The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

Musk, multi-billionaire, bought Twitter, a moribund internet platform widely known as the shallow end of the intellectual gene pool, playground for propagandists and professional liars -- excuse me, professional journalists -- and in the process, ripped the scab off the festering wound that is the puss-filled sac of insanity that is the American Left. Matthew Nogo

Quote II

"Evan has pledged not to caucus with either party and to maintain his independence," Kelsey Witt, the communications director for McMullin's campaign

That's because his lips will still be attached to Bill Kristol's dick. Too harsh?

Quote III

“There is no way in the world I can give him a decent Sixth Amendment preparation. It can’t happen.” Attorney John Hull

Quote IV

“I feel like a real man again,” Malcolm MacDonald

Looks like someone needs more than a timeout.

Drivers are warned to keep their car keys away from easy access by burglars.

But perhaps they should also be thinking about people already in the house…?

That’s a lesson one mum has learned, after her son helped himself to her car keys and took her car for a joyride.

The unnamed four-year-old managed to unlock the vehicle, get inside, then take it for a spin – all while wearing his pyjamas.

Yeah right. 'Mayorkas: Disinformation Board Will Not Target US Citizens' Why would we believe this lying sack of excrement?

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Sunday claimed that the new Disinformation Governance Board would not monitor United States citizens.

According to the New York Post, Mayorkas also defended the newly appointed head of the Disinformation Board, Nina Jankowicz, over her ability to suss out disinformation.

Critics have pointed out that Jankowicz denied the credibility of the Hunter Biden laptop story, which has since been verified by The New York Times and other media outlets.

Will the new Disinformation Ministry call out Ukraine?

I'm not holding my breath, neither is Paul Joseph Watson.

It really can't happen soon enough.

Two Teams of Scientists Are Trying to Tell Aliens Where Earth Is Located

If a person is lost in the wilderness, they have two options. They can search for civilization, or they could make themselves easy to spot by building a fire or writing HELP in big letters. For scientists interested in the question of whether intelligent aliens exist, the options are much the same.

A small SCOTUS victory for Christianity and Free Speech.

WASHINGTON — A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Monday that Boston violated the free speech rights of a conservative activist when it refused his request to fly a Christian flag on a flagpole outside City Hall.

Justice Stephen Breyer wrote for the court that the city discriminated against the activist, Harold Shurtleff, because of his “religious viewpoint,” even though it had routinely approved applications for the use of one of the three flagpoles outside City Hall that fly the U.S., Massachusetts and Boston flags.

But when it comes to abortion Roberts will find a legal tax loophole to keep Roe vs. Wade as law.

So after I wrote this at about 6PM Central this came to my In-Box. Will we see the end of Roe vs. Wade?!

Is this a positive sign? Let us hope so.

From the Associated Press:

A school system in suburban Kansas City is eliminating over 100 jobs, including kindergarten aides and library clerks. Oakland, California, is closing seven schools. Other districts around the country are merging classrooms, selling buildings and leaving teaching positions unfilled in order to close budget gaps.

Public school systems are beginning to feel the pinch from enrollment losses tied to the coronavirus pandemic.

Money for schools is driven partly by student headcounts, and emergency provisions in many states allowed schools to maintain funding at pre-pandemic levels. But like the billions of dollars of federal relief money that have helped schools weather the crisis, those measures were not meant to last forever.

We had one worthless president from Arkansas. We don't need another. Oh yeah, you have a snowballs chance in hell of winning the 2024 GOP Nomination.

Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas said Sunday that he's weighing a White House bid in 2024 and that he would still consider running even if former President Donald Trump enters the race.

"You've got to get through, of course, this year. But that's an option that's on the table," Hutchinson, who is term-limited as governor, told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union" when asked if he was seriously considering 2024 run.
Pressed by Bash on whether he would still consider running if Trump decides to seek the 2024 GOP nomination, Hutchinson said the former President's candidacy is "not a factor in my decision-making process."

Are there any countries that haven't gone bonkers?

A government source said: “The Justice Secretary is determined that our prisons up their game in rehabilitating prisoners to drive down re-offending, cut crime and protect the public.

“But wishy-washy, politically correct phrases like 'room' or 'client' dent public confidence in our ability both to reform and to punish those who have broken the law and caused harm to others. The Justice Secretary believes in calling a prisoner a prisoner.”

As subscribers continue to flee in droves, the left-wing Netflix is taking an axe to its original programming development in an effort to rein in spending. The newest casualty: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, whose planned animated series has reportedly been cancelled.

Netflix has dropped Pearl, the working title of the animated series that was created by Meghan Markle through Archewell Productions, the company the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry set up at Netflix last year, according to a report from Deadline.

Social Media, the doom of us all.

