The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“We have the means to improve the state of the world, but two conditions are necessary: The first one, is that we act all as stakeholders of larger communities, so that we serve not only our self-interests but we serve the community. That’s what we call ‘stakeholder responsibility.’” As World Economic Forum head Klaus Schwab

Funny way to say, tyranny

Quote II

There’s no dystopian technological overreach that[Bill] Gates won’t enthusiastically endorse. He would have already harvested your DNA and stuck it in a Shenzhen genome sequencing machine — if not for the pesky issue of, you know, human rights. Emerald Robinson

Quote III

“Sir, you are out of line, please leave this auditorium! I can’t believe you’re a sick son of a bitch who would come to a deal like this to make a political issue!”Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin

Quote IV

“All Tennessee children deserve meaningful educational options. Today’s opinion by the Tennessee Supreme Court means thousands of Tennessee parents and children trapped in failing school districts can look forward to seeking a better education this fall at a school of their choice,” IJ Managing Attorney Arif Panju

This will not look good on future resumes. Talk about a permanent record.

SAN MIGUEL COUNTY, Colo. — A former Telluride ski patroller was arrested and charged after he allegedly threatened to "blow up" the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado and the man's arrest affidavit.

According to an arrest affidavit, the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office identified Bryan Randolph Cornwell, 39, of Norwood, as a person of interest in relation to a woman who died of a suspected fentanyl overdose on Feb. 16. The two had been dating at the time.

I'm surprised the State of New York would do anything beneficial for their elderly.

The state of New York will distribute robot companions to the homes of more than 800 older adults. The robots are not able to help with physical tasks, but function as more proactive versions of digital assistants like Siri or Alexa — engaging users in small talk, helping contact love ones, and keeping track of health goals like exercise and medication.

The scheme is being organized by the New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA), and is intended to help address the growing problem of social isolation among the elderly. An estimated 14 million Americans over the age of 65 currently live alone, and this figure is projected to increase over the next decade as the boomer generation ages. Studies have suggested that long-term loneliness is as damaging to an individual’s health as smoking.

The "Leaders" of the world present at Davos aren't making any headway with the Ukraine mess.

Zelensky Rejects Kissinger Concession Comments, Says "Russia Must Also Leave Crimea"

Ukraine’s president in fresh Wednesday remarks asserted that his country will hold no talks or negotiations with Russia until its forces pull back to their pre-war positions. It's but the latest clear signal that there likely won't be any negotiated settlement on the horizon, also as US defense officials have recently been predicting a protracted, possibly even "years-long" conflict.

President Volodymyr Zelensky laid out Ukraine's position in a virtual address before this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. It came after an initial speech before the forum at the start of this week, according to the AP. He put the ball in Moscow's court, saying it must "shift from the bloody war to diplomacy" if it hopes for the war to end. "It’s possible if Russia shows at least something. When I say at least something, I mean pulling back troops to where they were before Feb. 24," which marked the start of the invasion. He added: "I believe it would be a correct step for Russia to make."

I recently had my 50,000 mile tune up. My mechanic doctor wanted me to get Kung Flu booster. I said, "Thanks, but no thanks, Doc."

Quite a few people hold my opinion as well.

Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said the company is being forced to “throw away” 30 million COVID-19 vaccine doses due to low demand. Bancel made his comments while speaking at the World Economic Forum on Monday, adding his displeasure over the lack of people getting vaccinated and “waning immunity” among those who have had the shots but declined to get boosters.
“It’s sad to say, I’m in the process of throwing 30 million doses in the garbage because nobody wants them. We have a big demand problem,” Bancel said.

Joe Biden is a bully. But we already knew that. Right Cornpop?

The Biden administration will require schools that receive federal funding for lunches to enforce its ban on discrimination on the basis of gender identity and let biological males into girls’ bathrooms.

All state and local agencies that receive Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) funding, including schools, will have to update their non-discrimination policies to include protections for gender identity and must investigate any allegations of discrimination on the basis of gender identity, according to a May 5 U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcement. Obama-era guidance interpreting Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to prohibit gender-identity discrimination stated that transgender students must be allowed to use the restroom, locker room and shower facility that matches their gender identity.

It is all fun and games. Until someone forgets to get all of the permits.

Deputies from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office made the oddest of housecalls over the weekend, specifically because the house in question was sitting in the middle of a road in the middle of the night.

“Deputies responded to Berard Road in Loreauville regarding an illegal transport of a house. IPSO deputies arrived to find an abandoned truck, trailer and house blocking the 400 block,” IPSO said.

The illegally-parked domicile was discovered early Sunday morning around 3:30 a.m. blocking both lanes of a residential road in Loreauville, La., a small town that lies to the southeast of Lafayette.

Hmmm, I think I prefer North East Europe.

