Texas Department of Public Safety Admits: Waiting an Hour Before Taking Out an Armed Madman in a Room Full of Children Was Not the Optimal Call

We made a bad call, Ripley.

Julio Rosas
@Julio_Rosas11

DPS Director McGraw says it was a mistake for the on-scene commander to determine the shooter was a "barricaded subject" instead of an active shooter. Believing he was a "barricaded subject" gave police the false impression they had time.

Scott MacFarlane
@MacFarlaneNews

Texas DPS: On-site commander was convinced there was no more threat to the children... Which is why posture of police changed

But agency now acknowledges: Kids were still at risk. And kids and others needed medical response

It was a bad call, Ripley. There's no getting around that. It was a bad call.

Don't re-think your initial declaration while you've got a madman in a room with children. Just keep "waiting for resources." Just keep waiting for the Real Police to save you.

I know everyone's shocked that the cop paid to be at the school, safeguarding it, was in fact not at the school, and the cops are not giving us a reason why he wasn't at the school.

Julio Rosas
@Julio_Rosas11

DPS Director McGraw confirms a school resource officer was not originally on campus before the shooting but could not explain why that was the case.

What do you want to guess? Donuts or banging his mistress?

Think we'll find out that he did this routinely, and that people at the school and other cops routinely covered for him?

They decided they had time to send someone to go find the spare key to get into the room instead of knocking the door in.

Wouldn't want to harm that door. That could cost a couple hundred dollars to fix!

Reporter: "What efforts were the officers making to try and break through either that door or another door to get inside the classroom?"

Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw: "None at that time"
https://t.co/FaBNzlT36Z https://t.co/sC65hOrTcR

-- Anthony DeRosa (@Anthony) May 27, 2022

And apparently the Border Patrol Tactical team that killed the shooter did wait and waste time before breaching the room and killing the maniac.

But they were told to wait by local police.

J. David Goodman
@jdavidgoodman

DEVELOPING: The tactical team that eventually killed the Uvalde gunman arrived at the school far earlier than previously known, but was told to hold back and not go in by local police, according to two officials familiar with the response

w/
@esullivannyt

Remember, no one needs a gun.

You have the highly-trained and motivated professionals of government-paid law enforcement to protect you and your family.

Repeating this question:

Here's what I'd like investigated: I wonder if the nation's prioritization of never shooting "unarmed (but actually armed) felons" has caused us to stop hiring cops with the sort of psychology you actually need for effective law enforcement -- which may occasionally necessitate shooting people -- and caused us instead to hire passive, cowardly shlubs who enjoy sitting around picking the underwear out of their asses while waiting for Real Police to show up and do their jobs for them.

I honestly do not understand how "men" were content to stand outside while a real monster was inside a room with children, some alive, some dead, some bleeding out, and were content to just stand there doing nothing.

Wasn't this what they signed up for?

Or was it just all for the early retirement?

In a lot of schools they log comings and goings. If the SRO was supposed to be present - not a rover - but left for some reason which would not have been authorized, propping the door open would allow them to bypass that logging system.

To be fair, many schools have classrooms with metal fire doors and sometimes that reinforced safety glass also, and usually open out, and aren't easy to breach without frame spreaders/jaws or quicky saws/hot lances, etc. The key is often the fastest solution if the right tools aren't available.

Posted by: Moron Robbie
--------------------
Notice vague words are used so often like 'engaged' in public speak that obfuscate as much as illuminate. Alternative language never used in situations is that police shot at the murderer but did not hit him or police arrived, did not shoot, but cordoned off the area to prevent others from being harmed. All of those statements are clear so that the actions can be judged for their appropriateness. Public speak verbs are used to actively muddy what actions were taken so no judgment is really possible. That is on purpose because so many people fill in the blanks on what happened when obscuring verbs are used.

The school district has 4 resource officers and at least 6 separate school locations.

Assuming at least one resource officer is always at the high school and at the junior high, 2 officers divided by 4 elementary schools equals no constant resource officer presence at those 4 schools. I rate it unlikely the chief and the detective do resource officer duty shifts.

Did the loser surveil Robb school enough to know the routine resource officer schedule for Robb? Maybe he did enough surveillance of Robb to learn that the door he entered was usually propped-open at lunchtime on warm days.

I fear that the school district, its police, and the city police became complacent, thinking, "It Can't Happen Here."

So you are telling me Zeh Jermans invented an infantry rifle that can be disabled by....getting dirty?

