When Time Shall Count From The Date That The ONT Began To Hate

Greetings, and welcome to Thursday. Can you believe that tomorrow is July? Man, this year is going by so quickly that this just went up down the street.

PP Spirit.JPG

Bullet Sponge

Liberals: bUt WhY DoEs AnYoNe NeEd MoRe ThAn 6 BuLlEtS?

A: Check out this body cam footage

3 clips, each of a different officer involved. Austin Texas. Aside from the fact that the officers managed to maneuver themselves into what amounted to a half circle, shooting at the guy in the middle (not really the best idea for avoiding friendly fire), and the officer in the second clip dumps all 15 rounds into/at the suspect and then stands there covering him with his slide locked back for about 10 seconds (props for a quick mag change when the suspect got up and he needed to shoot him some more, but he should have reloaded much sooner), they did a pretty good job. Guy just did not want to stay down.

Cooking Corner

Not to step on CBD's toes, but here at the ONT we're all about delectable dishes that are fun and easy to make. Like so:

Coke Salad.jpg

You know this is old because a “large” coke is 10 oz. Call me crazy, but I'm actually tempted to make this. I mean, someobody somewhere must have thought that it tasted good, right? It made it into a cookbook at one point, right? How bad could it be?

I don't know if the above recipe is there, but if you like this kind of stuff, check out James Lileks' Gallery of Regrettable Food. It's a hoot.

Headline Of The Week

Topless breastfeeding mum in boxer shorts tackles bald eagle to save pet goose

Might be in the running for headline of the year.

Garbage List

Historians Rank Every President in US History

So, this list was composed by “142 historians, professors and professional observers of presidencies.“ WTF is a “ professional observer of presidencies”? Are there amateur observers of presidencies? What does it take to break into the high-paying League of Presidential Observers (LPO)? If you do so before graduating college do you forfeit any remaining years of eligibility?

Second, care to guess the political leanings of these “ historians, professors and professional observers of presidencies”? Go on, guess. C'mon, c'mon, take a shot. You'll never get it in a million years. What? You're kidding me, you got it first time. Amazing.

So, Lincoln is 1 and Washington 2. Well, that's wrong. Washington is #1. Coolidge is 2 (he placed 23rd) and then Lincoln. But #3 gives away the game: FDR. In a correct list, FDR only gets to the middle of the pack because of his wartime leadership, based on his first 2 terms he'd be rubbing elbows with James Buchanan (who is rightly listed dead last.) The rest of the top ten is fairly solid, although JFK is, as always on lists like these, ranked too high, and what Truman did to crack the top 10 is beyond me. Reagan gets surprisingly high on the list ( 8 ), but the SCOAMF is 9 and Fucking Wilson is 12. Wilson! You could argue that he was worse than Buchannan, and I wouldn't fight you on it. And yes, Trump is in the bottom five. What do you think of the list, and how would you re-rank it?

Now Showing

Get Woke, Go Broke: Hollywood Is Dying And They Deserve It

There have been many other moments of exposure since 2016, from the negative reactions to Comicsgate, feminist Ghostbusters, feminist Star Wars, woke Star Trek, woke Dr. Who, woke Batwoman, woke He-Man, woke Lord of the Rings, critical race theory in television, trans, LGBT and CRT propaganda in children's programming, etc.  It's becoming endless.  Around 95% of all popular entertainment contains multiple layers of leftist messaging.  The market is utterly saturated with it.
This kind of overwhelming propaganda is familiar.  It is a methodology used in communist regimes and authoritarian governments throughout the 20th century including the Soviet Union and Mao's China, and it almost slipped right under the noses of the majority of Americans and western nations.  The goal is simple:  Make EVERYTHING political.
Want to escape the real world for a couple of hours into a fantasy land?  Want to see daring tales of classical heroes and villains?  Want to experience history as it actually happened, or at least very close to the historical record?  Are you looking for an archetypal experience, a mythological exploration of the human mind or the human heart – something that almost anyone could relate to?  Sorry, you're not allowed to escape.  You're not allowed to examine universal ideas and ideals.  Every single story must be told within the narcissistic framework (or prison) of modern political ideology.  Even in stories set a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.
The extreme political left wants you to think about their beliefs and viewpoints all day everyday.  They want you to assume that their ideology is the ONLY ideology.  They want you to assume that the “majority” of the population thinks as they think.  It's called manufacturing consensus.

