The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“I am concerned about it,” “As we move forward, we need to know that when you put a solar panel or a wind turbine up, it’s not the same as a thermal resource.”MISO Chief Executive John Bear

Quote II

We need to be cads, rogues, heartbreakers. Love and politics mix like Brian Stelter, who is a potato, and gyms. We need to be cold. Ruthless. We need to give them a false name and leave a fake phone number on the nightstand. Kurt Schlichter

Quote III

“It’s reprehensible that she would tweet out something that is defamatory to an entire religion. This state was based on religious freedom. I’m proud as a Pennsylvanian to uphold those founding beliefs that every faith has its merits.” PA Republican Senate hopeful Mehmet Oz

Quote IV

“As far as the community part, I think AB is right. We haven’t heard anything that Kaep did for the community or given back to the community after the settlement,”Adam "PacMan" Jones

Interesting since "PacMan" is no paragon of virtue.

When do the moonbats come for Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis of the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles?

Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis of the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles issued the ruling on Friday in response to a lawsuit from Judicial Watch on behalf of three California residents challenging the law.

The law required publicly held companies headquartered in California to have one member who identifies as a woman on their board of directors by the end of 2019. It then required boards with five directors to have two women and boards with six or more members to have three women by January 2022.

Companies that failed to report board compositions to the California secretary of state’s office could be subject to a $100,000 fine under the law, while multiple failures to have the required number of women board members could result in a $300,000 fine, according to the Associated Press.

Yours truly is not thin. And I enjoy good food too much and not enough exercise. But there comes a time when modesty comes into play. And I have no idea why an unhealthy obese lifestyle is celebrated.

Plus size model Isabel Nicholls Nall has wowed fans with her latest body positive post.

The social media influencer, who boasts 242,000 Instagram followers, took to the site to pose in her underwear.

And as sassy as ever, the blonde beauty also dubbed herself 'your fat friend x' as she did so.

The photo saw Isabel, 22, showed off her cleavage and stomach as she wore the black lingerie top and matching bottoms.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

The new White House press sec. Karine Jean-Pierre appeared to dodge a question from Fox News’ Peter Doocy about a tweet from President Joe Biden regarding inflation.

“Karine, congratulations, it’s nice to see you up there,” Doocy began. “The president’s Twitter account posted the other day if you wanna bring down inflation, let’s make sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share. How does raising taxes on corporations reduce inflation?”

“Um, so, are you talking about a specific tweet?” Jean-Pierre, who appeared stumped, asked.

And here she seemed so darn nice and wholesome.

A former Arizona high school counselor – who previously helped students organize a drag show – was arrested and accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl, according to police.

The Tucson Police Department's Child Sexual Assault Unit received a report of an inappropriate relationship between Zobella Brazil Vinik, 29, and a 15-year-old student at Tucson High Magnet School. At the time, Vinik was a counselor at Tucson High Magnet School. Authorities launched an investigation into the claims on May 3.

Don't piss down our backs and tell us it is raining.

Despite his agency shutting down the nation’s largest manufacturer of baby formula for months, the head of the Food and Drug Administration on Monday blamed a “distribution problem” for empty store shelves across the US, as lawmakers fumed about a lackluster federal response to the crisis.

“I don’t want this to sound in any way like we’re not concerned about the parents that are struggling to find formula for their children,” FDA Commissioner Robert Califf said on CNN. “That’s definitely happening in parts of the country. But you know, the number of stock on shelves is about 90% before … the recall, and it dropped to about 79% at its lowest, and we’re on the way back up now.”

Califf went on to insist that “there is formula out there” before blaming the shortages on a February recall by supplier Abbott Laboratories of name-brand formulas produced at its plant in Sturgis, Mich.

Dio’s career began in 1957 with The Vegas Kings, which later changed to Ronnie and the Rumblers, then Ronnie and the Redcaps, then in 1961, Ronnie Dio and the Prophets. In 1967, Dio and Prophets guitarist Nick Pantas formed the Electric Elves, which shortened its name to Elf. MAY 16--A Florida Woman is facing felony charges for allegedly beating her husband with a belt after she “caught him watching pornography on his cell phone and masturbating,” according to police.

