Party Like It's 1979 Video of the Day Not my favourite Kate Bush song, but 1979 will be 1979. Since I brought it up, this is my favourite Kate Bush song, though there are certainly other contenders. Disclaimer: Except occasionally when it's 1980. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

What is with the rise -- at least in my experience -- of videos "explaining" the ending of movies? Are you so lacking in cognitive skills and the ability to piece together plot elements that you hadn't figured it out by the time you got back to your vehicle in order to drive home? My specific trigger in this instance was an explanation for the ending of "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" -- oh, come on now! Memories of childhood Christmas Eves tend to revolve around what day of the week it fell on and thus which of my favorite TV shows had an episode that night, Christmas themed or not. And on what presents I received that year. I can recall vividly Christmas Eves from the time I was about 6 or 7 until I was 13. Then, it's almost like an amnesia: I know I was there, I know I participated, but I cannot recall what I received or much about them.
Oh, I remember I gave Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 a bicycle, which she hardly used, for Christmas '82; and that it was bitterly cold for here, about 13 degrees, in '83. We'd just been married, and the heat in our rented house was out. We huddled under the bedclothes and, uh, generated our own heat. (Together we could have powered a small South American country.) And I need to zip by Dollar Tree for a couple of small items. I may need more wrapping paper too. No way I'm going to Walmart or any mall today. The open-plan shopping center with the Petco and World Market that we visited yesterday am was crowded enough, and that's a small place.
Tonight, as we often do, we could drive around and look at the Christmas lights on the houses near us, too. I promise myself that when I have a house, no matter how small, I will put up some lights outside and a small tree inside. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at December 24, 2021 06:29 AM (c6xtn) 121
Good morning all, and Merry Christmas! We are heading to the people's republic of Boston to see son, DIL, and grandkids. Thank you sweet baby Jesus for having mercy on us and coming to Earth to save us from our sins. Also thank you for the nice people here at the hotel who have breakfast all ready for us before we hit the road.

It's a superbly well-written song. I have odd memories of it because when it came out, I pictured the woman in it as looking like the future Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 (I'd known her for about 2 years before we got involved). And the hell of it is, in early '92 I sort of lived the song with her. Not Christmas Eve, and we didn't drink in my car or anywhere, but it was strangely similar. Good point. Kitty litter is easy to get and will get used by the kittehs come spring, if I don't get stuck. Posted by: fluffy at December 24, 2021 07:26 AM (UnQlg) 212
As for me, I was driving a little FWD Ford Escort (worst car I've ever had), so I had decent traction.

MSNBC Medical Analyst Dr. Vin Gupta Says the Unvaxxed Should be Denied Care in Hospitals
Socialized medicine always leads to denial of care based on the current political waves. Today it is the unvaxxed. Tomorrow the Republican voter. Then the mentally and physically challenged that cost more than the system con support. Look at the VA Homes and Assisted Living Homes in NY and NJ, placing sick people in with the weak. Make sure you get the right kind of cat liter. Some just turn to mush when they get wet. Which just makes a mess and doesn't do anything to help you get unstuck.

The same leftists who insisted healthcare was a right ten years ago are now insisting conservatives be denied healthcare.

Wanted Dead or Alive on H & I is showing their Christmas episode, with Jay North as a kid who hires Josh (Steve McQueen) to find Santa Claus. No doubt Have Gun -- Will Travel will have theirs, which is much less sentimental.

____________ Pfizer's new drug is just a less-effective protease inhibitor than ivermectin. Ivermectin is safer, more effective, and cheaper. France would be better off ordering ivermectin and skipping Pfizer's new rip-off of it. Posted by: TrivialPursuer--F*ck Joe Biden at December 24, 2021 07:35 AM (k4dH2) 224

The only thing about driving my RWD cars is they were MBs and a BMW, and so there was a certain indefinable pride to having such a car at all, let alone driving it. But my FWD Buick is as comfortable to drive, has more power, and will be cheaper to repair on simple things. I've had good luck with my GM cars, 2 Oldsmobiles and 3 Buicks.

The trick with FWD is to remember the front wheels are pulling the front of the car around and the rest of the car generally wants to follow. Your traction however is divided between cornering and accelerating and braking and there is only so much of that to go around.
Posted by: f'd at December 24, 2021 07:40 AM (Tnijr) 234
Rearwheel drive pickup trucks are the worst in snow and ice. Tubes of sand in the bed is the answer to better traction. I've had several PU's and be careful in the winter driving.