The feisty Irishman, who grew up in Swanlinbar, speculates that law enforcement learned about his relic of a firearm from social media, after a visitor to McGovern’s home a few years ago snapped a playful picture of the gun and posted it on Facebook.

Ireland’s police force, known as An GardaSíochána (Irish for “Guardians of the Peace”, told The Post it does not comment on named individuals, but did confirm it executed a search warrant.

Well Duh!!!! Of course there is no Unicorn Dust.

Clean energy has a dirty little secret, just revealed by MIT science writing student Shel Evergreen: Its “unsustainable” appetite for minerals and the dirty ways they’re obtained.

From Evergreen’s report for Ars Technica:

In South America’s Atacama Desert, salt flats are dotted with shallow, turquoise-colored lithium brine pools. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, children chip at the ground for cobalt. In China, toxic chemicals leach neodymium from the earth.

All that extraction “presents humanitarian, environmental, and logistical challenges,” she writes.

Scenes like those might already be familiar ground for those who aren’t wedded to the green fantasy of clean energy. But what you might not know is just how much worse things are going to have to get for Mother Earth if the Greens (no relation) are going to “save” her.

The International Energy Agency warned last year that “to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, overall mineral requirements would need to increase six-fold.”

“Those minerals have to come from somewhere, and that often involves harmful sourcing, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and limits on the mineral supply.”

It’s somehow news that we can’t put minerals that we don’t have into solar panels, electric car batteries, or wind turbines. It ought to be news — GIANT BOLD-TYPE HEADLINE news — that clean energy means increased carbon emissions.

Eric Clapton joined former Cream members Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce for the first of four nights at London's Royal Albert Hall 36 years after they had split up. Tickets were changing hands for more than £500 on eBay and fans had flown over from the USA to witness the reunion, which Clapton aged 60, is said to have agreed to because of the failing health of the other former members of the band. via thisdayinmusic.com

65 Evening.

Caught Red Letter Media's latest review of Picard.

So Mike Stoklasa has Like every Star Trek episode committed to memory. He's the definition of die hard. Well, this show finally killed him. He just came out and said it. Picard poisoned it all for him.

Personally, I haven't given two shits since the end of Deep Space Nine. Voyager sucked, Enterprise was meh... I'll admit the 2009 reboot was fun but the sequels sucked and I quit Fiscovery after six episodes. I still really enjoy the first three series but it ends there.

Please, Moses, Sweet Lord Jesus, Prophet Mohammed, that Hindu dude with all the arms at the center of the Earth...end it. Come together with your freaky deaky mighty magic powers and bring Star Trek to its final end. No more. Let us fondly remember the good while cursing the bad.

I'm Thor's name we pray.

76 Speaking of China and pollution this one still pisses me off...

Leftists in the US decided we couldn't put plastic bags in landfills anymore because...Maria dropped one once and it flew in their favorite tree and they had to wait a whole day for Pablo to come by and get it.

So...they decided to recycle them, but recycling plastic is a dirty, polluting, low paying business - perfect to offshore to China!

But...China caught on to this and...just started dumping the bags in the ocean.

And therefore, you can't use a plastic bag in say NYC because you'll kill a whale off the coast of Asia.

94 Clean energy has a dirty little secret, just revealed by MIT science writing student Shel Evergreen: Its “unsustainable” appetite for minerals and the dirty ways they’re obtained.

States are now outlawing gas cars in a few years. To be able to generate enough NEW electricity to run them (based on the current number of registrations and their average use) electricity generation would have to increase by something like 40%. Not to mention the infrastructure needed to transport it to the individual user.

There isn't enough non-carbon sources to get even a fraction of this. Nuclear? Yeah, right.

I was up late and heard all the racing, drags , donuts and suddenly lots of sirens from all directions. I had no idea so many cars were involved in these things. Cops had set up multiple blockades in advance so the racers were trapped, but sure sounded like they were trying. Like a scene from Fast and Furious.

What's the point of constantly saying we want our representative in DC to do our bidding if they do it and then we whine that we are going to loss an election? The forearm is also kind of hairy so I'm not sure how they handle that. For people transitioning to male there are other considerations as well, options if you will. Fascinating, without images that is.

236 We had eight trees taken down last year. One 40-50' poplar was growing literally about 2' from the house, it's limbs were right over the back deck.

Crew of 6 showed up, every one with a task. They had all 8 down, run through a chipper and cleaned up in about 3 hours. Tactical precision.

Scheduled a crew to come to the Secret Mountain Lair and do a "firewise" trimming of trees. They're booked 4 weeks out. Guess the Bush and Backbone fires the last few years have got a few people spooked.

Yep, if you want any material fraction of the US car fleet to be electric, then you'd best be getting busy building a shit ton of nuclear power plants. I mean a bunch.

And while you're at it, you'd better get to upgrading the transmission and distribution networks to carry that additional load.