Angela Davis, 30, was arrested Tuesday morning following a confrontation with the 51-year-old victim at their home in Summerfield, a Central Florida community.

Davis’s husband told cops that he had “gotten into a altercation” with her after she interrupted his pleasure session. The victim said Davis “became angry and asked to see his phone,” and that he complied with her request.

After Davis “discovered some sort of communication between the victim and someone on the website Reddit,” police reported, a “verbal altercation ensued.”

The dispute subsequently turned violent, cops charge, after Davis “wrapped a leather belt with a large metal buckle around her fist.” The victim told cops that when he took out his phone to dial 911, Davis knocked the device from his hands and struck him several times with the belt on his arms and back.

75 >>How does raising taxes on corporations reduce inflation?”

Theoretically, if you take a bunch of money from rich people, you are in effect reducing the money supply and reducing consumption, and instead of spending this taxed money, you move to deficit neutral policies, while simultaneously paying down the deficit, this could potentially allow for equilibrium of the system and a return to nominal inflation and a recovering economic picture.

Theoretically.

Their leading philosophers determined that when faith and science collided, faith was in the right. This is completely opposite to Christian philosophers.
Also, early muslim society also spent a good amount of time digesting and using Greek and Byzantine science and techniques which gave them a leg up over Europe which did not have those resources until the end of the reconquista in Spain, and the translation and spread of, mostly, Greek science and Arabic mathematics. It corresponded with the development of the printing press in Europe as well, which jump started the distribution broader and faster than it could be digested or controlled by TPTB in that era.

This began a period where Islam contracted and became very conservative, and European society began to accelerate in innovation.

So apparently after the FDA shut down the Michigan plant, creating the formula shortage, Abbott demonstrated to the FDA that the bad formula did not come from them, the FDA slow walked everything and when the administration started to get heat, threatened to sue Abbott labs to force them to open, Abbott labs told the administration that it was their FDA that was keeping them shut down, so apparently within the last day, Abbott and the FDA came to an "agreement" to open, but it's going to take 2 months to get the plant operating at capacity, meanwhile the administration is attacking Abbott, the largest supplier of baby formula, calling them greedy.

You can say the same for any urban area; basically anywhere where you see more brick, asphalt, and concrete per acre than grass.

When power goes out, you can bet that deliveries are out as well. And your local grocery doesn't have much in the back beyond what you see on the shelves. Know where your local warehouse is ? I do - now good luck shooting your way in, and out, to get what is pretty much three days worth of restock to their particular chain brand.

Just power outages, brown-outs, are going to be a shit-show. Look around, take note of all those folks that are on some kind of oxygen, or motorized scooter, or some other device. They're gonna' die this summer. Now look at all the folks that can't stand a day of the summer heat out in the flower beds. They're screwed too. They ain't gonna' make it.

Nuclear Power should be pursued as a primary energy source, and 2. Homeless Policy in California is a catastrophe that Newsom has done fuck-all about.

So Newsom will start chirping about things now that he'd never consider. Since Apocalyptic Hell-Scape California is one of those states that has the top two vote getters in the primary moving on to the general regardless of party, it'll undoubtedly be Newsom vs. Berenson in the November Finale.

Taxation wouldn't reduce money supply, unless the federal govt. just parked it in it's Fed account. Any money it spends, or even pays off bonds with goes right back into the system.

The only way, with the current Fed system to reduce actual M0, monetary base, is for the Fed to sell off assets, pulling that money out of the system.

129 Islam's core problem is that it is a very top down religion based on submission and obedience; there is no concept of a personal relationship with one's creator that both Christianity and Judaism recognize. In practical terms, it means no questioning is allowed, and independent thought is viewed as dangerous, since it can lead to apostasy.

Also Islam was designed to be a crucial part of the Political Structure, always: there is *No* separation of Church and State such as western civ came to recognize. In Islamic countries, the Church IS the State, and the State IS the Church. Which means it is an act of treason, punishable by death, to question the religious teachings of the state.

