Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thank you for stopping by this afternoon. Forget about current events and enjoy the world of animals.

A Little of This. A Little of That.

Here is another reason why we kennel/crate our dogs when we leave home.

Meet The PetMorons

I wondered why the bird feeder was suddenly empty each morning. One day I got up early enough to photograph the culprit.

This is a mule deer in the high desert of northeastern Oregon near the Painted Hills. ign me long time lurker

What a gorgeous animal. The white tail deer here at Casa Misanthrope polish off the black oil sunflower seed as if it were going out of style. Thanks for getting up early and nabbing this photgraph.

Hi MH,

This is Skipper, our 8-year-old Parson Russell 'Terrorist.' When he's not jumping or otherwise demonstrating boundless energy, he enjoys treating the entire house as a giant dog bed! - Lurker Scott

Oh what an adorable little guy. How dare you call him a Terrorist? Thanks for sharing Skipper with us today.

What a regal looking dog in his back yard with his doggeh toy under paw. Condolences on the loss of your pal Armond.

Here is Fluffy, our dumb, lovable boxer. We had to put her down the other day. She had inoperable tumors all over including the brain. She did somehow manage to live to 13 years despite being diagnosed with a terminal blood cancer 4 years ago. I guess she was too dumb to know the cancer was terminal. I am also including a picture of Casper, who we put down 4 years ago and shared with the Pet Thread. I am grateful for both of them and for the joy (and headaches) they brought to our family. - CN

So sorry to hear of Fluffy's passing CN. However your "dumb" dog loved you so much she just wanted to hang on. I bet your house is mighty empty. Although it was painful for you to share today. Thank you.

The In-Box was light this week. For those who submitted photos with stories, thank you very much.

I have no problems accommodating doing that, pets are good for our well being as well as us for theirs, Happy pets make us Happy and sick pets worry us and require our attention more than normal.

and Mrs, REDACTED, being from Baltimore, has an aversion to lamb fat

so she gave our bichons the fat
both got horribly sick, like the runs for 48 hrs
I missed 2 nights of sleep

they are on a chicken breast/ rice diet now and are doing a lot better

will be 100% by Monday

I'm considering putting out a deer bait/feeder in the back yard. Not for hunting, we live within city limits, but for capturing with my game camera, and as part of our MegaRoy cat entertainment system.

Many moons ago, when my apple head Siamese (Tokyo Rose was his name) was a little bitty quarter pounder and barely four months old, I saw an adult kitty with a head cold at the vet's office when we took him in for his baby kitten shots. Poor head cold kitty looked miserable. Hope Miss Lucy is only clearing our her sinuses and not getting a kitty head cold.

I actually went through that with dogs a few months back. I thought it was going to be easy. Turns out not so much. Yes, they get picked up quickly. In my area it's mostly pit bulls with lots of baggage (have to sign waiver) or chihuahuas from the same people. I'm looking for something right in-between, and struck out several times. By the time a photo is up, the dog is spoken for. I think that's great TBH, so happy people are adopting.

Apparently we have an invisible sign, only visible to cats, that says 'Cats Welcome Here' so they just arrive - wandering kittens, young ferals, young apparently domesticated (or just naturally friendly), occasionally already 'fixed', others are full grown or even middle-aged which have obviously been abandoned, even a couple of pregnant mamas who have produced a few but adorable babies. So we are blessed (ahem) with a plethora of kitties, all vying for the few human laps.

79 Afternoon, all,

A grand group of pets today!

No, I've never seriously called any of my cats "dumb." True, little Oreo the longhaired tuxedo cat was nobody's genius, but she was smart enough to know she was loved and protected. On the other end of the range, Marie-Antoinette the longhaired black cat would have been a feline Mensa member. Most have been in between, smart in some departments and not so swift in others. I try to make Miss Linda laugh by saying Chekov belongs in special ed; that never works, and isn't true anyway.

He's doing okay. Some of you suggested sources for CBD oil to help with his arthritis if my vet okays it, and I will check this week.

80 78 I think the dogs would be on a raccoon before it got through the window. I'm surprised they didn't notice a strange cat!
Posted by: April-dash my lace wigs! at January 22, 2022 04:16 PM (OX9vb)

That is surprising, but maybe they're just cat friendly. A strange kitteh coming in from the cold might be understandable to the others, if disconcerting to your cat.

82 Fun animal story:
There were 4 of us carpenters sharing a place down in St Thomas. One morning I was off and everyone else had left for work before I was out of bed. (This is a really nice pad were staying at) I head to the kitchen to make coffee and there is a huge iguana on the counter right beside the coffee maker. Bigger than any I had seen and there are plenty on the islands. So, being so big I assumed the non coffee drinking guys were playing a joke and it was fake. They remain so still it's amazing. Anyway, he was not a fake and it was not a joke. I about pulled a Brandon when I reached for the coffee pot and he skittered off the counter and into another room. Someone didn't click the magnetic screen on the back patio.

83 Wolfus most of our old dogs at Shep's get CBD oil. We put it in their food. I can't imagine why a cat wouldn't be able to take it.

84 Friend of wife gave her an apple flavored salt lick block for the deer. I made her give it away. Got too many now tearing up the yard and eating the plantings.
Posted by: olddog

i'll try the salt lick, cannot stand my neighbors anyway.

I'd contact a vet for dosing. In my area we have at least one very holistic practice that helps in these matters.

90 When we bought our house it had a pet door.
Upon the first week we moved in, we ordered a pizza, ate half, left the other half on the table.
Went out to a movie.
When we came back, the pizza was all over the house, along with little red raccoon footprints.

98 90. Raccoons are well known for this. We didn't even know they were in the neighborhood until that incident. The person who removed the raccoon (and freed it) told Ruth she was lucky that the animal hadn't given birth yet, as then it would get to stay(!) until the babies could be safely transported.

Posted by: G'rump928(c) at January 22, 2022 04:41 PM (yQpMk)

103 The other typical ending for the joke is:

105 Several years ago my neighbor's libtard idiot sister paid him a visit with her unruly mutt. It got loose, ended up at our place and after chasing the cats around, shitting in the yard it planted itself on our front porch to bark and snarl at us.

The libtard sister tried to coax it back to their place but ended up chasing it around the yard. This went on for about half an hour. Things got heated. Threats were made before the neighbor showed up and gave his sister a pretty good dressing down for being stupid. He told me it'd be ok if I popped her, but not the dog.

Great! I got a new feral showed up about 6 months ago. I've been feeding him but he still won't let me get near enough to pet him. Been giving him whipped cream as a treat and he's putting on weight, when he first showed up he was skinny and limping. He waits under my truck same time each day now to get his dinner.

He still gives me the stink eye when I talk to him but sooner or later I hope he comes around.

He'll come around. My daughter sits in a chair while the feral eats. Every few days she moves the chair closer to the bowl. Eventually some of them will actually rub on her legs before eating. Acceptance.
