Universal Music Group Fires "Brown and Gay" Employee Who Refused to Work-- Because He Was "In Mourning" Over Roe v. Wade

And his playing of the "brown and gay" card didn't save him, surprisingly.

Are people just finally fed up with this?

A woke Universal Music Group worker claims he was fired for "speaking up" about abortion rights -- after he admitted he refused to work because he was in "mourning" over the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Michael Lopez, a production coordinator at Universal Music Enterprises, blasted the company as "anti-gay" for terminating a "queer brown person" during Pride Month for "speaking up in defense of abortion rights," according to a lengthy note on LinkedIn that went viral last week.

"Last Friday, like countless other folks, I was devastated by the news of the supreme court's [sic] attack on abortion rights," Lopez wrote.

"Paired with the flood of anti-queer and anti-trans legislation, it's been hard to process how company's [sic] expect us to be productive while our rights are being stripped away."

Lopez then went on to explain that each Friday "one of my tasks was to process reports for upcoming releases" and then to email his work to 275 people.

But instead of doing the usual process reports, he wrote an email that read: "I didn't do them today."

"I'm in mourning due to the attack on people with uteruses in the US. Federally guaranteed access to abortion is gone," the email continued.

"Vivendi and Universal Music Group must stop donating to anti-abortion, anti-queer and anti-trans politicians. Politicians like Marsha Blackburn, Ken Buck, Victoria Spartz, etc. Or expect more unproductive days," he wrote, signing off with "Yours in fury, Michael Lopez."

Amazon employees banded together to demand time off to "grieve" the Dobbs decision.

Amazon employees upset over the recent decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade asked the company for "space and time" to "grieve" and "protest against this assault on our rights," according to a leaked letter.

The petition was reportedly signed by hundreds of employees at the Seattle-based retail giant, according to Insider. A copy of the petition was posted online by the Twitter account "Libs of TikTok."

The letter also demands that Amazon "cease operations in states that enact laws that threaten the lives and liberty of abortion seekers, either by denying healthcare in life threatening circumstances or by criminalizing abortion seekers and providers."

Amazon's human resources chief Beth Galetti on Friday implored workers to "be respectful of everyone's perspectives" after arguments over abortion broke out on the company's Slack platform. The fights reportedly erupted in the #christians channel, according to Insider.

I never saw an update to this story. I don't think Amazon granted the time off, but I'm not sure.

Dungeons & Dragons fans, it might be time to abandon the official game and just go OSR (rules based on the original ruleset): the woke idiots that make D&D, and who have been injecting trans characters all over the place and offering characters' pronouns in a game set in a quasi-medieval era, are demanding that their parent company, Hasbro, do more to protest the Dobbs ruling.

Note that Hasbro is mostly a company that makes family-friendly games like Hungry Hungry Hippos.

But D&D game designers feel they need an official policy in favor of abortion.

Employees at Wizards of the Coast, famed for publishing tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, have staged a walkout in response to its parent company's "lackluster" answer to the dismantling of Roe v Wade.

In a statement published to a brand new Twitter account, Wizards for Justice, employees lambasted its parent company, Hasbro, for a poor response to the ramifications of the Supreme Court ruling. Apparently, the company sent out an email to staff which prompted the response. "We, as employees of Wizards of the Coast, are frustrated, disappointed, and completely dissatisfied with Hasbro's out of touch, tone-deaf, and lackluster response to Friday's Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade," it said. "This decision, that healthcare for marginalized individuals is a privilege based on location and means, violates basic human rights."

As a result of what employees feel is a mishandling of the situation, Wizards for Justice announced its encouragement for employees to walk out in protest and take a day to "reflect" on the situation. "On Wednesday, June 29th all employees are encouraged to take a day to reflect, nurture mental health, and show solidarity that Hasbro will not," it said. "Decisions like this cause suffering and it's this that we ask, on the same day, Hasbro leadership to reflect on. Particularly, how messaging like this violates and stands in the face of a diverse and inclusive workforce and creates yet another burden for already marginalized people."

Disgusting.

Not another dime.

Actually, I kind of support this from a pragmatic standpoint. They should absolutely go on strike. Then those who remain will probably get a lot more work done, and the act could potentially backfire hugely on the people who do it. If it doesn't, the non-woke could go on a counter-strike and these companies will start to fracture and fail.

My freshman year of college, there was a group that played D&D in the snack bar all the time, all hours of the night. We called their 'leader' butter eater because it looked like he just oozed oils from everywhere. And, his teeth had a weird green tint to them.

They had a girl that hung around them. I think they passed her around like a joint at a Stones concert.

I think there could be a real market for a software platform that is designed to do exactly this. Ingest the candidate's resume and use AI to identify school, degree program, etc. and determine a "Woke Risk Score" based on where they attended school, when they attended, the degree program, associated events, etc. Generate the score based on those risk factors. High Woke Risk means you circular-file the resume and move on to the next candidate.

And since political discrimination is completely legal, companies could easily get away with it.

Keeping people piss-drunk all the time is one of the only ways authoritarian socialism can work.

No joking... one of the final straws for the good ol' USSR was when Gorbachev had the bright idea to start seriously restricting alcohol sales. That seriously pissed off Russian people, and dealt a serious blow to the agricultural economy. Both in terms of limiting production, and the massive spike in panic buying & bootlegging of the sugar and fruit supplies that did make it to market.