Most extraverted and introverted countries in Europe mapped

The words introversion and extraversion were presented in psychology by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung.

Extraversion is the state of predominantly getting gratification from beyond oneself. Extraverts are prone to enjoy human interactions and be enthusiastic and talkative. They like being around other people. They enjoy activities that affect big social gatherings, such as parties and demonstrations.

Introversion is the state of being primarily interested in one’s own cognitive self. Introverts are generally sensed as more reserved or thoughtful. Introvert persons predominantly enjoy time consumed sole and find less reward in time spent with sizeable groups of people. They are readily overwhelmed by excessively much stimulation from any social gatherings.

BTW, I once worked with a guy who was the nephew of the Chess brothers. He used to hang around the studio; and he had some stories to tell, you can be sure. My favorite was the time that some art school kids from Liverpool showed up at the studio, asking for an audition. Called themselves the Rolling Stones, or something like that. Phil Chess told them to beat it. I wonder whatever happened to them ...

96 Zelensky is either a fool, a drug addict, an actor, or all three. Why would the Russians back down now?

They clearly said they had specific goals in mind: Ensure no further attacks on the breakaway provinces that were leaning Russian, and ensure NATO armaments would not be on their doorstep.

To that end, they attacked eastern Ukraine and hovered around Kiev for a while before leaving for reasons unknown to anyone but the Ruskies. They've claimed nearly all the industry and fertile land in the country, and if they take Odessa they permanently cripple Ukraine as it was, which thereafter is landlocked.

The Ruskies have been grinding away at the entrenched fortifications Ukraine's been setting up since the taking of Crimea nearly a decade ago. If that Maginot Line is broken, what have they got left?

Who in the world "calls for peace" when they are accomplishing their goals? And if their losses are that bad, if the attrition the Ukrainian army is raining down on them is so devastating, why the desperation for alliance, money, and/or literally American blood?

The man taking the beating does not set the conditions for ending the fight.

Unfortunately, federal monetary policy seems completely divorced from tax revenue at this point. They just "print" more money whenever they need it. So even withholding money via a tax revolt is unlikely to have any tangible results other than to give the feds a reason to crack down militarily if necessary to keep the states in line.

I saw the video on the AMC national news of Beto mouthing-off to Gov. Abbott.

It looked like Beto was re-enacting the scene from "Cleopatra" (1963) where Octavian (Roddy McDowell) picks up the spear in the Roman Senate, then prances about and postures like a completely inexperienced 10-year-old playing "pretend", trying to rouse the Senate, then the local rabble, before throwing it into the Egyptian advisor.

Hang this on Beto The Drunk Driver.

176 Unfortunately, federal monetary policy seems completely divorced from tax revenue at this point. They just "print" more money whenever they need it. So even withholding money via a tax revolt is unlikely to have any tangible results other than to give the feds a reason to crack down militarily if necessary to keep the states in line.
Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at May 25, 2022 10:28 PM (K5n5d)

That is the problem. I think before we go balls-to-the-wall with the feds, we're gonna have to start organizing on a local level, and have more DeSantis types in multiple states, who are prepared to coordinate their actions. If we can do that, the feds will have a real crisis on their hands.

Those transponders only transmit when they are interrogated by a specially coded RF signal.

This spring I bought a real bike and found...apparently none of the exercise on the stationary bike actually translated. I did lose weight on the stationary bike and I could feel muscle tightness after working out...but apparently its not exactly the same muscle group I guess?

The good thing about the real bike though - every day I can go a little farther...

306 I saw the video on the AMC national news of Beto mouthing-off to Gov.

330 Allegedly there are some product baggies (snacks, computer components, survival foods, etc.) that shield cellular signals to one degree or another. The old computer component, anti-static bags might have been the best.

Article from years ago on some survivalist blog I can't remember the name of....
Posted by: Martini Farmer

They will work to some extent, but a real Faraday cage is thick, low resistance, and grounded. An anti-static bag is none of those.

Consider an old Yagi TV antenna, as every 29-year-old once had on their house. Only one of the crosspieces is an antenna, the others are passive re-radiators and reflectors. If ungrounded metal just ate radio waves, a Yagi would be an anti-antenna.

I just tried this with a static bag from an HDD, to prove it to myself. Turn off wi-fi, try to load the AoS homepage, close up my cell phone in the bag, and it still loads. Knowing where there's a web page that takes a long time to load by cell tower helps.....