Charging a electric vehicle, at a reasonable rate for any distance is like running an electric dryer or two in terms of load.

So, imagine everyone in a dense neighborhood all running 6 - 12 kW of extra load for hours on end. All at once.

I've seen three theories that are equally plausible at this point, since we don't actually know a damn thing.

1. The leak was by a lib clerk to mobilize their forces and try to frighten justices into voting their preferred way.

2. The leak was by a con clerk who was lamenting what could have been.

3. The leak was DeepState Intel, because the court's email system is compromised. (An attempt to explain why it went to Politico's natsec reporter.)

The only practical way to transition America's (or any country's) vehicle fleet over to mostly electric is to go to swappable batteries. Charging stations get built right next door to power plants, so line losses are almost nil, and the existing grid is not challenged. Trucks or rail haul fully-charge batteries from the charging stations to swap stations, and haul the depleted ones back to the charging stations.

Same model that works for gasoline and Diesel vehicles. We don't run gasoline pipelines to everyone's garage.

I don't think anyone is arguing that. When people like Dershowitz and Zoomer Toobin are saying that a leftist actually committed an act that is closer to an insurrection than anything that happened on Jan 6th a line has been crossed that won't easily be fixed then it's a big deal.

For nearly 50 years conservatives have been demanding that the absurdly decided and demonic Roe be overturned because it was shitty law and not the will of the people. And the first time we have had the court and appear to be on the precipice of doing it the left decides to destroy the court. A real insurrection.

If conservatives won't stand up and fight now then we are as full of shit as the left. This is the hill and yes our institutions matter. We either believe what we say or we don't.

I looked a little bit a while back at the chargers they make for these things. Telsa, I think it was. Little 120V on 15A plug is one. Useless. Would take over 2 days to fully charge a typical size battery.

Next up is 240V single phase, takes a 50A circuit. That's where you get your 6 - 12 kW loading. Charge rate will be at 30 miles of distance per hour.

Above that, 3-phase chargers. Didn't see a 208 or 240V listed, but did see 480V. These can get into the rapid charging rates. And, 600V three phase, while I haven't seen that, that would be an option for a fast charger.

Now, charging efficiency. At slow charge rates, think the 15A, 120V model, efficiency will be about 70% max, somewhere around that.

But as you increase the charge rate, efficiency drops to 50%. That is, for every unit of energy you store in the battery, you must waste another unit as heat.

Want to fast charge a 100 kW-hr battery? You're gonna burn 200 kW-hr of energy right there.

Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at May 03, 2022 12:26 AM (VwHCD)

Yeah. They are integrated into the floor pan. But it needn't be that way. Build your floor pan with a cavity in the bottom, 5 feet wide by 7 feet long by 8 inches deep. That's your battery compartment. Battery slots into that, and is retained by 6 big-ass bolts that are also the connection terminals, like the side-terminal batteries on GM cars. You have a robot hoist remove the depleted battery, shuttle it aside, and install a fresh one. Batteries would have tough bottom plates with skid rails, for protection against road hazards.

That's definitely a part of it. But using swappable batteries means the batteries could be charged right at the generation site, instead of overburdening the grid with huge new loads. And you could use wind or solar to recharge those depleted batteries. Might be the best way to use energy from those sources. Batteries don't care if the charging supply is intermittent; it just takes them longer to be recharged.

When I was eee-lectrishin' back some back in the '90s (for fun), they actually built a few macmansions around here, and put three-phase in, 208Y/120V. It was way to get more capacity without having to go with YUGE 400A or even higher services some of those huge things required. That starts to get expensive.

If three-phase distribution lines are available, and you want it, and will pay for it, Mrs. Duke will give it to you.

You probably do. Three-phase is the default distribution mode. They will grab one phase of the line for your house, the second phase for your neighbor, and the third phase for the next guy. Not quite that simple, though.

Me, I am on a single phase rural power line. 16 kV, one wire with ground return. Comes off the three-phase line on the township road about 1200 feet away. I could probably get 3-phase, but it would cost me dearly.

They "clarified" their statement. There won't be any more battery packs from the company that made them originally. Those were the battery packs in the early cars.

The later battery packs are backwards compatible with the early cars, so there is a path forward for owners. Although availability may be limited for the foreseeable future.

It would appear GM really needs some help with their internal communications.

Yep, distribution off the substations is three-phase. You want to balance the load between phases as best as you can. That makes for efficiency. 3-phase is the most efficient.

In the old days out here in the country, that balancing was done on a much wider scale. They'd pull a three-phase line, then split off various single phase spurs down various roads and so forth.

Now, they still do that, but the granularity is getting finer and finer. Subdivisions have popped up like locusts around here, and for the big ones, they'll pull 3-phase right to it. They then go underground, and they distribute the single phase transformers, pad-mounts amongst those three phases. One phase might go do this line of houses, another down the other, etc, etc, etc.