Link to Zero Hedge, so the comments section is probably a shit show. I didn't read the comments on this article, but I've never seen a comment section over there that wasn't.

Racism

Calling Justice Thomas ‘Uncle Clarence’ exposes the rotten sham that is the progressive movement

They say that in times of stress, anger and anguish, you see who people really are. These moments are rare but special because you get to see how much of their rhetoric manifests in action and how much is lip service.

With overwhelming anger seeping through their pores, Democrats saw only one viable target who would satisfy their rage. There was only one person for whom they felt comfortable exposing themselves by lifting the veil of their true hatred and indifference for black people.

In a matter of hours, “Uncle Clarence” was trending on Twitter, a reference to the racist pejorative “Uncle Tom.” I witnessed multiple conversations between white progressives questioning if Clarence knows he’s black, chastising him for being married to a white woman and even going so far as to feel completely comfortable calling him a n—er.

I fucking hate the racism of the left with the heat of a thousand suns, mainly because I thought we'd beaten it. I came of age in the 80s, and by 1990 I really thought that we'd done it. My generation had internalized the message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, and race just wasn't a thing anymore. Oh, there were scattered individual racists, to be sure, but on the whole, nobody cared. And then the left spent the next 30 years reversing all of the progress we'd made in the previous 30 years, and here we are today. I'll never forgive them for it.

You're not going to like what comes next

Link goes to the last tweet in the thread, the first one doesn't display the whole thread properly because one tweet was removed, but the last one shows the whole chain. A modern take on Kipling's The Beginnings.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by R. M. Huffman* (pretty sure he wrote this):

*Huff is a Moron, and an author. You should read his "Sweet Tooth" anthology, the omnibus is available on Kindle for something like $3-4, and it's a hoot.

And it was all to keep neo-Marxism, aka the new European colonialism, alive.

It's explicit in the white writers like Marcuse, they have to get to the black man before he becomes a major stakeholder in the free market to convince them that he is shut out of the free market.

Thus they needed a new oppressor, and the Democratic Party no longer wanted to play that role, so they shoveled goodies at the minorities and told them the problem with racism is that the Republicans didn't want to pander to their crowds as much as they did.

50 What blows my mind with these some companies is that the CEO has to stand before the board regarding profits and stock prices.

So how do these companies continue to push out this whole crap, take loss after loss, and these people get away with it.

I've never understood that. I guess even if they were losing money left and right, the stock was artificially inflated which keeps the CEO from getting shitcanned.

But example after example exists of woke companies getting hammered by consumers from Gillette to Target, Netflix to Disney. The list is endless.

But watch ChikFilA or Tom Cruise play it straight and consumers rewards them handsomely.

I always thought the dollar rules all but somehow these woke assholes survive.

Off the top of my head: Hiroshima (horrible, but necessary). NATO. The Marshall Plan. The Berlin airlift. Saving South Korea. Firing MacArthur (an insubordinate general cannot be tolerated). Executing the Rosenbergs. Recognizing Israel.

He made the tough decisions needed to end WWII and contain the USSR. Maybe not top ten, but certainly top 15.

96 One thing I give Truman credit for: He never second guessed himself, publicly, about dropping the atomic bomb.

But, Truman served in WWI, so, he knew a bit about what soldiers went through, and most likely, was under no illusions how many American lives would be lost, were Japan invaded. (I believe Truman also didn't think much of Wilson, because Wilson segregated the Army, again, after desegregation had already started)

111 Presidents:
1. Washington. We are what we are, or were, because of him. In fact, I say that he was the turning point of history, he ended the old order and began the new. All modern history resulted from his life and actions.

