Wednesday Morning Rant [Joe Mannix]

mannixape2.jpg

"Oops?" You're going with "oops?"

Eric Schmidt is the former head honcho at Google who has since retired. Nowadays, he's involved in working toward anything that expands big technocratic government - at least when he's not wearing a mirrored vest and elaborate top hat at the super-elite version of Burning Man.

Last week, he was advocating for a new Senate bill to fund scientific and technological research in the United States. He sees this as necessary because the US is losing its edge in scientific and technological endeavors as so much expertise now exists beyond our shores. He isn't wrong about the assessment or even its root causes, but he is, of course, wrong about the solution. But what is the cause of our problems in technical and scientific innovation and leadership?

As described in the Brietbart article about his meeting with Commerce Secretary Raimondo, he actually does hit the nail on the head:

Meanwhile, the loss of the U.S. manufacturing sector also destroyed the economic and engineering foundation for private-sector U.S. researchers, even as U.S. universities imported more Chinese and European scientists to take U.S. science careers.
Schmidt twice acknowledged the disastrous mistake that has been pushed by investors for 15 or more years. “We made a mistake collectively,” he told Raimondo. “This bill addresses that,” he said, adding:
… it provides funding for expansion of these [fabs] but it also provides funding for basic research, basic strategy, and basically get us to where we should have been because of the mistake we made maybe a decade ago. Why is that important? When you study fabs they are a process of continuous improvement, every single day, over and over and over again.

A "mistake." And a collective one at that. He's not at fault. Nobody is at fault. No one could have seen it coming. It was merely a mistake - a little "oopsie" - when we hollowed out our industrial base and offshored everything for thirty solid years thanks to perverse incentives, insane trade policies and globalist economic theory. Nobody could have foreseen that this could have disastrous consequences on our research and development base.

Except that they could, and should have. Why do you need scientists, engineers and other technical people - those much-vaunted STEM folks - if you have no industry? What need is there for chemists or physicists or engineers or production-control experts and so on if there are no factories to run or to build what they develop? Isn't it more efficient to put the research and development work closer to the factory if you can? In same cases, isn't it necessary? Why yes, yes it is. And you can put it closer to the factory. In China or Korea or Taiwan or Japan or Vietnam or India.

But what is the solution to this tremendous problem? Is the solution the reindustrialization of America? Is it using trade, environmental, energy, health, tax, defense and other policies to make the United States more attractive to industrial concerns? Is it to incentivize repatriation of industry and encourage the development of new industries? Is it an America First policy complex to enable the slow but necessary reconstruction of our industrial base and the industrial and scientific power that is downstream - not upstream - of it?

No, of course not. The answer is subsidies and government programs to try to build more technical expertise and capability by bringing in even more foreigners and throwing around even more money, all while addressing zero of the root causes that led to this situation. Centralize the ineffective response in a way that costs a lot of money and hurts American workers while lining Eric Schmidt's pockets some more. That's better than tackling the problems caused by the generation-long experiment in destructive globalist policies.

This is right, proper and fair. After all, it isn't his or his buddies' fault. It was just a collective mistake.

King would have been 21 at the time. Odd that he was so levelheaded then, only to be warped later. Quite possibly he thought what I did at 15: Nixon was promising to end the war, and he didn't want to go to Vietnam.

14 Alright, I guess this is what's going on with this vote.

McConnell maybe wants to win in November, but not very big.

A huge Republican wave would put the onus on him and the other Republicans to perform for the voters/ Performing means losing some of that sweet, sweet graft especially the Chinese money.

So, once again we're back to titrating outcomes.

How can we lose just enough votes to barely change the balance in the Senate and House? How can we have just enough power to get the lion's share of the graft, yet continually frustrate our voters with our lack of power to get anything done, so they'll send us more money to win elections?

Nothing about the country. It's up for sale and destruction. Nothing about the voter's welfare. Fuck the cattle and take their money. Destruction of the Middle and Working classes? Eh, you'll have nothing and like it and be happier.

Sad.

The eternal cry of the idiot leftist - "We didn't know!"

We didn't know

We didn't know - legalizing gay 'marriage' would lead to teachers grooming students as their own sex toys.

We didn't know - allowing tech industries to monopolize would lead to their ability to silence conservatives and establish 'speech code' favoring a tyrannical left.

Except we did know and were shouted down as 'conspiracy theorists' and 'racists' and 'haters.' Schmit ought to have a sweaty, feculent horse cock jammed down his throat until he chokes.

He'll become senator, vote for all the leftist things, and then have ads about how much he loves his guns almost as much as he loves his family. And then he'll get re-elected.

Why? Because Democrats don't actually want the crazy leftist bullshit, but they're partisans so they keep voting for it. He just needs his foot in the door.

Guys, I get your points about Tim Ryan. But you're missing the forest for the trees.

Whereas Titty Caca is warning that the Dems will get shellacked, her concern is that they're not Maoist enough. Tim Ryan - regardless of his truthfulness - is presenting a message because he realizes a much larger percentage of people including traditional Democrats are fed up.

NC lost textile mills every year during the 80s. Most went to India. Oddly, for every textile mill that was close the per capita income of workers went up. This is largely due to the invasion of Yankee Refugees from the NE and Upper Midwest needing homes and roads and such. The Yankee Exodus started in 1969. Blue shitholes are shitholes cuz the talented Yankees could not afford to live there anymore.

Inflation and shortages are causing supermarkets and consumers to shift away from big name brands, I was just reading. They're going more to the low cost store brands, and the grocery stores are shifting shelf space accordingly.

I noticed some of that locally. One of the local Food Lions now has a bunch of generic store brand ketchup, when it used to be all Heinz and Hunts.

