The resident of a Connecticut home fatally shot a pair of male teenagers — 15 and 16 — who forced their way into the East Hartford residence last week and physically attacked the resident, police told WTIC-TV. What are the details?

A few weeks ago my uncle was having pain in his right foot. It got worse and wire, the agonizing. My uncle is tough Irish, never complains, he's one of 10 children. I finally say his right foot and it was dark purple. Went to the doctor on a Saturday, they popped a blister and told him it was just an infection and put him on antibiotics. His doc then wanted to see him on Wednesday. They foot still looked bad and they wanted him to have an ultrasound. Couldn't book him till Friday. Friday morning I said that's it you're going to the ER with a different hospital network. They took one look at the foot and immediately called the vascular surgeon. He was transferred by ambulance to the bigger hospital. They were appalled that the order wasn't STAT and started treatment. Found a blood clot in his leg. Removed it but they found a 7cm mass on his lung. Mind you his GP never ordered chest x-rays in all these years even though every sibling but one has died of cancer and my uncle smoked 3 packs of camels a day for almost 40 years. He quit in 1991. I am furious.

Outlying "Community" hospitals do not often have the depth of diagnostic capabilities of the big metropolitan Medical Centers. At least the doctors were smart enough to send your uncle to one where they could isolate the problem and treat.

My GP had me do an x-ray every year. I smoked for 40 years. Found the cancer but it was stage 3 by then (I had sloughed off the x-ray for 6 months). A brilliant surgeon and oncologist saved my ass. That was over 8 years ago.
People, if you have smoked, or do, get a yearly chest x-ray. If the insurance won't pay for it do it anyway. You can negotiate with most providers.

Ask about a hyperbaric chamber. High O2 treatments could save his foot. Also, I agree the pain medication is way too low of a dose. Why isn't he on fentanyl? There is no upper limit to how high a dose of fentanyl he can receive. Ask for a pain management consultant or a hospice consult. I worked for hospice for 14 years and those doctors are some of the best at pain management. So sorry to hear about the lousy medical treatment he has received.

My brother (j&j jabbed) just had a huge cancerous mass removed from his lung - bigger than a softball. His in network doc said about two months ago when problems started it was about an inch in size. (this is Kaiser) They referred him out of network but then didn't send all the lab work to the doctor and on and on. Anyway, they also removed some lymph nodes but said they came back ok.
This all started suddenly when mowing the lawn one day and he couldn't catch his breath. Now, also he is having heart issues! All out of the blue. I didn't ask if he got boosted, but his is in Washington state, so if they required it, I am sure he did (not the sharpest tool in the shed).
He is a smoker (well, quit when he got the news!) but he had no issues before. In his early 60s.

Just got through watching an episode of Emergency! on Fetv, another classic TV network that I stumbled on a while back. I don't think I've watched any new stuff, other than Tucker and Gutfeld in a long time, just all classic TV.
Anyway, a young female reporter got assigned to ride with Squad 51. She was a feminist, '70s version, and drove them all nuts. She accused them all of being male chauvinist pigs, even blessed out the doc at Rampart.
Told Johnny he was "misogynist". "What's that mean?" "You have women", Roy replied.
He said, "I like that word a lot now, and glares at her". That explained to her that all that venom she has can't undo "millions of years of nature".

I've been seeing fireflies out all over the field of late. Can't really say if it less or about normal, haven't paid it that much attention.
One night, I saw the flashing in the direction of the electric fence around the garden, and I briefly wondered was the fence arcing somewhere, but then I realized it was just fireflies.

The Solstice occurs early this morning, 5:14 am EDT, or 9:14AM Zulu.
At this point, Sol reaches him maximum declination above the ecliptic. Solstice means "sun stop" basically. Sol stops his declination movement, and then starts falling again.
Day here will be just a few seconds under 14:30 long.