2. Lincoln. Because he kept the country together. I don't care about views on whether he broke laws or the states should have been free to leave. If we fell apart, the world would be less free than it is.

3. Reagan. Just because. The nasty Democrat lies couldn't stop him. America First came from him.

4. TR. Yeah, I know a lot of people on the Right don't like him, but he understood what our place in the world should be.

5. Trump. Because he showed what evil lurks in the republic. People just need to look, he exposed it. Only those willingly blind can't see it.

=======
Wilson had a stroke while trying to make a popular appeal in person across the country. Six years later he could have made a series of radio addresses like FDR. He spent the last 1.25 years of his term as an invalid inside the White House. His second wife Edith Wilson controlled access to the President during the day, and she was a formidable gatekeeper. Frustrated legislators and members of the Executive Branch told the newspapers that she was making policy, not the president. And so the time to make a lasting peace following WW I slipped away.

For years and years and years the Court upheld that whatever the Democrats wanted to call "equal" was good enough to be kinda-sorta counted as "equal".

Finally, one court called bullshit. Cited what was plain and ignored "equal" is not the same thing as equal.

1857, racing slang, "to refuse or avoid payment of money laid as a bet," probably a disparaging use of the national name Welsh.

And of Welsh:

Among the English, Welsh was used disparagingly of inferior or substitute things, hence Welsh rabbit (1725), also perverted by folk-etymology as Welsh rarebit (1785).

314 Evening.

Got back from Top Gun: Maverick.

Wwwwwooooooo!!!!!!! Loved it!

First let me start by saying the story is 20 kinds of stupid. It's modestly better than the original simply because the original contained nothing resembling a moral of message. This one does. There is something almost approaching a character arc. It does, in a fashion, relate back to the first film. All of it is mostly a cheap excuse.

So why see this movie? The planes. Oh my lord, the planes. So *fucking* beautiful. There are so many excellent shots that I would be stunned if this movie didn't win every possible award for cinematography. The shots they get in the cockpit are ssoooooooo freakin' cool that I wish I saw it in IMAX. There's some CG. There's some Su-57s that are CG. Some of the aerobatics I wasn't sure was CG or not. If it is it's very convincing.

Anyway, if you haven't seen this I'd highly recommend it. This isn't high art, but if you want to see lots of jaw dropping F-18 footage you will not be disappointed.

And Jennifer Connelly is...*mwah*...tres magnifique.

317 Best presidents?

Washington is obviously #1.

The rest of the top ones, not in order: Jefferson, Monroe, Coolidge, Reagan, Trump

Worst, also not in order: Buchanan, Clinton, Obama, Biden, Carter, Wilson

One interesting point - in the early US the quality of the president didn't matter much. In the later US the success of the country is tied tightly to the success of the president. Presumably because the government has gotten so much stronger and influential.

Do we have a drive belt expert in the house? I need a new belt for one of my air compressors. Turned them on, and one kept running after the other got to shut off. It sounded a bit slow.

It was. Belt was slipping. Now, this is one of those 6 grove poly-v jobs, a "6J". Length as is about 50.5".

But the adjustment is all the way out. I think I want a 49" belt (that would be a 490J6). I have no idea what the specs for that belt it is, and these things are both nearly as old as me. No numbers left legible on the belt.

I don't think those things stretch that much. But I'm wondering if maybe I want a 48".

When he was read-into Manhattan project, he was kind-of pissed that Sec of War Stimson had kept the true purpose from him while he was Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee before becoming VP. Stimson had such a reputation for honesty and playing-straight that Truman trusted him with all that money each year without getting a detailed explanation. Boy, just try to find anyone in DC with such a reputation today.

320 In modern police training, the classic 21 ft. "Tueller Drill" has now been extended to a 27 ft. danger-range.

Someone comes up "threat" with a knife, you shoot to stop the threat, and two in the heart, one in the head, is a pretty good stop. If you improve your weapons skill to where you don't miss much right to left/left to right, then just start at the base of the sternum, and ride the recoil up the centerline.