Brand loyalty, which used to be pretty solid, is now crumbling due to inflation and shortages.

A sales guy from Keyence sold shit tons of sensors to the textile industry here in Kalifornia in the 90s. Beleive it or not one of the biggest areas for growing cotton had a huge textile industry. EPA said the the textile factories had to upgrade their plants on a very short schedule. So short schedule means high cost and no production during retrofits. So many of them moved production off shore "temporarily." Guess what? they never came back except a small number of boutique factories. Big Gov had a big hand in off shoring textiles.

Its pretty easy to justify that in your head as a politician. "How can I help and serve the people if I am out of office?" So that's when the compromises, corruption, and loss of integrity begins: my first goal is to stay in this job.

Neuropathy isn't too tough to spot. It starts with little unexplained stabbing paints in your feet and legs. Then it becomes a nearly constant low level grinding pain like an itch that goes too far. Then it becomes an inability for parts to properly control their heat, so your feet are constantly like blocks of ice you cannot warm up and are uncomfortable to touch anything with. Then numbness. If its the kind that is progressive, it moves up from your feet up your legs slowly over the years.

The entire grant reviewing, approving and funding apparatus behind government subsidized science is warren after warren, and silo after silo, of incestuous cabals of "scientists" scratching one another's backs.

And they kept all of their manufacturing onshore, either directly in the USA, or no further "offshore" than Puerto Rico or other U.S. Territories. It *can* be done, but it takes some dedication and commitment to GET it done.

They did consider the Chinese option, and the largest in the industry "went there", and their garments and goods are crap as a result. Keeping production expertise in-house does have a higher upfront cost, but offers a much higher profit and reward AND CONTROL of the entire production chain, preventing being held hostage to disloyal offshore subcontractors.

I've been buying store brands since I got out on my own in the '70s. Before that -- I'd buy the store brand of liquor and beer to save $$.

That didn't always work out. A & P carried a brand called Harwood Canadian that *only* came in quarts, not fifths, as if the distillery was trying to get rid of the product as fast as they could. Stuff gave me headaches before I went to sleep.

260 Nabbing this quote from the Morning Report, as this may become more important in the future:

"Even with that, I believe the info from the actual computer itself is what's needed for legal purposes"

It's not. The video/photos alone are radioactive and some have already been corroborated in terms of date/time through various means.

I've mentioned this before; someone distributed them anonymously to porn sites and attributed them to various other sources. But the chans won't even let censored bits stay up for very long, everyone is (rightfully) scared shitless of the FBI.

They probably got the idea from the Bidens' people uploading the not-blatantly-illegal videos so that they could point to Pornhub and say "look these are fake, they just repurposed porn to pass it off as Hunter!" (which they also did themselves to muddy the water). And that wasn't just to give cover for some of the footage from the laptop - HUNTER HIMSELF had an account and was uploading footage of himself banging hookers.

This is all beyond fucked but I'm not holding my breath for more of the truth to get out.

It still makes no sense to me to farm out critical technolgies or services to foreign powers.

In that WSJ article about the shift to local brands, it quotes retailers as saying it's giving them leverage over the big brands. The ones that are doing the best are the ones that can maintain consistent, if not perfect, supply. And some of the off-brands are beating the big boys on that.

I've even noticed what may be evidence of that locally. Little Debbie. She was a big bully. Grocery stores had to carry her shit in a special area, and could not put any competing products nearby. And Little Debbie's henchmen had to be allowed to come in and do the stocking of that dedicated space.

Now, one of the local Food Lions is putting competing products on the same space as Little Debbie. And even puts Little Debbie in several places over the store.

Coupled with abortion, it only seems to be gaining in political power in all of the normal Democratic strongholds and pushing into more conservative areas via 'education' of our children.

Anecdotal only of multiple couple friends. I've found that if it's the wife who wants it you can have success. If it's the husband who wants to try it not so much. Women have usually made up their mind when you get to that point.

Yeah, but don't go to a psychologist or any academic one that wants to help your marriage fail by finding out what's wrong with it. Find a faith-based one that wants to help you get through it.

I recommend Emotionally Focused Therapy. Look for the term in your area.

Check out some books, too. When Sorry Isn't Enough is a good one, as is Fighting For Your Marriage. That's a start.
You've got some work ahead of you. If it's worth it get to work.

Success? No. It can work if you have the right counselor and right set of circumstances, i.e. both parties actually want to work it out. If one party has already made up her/his mind, then the counseling is just cover for them to tell their friends that they did everything they could but you just wouldn't come around/sabotaged it/refused to even try to make it work.

All for it if both of you are willing and not just looking for someone to listen to bitch sessions and not accomplish anything.

There is a style of counseling where you each have your own counselor who meet with you individually and they then collaborate together with you both.

This was the direction my sister went - they made it through their rocky patch successfully.

Direction I was hoping to go as I started the process. My ex had no real interest...she was done.

But having the in-house technical expertise is just as important as having production in-house. It will take a while for the damage to be fixed and that's only if they WANT to fix it.

414 Notice how the "mistakes" (as well as the costs) are always collective. But the profit? It's never collective, but always "earned" by the individuals (such as Eric Schmidt).

The socialization of costs and blame but privatization of profits and benefits has plagued America for sometime now. It's a super-convenient formula for our oligarchic elites. They never pay a price for their huge mistakes. After all, "we all made them." But they always earn mega-bucks, no matter what. The sooner we break up these tech monopolies the better.

415 R&D based on government funded work requires companies that can bring lab discoveries to the marketplace. The US has laws in place to encourage that (Bayh-Dole, Stevenson-Wydler). What is needed is for the feds to provide an environment that encourages investment, not crony capitalism. But this is just preaching to the choir.
