Time's Person of The Year - Elon Musk. Tesla and SpaceX boss Elon Musk has been named Time's 2021 Person of the Year. The magazine also honors vaccine scientists who tackled COVID-19 as their heroes of the year, and Olympic and world champion gymnast Simone Biles was named athlete of the year. Suck it up Californians. Face diaper time unless you are an elected Democratic office holder. In a surprise move Monday, California state officials announced that the state is instituting a universal indoor mask mandate, effective Wednesday, December 15. The current mandate will run through January 15, 2022. “We will require universal masking in indoor settings statewide,” said state director of health and human services Dr. Mark Ghaly Ghaly, noting that the order will cover the 58% of tCalifornia’s population not currently under such a mandate. Whatever happened to diversity Hillary? But it was what he did, and how he abused the office and how he mistreated people. Starting, you know, with the Muslim ban, through the outrageous behavior in trying to overturn the election, and encouraging an attack on our Capitol. And sadly, the Republican Party has gone along with him. Honestly, they have hung their spines up on the wall as they walk into their offices. They have no conscience. They have no spine. And we are seeing the results of a party that has been taken over by a demagogue. It’s a time to decide whether we’re going to be a grownup country or not. NORTH POLE—Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer received praise for taking a stunning and brave stance against outdated binary gender stagnation by changing his name to Rolanda and subsequently dominating every field in the North Pole’s annual Female Reindeer Games. “Rolanda is a shining beacon for young, female reindeer in more ways than one,” stated the president of the North Pole Reindeer Games Committee, Bob Chairman. “She has shattered records in every event she has entered, which says so much about the physical potential of all female reindeer.” The solar industry. Would it stand alone without government subsidies? Californians will be finding out the hard way. The old bait and switch. California regulators are eyeing sharp reductions in subsidies for residential solar systems in what would be the first major reform to a program that helped jump-start the rooftop solar industry, according to Bloomberg. As part of a proposed series of changes issued on Monday by a judge at the California Public Utilities Commission, residential solar customers would receive a much lower credit for excess energy sent to the grid - with credits ranging from around 30 cents per killowatt-hour, to less than 10 cents depending on time of day. The proposal would also stick solar owners with nearly $500 per year in grid-connection fees. The proposed amendments will undoubtedly impact the business of bolting solar panels on roofs across the U.S., an industry valued at more than $13 billion a year. A deep cut to incentives would likely slow installations in the largest solar state and prompt other sunny jurisdictions to follow. The issue has divided solar firms, consumer groups, environmental advocates and utilities. New residential rooftop solar customers would get a four-year credit to help them transition to the new rates that would allow them to pay back the cost of a solar and energy storage system over 10 years... -Bloomberg Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) speculated that the White House kept President Joe Biden away from the 122nd annual Army-Navy Game on Saturday due to fear of a “Let’s Go, Brandon!” chant from the audience. The Army-Navy football game was hosted at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Breitbart News reported on Saturday that the White House broke away from presidential tradition in not having Biden appear at the game. The City of Chicago confirmed it will still pursue its lawsuit against Jussie Smollett, who was convicted last week on five felony charges stemming from a hate crime hoax in early 2019, in a bid to collect more than $100,000 in costs that were incurred by the Chicago Police Department. A jury found Smollett, who appeared in “Empire,” guilty on five of six charges during his hate crime hoax trial on Thursday, Dec. 9. After the guilty verdict was handed down, the City of Chicago confirmed to news outlets on Dec. 10 that it would seek to recoup its losses. No mention of a "Plumber's crack". Genius Award Winner. While “being intimate” with a friend inside a restaurant bathroom, a Florida Woman broke a sink off the wall, leading to her arrest for criminal mischief, according to police. Investigators say that Kathryn Trammel, 37, caused $500 in damages Tuesday during an afternoon encounter inside a bathroom at Irish 31, an eatery in Seminole. According to an arrest affidavit, Trammel and a friend were asked to leave the restaurant after staff discovered them in the bathroom. “The defendant and her friend then left the bathroom and sat at the bar,” a sheriff’s deputy noted. Trammel, cops allege, subsequently returned to the bathroom. It was during this second trip that the sink was damaged. After being read her rights, Trammel reportedly said that, “her friend and herself were being intimate in the bathroom and as a result, caused the sink to break.” Ebony Johnson works at a Dunkin' drive-thru in Cincinnati where Suzanne Burke is a regular customer. A couple of Antifa "journalists" in Portland are suing Andy Ngo for copyright violation in Federal court. Ngo takes Antifa videos off of Twitter, and retweets them (with attribution) while adding his own commentary. The plaintiffs make a big deal about the fact that they have blocked Ngo on Twitter, so he has to use alt-accounts to get the videos.
Well, it's up to the court to decide whether this is actually a copyright violation, but it's pretty funny seeing a couple of people who hate the government rely on the government's courts, and the government's laws, to protect their sacred property rights to their videos. However, it came out today that one of the plaintiffs did have a paying customer for her Portland riot videos. That customer is RT, AKA Russian Television, AKA the Russian government. The fact that she sold her videos to Putin is causing a certain amount of turmoil in Portland anarchist circles. Posted by: The ARC Of History! at December 13, 2021 10:26 PM (I2/tG) 126