Multiple assailants? Conserve ammo. One center mass, one CNS, as quickly as you can see the front sight on the target. Study human anatomy, so you really can hit the internal targets from any angle. They ain't always squared up to you in the fight.

Posted by: An Observation sez China Joe not my president at June 30, 2022 11:01 PM (ZEHVO)

The prevailing wisdom is that the producers hated her and at least two of the judges tried to screw her week in and week out (both fairly self-evident) and that she lost to the final two because of tween girl "power" voting which was apparently a thing. I mean, it's American Idol, of course that's a thing.

Also some say it was rigged. Even some people who don't like me very much say it was a rigged. A lot of people are saying that. It's true.

Honestly I know way too much about this subject but at one time it was kind of a fun show. I loved her on AI and never watched another minute of it after all that bs.

There's a reason the vast majority of married men don't recommend marriage to their single friends.

Marriages has pluses and minuses for both men and women. But over the last 40 years the courts and society have completely reshaped those pluses and minuses so it is almost all upside for women and risky for men.

So yes...as a man there is little reason to marry anymore, outside of your religious views. Which might be enough. But you better pick the right woman.

Then he got us into a couple of wars with no idea how to win them. We just...wait them out...right? Because America is good at that and no one will ever elected an incompetent lefty congress or president...right?

All the trailers were kind of stupid. Not interested in any of them. And they were all alike. Russo Bros. Have s new film coming out. 374 "Make EVERYTHING political."

We can't go to watch archetypal explorations of the human condition, nor can we observe the stories that speak to the primordial, atavistic and common values of all cultures; rather, the Hero of a Thousand Faces has been replaced by the Being/Thing of a Thousand Genders (and only one Face need Apply), aka The Message.
I'm so sick of this shit, but apparently still civilized enough to not run over the bicyclist who insisted on using most of the lane at a busy cross-section, then
arrogantly chastising me for getting too close to him (I didn't, not by a long shot): "Watch it! This is D@v!$"
"No shit, dumb fuck! If it were Sparta, your pencil neck ass would be part of the pavement! Share the road works both ways!" Grrrrr...not the first time yelling at spandex elitists in this town. Do they not realize my shop van will always win? It has dents for a reason. Whatever. I'm just whining, sorry.

Having been married exactly zero (0) times, I think I am nonetheless qualified to expound on the wisdom of the ages passed down through time.

One thing I've heard consistently from happily married men is to always do the things yo make your old lady feel appreciated and cherished. It doesn't seem to have to be terribly complex at all. It's always something as simple as buying your old lady flowers every day. It's nothing grandiose or even sexual, just simple yet fairly constant and consistent romantic gestures that make your chick feel beautiful and loved.

Comparing that to 2022 I see err...nothing. Maybe Elvis? Or Top Gun?

I heard someone here argue "no, that is only if he accidentally caused her to lose her fetus/child", but that is not the scripture as I had read it. Would be glad to be shown otherwise.

First usage in the Bible .. God formed the body of the dust of the ground, THEN breathed into it the breath of life, and man became a living soul. THAT has been the standard .. .Birth Day.

But idk, there is at least a vibrant body life before birth, whether or not that is "soul life", idk ... it is all quite a miraculous process.

Back then, the Rs were the real progressives. Meaning working towards betterment, not like the current so-called progressives who just work for tyranny.

Much of politics, and business, and many other human endeavors, especially in our modern era, is nothing more than the art of crafting lies around defining terms as the opposite of what they actually are. "Progressive" now means effectively "Returning to feudalism with an Aristocrat class and a Peasant class". " Liberalism " means "Only certain ideas and behaviors will be tolerated and there will be harsh penalties for not supporting them"

I heard someone here argue "no, that is only if he accidentally caused her to lose her fetus/child", but that is not the scripture as I had read it. Would be glad to be shown otherwise.

Exodus 21:22 (KJV) If men strive, and hurt a woman with child so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow, he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. v23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, etc.

That looks to me like two men are fighting and the woman is injured incidental to their fight, which is backed up by the lack of further attack against her. If she is attacked further, then the punishment ramps up (and it's not clear what limits are put on the husband's demand in the first instance).