That's exactly right. Feed from the transformer enters the meter base at the top. Directly below the meter base is a box with the main shutoff switch. A cable exits the bottom of that box, hangs down in a loop of a few inches, and then runs back up the pole to a cablehead, whence three wires exit to be spliced to the 3 drops.
I asked the tech about getting a transfer switch installed to permit the use of a generator, and he said he'd get back to me on that. Said the utility usually doesn't approve any subscriber equipment on the pole.

First was the pain doc, yay, I get a few more tramadol and will get the steroid shot in my neck in the near future.
Then the results of my prostate biopsy. They do 12 random samples, no overt cancer but 2 were suspicious. The routine is another biopsy soon, 12 more random snips.

Yeah, lightning bugs are great. What's cool about them too, they aren't poisonous to humans, they don't bite, make noise, kill your pets or raid your garden or anything, spread diseases. They just fly around at night and look beautiful.

I remember reading about what some observers called "wheels" of light in the Indian Ocean. Closer reading revealed that these "wheels" were like rays, from a source over the horizon, that would sweep past their ships, and then be followed after an interval , by another one. The light was the familiar phosphorescence from plankton in the sea, which do fluoresce when disturbed.
That sounds suspiciously like interference patterns arising from the collision of two wave trains, with the light rays coinciding with constructive interference, and the dark spaces with destructive interference.

I see. I've never seen on locally like that. Mrs. Duke (and the other one, an old REA descendent, Laurens Electric) do multiple drops setups, but it's usually a meter for each building. On some larger setups, they'll do a central pole, with a CT (current transformer) metering setup. Meter, with CT and voltage leads comes down the pole at eye level, but the drops are tied in at the top.

IMHO the Beatles had less clunkers than nearly any band if not all. They were also barely 30 when it ended, and 22 or younger when it started. Nobody had ever had a career like that in pop music before, and they were just kids from a British backwater. For the first couple years they were just especially big pop stars but then culture mutated to where they were something that had never happened before. Nobody ever cared about Sinatra or Elvis's views on society. The last five-six years they had to wing it.

Here at my place, it probably started with one drop, for the house, then another one added, early 1990's for the garage, and the third one added when I built my shop in the early 2000's. The barn has lights, too, fed by a 120 volt pole line coming off one breaker in the garage. I have had to repair that several times myself. Once, the neutral was open, but the lights still sorta worked, by ground return.

The coolest, most fascinating central drop service I ever saw was at a seed cleaner facility, among other things at a speck on the map town called Mountville, SC. There was a little town there years ago, but basically it wasn't a town anymore, and this local guy had a feed 'n' seed there, which he wasn't really running, a big seed cleaner, and some other stuff. Four or five big buildings.
Service was a big three-phase transformer on a central pole, with drops going off to all the buildings. CT meter on that central pole.
I got to looking, and my jaw dropped a bit....

That service was a 240V delta, three-wire. Got to looking, it was ungrounded. But, I noticed all buildings at 120V outlets of course. How dey do dat, I wondered? I made sure that was 240V delta.
Asked one of the guys would they mean me opening nosing around their eee-lectric equipment, cause they didn't know.
There were no local transformers. That I could see. You know, inside dry types that are usually used for that.

At each building with a drop and service entrance, there was another pole right there. That wasn't Mrs. Duke's pole, but a customer pole. On top was a very old transformer, utility type, looked to be about 2300V primary, near as I could tell from eyeballing.
Very old, and customer equipment. HV side was open, nothing connected. Low voltage side fed into a another weatherhead, with conduit running to the main panel, which in this case was a big ol' safety switch.
They were using the secondaries of those old transformers as autotransformers, and that's how they got their 120V for each building.