No son. Not so. The AR-15 was the result of Armalite F*king around with gun ideas until they made something reasonable. Something that had numerous drawbacks that would get soldiers killed, requiring the rifle to undergo kludge patches like a video game to compensate for those issues, until eventually the modern weapon emerged, to which the most praise I can give is, it's light, it doesn't kick, it's ok to about 300 yards.

Contrast with it's ideological predecessor the M1 Carbine available for less than 100 bucks in the 50's. The carbine was only good to about 150 yards, a little heavier, and kicked a bit more. But essentially as far as performance goes a comparable weapon for an indoor mass shooting, and gosh.....didn't get used that way in the 50s

260 I quite accidentally came across an article on substack by a deranged leftist masquerading as some kind of deep thinker (BIRM) and honestly it's one of the top 5 stupidest things I ever read.

The long and short of her supposed theory is that in the 1950's a certain kind of Republican came out of the woodwork. They worshiped John Wayne and the image of a white male cowboy protector - that never actually existed because most cowboys were actually xomen of xolor - and they used that image to oppose Civil Rights, the same way they used to opposed freeing the slaves, because giving the federal government the power to give equality to black people would lead to "socialism".

They are using the same thing now to oppose "sensible" controls on guns and the events and failures by cops in Uvalde all prove that actually gun owners are wrong, and Democrats are right.

*This* is the claptrap that all your idiot leftard friends read, or have regurgitated to them. The obfuscations and fairy tale spinning is beyond mind-blowing. It's the lie-filled equivalent of an orgasm. It's lie bukkake. There is no sense in even beginning to counter it except with a blunt object, label side up.

I know this is a touchy comment - but reach out to your local LEO. See if they have someone certified to teach C.R.A.S.E. Yes, they teach Run, Hide, Fight - but you may also get some good tactics advice out of it. It should be free and is worth the 2hrs of your time.

If you have ever seen me mention using a fire extignuisher if you are somewhere when things go sideways and you aren't carrying - that advice came from CRASE. Fire extinguishers make great "bell" ringers. If, after connecting on the first swing, you can swing 2 or more times - do it. Might as well make sure you drive your point across.

422 In handguns, the most-used caliber is a 9mm, and it has far far less muzzle energy when compared to the AR load, the 5.56/.223.

A .357 magnum comes close enough to the 5.56 to be considered about equal, and a .44 mag beats the carbine load.

It's that energy smack that kills, not the size of the bullet.

Basic physics. F equals m times a. The 5.56 is a killer due to how much powder is in that casing creating the propulsion explosion.

But the 5.56 ain't no deer rifle. No sir. People hunt with them, but it's far better to go bigger. The old saddle rifle 30-30 Winchester, from 125 years ago, delivers about 50 percent more muzzle energy than the AR round.

I live in a town of around 20K. Several years ago, the local campus cops got wind of a potential shooter. He was in the process of arming up when they caught up with him. Took him down quickly, no fuss, no muss, no dead bodies (he was in a hotel room or something). So, yes, they CAN intervene and do good. They chose not to (or were ORDERED not to) in this instance.

to be VERY generous to the original idiot in the tweet, they're potentially technically not wrong. after WWI the germans did a study and found that most infantry battles occurred at less than 200 meters, iirc. so the Springfield, Garand, Gewher, etc, were NOT needed by the regular infantry. they needed guns that could fire faster and didn't have to be accurate at a distance much beyond 50-75 meters. thus the Sturmgewher and STG were developed.

I suppose one could argue the AR platform was an remodel and improvement of the STG platform. But one would have to be VERY generous to make that leap.

He was grazed on the top of his head by a bullet from Ramos.

He had kids in that school.
__________

Two different BP agents. The one getting a haircut was Jacob Albarado. His wife was a teacher at the school, and he had a daughter there too. He rushed to the school with the barber's shotgun, and he helped get his wife, kid, and other students and teachers out of the school. He was not the BP agent who shot and killed the shooter.

The BP agent who killed the shooter has not been named yet. Photos of him show him with a heavy beard. Albarado is clean shaven.

However, the tactical commander in the building is said to be the Chief of the School District Police, not a Uvalde police office or Uvalde county deputy sheriff. Yeah, and "a decision was made", passive voice, could be an additional indicator that nobody in the bureaucracy wants to make decisions and take responsibility for them.

I agree though that bureaucracy, leftist governing (local/state/fed), and the last 10 years of Brown through to Floyd et al have really changed law enforcement's calculus.