The Bible also indicates that God knew us before we were knit in our mother's womb, so in that sense we existed in His mind before even conception.

I think I'm ordering the 49". There's about maybe an 1" of adjustment on the motor base, maybe a little more.

This thing is rather low gear ratio. 3450 RPM motor, and compressor speed is about 850 RPM (I remember that figure when I had to get a new pump -- well I've replaced the pumps on both, as well as the motors, and replumbed one of the old things over the years). Tiny little pulley on the motor, big one on the pump.

The difference in diameter is such that there's quite an angle there, and you'd need to do little cosine on the angle to get the actual straight line length pulley to pulley.

INDIANAPOLIS — As Indiana lawmakers prepare to pass a potential abortion ban, local faith leaders are speaking out about concerns for congregations across the state.

“It’s very troubling to think that we would be legislating one religious belief over another,” said Rabbi Brett Krichiver, senior rabbi at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.

"The Jewish community would argue that the Bible states very clearly that an unborn child is more similar to property than it is to a human being and that really what's at stake here is women's ability to control their own access to healthcare," he added.

440 ..The difference in diameter is such that there's quite an angle there, and you'd need to do little cosine on the angle to get the actual straight line length pulley to pulley.
Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at July 01, 2022 12:09 AM (Mzdiz)

Weasel can solve that in his external ballistics app.

Might be some worthwhile math, you'll end up with the minimum and maximum belt lengths that'll work. I'd buy the minimum (it'll stretch) and the medium (it'll stretch, too) Maximum is right out, as you'll have no turns left on the tensioner to make it work once it also stretches, which it will.

451 Something happened to entertainment in 2015. Looking back it's impossible not to see the "firewall" right around that point.

Thing is it was all in preparation for the ascent of The Hag and the ensuing 50 years of commie rule. In fact I wrote here in these very pages around 2012 that there was going to be a Woman Woman Woman push from Hollywood/Media starting in 2014 and slowly snowballing and it was going to be grotesque.

I thought they were going to go big on making Domestic Violence a national issue (by using some celebrity or big case) but they went straight to r*pe with Cosby - and it was so obvious in hindsight they would go straight to "r*pe" with all its disgraceful accusations and connotations, I really should have seen it coming. Then they followed with the Weinstein exposure and the non-organic "metoo" movement. Which they pretended was a response to Trump but was actually all well in the works before Trump burst their bubble.

I had always said "Women Women Women" wasn't really going to take off until 2016-2017 so that it could appear like President Hag had "changed the world" when in fact it was all planned and fake and no such thing had occurred.

I just sketched that calculation with different pulley diameters -- easy peasy, just a hypotenuse calculation. Say distance between pulley centers is 'l', and the difference in pulley radii is 'r'. No big deal.

I'm just thinking. My father got one of those compressors in the '70s when I was just a kid. It's close to 50 years old. Then, a neighbor had one just like it, a little later model. It didn't run too well, and he gave it to me. I got it going, figure that was in the early 90s.

I've put new pumps and motors on both of them since then, but it's the same tanks. I run them together. Independent pressure controls, with a check valve on the output, so one won't pump the other up.

I got the pressure switches tuned to come on and cut off as close in sync as possible, but I learned that temperature varies that. Even for the same pressure switch model, looks like.

I am hardly what one would call a Biblical Scholar... shit, I'm lucky I can tie my own shoes or understand a rhomboid comment... but I see a much deeper meaning in "knowing you before I formed you in the womb" than a mere expression of foreknowledge.

God can express His foreknowledge in many ways.

And He could have, for example, said, "I knew you before you were born". But He didn't. He chose to mention formation in the womb. But maybe we're just talking at cross purposes here. I do that sometimes.

Vee-belts, and Poly-vee or "serpentine" belts don't hardly stretch at all. But the contact surfaces wear away, causing them to sit deeper in the sheaves, which mimics the effect of stretch.