359 Bill Gates, Soros and others like him are truly evil sociopaths and megalomaniacs, and they don't care to hide it.

Look at the obvious. I'm sure we've all dreamed of being immensely wealthy, we think about what house we'd buy, what car we'd drive, what vacations we'd take, but never do we go "I've got all this money, how do I use it to control people's lives. " But that's where these billionaires go, they can't find pleasure in the same things we do, they find it in hurting people and making sure they fall in line (well Gates finds pleasure in the pants of an 11 year old too) Maybe it comes from the childhood loser now having power (though technically controlling people's lives runs in the Soros family, let's just be thankful he no longer rounds up Jewish people) but I'm guessing it's more about just being a awful awful person.

That's why Musk is great. No matter where his politics really stand, he's become rich and uses his money to have fun, while moving the world forward. SpaceX, the Boring Company, and cars are all just a rich person's way of having things you wanted as a child, I'd buy a Lego if I got extra money, Musk buys a machine to make a giant hole.

I tried to figure out how it got there, and I realized the spot was one of the only spots in my yard where NO lights shine at night - in other words, if a thief were sneaking through my yard in the middle of the night, this is likely the spot he would have picked to hang out while he was casing my house. Luckily I can find nothing disturbed, but we're gonna be a LOT more serious about Security in coming days. The doors to my daughter's small private school in a town of 6,000 in Iowa are locked throughout the day. You have to get buzzed in and you're on video. And it's been this way for years. It's the same thing for the school I went to that's 20 minutes away in an even smaller town.

So.... when does the Uvalde elementary school secretary get fired, jailed, and/or sued?

Of course, a microwave oven has a thousand-watt magnetron blasting micowaves into the cavity, so some slight leakage is inevitable. Put it on nextdoor just to find out he went in to a neighbor's house when they were there, and stole shit.

Of course the dispatcher at thr police station, named something like Shaquanna, didn't seem to care, didn't send cops, didn't have anyone follow up, nothing.

I don't disagree, but there is always a hole in the system.

Part of what we should be learning is that the SOP is often incorrect.

From the time my daughter was in 3rd grade, we began every school year by mapping out the way to escape from classrooms and hallways. And she was trained to run, swiftly, to the exit and off school property. And I told her teachers that's what she would be doing, regardless of their procedures.

The everybody "put your head down and hold still while people are being shot" routine is horrible training.

The Mariner's never failed to disappoint. Still do actually. The greatest game I saw was the playoff game (Yankees?) where Griffey ran up the outfield fence and snagged a home run. The stadium had been wild up to the point, after that the racket bowed the Kingdome walls outward. It was complete pandemonium the rest of the game.

It was not rare to be there when 5K would show up. One night in the middle part of the bottom of the 9th, a 5K game, now less, we went and sat down behind home plate. An usher showed up and told us to move. The guy in front of us had like 10 season tickets and invited us to sit with him. We were like, bonus! About 10 minutes later the usher showed up with 5 cops who gave us the choice to leave the stadium or go to jail immediately. Bonus round: My friend and I were perp walked out of the stadium by two cops each, they were not pleasant people. We discovered that cops have a way of getting your arm behind your back and keep pushing it up. The situation was completely over the top.

When you enter the stadium and walk up to the 100 level, the ceiling is very low and it compress the sound which bounces around, all most bell like. Best seats in the stadium are 200 level 1st base side as you have perfect view of the city and the same food and booze as the served to suites.

507 Jerry Lee was possibly the greatest of the original rockers. Buddy Holly comes close because he invented the concept of the self contained band that became the thing after the Beatles. In many ways Jerry Lee was the originator of "punk rock".. I think he had the best voice of them all. He got derailed when he married the underage girl, they decided to not cover it up but make him the focus of the adult dislike of the blackish\countryish sound that was displacing the Sinatra style that adults liked. Don't get me wrong, Jerry Lee was not an upstanding character but none of them were except maybe Holly. What has always bugged me is the idea that Elvis was King. Artistically he was probably the least important and his only real breakthrough moment was the Sun Sessions and he dropped that for mo money in a heartbeat.

That was the greatest World Series I had the joy of watching until the Cubs vs Indians series. I am pretty sure I put a few holes in the sheet rock from bouncing off the wall for that game. Before I croak I want to see just one World Series game. Doing that holds the first 5, maybe 10 spots on my bucket list.

527 I never sit more than a few innings at the Safeco, now T-Mobile Park. One can walk around the entire stadium and still watch the game, peeking in the row entrances.

One of my favorite areas is the outfield end of the 300 level on the 3rd base side, where there are built in stools to eat and watch the game. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg

I have spent more than a few games grazing my way around the stadium, that is such a lovely experience. Another fun place are the left field bleachers, total riff raff section and it has the best hecklers.

I'd say you turned out fine, but look at thr dregs of society your interacting with here.

But honestly that's my feeling too. I hung out with people society would probably deem less than ideal, metal heads and kids you'd probably think were gang bangers (not the pornhub kind) yet we'd go either play music, or D&D, and as long as I didn't commit any crimes my parents were fine.

