 to take the game. Youngest got an out as catcher, first base, and left field. Got a double, some singles, and he got a single on a crumby last pitch after getting hit in the ankle. His league does not keep official score, but we dominated with even our weaker batters getting hits and getting batted around. I actually have to do some toilet seat swapping tomorrow. I yanked the old toilet out of the half bath, and it's the only toilet that has one of those soft close lids that close nice and slow. The other 2 baths noooo, they got the old style fast close ones, which I call dick choppers much to mrs B's amusement since she laughs every time I call it that. I'm going to put the seat I just yanked out on one of those since it seems new, and the new toilet came with one.

The safety crap on lawnmowers is getting well beyond the sensible range. The last one I bought, about two years ago, after an old Murray I had just plumb wore out. That thing lasted 25 years. My daddy taught me how to keep shit running and you keep it running until it just falls apart. Anyway, the thing wouldn't run without weight in the seat. That is, it would kill the engine. You can't get off and leave it running. Which pissed me off greatly. I don't mind the kill switch with the mower engaged. They even put a reverse kill switch. If you try to back up with the mower engaged, that will kill the engine. But realizing that is shit, they put a bypass on the ignition to let you put it a mode where you could back up with the mower running. Why do they put this ridiculous stuff on? Some damn govt. agency looks at the stats for injuries, and they find that "backing up with the mower engaged" is responsible for the greatest number of injuries. So they mandate some safety thing for that. The trouble is this stuff is marginal. You can add some safety features to something "bare" that can be dangerous, and find that greatly reduces the number of injuries with little expense and inconvenience. But, you soon get on an asymptote. To reduce the number of injuries and shit even a little bit more, you have to spend huge amounts of money and inconvenience. They don't know when to quit. Farm machinery example. Farm machinery can be very dangerous. I grew up around it, and my father taught me how to be careful. I must say a lot of that is just innate, situational awareness. But a lot of it has to be taught. And the mindset has to be taught as well. You must be always thinking, "what can go wrong here?" Some people just aren't cut out for that. Again, some people are just born that way, but other people could be better, but they just didn't learn the mindset at an early enough age, I think. Then, when my jaw is hanging open at something very dangerous someone just did, I realize. I'm thinking, "are they crazy?" No, they're not. They just weren't taught. They didn't no. I got to thinking about it all. When I was a little boy, a little kid, my father would take me out and let me watch him doing things. Wouldn't let me touch anything, but I was to watch. As a little boy, from kindergarten he'd have my ride in the combine with him. He got a little chair and had my sit in the cab. It hit me what that did. Just like a toddler learning to talk, I picked up on all sorts of shit just by watching. When it came time for me to actually take the controls, I was already well prepared. There is a lot basic stuff there, basic "common sense, self-evident" stuff we humans know that we don't even think about. An example was "water is wet" I believe. That is, we all know that water is wet. If you step in water, you're gonna get wet. A robot wouldn't know that. You'd have to program it to know that water is wet. (We seem to lump their constructions to the same time period.) One theory now is the sphinx is a calendar marking the equinox (for planting) akin to other ancient sites like the Henges we see around the world. "The Sphinx had a 'distinctive astronomical' moment with the sun during the spring equinox when, in a shining flourish, the sun set on the shoulder of the half-man, half-lion statue. . . ." Ancient civilizations had a much better understanding of astronomical events that we previously thought possible. We are so full of hubris thinking we are smarter now than the ancients could ever possibly be. I was just watching some videos of superfluid liquid helium on YouBoobTube. As Johnny Carson used to say, that is some wild, wild stuff. Superfluidity is an analog of superconductivity. In the latter, a material loses electric resistance. In the former, a fluid loses friction. Superfluid helium will happily climb up the walls of a container and run out. You can see a video of dipping cup lifted up out of a volume, and see it empty itself. Put a partition of two different levels of liquid helium in a container. Once it goes superfluid, it just runs up the walls and "finds its own level". There is a wild fountain effect. You can set up a fountain where there is no friction loss and the the thing keeps going indefinitely, spewing liquid out the top. I've read archaeologists are coming to the conclusion the sphinx is older than the pyramids by multiple centuries. (We seem to lump their constructions to the same time period.) One theory now is the sphinx is a calendar marking the equinox (for planting) akin to other ancient sites like the Henges we see around the world. "The Sphinx had a 'distinctive astronomical' moment with the sun during the spring equinox when, in a shining flourish, the sun set on the shoulder of the half-man, half-lion statue. . . ."
Posted by: RickZ at July 15, 2022 02:54 AM (ldL4g) I think its a little more crazy than that. That Sphinx head is wrong. No way thats the original head, its too small for the body, and the ancient egyptians did not have a problem with scale. It also has water erosion, and there hasn't been water there to do damage like that since 10,500 BC, and it happens to be right at that time, with the alignments of the sky of that time being what they were, that the sphinx was looking directly at the constellation Leo when it popped over the horizon. The pyramids are another thing. Something don't make sense with them. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at July 15, 2022 03:10 AM (VwHCD) 573