516 Did the federal government relinquish power after Lincoln’s time?

Well as a point of fact, it did. All of those things he did were measures for the duration. He did what was necessary to preserve the union, and the union was worth preserving. If he had just let the south go, we would live in a Balkanized continent today. How many more wars do you suppose would have been fought here in the last 160 years? WWI with the US allied with the Central Powers and the Confederates allied with the Entente Powers, trench warfare across Md, Wv, Ky and Mo? Bet on it.

What we often fail to realize is that our concerns are not the concerns of a century and a half ago. Our biggest threat is leviathan govt, and so we see that in Lincoln's actions. Leviathan govt didn't exist in 1860, and however a small version of it Lincoln created was gone by the time reconstruction failed.

OTOH, slavery was a moral stain on the ideals upon which this country was founded and it HAD to be eradicated. And don't give me revisionist bullshit about "states rights". The only "states right" that couldn't be resolved short of war was slavery. Because of Lincoln, slavery is a dead letter today, and so we don't generally factor it into our thinking, instead focusing on the huge threat to our freedoms, leviathan govt. "America" as we think of it would be a quaint 19th century experiment that tore itself apart in 80 years without Lincoln. And the entire world would be a much darker place because of it.

531 507 Serious question to follow:
Do Jews believe in an afterlife?
Posted by: gourmand du jour at July 01, 2022 12:48 AM (jTmQV)

Sorta, and it depends. Jews as a category vary greatly. The Jews before the fall of the Second Temple had divergent opinions, hence the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and then those crazy Essenes. Essentially, the afterlife was when you went down to Sheol and lived as a shade, so your progeny were your real "afterlife." The Pharisees had some notion of heaven and the possibility of getting there, but it wasn't really a tenet of the faith. the Essenes, who the heck knows what they were up to, but they didn't like sex so they didn't last too long.

Somebody else will have to explain modern Jews, since there are many varieties of them as well. Not quite like the 20,000 denominations of Christians, wo believe all sorts of odd things, but still.

I see that God created and understands us as "empirical beings". This describes to me why the Knowledge of Good and Evil is not a data download. It's not an academic course. It is an immersive, learning experience.

And it also covers all the little illustrative tasks the Lord asks of his prophets like Ezekiel and Jeremiah.

It probably concerns the difference between the principle that aw, God just forgives you, and the Incarnation. The first is abstract and linear, the second is full.

It is the illustration within the task, or "the walk". And we walk with the shekinah weight of God's glory "in his time".

I think it's laughable that Remain in Mexico is "cruelty" as well as insulting to Mexicans. Because "refugee" status is not a means to just pick a new country of choosing, and again as long as they are not suffering the alleged persecution in their home country, Mexico might not comprise an "inhuman condition". Heck, there are probably resorts in Acapulco you can show to "refute" the horrible of Mexico, much like the resorts of Haiti "proved" it was not so bad.

You call it spacetime. It's a 4 dimensional Riemannian space with signature (1,3) in the lingo. Your "distance" works out to be time^2 - space^2. This distance can be zero or negative. Light it turns out, follows such a zero distance, null path.

There are invariant time-like and space-like qualities. Spacetime always has one time-like and 3 space-like dimensions. Coordinates shift those around. One man's space is another man's time, but that invariant distinction remains.

But it is an expensive proposition to believe that all black-hating racists single out Kenya, and can't have a low opinion of Africans regardless of country or origin. Or that racism is origin-based. As well, there is nothing to bear out that racist generally do not acknowledge that some blacks are born in America.

So it does not appear very sound to believe that the thought is "You know about them black people, they're *all* born in Kenya". So, it is very more likely that "native Kenyan" is the particular slur here.

The one problem I have with your list is that I think you place Trump a little too high. He wasn't a bad president, but not in the Top 5. His Administration was chaotic, and some of that chaos was his own doing, like picking bad Cabinet members and sticking with those bad ones too long, e.g. You also give short shrift to the earlier presidents. I would definitely put Thomas Jefferson in the Top 5 if only for the Louisiana Purchase alone as that had a tremendous impact on making America what it became.