Sierra Club et al don't even have problems with the bird choppers, aka as 'wind turbines', killing bald eagles and condors. They don't want their naive contributors reminded. Therefore the EPA doesn't make the wind farms report the deaths and pay fines, but the commies that control all those groups that are supposedly about animal welfare only care about making humans more miserable, not about improving conditions for any wild life.

221 Sierra Club et al don't even have problems with the bird choppers, aka as 'wind turbines', killing bald eagles and condors. They don't want their naive contributors reminded. Therefore the EPA doesn't make the wind farms report the deaths and pay fines, but the commies that control all those groups that are supposedly about animal welfare only care about making humans more miserable, not about improving conditions for any wild life.
Posted by: PaleRider Just like the Antifa person suing Ngo, it is grifting all the way down. Even the left's own groups become grift machines that ignore their original purpose and rely on large foreign contributions from nations that want US energy shut off. That is why they de facto support killing off birds. The Solar Concentration generator fried them in the air. Windmills chop them up including rare species. Neither are environmentally friendly when being produced or being disposed of. So Sierra Club is effective evil and anti environment. Just like public schools have promoted evil and ignorance in many cases. The military promotes hate against its own citizens and ignores how to win wars, and so on. My big critique of Musk is that he's all-in on climate change, but he seems to really believe it as opposed to be using it as a grift, so I can't hate him as much for that.
What's weird is that kind of goes against his recent pro-natal statements. Well, maybe not if he sincerely believes it's a threat to humanity, instead of humanity supposedly being a threat to earth. It's always hard to put him in a box. Other than that he's pretty based. Posted by: Dworkin Barimen - anarcho-tyranny? you're soaking in it! at December 13, 2021 10:57 PM (cSs/W) 257

What has happened is that venture capital financed by fed easy bux has taken over tech. The idea is to get rich by picking the next big thing like Google or Amazon. Texas Supreme Court is the highest court in the state in civil suits. Justices get elected in statewide election; terms are for 6 years. When someone resigns early, the governor appoints a replacement (who will eventually have to be elected to keep the seat). Texas is a strange beast. Our AG is not necessarily like that office in other states (far more limited portfolio and power). Why someone would want to go from the Texas Supreme Court to AG is beyond me. But both involve statewide elections.

How does TX Supreme Court work? Is that another "not what you think it is" like County Judge? Because State Supreme Court is pretty much a sinecure in most states. Meaning, the path is usually State AG to Supreme Court.
Posted by: Iron Mike Golf at December 13, 2021 11:11 PM (8C7+r) one fun fact is that Texas actually has Two "Supreme Courts" - the official Supreme Court only hears Civil Cases - lawsuits, etc. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is Supreme for all Criminal Cases. Judges on both courts have to run for election every 6 years. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 13, 2021 11:16 PM (evAgx) 339