If you ever talked to a leftist, with defenses down, which isn't always pleasant, but it can be done, they will tell you that's all bullshit. They are supporting their team because it's worked out really great so far. They've gotten what they want from the deal and see their side as the big boss getting things they care about done. It allows them to ignore responsibility and be taken care of. All the various pets of the left are there to be controlled. They see the left as this master machine keeping everything happening. They know it's all shit underneath but they'll tell you that if the machine stops it will be a disaster and the shit being covered up will come back up. "So stop trying to mess with it. It's working"

These guys are likely not going to be in this situation again in their lives. Probably hadn't been in that situation up until that moment.

535 "Resettlement to the east" was a euphemism, and they all knew it meant death.

No, originally they really meant resettlement, until they realized they wanted to take over that land and would have to just move them again. It was pretty early on that this was discussed; by the time they invaded Poland total extermination was the policy.

But they didn't broadcast that on the nightly news. They were still running PR movies about taking people like epileptics and mentally retarded to special places they could get the care they needed.

Frankly by that point I think that most Germans didn't really give a crap what happened to the Jews, but dismissed the death camps etc as enemy propaganda as someone else said above.

536 There were scores of heavily armed law enforcement officers wearing body armor and sunglasses keeping themselves posted outside a building far away from a single active-shooter psychopath inside that building murdering children at will. Those armed government officials knew there were still children hiding in that building. They knew there had to be wounded children in dire need of medical help. They ignored the desperate pleadings of loving parents.

-If this does not dispel the idiot fantasy that government is the solution to society's problems, then nothing will.
We are living in a nightmare of progressive/leftist governance. And it's only going to get worse. Will society wake up?

542 265 What's the deal with AR-15s? Is there something special about them?
Posted by: N.L. Urker
---
My opinion: No, there's nothing special about them. It's easy to learn to shoot an AR relatively well. That was one of the original design considerations, and it's one reason for its popularity now. Another reason is low cost. With AR's you get the benefit of economy of scale due to interchangability of parts and high production volumes. AR's aren't really the BEST rifle for any particular use, but they're pretty good for lots of uses. That's why they've become ubiquitous among private owners.

544 Let's go arguendo, say the guy is just a shitty writer, and allow that the general concept of "sturmgewehr" was developed for 'Nazi' infantry, so the M-16 is a kind of descendant of it. So when you outlaw those, you find that virtually every bolt action in the world is a copy of the Mauser three-extractor action, developed for...German infantry. Knock out bolt actions, and there's the breech-loading needle gun, developed for...Prussian infantry. Not hard to see where they're headed, here. We're going to lever actions and revolvers. And I'm OK with that.

*I await Anna to correct me...*
Posted by: SturmToddler
----------------------
I am not Anna but I will answer--not in any way, shape, or form. The body of the STG-44 was made from stamped and welded metal, it used a long gas piston, and used materials of its time-steel. The AR design used pins, gas impingement, rotating bolt, and so on. The gas impingement came from the Ljungman Swedish WWII era firearms and was also used by the French MAS battle rifle.

The bullying thing is a crap excuse and an attempt to deflect from the corrupt society that spawns these scumbags. Almost everyone was bullied in school, but almost nobody turns psychotic and kills people over it. That's on THEM not bullies.

Facing hardship, mean treatment, and pain in life is what helps us grow and learn to deal with difficulty for when we face the real hardships. It sucks be called a dweeb in school. Its awful pain to have your heart broken. But that's like baby steps to deal with things like watching your once-brilliant, talented mother degrade into a drooling child before your eyes, dying by degrees.

Life is very hard and painful and you need to learn to grow up to face these hardships. The continual attempts to prevent kids from facing any difficulty just makes it immensely harder when they inevitably are forced to.

I know this based on my business experience which is in education, and on my experience as a parent dealing with both public, private, and parochial schools in South Florida. What do I get for warning people? Always a teacher or the husband of a teacher whining about their exemplary wife who is a great teacher yadayada.

I can count with the fingers of one hand the good teachers my sons encountered in over 20 years in the school system.

Then do it. Help them by protecting them from the people preying on them. Do it, or else people will start doing it themselves, and that's never pretty. That isn't in anyone's best interest.

Don't delude yourself. The police force was created in large part to protect criminals and the unjustly accused from the excesses of vigilante justice. Vigilantes, for their part, agreed to stop vigilantee-ing in exchange for the promise that the cop would do it for them.

Every time a person finds their catalytic converter cut off and the police act like they don't give a shit, you take a step towards the vigilantes taking back up the mantle.

When they won't even protect our children from being brutally murdered, it causes more and more to wonder if we need them at all.