IMAO, one president who always gets overlooked in such rankings is Eisenhower. Even though -- or probably because -- he was military and a West Pointer, he gave us a most prophetic warning to beware the Military-Industrial Complex. It was a warning we have ignored at our peril. Also, his using the National Guard to enforce Brown v. Board of Education was a game-changing move historically speaking.

The old "technology would have made slavery economically unfeasible" argument. And you know what? It's probably right. But consider.

What of the 4 million slaves in the country? Consign 4 million people to bondage for 20 years hoping that things work out?

And what happens in 1880 when you have 4 (probably 4.5 by then) million people thrown into the streets with no jobs, no support and no prospects? In a society that generally considers them sub human? Would the death toll among them exceed the 650K lost in the Civil War? To say nothing about the deaths in the rest of the population as these 4 million folks for their lives? I dunno, but I'd imagine by 2 or 3 times.

Finally, an most importantly, slavery was an evil that had to be confronted and stamped out. It had to be recognized for the evil that it was. It had to be defeated.

633 589 Think about it, we have to put it out of our mind that there are such things a people born in Kenya, because people much smarter than we have deemed it racist to think a black man was born in Kenya.

This there are no native black Kenyans, because only a racist thinks otherwise.

And particularly because you can't even allege it about a single man, it would be a slur applied to any individual. And as it would be racist to even accept there could be an individual to whom it applied, I must unlearn the patterns of racism and expel the thought of the fabled "native Kenyan" from my mind.

Ineffective? Well, I guess except for he didn't go to war nor dick around in getting the S.S. Mayaguez back after the Democratic Kampucheans thought they could pick our carcass after our ignominious bug out from Vietnam, capturing the commercial ship in international waters.

IMAO, his presidency was the first where I saw the ridicule of Republican presidents front and center. He was a college football all-star, playing on a championship team, yet the press made him look like a clumsy, doddering Joe Biden and, surprise surprise, it worked. Saturday Night Live had many a skit about Ford falling down (Chevy Chase made a career of it); funny they have all this Biden material and somehow choose not to use it. It's a mystery.

I see Bill Gates just bought up another 2100 acres of prime farmland in North Dakota. They tried to stop the sale under some 1932 anti-corporate farmland ownership law, but he got approval.

Billy is now the largest single owner of farmland in the US, owning some 270,000 acres across the country.

FDR is bottom of the barrel. He literally functioned as a dictator, packing the Supreme Court to get around tearing the Constitution in half. He experimented with command economy nonsense which extended the Depression and ruined millions of lives. He put a ton of pressure on Japan, and then failed to prepare for the very obvious possibility of them in turn declaring war. He's the most responsible of anyone for the federal bureaucratic leviathan.

I would call British rule leviathan government, and Lincoln and his Party were British Control 2.0. They imposed nearly all the same measures that justified the American Revolution.

No one seriously argues that slavery is not a stain on humanity. The question is whether killing 750k Americans, most of whom never owned a slave, was worth it to (tangentially) accomplish what would have been accomplished peacefully without the war. The monetary cost of the war to the North alone was enough to buy every slave out of bondage like England did. Other than Haiti, every other western country eliminated slavery peacefully. And slavery existed in the North well after the war ended as the emancipation proclamation applied only to southern states that actively rebelled, as punishment.

Lincoln and his Republican Party caused the move to secede, and the goal of the war was not to end slavery but to maintain control of the South.

Plus, free markets and their philosophical roots caused abolition far more than any other effort. Slavery in the north resulted primarily from free whites demanding jobs slavery made unavailable to them (hence Lincoln’s repeated promise that the American territories would be available for free whites only). And capitalists realized that slave labor was more expensive than free labor driven by profit motive as opposed to fear.

Alexei de Tocqueville wrote in Democracy in America that racism in the north was far worse than in the south. I can’t vouch for that but in my experience racial tension is far worse in the north east than the south. Saint Abe indeed wanted to deport blacks to South America or Africa because the “inferior race” can’t live in harmony with its “superior”.