These were the basic reasons behind Winston Churchill's famous statement about Islam, which is very un-PC.

They pointed out that it isn't just a matter of leaving it on; there are long term permitting issues with the Feds, and scheduled refuelings and planned for maintenance down the road; they said its too late, they canceled all that stuff and they don't WANT to operate it anymore. So too bad, so sad, Gavin. It's going, going, gone.

163 Winston Churchill on Islam, from "the River War" (always worth a requote):
"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property – either as a child, a wife, or a concubine – must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the faith: all know how to die but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world."

>>The only way, with the current Fed system to reduce actual M0, monetary base, is for the Fed to sell off assets, pulling that money out of the system.

Theoretically, in our current system, once a dollar is "created," it cannot be "destroyed," it simply changes state from, circulating or being held or stored in some unit of measure.

Selling off assets, gains the system monetary units that are held in some form.

But the FED would simply say, poof, monies gone.

When the Fed sells an asset, that money is destroyed. When it buys something, that money is created. It's all electronic, now. Fed buys Ts or MBSes or whatever other crap, it just increments the reserve account of the counter party's bank.

Likewise when it sells, it decrements the reserve account. That money disappears from the system.

So the fun part is, everything costs a lot more, but you get paid somewhat more.

But as salaries rise to meet the cost of goods for a zero sum gain in purchasing power, your tax bracket increases because you are earning higher wages.

224 How does raising taxes on corporations reduce inflation?”

High taxes could in theory lower inflation, if they were paired with real spending cuts - reducing the amount of currency in circulation by taking it from people and NOT spending it is a way to do so.

Of course, Biden is running the presses at warp speed anyway, so taxing companies, which really just means taxing people, isn't doing to work.

Is it my imagination, or are we flying flags at half-staff for way more reasons than in the past? It seems there is a concerted effort to nudge Americans into not holding our flags or heads high anymore. Like we should live in shame and wallow in disaster.

How about if we limit our flag-lowering and find some other way to show our support to our fellow Americans going through sorrow?

Yep. What happened? It takes a while some time. Basically, there was inflation, it just was in specific sectors, assets like stock and house prices (which don't count for the CPI).

The system was trying to reset in '08, and those assets were worthless. But they "saved the system" by printing money and transferring the bad debt to Uncle Sam's balance sheet.

So the inflation was keeping a stock market that should've been nothing greatly inflated, and so forth.

If you look at the Weimar money printing, they got away with that for a while as well, before the inflation went vertical.

There's something called the "Cantillon effect" they talk about it. When the central bank firsts start printing money, it does fan out evenly. In fact it benefits insiders in the system greatly at first. They get real value of it before the inflation destroys the value of the new money.

It's kind of amazing when you think of this juxtaposition:

For almost 50 years the Democrat's have brainwashed their constituents to believe that killing their babies was a wonderful thing that has no moral darkness to it at all. So, about 1600 babies are killed daily in the US, half of them black (from a population that is only 13% of our entire country). These deaths are GOOD to the Dems and they are proud of their role in causing them.

And now a crazy leftist kills 9 black people with a gun and it's allegedly because of "white supremacist brainwashing". Those 9 deaths are BAD.

800 black babies die every day at their mothers' behest, but a single story Tucker Carlson did about racial replacement trends is the ultimate evil that SpongeBrain ShitPants will ride to November.

It looks like the current Russian strategy is to occupy the Eastern part of Ukraine and demand the Russian enclaves and perhaps a strip of land to Crimea.

It means fewer losses for them and less opportunity for the media to use mass shelling of Kiev as ground to call for US intervention/nuking Moscow.

But...you don't have to surrender territory just because someone else occupied it. And since the US is apparently going to replace the entirety of the Ukrainian GDP with "aid" Zelensky could literally fight to the last Ukrainian.