In very dense ones with tiny lot sizes, they'll put a big transformer, maybe 100KVA, and feed several houses off the secondary.

The problem with those huge 100KVA class transformers is they can supply a large amount of fault current. Current that can easily exceed the interrupting rating and withstand rating of cheap residential grade service equipment. If the service drop/lateral is long enough, that will limit it below 10kA usually, but for short runs, it can exceed it.

This has caused problems.

I can't stress how big a fucking deal this leaking of Supreme Court decision is. Turley was on Laura Ingraham going on about it. This will destroy the "good faith" amongst the justices, etc, etc.

Turley, I think was, said that clerks were warned, usually by the Chief Justice, if that any such was leaked, they would be destroyed. Persona Non Grata'd. Their names stricken from the record, as if they had never existed.

So, that's what the Roberts and the other 8 need to do. Terminate this leaker with maximum prejudice.

Just reading. 18 states already have laws on the books that will ban abortion in almost all cases if Roe is overturned. The laws are there, just not enforced, cause of Roe. Maybe they added some clause that if Roe is overturned, this takes effect.

Four more states, including SC here, have similar laws, but with a time limit. SC's is 6 weeks. Legal up to 6 weeks, then not, save for exigent circumstances (life of the mother, etc).

Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at May 03, 2022 01:27 AM (Mzdiz)

492 Roe was always a crutch for the left so they wouldn't have to legislate for abortion. If places like Connecticutt and California want to be abattoirs, let them vote for it and live with it. Public opinion is against Roe across the country, except where liberals reign supreme, like DC. You want to run on abortion in November against the backdrop of the Biden shitshow, have at it.

And even if we could foresee that response, we have no authority to let that knowledge influence our decision. 585 I just finished reading the leaked opinion. It is solidly reasoned and written. What struck me most is it is grounded in the language of the Constitution, the foundational common laws and an accurate understanding of the substantial historical record with respect to abortion. Justic Alito eviscerates the basis for the whole cloth manufacturing of a right to abortion in Roe and then the subsequent standards changing in Casey, apparently based on that same cloth creation. Alito pounds Roe as reading like legislation which it is and that is so far outside the bounds of the court, it can't hold up. And lastly Alito returns such matters to where they Constitutionally belong: the 50 states and voters. The Left is going to attempt to go scorched earth I suspect; nothing will be out of bounds such as leaking the draft in an attempt stir up the abortion crowd in an attempt to pressure the court. The degree that the Left undermined Trump could be repeated here. All in all this is a good ruling. One of the best in decades as it is grounded on and in the Constitution and not much more.

Holmes upheld the conviction and jailing of people opposed to WWI and the draft, comparing that speech to falsely shouting fire in a crowded theater.

This is a such a central point. These enumerated rights are beyond the reach of the Federal and State governments. And if the enumerated rights are modified that is done through a constitutional process. The Marxist-Fascist Uniparty hates this with a passion and use the tactic of rights nullification by outsourcing their destruction to administrative rules of the federal bureaucracy (the new ministry of truth is the latest example), and state governments. Wiping out these rights is central to having the nation end up being Chicom style totalitarian state.

651 Getting re-tired again. Prayers-up for the Justices, this decision and all the unborn lives it saves.

Thanks, Horde. G'Night, Ev'ry-Buddy.

653 What Mr. Musk has done is priceless, really. Well, OK, $45 Billion, I guess. Or more, I dunno.

Twitter stock ever paid a dividend? It sure is now, the lunatics are the gift that keeps on giving. I get a belly laugh at least once a day. Thanks, Elon! I feel like I can call you Elon. No homo.

655 I have always thought the Casey decision which states it should settle the debate - and has been the source of the settled law crowd on this issue - was pretentious bullshit. Poor use of stare decisis doctrine is the cowards way, that is, the left. And I will keep harping on this forerver, where were all this right to choose absolutists during the covid theatrics?

Sounds like a Cheetos or beverage issue. Turn the keyboard upside down and shake it good, real good. and then get out the leaf blower and blow it good, real good. Then reboot the machine if it is Windows. If it is Apple, skip all of the above, just get your wallet out.

661 I hold the view that "Rights" by definition, are something we have simply by being human.

But they don't require someone else to perform, except for very limited circumstances.

The right to self defense, the right to free speech, the right to assemble peaceably, the right of a presumption of innocence. They are also things that predate the existence of our government.

Once people start saying "fundamental human rights" include a Free Pony and Twinkies and College and Reduced Tuition - now you're talking about stuff other people gotta pay for.

If "health care" is a right, doesn't this mean Doctors have to work for free at one level? Don't they deserve to get paid?

And then we see things like illegal aliens on Death Row afforded sex change operations, because it's a "fundamental human right."

Yeah - no, I don't think that's how this is supposed to work.