Posted by: Iron Mike Golf The way that retailers get fantastic growth is by stiffing their vendors. The idea is that you get fabulous growth by selling an item today and paying your vendors for it in 90-120 days. Essentially, you are borrowing from the vendors to finance your business--in a mature market like books--Barnes and Noble, Borders, etc. had already killed the small booksellers by doing their own variation of that so big and small publishers were ready for a new player that turned out to be Amazon. Bezos though is now pissing off his big vendors and small ones by selling cheap Chinese clones for a lot of it that compete with existing brands. And selling knockoffs. The main innovation is that mass shipping innovations by UPS and Fedex and cleverly originally using the Post office for us taxpayer subsidized China to US shipping made the system work along with massive computing power. That allowed him enough profit and capital to build delivery services of his own eventually while cutting them out in major metro areas. His cloud networking also makes a pretty big chunk of Amazon earnings. Posted by: whig at December 13, 2021 11:18 PM (9hXN1) 347

Posted by: CppThis Yup. Scotty Kilmer is a bit of a lunatic on YT. He is a car mechanic. And he is pretty funny. Often he presents 20-30 minute reviews of something automotive. That are very well done. The other day he reviewed electric cars. One thing that was interesting. I guess in the 90s? Sometime. The government partnered with Ford, GM and Mercedes to make electric cars. They specifically excluded Honda and Toyota. Guess who made the first electric cars?* Honda(Insight?) and Toyota(Prius). Very minor point of his video. But interesting to me. *He actually has another long video explaining that Edison and Ford actually partnered to make electric cars? With hands in pockets. I've been out of uniform since '92 and I still cannot slouch or stand around with my hands in my damned pockets. If it's cold, under the arm pit. If it's not cold, parade rest, or if we're more than casual aquaintences, then maybe at ease.
Posted by: BifBewalski Navy basic taught me that, and to close my damn mouth. Best advice ever. Slack-jawed is not an intelligent look. It stuck, and now people think I'm smart. Posted by: Humpty Hump, Rickrolled by Jesus at December 13, 2021 10:29 PM (OssQ4) Believe it or not, little things like that (and posture) do make it possible to spot veterans. Here's another: I was watching the opening scene of Reservoir Dogs the other day, which is one of the kick ass openings of all time, but what stood out to me was that the dogs were all out of step. I don't know if it would even be possible for a group of veterans to walk that out of step if they tried. Posted by: Caesar North of the Rubicon at December 13, 2021 11:46 PM (BMmaB) 413

Re California mandating panels on houses: The really funny thing is that, as some have found out to their chagrin, the grid still needs to be up and functional, because the panels are not connected to the house's electric system, but rather to the grid as generators.

Having done some late-Fall hunting trips in the snow, can confirm that a heavy-duty canvas tent with a wood stove is a must. Posted by: Dworkin Barimen - anarcho-tyranny? you're soaking in it! at December 13, 2021 11:42 PM (cSs/W)
We had 12 man canvas tents at Camp Bullis, TX (a U.S. Army installation), for Air Base Ground Defense I & II training. Winter of 1976 was (for then) at or near record cold temps. The oil-fired stove worked wonders, except that the Army specified that they be shut down at lights out, for fire prevention reasons. Yep. Freezin' cold in the tent, most every morning. We started with a "fair" rotation on the roster for stove-starting in the morning, but that soon devolved to the least squared-away Airman in the tent. Didn't last though. He could, and did start the stove like a champ for a week, ten days or so. But, he'd constantly fall out on any kind of a march. And forget about a march humpin' a ruck. Poor kid was done in a quarter mile or so. They sectioned him out on an Administrative Discharge, soon after. But. Cold tent. Done my last of those, thankyouverymuch. Greg Abbott went from the Texas Supreme Court to Attorney General, and then to Governor. John Cornyn went from the Texas Supreme Court to Attorney General, and then to Senator. So it looks like the career path is from the Supreme Court to AG, not from AG to the Supreme Court. Eva Guzman is doing it the traditional way.