299 From the LifeHacker article about refusing to consent to a search, I 100% agree. Never consent. But he has a glaring error on one thing he states that justifies a cop legally searching vehicle:

Visually examine the interior of the car-if something is in plain sight, the police don't need further justification to proceed to a search and/or arrest. For example, if you have a gun sitting on the passenger seat of your car, the cops will be completely justified in searching your vehicle, even if you have all the proper paperwork for the weapon.

What law has been broken? What articulable suspicion exists that you have or about to commit a crime? If your state bans having a gun in open display in a car, sure, but a number of states consider your car an extension of your home.

I know Mis Hum occasionally links to bad cop videos like the one tonite. It's from the Lackluster youtube channel, one of 3 I subscribe to. The others are Audit The Audit, and We The People University. All do a good job. Know your rights is their mantra.

Then they'll start taking a look at Finland, since they've decided to join NATO.

From day 1 this has been Putin's goal. He wanted the Donbas as a land bridge to Crimea. And he wanted to punish the Azov brigade and other neo-Nazi groups who have been killing ethnic Russians in the region for years with impunity.

The media and the left who have been saying Putin was going to march on Poland and other areas have been, get this, lying.

323 an interesting development in the Musk/Twitter story today. As you must have heard, Musk has put the takeover "on hold" while he tries to verify that less that 5% of Twitter accounts are spam/bot accounts. (that's the number Twitter claims) Twitter said sure, that's easy to do.

Well today, Twitter CEO Agrahal made a long series of tweets saying, essentially "well it's really complicated to say what it is and isn't a spam account, and we don't think anyone outside the company can do it, so you're just gonna have to take our word about it." Musk was not very impressed with that answer.

325 "All debts are paid".

Bankruptcy just shifts responsibility to pay a debt back to the lender or creditors from the borrower. They can write off the debt but that doesn't make it disappear, just again shifts it around on the lender/creditor's books.

Now if only we could figure out the reverse of the fractional lending system, and could shrink the money supply by 1000% when needed without causing damage to the country.

329 Mariupol (the city) has been under pretty much full Russian control for a while now. The only remaining drama was securing the enormous AzovStal steel mill complex, a sort of mini-city of its own (a glorious Soviet-style mass industrial complex). "Reporting" a change of control now is ridiculous distortion, i.e. lies both of commission and omission.

On the active fronts not much exciting or decisive is happening. "Gains" by both sides, small. Maybe not Bernard Lewis' "resistible force meeting a moveable object", but close.

Haven't been able to force myself to follow things closely, even via the few serious observers (not the cheerleaders and propagandists of both flavors), lately. It all comes down to ground action in the east, and any decisive result there will be obvious and impossible to conceal. So checking the play-by-play until then yields little.

He says it's on hold because that's language people can understand. It just means he's still in the contractual period he has to review the books and decide to consummate or not. Twitter hasn't given him its full set of books yet, quite obviously.

It isn't an instantaneous process. Musk made an offer and Twitter's board accepted and an agreement with a shitload of ribbons and seals and such was drafted and signed that also has a bunch of clauses explaining how the parties can get out of the deal if they aren't satisfied with what they discover about the health of the business.

I'm seriously planning to do this, probably sometime this year. News reports say my company is going to include "closing the gender pay gap" in the formula for calculating performance bonuses.

A few days after they officially announce it, I'm going to simply announce that I have switched teams. This will raise the average salary on that other team, and we'll all get bonuses!

By the way, my pronouns, dress, and behavior won't change at all, because doing so would promote the sexist stereotypes of the patriarchy. And who are they to judge me?

391 Mariupol is part of Donetsk oblast, which actually does enthusiastically want to be part of Russia - and will be (as surprisingly feckless as the new-look Russian military has proven to be, resources geography and motivation - ethnic/tribal - assures that both Donetsk and Lugansk will never again be part of Ukraine).

But beyond that, which is to day Zaporozhe and Kherson oblasts, not so clear. The latter has some Russian-speaking populace and pro-Russian sentiment, but its not dominant as in D, L, and Crimea. Zaporozhe, in between, not really on Russia's radar in itself.