Here is an old film demonstating superfluid helium. '50s style, although I don't know when it was actually made. Old equipment though, and a nice Square D manual motor starter for the vacuum pump. They knew good shit back then. https://tinyurl.com/yansnwgz Note how the helium, being cooled by evaporative cooling stops boiling when it hits the "lambda point", the phase transition to superfluid helium. It's thermal conductivity jumps by orders of magnitude at that point. Boiling no longer occurs. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at July 15, 2022 03:12 AM (Mzdiz) 576

Indeed. I used to read a lot of that stuff, and ol' Art Bell used to have a lot of the people involved with that on. The Sphinx is indeed very, very old. Me, I'm convinced it was the work of a very ancient culture that was globe-spanning (the "Atlantis" of myth) that was wiped out by some cataclysm. SMOD, or something else). Maybe they went Davos/Klauss Schwabb and decided to go green and eat bugs or something. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at July 15, 2022 03:15 AM (Mzdiz) 578

I'm making my 'beef sandwich spread', my 'kitchen hack' version of the Underwood Roast Beef Spread in a can (which I like but it's way too expensive). Grocery shopping Wednesday, I found chuck steaks on sale for $3.99 a lb, so I bought a couple of pounds. Yesterday, I trimmed and cubed the beef. Then I made a broth from the bones and scraps. The strained broth is chilling now so I can more easily remove the fat. I'll cook the beef cubes in the broth until almost tender, then add a can of tomato paste, some crushed garlic, paprika, black pepper and salt to taste. I'll simmer that for an hour or two, until the meat is falling apart tender and the tomato paste well cooked, remove the lid, turn up the heat, and cook out the liquid while breaking apart the beef cubes, ending up with a thick meat paste. Then all I have to do is take a serving, heat it in the microwave to get the chill off, and spread it on bread for a sammich. Cheese definitely not optional but mandatory.
Makes many, many sammiches. Very economical. Freezes well, too. Posted by: RickZ at July 15, 2022 03:21 AM (ldL4g) 580

I'm trying to remember. Roughly 10,000BC, or 12,000 years ago roughly, was the magic date (give or take a 1000 years or so) when all this cataclysm happened. The ancient civilization was wiped out somewhere around then. Now, the Sphinx. Imagine it had an original lion head. It was a giant line. It would've been aligned perfectly with the vernal equinox occurring in Leo (the Lion) constellation back around 10,000BC. The vernal equinox occurs in Pisces now, transitioning to Aquarius (This is the "Age of Aquarius" shit you hear the astrologers talking about). Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at July 15, 2022 03:15 AM (Mzdiz) Well even the pyramids. The great pyramid is what, the 4th, 5th pyramid to be built, so they say. Nobody knew what the great pyramid looked like inside until around 700AD, but what they did know about was the descending passage. A lot of pyramids have that descending passage, as if its the only thing they could copy from the great pyramid because thats the only thing they could access. All the pyramids built after the great pyramid are rubble mounds, none are standing. If they had access to the great pyramid, and you think they would if they built them, they would have built others like it, but they didn't. None were built like that, like they couldn't do it. The other thing is no writings. Pharaohs didn't take a shit without putting their frigging name on it, and here you got this massive work, and there's nothing. Way many questions. I'm trying to remember the astronomical alignments of the Giza complex. They are many and complex. Hell, I can't even remember the names of some of the guys who did this -- Egyptologists despise them, 'cause they ain't of the body. Robert Bauval, I think. Constellation Orion = Osiris. The three pyraminds are aligned nicely like Orion (Osiris') belt stars. I forget, but other parts of the complex form an image of the whole constellation. The ancient Egyptians were big on Osiris. That's where the dead went. To the stars, specifically Orion. Hell, I've forgotten the details, but ol' Art Bell used to have these guys on detailing all of this. Then all that business about getting cut up in pieces by his brother Set. Then his son Horus, who challenges Set. I'm trying to remember some wild stuff Art Bell had one, correlated this Horus rising, defeating the evil Set with the founding of America. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at July 15, 2022 03:30 AM (Mzdiz) Gobekli Tepe, in Turkey, has huge carved stone monoliths dating to around 12,000 to 10,000 B.C. The fascinating thing about the site is the place was deliberately buried by the ancients, as if they were telling us 'we had something going on here but had to move and couldn't take our constructions with us'. That site has tossed out a lot of our current 'historical knowledge', making civilization much older than previously thought. The sphinx being as old as Gebekli Tepe fits right in line with civilizations worldwide being wiped out in a cataclysmic event resulting in a 'dark ages' of thousands of years. The antikythera device found in the Mediterranean also points to civilization being more advanced than previously thought. No aliens were needed. Humans are adaptive and creative, even ancient ones. Oh yes! Fascinating stuff, that just shoots the traditional history to hell. Oh, and the "Hall of Records" lore. Art used to have stuff on that. Supposedly the ancient civilization, or factions of wisemen therefrom, knew they were about to be destroyed and so put an archive of their knowledge an history in these Halls of Records in various spots around the globe.