It will be a busy week for Her Majesty as well. Three days of all-breed shows, AKC National Owner-Handled Series finals on Friday and the AKC National Championship on Saturday. She'll have meetings to attend as the AKC Delegate for our parent breed club and she may have to serve as a ring steward on Sunday. We're just in it to try for the breed wins. These are shows for the big boys in town, so even if we get past the breed, group placements are very unlikely. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at December 14, 2021 01:06 AM (/U27+) 506

Posted by: Zettai at December 14, 2021 01:00 AM (pQPjX) Not as rare as you think. Clutch gets hot, heats the clutch shell, glue says fuck it. Fixed a lot of those over the years. You can epoxy the magnets back on, but they gotta go back exactly as they came out with the polarities right. A lot of time the magnets chip and crack, and then you're opening your ass for a new clutch drum, $3-400. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at December 14, 2021 01:09 AM (VwHCD) 508

Berserker. The timing chain adjustment block was a deep dive into the front cover of a Honda CX-500, too.
Trivia. The CX-500 was pretty much 1/3 of a Honda Formula One racing engine in the late 1970s era. Mine was a 1978 model, and they "cured" the chain adjustment block malf in the 1980 model. Final year for 'em was the 1983, bumped to a 650cc displacement, lowering highway revs just enough to enjoy. And then, no more. Think, water cooled Moto-Guzzi, in terms of general layout. But the vee-valley cam, tiny pushrod, forked follower, four-OHV valve engine had a 5,500 RPM redline, coming fully onto the cam at about 3,000 Rs. At which point, hang on. You're not steering it now, it's steering you. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at December 14, 2021 01:30 AM (QzJWU) 517
Shit. Memory fail.
CX-500 timing chain sliding block tensioner. Buried under the REAR cover, necessitating full engine removal from the bike. I did the removal, and put the engine in the trunk of the Pontiac Sunfire, and drove it the 1/2 mile to the dealer. Back then, I was had not the skills at the wrench that I have, now. CX-500 was a neat bike, but only the later Honda Silverwing gave it a long enough swingarm to cure it's ring/pinion "jacking" ass-lifting under power. Posted by: Zettai at December 14, 2021 01:29 AM (R9CQE) Maybe, usually you just do the internal clutch adjustment and primary chain adjustment when you do an oil change. You can't run the clutch adjustment too tight, or else you'll waste the throw out bearing, and its a small bearing to start with. It needs to have a small bit of play. Most guys fuck up and never do the internal adjustment, and always play around with just the cable adjustment itself, and thats not how you do it. The last downhill stretch of I70 east into Lakewood is hazardous. Traffic is almost always heavy. Drivers are nearing the end of long drives. The grade is very steep and long. Traffic stops or slows going into the Denver metro area. I've been hit by swerving cars trying not to go into the median. (She came accross three lanes to hit me in the drivers side door). A brake failure in a large truck due to not controlling his decent from the mountain was entirely his own fault. He caused the accident and the deaths through his own neglect. 110 years is a good start.

Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at December 14, 2021 01:36 AM (QzJWU) Well its not like the harley twin cam with the retarded chain driven balance shafts. When those tensioners go you have to remove the engine and then split the engine cases to get to them. The rubber mountain engines don't have those, but the solid mounted engines do. Somebody shit the bed on that design. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at December 14, 2021 01:48 AM (VwHCD) 525

Berserker. I'd love to watch you tear down any H-D engine of your choosing, and learn from your critique.
And right behind you, I'd tear down a CX-500 engine, and you'd laugh your ass off at mine. But you'd also be impressed. The CX 500/650 engines were some of the most impressive HP/RPM per engine pound and CC displacement of their time. 1/3 of a Formula One design has it's advantages, and it's deficits, too. Bike styiin' was cool, too. Instantly adaptable to Euro/Brit Cafe Racer resto mods, with not much more than stripping to minimums, and paint. Nearly the same with the Honda. Both are V-twins, but the Honda sits traverse, like a Guzzi. Both (except the HD twin cam) feature a central cam and pushrods. And there, the differences begin. Memory Fail II in the narrative. The CX-500 had a 7500 RPM redline. I forgot that. But it was fun when the engine woke up at 5kRs. IF you were already pointed where you wanted it to go, that is. You would absolutely love the 4 valve per cylinder drive via forked rockers off the single pushrod over single cam system, I think. Honda or HD, HD or Honda. At some point, the engineers have to find a mutual respect, even if designs differ.