"Land bridge" utility needs to be explained, as the Kerch straits bridges have mooted that issue completely. And even if Ukraine regained the Zaporozhe coast of the Azov, access to the world - via the Russian-controlled Kerch Straits - is a non-starter, without conditions that is. Water aqueduct in Kherson for Crimea the only real practical key item on that front.

413 Mariupol not really close to Kiev.

Speaking of which, conjecture about Russian "strategy" has first to explain the airborne operation to Vasilkiv, and the ground spearheads from the north and to Brovary. Which is impossible without some sort of political and "knock-out" element in the mix, as the forces involved were far too small to prevail in any conventional fight (and the airborne got clobbered, a total s**t-show).

Some suggestive indicators of impending Russian mobilization include requirement for reservists to report to recruiting centers and update their info. Possibly suggestive indicators of less-than-monolithic popular support for the operation include molotov cocktail attacks on multiple recruiting centers recently.

425 Sharkman, if I believed that about bankruptcy I would have said it, but a bad debt is a bad debt, and eventually it is not recoverable *and it's gone* is the best demonstration

The problem with going back from fractional lending is that so much is considered assets. In Peel's reform (in England) it allowed savings to be considered an asset, and so they pushed savings and loaned out on that making fractional reserve again.
In the US there has always been a tradition of fiat money since the 1600's when Massachusetts colony issued script to cover for an invasion of Quebec that failed without bringing any booty back, and then there was a secondary market in the script.
With banking reform, there was supposed to be a reserve, but Congress gave out unfunded grants to railroads and played around with the silver/gold ratio.

However, the purpose of non-fractional reserve banking is to rein in money creation, and avoid business cycles, or Panics and bubbles as they have been called, because it restrains money creation, and since the banks make money on loans, they will raise the rates on deposits for savings to attract more money to loan out, at least that is the theory

More women in the workplace so its harder to breast feed a kid on demand. Yes, I know there are breast pumps for woman to use to fill bottles while at work to bring breast milk home to the kidlet, but that's still an inconvenient procedure at work: To pump one's breasts and not make a mes on your work clothes. Also, from what I've heard, some women do not like how their breasts look after breastfeeding.

I think that plays a large roll in his thinking. I saw an article that said when he as a kid he was one of the few whites to attend the funeral of a black friend in SA. I never lived there but traveled there a bunch on business and from what I learned that was not common for a wealthy white kid at the time.

I also wonder if his autism has any factor in his thinking. Being different in any way has to affect your outlook on things.

Maternity leave is something like 6 weeks to 2 months. Babies breast feed longer than that. I've read horror stories where some Moms have breast fed a kid who is 2 or 3 years old, which is really weird. Generally, though, once the teeth start coming in, the breastfeeding slows down.

Posted by: RickZ at May 17, 2022 01:19 AM (ldL4g)

470 Biden since taking over the White House has been institutionalizing in the Democrat party, with ever ramped up smears, that over 1/2 of the country are, falsely, white supremacists and domestic terrorists who pose an existential threat to the nation. Politico now asserts that Biden "has taken to telling aides that he no longer recognizes the GOP, which he now views as an existential threat to the nation’s democracy." With this Biden has crossed over a critical line and declared our form of government dead to go along with his previous damning that half the country are outlaws. This is the clay that forms into pogroms or civil war that will destroy the nation and end up with millions of dead. This is Biden in his fullest expression, and he said this out loud. This is not campaign rhetoric, this is a plan waiting to be unleased. If Roe is overturned, and it most likely it will, a leftist mobilization will be uncorked that will rival the 2020 war on the nation, possibly exceed it. The mid term elections have the potential to be the Left's go for broke moment; anything can happen with Biden in office. Anything. Things are no longer potentially spicy, they are spicy.

Yeah. I get that. And I know that women who don't breast-feed can basically shut off the milk factory by non-use. I sure don't want to defend the Biden junta for mis-managing the the baby formula file, but the fact remains that it is a product that is a dire necessity for a very few, but convenient choice for many.

