  • Just how bad is the bot situation at Twitter? (The Register)

It appears that Twitter was sabotaging Elon Musk's attempts to determine the numbers himself, and they are being very cagey with the numbers themselves.

Twitter will likely claim it was unintentional. I'd say no-one could be that incompetent, but this is Twitter we're talking about.

Tech News

  • Elasticsearch is the QNAP of databases. (Bleeping Computer)

Mangatoon (who) got breached and the details of 23 million users exfiltrated, including auth tokens from social networks.

I think if you run Elasticsearch on a QNAP NAS the universe might spontaneously reboot.

  • Netflix to staff: Shut up and do your jobs. (The Verge)
In the Google doc, one person commented, "In Ted's email to directors, he calls out that Dave Chappelle is 'one of our most popular comedians today' and his last special is 'our most watched, stickiest, and award winning stand up special to date.' My interpretation of this message is that sticky metrics outweigh the possibility of harm. Is that a fair interpretation of that email?"

Days passed, and the question remained unanswered.

The answer is, shut up and do your job. Or don't. You can be replaced. Probably by a hamster.

7 Tell me. Do you test to see if somebody has the flu by shoving a dry swab deep into their sinus cavities? Of course not, that would be an idiotic thing to do, since you would be shoving viruses deep into the person's skull, making everything much worse.

But that is exactly how they test for Covid-19, and has been since day one. Why, it is almost as though they are intentionally making things as bad as they could possibly be. Lockdowns to destroy the economy, "tests" designed to make infections as bad as possible.

22 I'm watching the Tour de France and a number of riders have been tested positive for the Vid. They then have to quit the tour. All are asymptomatic. Some of the teams are blaming it on the fans and media who do not have to wear masks. But the riders do when around the paddock area, and the paddock is roped off.

So, maybe the riders system is are under a great deal of stress from...I don't know, riding their bikes at 30 MPH for 4 hours every for 9 days with one day off?

I think most laptops only have one hdmi port. As for a dock that is made to recognize a laptop and then display? I think that a lot of that is dependent a bit on the monitor. HDMI or DisplayPort connections are pretty much whatever the monitor supports I think.

I went to the Library of Congress website. No login required. I looked for a telephone number of IL3-0922 (not the real one, just for example) and then drilled down to Pennsylvania and then Philadelphia.

It used to be we caught "the flu". Nobody went racing out to determine if it was Influenza A or B.

Aren't we ever going to give this up?

We are. Some of us already did.
But THEY won't.

87 The video at the post shows what I would expect - even in the woods, trash everywhere, zero respect for even the humblest of quarters. This is a feature of the entire third world for people who venture out of the US and beyond the gates of vacation enclaves in foreign lands - trash everywhere, limited to no basic sanitation, etc. But let's import that shit here. GMS.

In Joeys feeble brain perhaps he doesn't realize that the Saud family would prefer to sell (for example) 100 million barrels at $100 a barrel as opposed to 110 million barrels at $90.

Especially after he called them murdering thugs.

92 Donald Trump is basically the Leonardo da Vinci of bullshitting, so that's kind of high praise, really.

93 I see former NM guv Bill Richardson is going to Russia to try and get pothead basketball dude out. They got to be desperate to bring that corrupt old fuck out of retirement.

Yep. Spent three years in South America. Garbage everywhere and trash cans are mostly ignored. Garbage thrown out if bus windows and cars and over the fence into the street. There are places in some cities you are can barely see the ground. Its that bad.

These are the beloved Gaia loving indigenous people that are going to clean up our supposed mess.

Not entirely inaccurate on all levels, but still an inapt and unwise slur. Musk may take down twitter, something DJT couldn't manage.

Posted by: Ordinary American at July 11, 2022 07:13 AM (H8QX8)

98 I think Trump is unhappy with Musk because Musk backed out of the twatter deal and he (Trump) won't be able to send mean tweets as the thought he could.

I could be wrong.

Why is it necessary to label the flu bug you caught as "COVID"?

It used to be we caught "the flu". Nobody went racing out to determine if it was Influenza A or B.

104 It seems like every time that I post something on twitter I end up with one or two new follower bots. Usually from Asia, with no posts, etc... following 25 people. On the flip side, commenters on my post will have no posts, but an average of 20k replies to other's posts. So there are a lot of bots & a lot of paid trolls.