Now, I asked the guy if I could open up the switch and panel and look at the wiring. He said knock yourself out. I was even more impressed.
They grounded the center taps at each building, which meant that had to use the same two phases for each autotransformer. If you didn't, your local grounded tap reference would be different for each building, and that wouldn't be too good. Shocking in fact, if you happened to bring a good grounded conductor from to the other.
And the knew what they fuck they were doing. If you work out the math, you'll see the two hots supplying the autotransformer carry only 1/2 the neutral imbalance.
They had sized their wires accordingly. The neutral was bigger than the hots. These guys knew what the fuck they were doing, whoever it was who wired that setup.
And while it would get more complicated to explain, they had taken into account the possible fault and phase loss conditions into account with the design as well.
I was impressed.

The only criticism I have for that setup is the imbalance. All of those 120V derived circuits had to be between the same two phases of the supply. That's the problem with high-leg setups, which this was, just with independent splitting for each drop via those autotransformers.
And you had to do it that way, so you could ground all those center taps. Now, if you didn't have to worry about that, you could have distributed it around all the other phase pairs, but then there would be voltage between those center taps.
It could be done, but it would be so oddball as to be dangerous.

I've noticed in recent years, at least in my experience, that Goolag's location data for my location has got *less* precise...
In the past, when I'd opened maps.google. com at home, the map was ususally centred very close (scary close!) to my actual location, but now it's always at least a couple of miles away...
Either the Goolag's mapping of location via IP address is less capable now, or they randomise it a bit now for security reasons -- I don't know...
It still bothers me that some rando with nothing more than my name and a computer can get driving directions to my home!
Be wary of poasting links from your home, some sites have your location encoded in the URL.. isidewith. com is one site notorious for this!

I once suggested something. Problem of harmonic, non-linear loads on three phase 208Y/120V systems feeding electronic shit with switching power supplies. Triple-n harmonics add in the nuetrals, and "double sized" neutrals became a thing because of it. Didn't really need to be that big, but close enough.
I was talking one time and said hell, why not use 120V deltas to feed that shit. The zero-sequence harmonics wouldn't be a problem, 'cause it would be a delta.
I was discussin' this with a Clempson Cow Collidge edumacated eee-lectric injun I knew, along with some others. He said, "You're right son, that would work. But I want you to think".
Now, with a 120V delta, you gonna have one third of your output with two hot whars to ground. You gone have to 'splain to some idiot that he's got 120V between them two hot wires, while both of 'em are still hot to ground.
That fool would kill himself or burn something up, or both.

I spent 16 years on or very near the Equator and every day was the same. The seasons? We had the short rains and the long rains (monsoon, which affects all the lands bordering the Indian Ocean). The other variable was the elevation. Above 2500 feet or so the nights were very cool. Nairobi at almost 6000' was cool enough in the rainy season to wear a sweater during the day. Cold at night. The long rains were the rugby season whereas the dry season was cricket. Rugby and mud, wow what memories.

'Let It Be' is a solid album. I always enjoyed 'One After 909', which never got airplay. Also, their single, 'Paperback Writer', was very good.
They had that 2:45 to 3:15 minute long song suitable for radio airplay down pat. But I will say, 'Here Comes The Sun' is a fine piece of music. Unfortunately for me, my freshman college roommate had that on 8-track and played it on a continuous loop (as 8-tracks are wont to do), so I got sort of sick of it. Too much of good thing is, well, too much.

And oh, so vastly underrated. Ballad-wise, Penny Lane is worth many a listen. There are layers within the layers of the many layers. A music Prof could teach a semester on that one song, alone. Coronets and French Horns, well beyond the lyric.

Can't really blame them if they do. I think it was Apple Pay that was pulled from Russia, stranding commuters there because the app was used on their public transit. We haven't had property rights for some time, what with unCivil Forfeiture laws. My copy of the Constitution seems to omit the part of guilty until proven innocent. We're seeing the loss of property rights blossom with all the Red Flag laws being hurriedly shoved down our throats.

Stirling the Crazy Little Black Kitten and I are up. He passed his vet exam yesterday with no troubles; he is definitely a boy, about 3 months old, and seems healthy. As for me, I'm definitely a boy, a few months past 29, and pretty darn healthy, considering!