And I got close to 500 bucks for the load of metal scrap I took to the yard, most of that being the copper pipe from my plumbing job. So that takes a bit of the sting out of the $$$ spent on Pex tubing and fittings therefor.

Even with women who breast feed, it's always good to have a back-up plan because breast milk doesn't always sufficiently flow and baby formula is that back-up plan. Also, while some women breast feed while out and about, for many breast feeding is a personal and intimate act they do not want to put on public display, so baby formula for the win.

A little more power. The 4-banger is barely adequate. You have to use the Hell out of that 5-speed shifter. And , oddly enough, for a truck badged as "sport" there is no tach. Which is actually useful with a manual shift. If the 4-banger turns out to have delivered really good gas mileage on this run, it will be worth its keep. If it is only marginally better than my 350 Suburban, I will stick with the Suburban. Comfort has value, too.

I have heard that they have called back her predecessor, who'd retired, to act as an "advisor." Excuse me, but when I began working, if you weren't able to handle a job, they didn't call back your predecessor to help you out. They fired you and got somebody who *could* handle it. You know, the Germans rolled Stalin's troops for a long, long time. Some of the biggest one sided battles in history. The Germans essentially destroyed the Soviet Union army as it existed at the beginning of the war. The Soviets couldn't fight, they were corrupt, etc.

But they got better. By 43, they were pretty good, and by 45 it would have been a toss up in many ways against us, let along the poor Germans.

Point being, Putins found out a lot about his sucky military. Think it will stay sucky? Just like us at Kassarine Pass getting humiliated, I don't see the Russians staying incompetent for long.

Right now, is there a more experienced military in the world at actual large scale combat operations?

At the beginning of The Great Patriotic War, under Stalinism, someone was to blame for the iniital losses and it wasn't the Boss. Many officers, including commanders/generals, killed themselves rather than face Stalin's wrath via the tender mercies of the NKVD and/or SMERSH. Rigid military doctrine, lack of initiative by all levels of the Red Army and lack of or poor equipment led to the Wehrmacht initially rolling over the Red Army. But Leningrad and Stalingrad changed all that. The Red Army learned to fight thanks to the NKVD/SMERSH machine gun squads behind front line troops insuring they attack; go forward and possibly live, retreat and definitely die. Plus, the Soviets had a large population to waste in a war of attrition whereas the Germans, after 1942, could not adequately replace their losses.

I disagree because the Russkies will continue to be sucky. Their equipment is shoddy and poorly maintained. Their soldiers are draftees violently treated with disdain by the officer corps. Initiative is still looked at askance, even possibly court-martialed. The Russian military is like the Chinese military in that they have a large army in numbers but not quality. Centuries ago, Peter the Great tried to transform the Russian army and navy into competency. It's been downhill for the Russians ever since, with an occasional Borodino offset by a Tsushima Straight.

A critical difference between WII and this Uke war is the Russians were fighting to save their home. Stalingrad makes this point. No amount of command brutality can explain the horror the average solider endured. They all knew what was at stake and their odds of surviving.

In the Uke war that is missing and that does not bode well. I think we are seeing Uke army display that same type of never surrender endurance. That and NATO weapons and intelligence is what has stopped the Russians in the north and at times in the east. Getting the Russians out of eastern and southern Ukraine is going to be a bitch.

512 One last Russia comment:

While technically a part of Europe, historically Russia was Asian and thinks like an Asian nation. As I said above, Peter the Great tried to Westernize/Europeanize Russia's army and navy and failed. And the reason why I say they think like an Asian nation is that the individual soldier has no value thanks to a large disposable population and their military doctrine and tactics reflect that attitude toward their soldiers and is a recipe for disaster as we see happening in the Ukraine.

513 My TV, bought in late 2020, is not as big as yours, somewhere in the 40s, but the images are bright and sharp, and I am surprised by the sound quality from the stock speakers. And it's nice not having to pay for cable. My Internet is a bit more than I paid for cable, true, but I can use that for work. And there was a period, March-Nov. of 2020, where I was paying for both.

