Finally glanced at Cdr Salamander thing someone linked earlier. First reaction to the quote from former SecDef Gates - that Putin now requires change of Uke govt. or to take the whole country - seems very, very, very off. As in, hard to believe Gates would say such a thing.
Accepting even a few parts of the Russians' proposed mutual security pledge (specifically no NATO membership for the Ukes, no short/medium-range missile systems based there) would easily give Putin everything he needs. This is obvious from Russian media and foreign policy discussion shows. This is all apart from the Donbass situation, which has its own dynamic and difficult details, but really isn't part of the bigger picture. There was a great comment by someone earlier that the only fight over Ukraine is whether Western or Russian grifters benefit from the graft and corruption there. A war over spoils for politicians, how marvelous!
This morning my speculation was close to that by asserting that Ukraine is a huge money laundering operation in the same sense that the Iraq Oil for Food program was a way that multinationals could provide goods and services in exchange for plundering Iraq's oil wealth. Europeans aren't so excited about Ukraine because its mostly the US politicians who are invested in the scam continuing. Russia is a threat merely because they want that warm water port and to repatriate traditional Russian ethnicities living in what is now Ukraine. Putin will disturb the graft. The Embassy evacuation is just an obfuscated cover to burn all the evidence. That is why European media doesn't understand the over-reaction. Its about hiding the paper trail of corruption. In defense of the young lady who did the belly flop, my college had a diving team. My wife was on it. None of the people on it had much training. They learned just very simple dives. I don't recall anyone being much good at it, but they had fun.
Our small HS regularly competed against a Michigan swim team , I think it was Ypsilanti or Ann Arbor, our divers were pretty good, but their team had this dude who was practically perfect and swept the diving part of the competition. Last time I saw him dive was when he won silver at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Evac of non-essential personnel has no bearing on records and documents. Destroying them would be same violations as they would be in any other context. Remember almost all post documents have two, or three, or more "ends" to them, that is recipients/correspondents etc who are part of any action, communication, or decision. So even destroying post copies wouldn't mean anything.
Plus who thinks actually illegal or even improper activities will be documented? Closest you'll get is like the materials produced for the first ridiculous impeachment, which contained post assessments of local characters and organizations. Those actually would have been nukyler stuff, in an America long gone, but on the current point, they didn't document any corruption of the sort people are talking about. Diogenes, closest I got to Sinop was way across on the Georgian coast. Poti, Kobuleti, Batumi (never got to Sukkhumi, festivities then ongoing).