Today a kid says a bad word, points his finger or does something normal and we've labeled them a child terrorist who needs mind altering medication.

Would you please pray that the end comes swiftly and painlessly so that he can be reunited with "his" girl (our late daughter)? She loved him so much for many, many years.

And I am selfishly going to ask for prayers for me - since the end of last year, I have lost a wonderful dog, the sweetest cat, my dear father, and now I'm about to lose another much-loved cat. I am emotionally spent at this point, and I need....something.

Thank you in advance.

Bum is (well, he's in his dottage) a very good regular season pitcher but is one of the all-time clutch postseason pitchers. 2014 was one for the ages. He was a rookie during 2010 and I remember one of the announcers saying during his game against Texas in the Series that he may be (as in become) the best pitcher the Giants have, and that year Lincecum was still unhittable and Matt Cain was a dominant #2.

The common thread in nearly every one of these mass murders are young men who in their late teens develop full blown paranoid schizophrenia and because they have an evil soul act on their obsessions resulting in unimaginable horror that is not only imaginable but reality.

Odds on a whole bunch of people in Uvalde knew this guy was a lunatic and capable of anything. This is a pretty common data point, there is a very specific profile to these madmen. Our civil commitment laws need to change so we can lock these lunatics up. This is something, a place to start.

He also dropped a backpack containing several magazines full of ammunition near the school entrance."

If true, we need a complete rethink of tactics. The expectation for anyone in law enforcement should be to immediately engage until the killer is dead or the LEO is disabled. No waiting. No hesitation. Engage until the target is dead. Even if it costs the LEO's life.

Quick thoughts. There needs to be a bigger understanding of this video before drawing any conclusions. Most importantly it is not clear when this video was taken: during the carnage or after?

The implications of this, if it shows exactly what it is purported too, are important and horrifying.

After watching it a couple of times there were plenty of well armed LEOs at the scene who seemingly felt their best and highest duty was to herd screaming parents around to keep them from storming the school. If this is true, good God, they could have stormed the school and terminated the carnage and chose to do nothing.

628 Onlookers urged police to charge into Texas school
Associated Press 2 hours ago

Meanwhile, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation said the Border Patrol agents had trouble breaching the classroom door and had to get a staff member to open the room with a key. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Officials say he "encountered" a school district security officer outside the school, though there were conflicting reports from authorities on whether the men exchanged gunfire. After running inside, he fired on two arriving Uvalde police officers who were outside the building. The police officers were injured.

About a half-hour before the mass shooting, Ramos sent the first of three online messages warning about his plans, Abbott said.

Ramos wrote that he was going to shoot his grandmother, then that he had shot the woman. In the last note, sent about 15 minutes before he reached Robb Elementary, he said he was going to shoot up an elementary school, according to Abbott. Investigators said Ramos did not specify which school.

Ramos sent the private, one-to-one text messages via Facebook. It was not clear who received the messages.

Javier Cazares, whose fourth grade daughter, Jacklyn Cazares, was killed in the attack, said he raced to the school when he heard about the shooting, arriving while police were still gathered outside the building.

Upset that police were not moving in, he raised the idea of charging into the school with several other bystanders.

"Let’s just rush in because the cops aren't doing anything like they are supposed to," he said. "More could have been done."

"They were unprepared," he added.

The BORTAC agent, whose identity has not yet been revealed, rushed into the school without waiting for backup.

Ramos was behind a barricade, returning fire, but the border patrol agent managed to shoot and kill the gunman before he could claim more victims.

'They came in from opposite sides. The BORTAC agent ended up exchanging gunfire with the shooter, killed the shooter, and I am told that the agent was injured in his leg,' reported Fox News.

664 Morning, all,

I really like the painting or photo (?) Ace used to top the Cafe post last night. It's sort of like the setting for an old Universal werewolf movie.

665 MLII, Skip, and Puddleglum are all in a rush this morning. I slept later too and will have to drive through some rain probably this am as well. Usually I make up most of my lunch, the snacks and the slices of cheese that will go on the crackers, the night before, but not always. The salad I have to make up not long before I leave -- it would be far too soggy if I made it up before bedtime and popped it into the refrigerator.

672 If I remember correctly, he had a tumor the size of a chicken egg in his head.

I grew up in Austin, and I remember my dad, who was a doctor, saying at the time that the ME was so incompetent that he could have ID'ed his pituitary as a tumor.
So, we'll never know.

675 "The first one, is that we act all as stakeholders of larger communities, so that we serve not only our self-interests but we serve the community. That’s what we call ‘stakeholder responsibility." Adolph Schwab

So the most responsible and patriotic citizens are the ones carrying guns and protecting their neighborhoods, when the police won't? George Zimmerman, call your agent.