40" TVs are just fine, I had one for years. The living room in house I bought in Las Cruces pairs well to a 55". The stock speakers in some of these TVs are pretty good though a modest sound bar and woofer really makes a difference. The cost equation of internet vs cable warrants some careful thought. I would have internet even if I couldn't have streaming services, so there is that. Comcast was hosing me a $100 for internet until CenturyLink upgraded their hardware. I get identical internet service for $50. Added in an antenna and you are good to go. My paid streaming services and internet currently run me a total of $100 for Sling TV, Netflix, Spotify, and Amazon Prime. There is a ton of value in that proposition.

Yep. I maintain the Soviet/Russian army is not good when it comes to initiating attack. But defending Mother Russia from an attack? They are much better than average. Borodino is as good an example of this as much as Stalingrad or Leningrad are.

I *wish* I could get good 'Net for $50. Cox charges about $100, but I have no other paid items. The Internet also goes for work. There's plenty on over-the-air, plus from Tubi, YouTube, and other free sources.

519 RickZ,

If you want to really understand Stalingrad you should look up the YouTube series produced by TIK. It is researched to a level unlike anything I have ever seen or read. Musk even follows it and tosses him question from time to time. Another vector on the WII Russian solider are the Russian war movies. They are full of propaganda but no more than ours. What is true, as near as I can tell, is they capture at times the staggering human sacrifices those troops made to defend Russia.

There is so much high quality free content anymore that paid streaming services are not necessary. I started streaming with a Roku v1 box (circa 2009) so I have more or less seen how all this has developed. In 2009 it was barely functional to now which is now sort of amazing. I have stayed with Roku all this time and it is so excellent a product now, it too is amazing and they are aggressively expanding their channel. You should look at Pluto - it is just great. Peacock in the free tier is excellent too. News: Newsmax, SkyNews, France 24, German DW, and Russia TV. There are alot of excellent free or very low cost services on the Roku platform.

There's a YouTube channel called StarMediaEN which has Russian tv series, WWII related and not, with English subtitles. Some are really good. But the WWII series' have the propaganda of the 'good and noble' intelligence officer bravely fighting the evil German rather than the oftentimes thug they had to be. But if you can get past that, some of the stories are really good. They also show something most Americans don't know or comprehend, the war on the Eastern/Russian Front was brutal. German soldiers are never given 'honorable' treatment as the Russians really hate Nazis -- to this day, and is one reason for their invasion of the Ukraine, the rise of neo-Nazis on its border.

Thanks for the tip. I subscribed. Having spent sufficient time studying the Russian-German war I get how traumatized Russian society was by that experience. It explains much of why the Soviets took over Eastern Europe. Putin is old enough to have internalized all of that and I am positive it colors much of what is up too. Plus there are increasing louder rumors he is dying of cancer, he is just doing a Biden and being transformative by attempting to restore the Soviet Union. I think I get where he is coming from (Russia TV helps here) and at the same time he is complete bastard. I hope he croaks and soon.

This is a very interesting primary. The D frontrunner had a stroke, that has to scramble the vote. I know I wouldn't vote for somebody that had a stroke. The R cockup has lots of undercurrents, a Trump candidate, A GOPe candidate, and Insurgency candidate. Barnette seems not quite ripe for the seat but you know what, she can't be any worse than the alternatives. Plus the alternatives are terrified of her, you can't believe much that comes out of their mouths.

543 “It’s reprehensible that she would tweet out something that is defamatory to an entire religion. This state was based on religious freedom. I’m proud as a Pennsylvanian to uphold those founding beliefs that every faith has its merits.”

Ummm. No. the founders didn't believe "every faith has its merits".

In fact, the protection of religious freedom was about protecting different forms of the practice of Christianity b/c there had been suppression of some denominations of Christianity back in England. Yes, the founders believed in religious freedom - but don't conflate that with the founders believing in moral relativism. They most certainly didn't.

I'd bet not a single founder at the time believed that Islam was equal to Christianity. To me, this statement by Oz shows how little he actually understands the Constitution or American history.
