Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Ho, Hum, Inflation Sets Another Record, Hitting the Highest Level in 40 YearsUS inflation soared 7.9% in past year, a fresh 40-year highOh look, they forgot to mention the fact that the dollar was devalued by multiple rounds of multitrillion dollar "stimulus." "The numbers are eye-watering, and there is more to come," said Eric Winograd, senior economist at asset management firm AllianceBernstein. "The peak in inflation will be much higher than previously thought and will arrive later than previously expected." ... Seeking to stem the inflation surge, the Federal Reserve is set to raise interest rates several times this year, beginning with a quarter-point hike next week. The Fed faces a delicate challenge, though: If it tightens credit too aggressively this year, it risks undercutting the economy and possibly triggering a recession. That's Our Brandon! From January to February, nearly every category of goods and services got pricier. Grocery costs jumped 1.4%, the sharpest one-month increase since 1990, other than during a pandemic-induced price surge two years ago. The collective price of fruits and vegetables rose 2.3%, the largest monthly increase since 2010. Gas prices spiked 6.6%, clothing 0.7%. For the 12 months ending in February, grocery prices leapt 8.6%, the biggest year-over-year increase since 1981, the government said. Gas prices are up a whopping 38%. And housing costs have risen 4.7%, the largest yearly jump since 1991. Lydia Boussour, an economist at Oxford Economics, estimates that if oil remains at $120 a barrel for the rest of this year -- which it topped Tuesday before slipping -- it would cost U.S. households $1,500, on average. It would also weaken economic growth by about 0.8 percentage point this year, she said. Many economists have cut their growth estimates for 2022 by roughly a half-point to about 2.5%.I saw a forecaster predicting $150 per barrel. Wait, aren't both gas and food excluded from inflation calculations?
Posted by: Moron Rubie - Enjoy your new DNA at March 10, 2022 01:53 PM (cUuEU) The BLS calculates CPI with food and energy, and a "core" CPI without it. The core is useful for longer time periods, since energy and food are both highly volatile and that makes it difficult if you're trying to include inflation in other models. But even if you don't directly include food and energy, long-term increases in food and energy prices will eventually drive up the core CPI so they eventually get included anyways. All Brandon and the Junta have done is spend tons of borrowed money on Progressive dream projects. Child Tax Credits, extended COVID unemployment benefits, buying millions of doses to give away to sh!thole countries around the world, and so on. The Junta has not done a damned thing to bring manufacturing back to the US, or to boost steel, oil, electricity, textile, or mining production in the US. Because he and The Junta have never had concrete plans for any of that. Brandon will soon be touting the start of a bunch of infrastructure projects that he'll claim all the credit for, from the bill passed and signed last autumn. But he really didn't care about infrastructure other than building a half-zillion EV charging stations across the country. The only economic plan he has is destroying the petroleum sector. Right. Brandon's first action as Executive was to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline. Then they get away with gaslighting the lofos with the idea that they had nothing to do with this pain.
The main argument I see on social media from left-tards right now is that Keystone wasn't done when Biden cancelled it so it has no effect on gas prices. Its part of a general trick the left has done with energy prices forever; In good times: We shouldn't increase energy supply now because we don't need it. In bad times: We shouldn't increase energy supply now because it won't fix the problem NOW. Posted by: 18-1 at March 10, 2022 02:14 PM (ESjRY) 267

The main argument I see on social media from left-tards right now is that Keystone wasn't done when Biden cancelled it so it has no effect on gas prices. -- It certainly has an effect on our energy independence in the future. There's the old Greek joke about the German couple on a leisurely vacation in Greece. They pull into a charming town and decide to check into a small hotel.
"Certainly sir", says the innkeeper, "but we require the first night up front". So Mein Herr peels off a hundred Euro note and gives it to the hotelman, and then he and his wife go walking off, looking for a lunch spot. Immediately, the hotel keeper runs over to his meat supplier at the mans farm on the edge of the village and uses the 100 Euros to pay off his longstanding debt. The farmer gleefully accepts the 100 Euros and immediately walks over to pay off his local hooker, to whom he owed money. Worried she might spend the money on some frivolity, the hooker runs over toward the hotel, passing the German couple as she ran, and paid off the hotel keeper for past room use. She left satisfied her business was now back in a healthy state. Just then the vacationers, having changed their mind, walk in and ask for their money back, telling the inn keeper they've decided to push on. The Germans leave the Greek town behind, now completely solvent. Posted by: Huck Follywood, Break The Teachers Unions at March 10, 2022 02:26 PM (mcCnG) 377

Yeah, at at certain income levels (you exceed them, from what you wrote) this is true. But it is only true for so long. There is still a labor market and a big factor in the "Great Resignation" is dollar-chasing. The salary bands will have to increase or companies will be unable to acquire people. This will happen first in the lower middle incomes, but it will get to everything.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at March 10, 2022 02:19 PM (DU+/6) == Yep, and many companies just do not have the pricing power to absorb the cost. Solar and wind have no relationship to the cost of gasoline, and oil is not used much for power generation in the US. The only relationship would be replacement of all vehicles with Teslas. Posted by: ShainS -- Honk Semper Tyrannis! at March 10, 2022 02:46 PM (v72l5) ++++++++++++ It's not just Ds -- if you haven't noticed if they can't take taxpayer money and give it to private individuals/schools/corporations, they don't do it at all. Obamacare not only requires people to buy insurance from private companies, but the Medicaid expansion part of it is a private insurer takeover of Medicaid (no single payer system anymore, the state pays a monthly fee to 3 or 4 private insurers for everyone "enrolled" in each insurer's Medicaid program). Federal government student loan programs is 100% a way to get taxpayer money into the hands of universities. Hence every half-wit out there has a college degree and thinks they're smart (which is why there are so many worthless programs at universities now like gender studies) All of these private actors then turn around a give a good portion of those funds to the pols. I take it as a matter of faith that when the Republicans win the House this fall, they'll have legislation lined up like jets on a runway. Kinda like when Paul Ryan was Speaker of the House.

Funny thing about mid-grade gasoline. Virtually no refineries make it and most gas stations only have 2 gasoline tanks. Regular and Premium. They just mix them 50/50 to give you mid grade.

The AI conversation module upgrade was actually a little buggy. It was a rush "upgrade". There were some bad interview moment with ver 1.0.
>You may want to look into the Willard Romney firmware upgrade. It's a standard flash module available for download. == *Shudders* Look that was a early prototype failure. For some fcuking reason it decided putting the dogcage on top of the car for a 2000 mile road trip was no big deal, even tho it had the dog inside the cage. I hated that build. Prove it. == No you will have to wait for the next one to prove they cheated by nearly 19 million people in the next couple elections. They just telegraphed their margin of cheating to everyone listening. Now they have to figure out where to inject those 19million ghost votes to tip the scales. Just use the octane you car says to use. There is no point it giving it higher octane.
On modern cars the ECU can sense the fuel type and adjust the settings so it'll appear to run OK on the lower-grade gas but things are more optimal the higher-grade the gas is. If you're running a '69 GTO (and it better be orange), none of that matters. Posted by: Ian S. at March 10, 2022 03:12 PM (ZGrMX) 659

== Its hard to tell in the real world, but the maths work out that the higher octane will give you more mpg. It also delivers more horsepower, which as a practical matter tends to induce more foot stomping not less. Human nature. Keeping your tank full when prices are outrageous is much better than letting it get empty. You're going to pay the same amount in the end, but smaller bites are much easier to manage.