The whole stupid idea only lasted a couple of years. And I won't say it was what tipped the scale. But it sure helped.

Simple calculation to do. For me I will have to live to 82 to reach breakeven with full benefits versus benefits at 62. Given the odd of 20 years life after 62 and that SS will still be solvent, I'll be taking it early.

Tires are considered "aged out" if more than ten years old. Yours are only six or so. Now, if there are visible deep cracks in the tread or sidewalls (aka "weather checks"), you probably should replace.

251 I worked the numbers on the reduced rate and there was just no making up the dollars lost with the increase by waiting. Multiply the monthly payment by the number of months til the year to get the increase. You end up losing thousands of dollars to get a few dollars extra when you finally take it.

I don't know how. I did the calculation as well, and you come out ahead after about 12 years if you wait. If you plan to die at an earlier age, okay, but otherwise, you lose by opting to take it early.

Audis are notorious for quick and uneven wear. And of course climate. Really extremely hot or cold will wear out tires quickly.

So there’s no one size fits all rule on when you need new ones. At 6 years old it is probably time for new ones no matter what. That is getting up there in age.

267 Simple calculation to do. For me I will have to live to 82 to reach breakeven with full benefits versus benefits at 62. Given the odd of 20 years life after 62 and that SS will still be solvent, I'll be taking it early.

This is what I’m thinking, too. I retired several years ago (lived in California, looked at my savings, decided I didn’t need any more of this shit and retired to Texas) and will have the option of starting SS in a few years.

While I have started traveling more, I don’t really spend much.

I’m mainly going to look at what my savings are then (thanks, Brandon) and decide then, but I’m leaning toward earlier. My spreadsheet currently says I’d have to live to 79 to break even on waiting for full, and 81 on enhanced. My dad’s 83 right now, so I may well wait. Just depends on what I’d use the money for and how much trust I have in it still being there a few more years down.

374 Carter-Era Economic Advisors Shooting Down All of Biden's Ideas to Curb Inflation

Mr. Blumenthal said Mr. Biden should heed the lessons of Mr. Carter’s failed attempts to curb inflation by avoiding measures that are counterproductive. He urged Mr. Biden to support a substantial interest rate increase and to abandon his sweeping legislative package in favor of deficit reduction, which some economists argue could dampen prices by slowing growth depending on how it is approached.

“Inflation fighting comes first,” said Mr. Blumenthal, who escaped Nazi Germany and lived in Shanghai during a period of hyperinflation in the 1940s. “He has to show the recognition to the public that inflation has lasting deleterious effects on the economy and that by trying to take half measures now, you merely prolong the pain of these effects.”

Whoa...I never made that connection until you pointed it out! A lot of other rules (e.g., rounds of combat) probably come from tabletop miniature combat as well.

One thing I never liked much about 3rd Ed. D&D was it was too much like a reversion to tabletop miniature combat (lots of rules lawyering).

405 Seems like such a simple and obvious idea that it's amazing it took so long for someone to come up with it. But he did.

There was a lot of “almost D&D” that was nothing like D&D because no one ever hit the DM as world, players as party formulation. So something really cool would flash through the community, be really popular for a few months, and then die. Either some sort of live action royalty pretend social event or special war-game ideas for players to compete against each other over.

When Gygax published his idea for wargaming with fantasy creatures and knights, a guy named Dave Arneson took that and starting running player vs. player games using those fantasy creatures. It was still wargaming—players competing against players.

But when Arneson showed this to Gygax at a wargamer convention, his group couldn’t make it. So it was Gygax’s group playing against a group in Arneson’s mind. Arneson took the role both of the world (as the war-game judge always did) and the competition (as the war-game judge did not do). This was the formulation that flashed through the gamer culture and did not fade.

1. So there are some companies out there that offer no-questions-asked, guaranteed returns of their products. They stand behind them and will pay you out for any reason.

2. So there are some companies that recently used their platforms to attack the foundation of our constitutional system by assailing the Supreme Court. Some companies also recently used their platforms to very publicly choose their side in the abortion debate.

If we have any fly anglers here, you probably know of a company in both categories. It's a great time to try out new brands, especially when you're getting your money back.

3rd edition was mechanically more approachable than its predecessors, rules complexity largely emerged from the huge amount of customization that became available over time. 4th edition tried to address this by homogenizing all the classes.

Grappling was unnecessarily complex all by itself in 3rd though.

428 Dungeons & Dragons fans, it might be time to abandon the official game and just go OSR (rules based on the original ruleset):

****

OD&D players have been doing this for years now. A lot of alternatives out there including the original system.

I switched over to the Castles and Crusades rule system about 20 years ago when they were old enough to play RPGs. I hadn't played D&D since the mid-80s and went and bought the 3.5 books and then wished I hadn't. I found the C&C system from searching the web and then found out they were friends with Gary Gygax in his later years. Very easy system, very simple to learn, and I've since morphed it into a homebrew campaign using original D&D rules and the C&C system. Wizards of the Coast has been a train wreck for years. It's just a very slow moving one but it's picking up speed.

Biden's "team" is very politically risk averse, is looking at possible default on public debt, and their mega donors dearest and most influential supporters are leveraged to the eyeballs on their leverage, and loves to pander to the individual who wants to get free money just like the big guys do.

They can't afford massive interest rates, and they can only modify supply through price controls and rationing (which is a proven failure) or modification of demand, somehow.
