I could never be a Progressive. I don't think I could stand all of the shouting. The other day, one of the Twitter accounts I follow posted this:

One of my followers had signed me up for progressive caucus emails last year as a joke and I wanted to show you how they speak to their base:

And then she included a couple of screen shots of one of the e-mails she received.

I've given money to conservative organizations, some of which fund raise rather aggressively, and I've never seen anything like this.

The requests for money I've gotten were, in many case, quite annoying. They've begged and pleaded for money, made outlandish promises, even included little gifts, did a lot of guilt tripping and fear mongering ("if you don't send us piles of money, we're all going to die!"). Maybe fund-raising has changed over the past decade. Does everybody do it this way now? After reading that e-mail, I feel like I'm on the battered end of an abusive relationship. My meth-addicted boyfriend is shouting at me and threatening me with bodily harm and mayhem.

It's like I'm collapsed on the floor in a corner and the unhinged lunatic who wrote the e-mail is fried on meth, looming over me like an angry god, and shouting:

"WHAT'S THE %$*&@! MATTER WITH YOU?? I TOLD YOU WHAT TO DO, AND YOU *DIDN'T* DO IT!!! WE KEEP GOING OVER THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND YOU F*%#!^+# NEVER DO WHAT I F$@*&# TELL YOU TO DO!! YOU MISERABLE *%$#?@! FAILURE!! NOW YOU'LL PAY!! ONCE AGAIN, I'M GOING TO HAVE TO HURT YOU!! WHY DO YOU MAKE ME HURT YOU?? IT'S YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT, YOU #@!*&%!!"

Whew.

Second, does threatening your donor base actually work? I guess it must, in some fashion, because they're doing it. Anyone else here receive a conservative fund-raising email "commanding" you to do this or that? Someone on the Twitter thread pasted an example of texts he received from an organization called "WinRed", and they're pretty cringey, and he said he was getting 3 in a day, and something like that is going to make me *not* want to donate.

Perhaps all of the shouting and bullying is a sneak preview of what life will be like in the Happy Fun Camps.

It does if your base consists of wannabe dictators and a large number of weak people who want to be told what to do. That's why this approach plays so poorly with non-lefties. The GOP has tried it; they chose poorly, and haven't done it again.

I assume both political parties have at least one very well-oiled machine at their disposal: fundraising.

It is in their best interests, pretty much their only interest, to have that thing humming. So, with that assumption, I pile on another that they operate with incredible research about what tactics work best for which sub-groups of the population and that they tailor every message to maximize their donations.

If you would like to see something like that, I suggest going back in time to last year and donating the max to the two special GA senate campaigns and giving them your phone number.

It has slowed down the last month, but I was averaging over six texts a day. It got to the point that I had to set my phone up so that only known contacts go "beep" and any others are silent. And to do that I had to set each contact individually and that was still worth my time to stop the aggravation.

I'm sure that's true, but I doubt there are enough "thank you sir, may I have another" types in the conservative ranks to make it worth their while. That's probably not true of Kasich supporters and their ilk.

158 I'm on both Democrat and Republican political e-mail lists (years ago, I somehow got on a list for a major Oregon environmental organization, which then sold it to major Oregon Democratic politicians, which then sold it to the national D crazies).

Yeah, the D's are unhinged, but some of the R fundraising letters are almost as unhinged - "This is the third time we've contacted you! Why are you letting President Trump down?"

My favorites are the ones that state that President Trump is personally disappointed to see that my name isn't on the fundraising list.

But the D's fundraising e-mails are something else - they are either "crying happy tears of joy" over something, or they are on the brink of suicide. They do this at least daily.

It's amazing that anyone gives money in response to these appeals.

I'm seeing a lot of new-ish bloggers reach their saturation point and go on rants. But a lot of them have this notion that COVID started with the media freaking out and hyping it up, because quite frankly they weren't actually paying any fucking attention before this. (hence the late rants)

This means they're missing that it's even worse than they think - because they're not accounting for 2-3 months of the powers that be keeping a total lid on it, plus 2.5 months of the media insisting it didn't spread in humans, and then it wasn't leaving China, and then slinging accusations of racism in order to help it spread.

It didn't start with fear, it started with apathy and mockery. And it's not being driven by fear, either - the progs know exactly what they're doing here and most of their rank and file revel in it.

No, they don't. Neither party per se relies that much on small donations because of cost/benefits so those get the crappy mail order treatment and abusive phone calls/texts. So, the same people that mail out save the whales, stop this or that, etc. do the party small donor lists.

The velvet approach fundraising comes from the smoozing and glad handing big donors at fundraising dinners, etc. and like Vegas, the more you pay, the better the treatment. These donors expect that from other fundraisers for foundations, museums, arts, etc.

We had this problem, maybe 15 years ago. If they are chinese berries, they are huge, but flavorless due to poor soil they are grown in. The fertilizer used to make them huge does not help either. If they color them red (they were also pale and kid of sickening looking) you would not notice the difference until you bit into one.

Andrew Weismann was the radical leftist on the commission who was always pushing to issue a pure political hate document against Trump. Weissman has later said he was furious that Mueller apparently woke up at one point and said "hey man, we haven't found anything to support anything you're saying there!" So this hidden "report" is the version that Weismann wrote up and that Mueller himself looked at and said "that's just nuts."

They've always had it, it wasn't just "found". The fact that it's being released now shows how desperate the air - all it really proves is that the Mueller investigation was totally politicized from the start. (which we already knew)

Another reason to support friends, family, others you know who need help instead of donating to large charities. I donated to several after the big hurricane and floods in Houston, and I still get all that crap from random charities. Maybe some of them are good, but they seem to spend way too much sending out tote bags, pens, free Christmas cards, calendars to people who never donated to them.

Easiest way to do it is set up a PAC such as Horde PAC. The only issue is that the FEC and FedGov purposefully make it opaque so you pretty much have to have an experienced treasurer and election fundraising lawyer which don't come cheap along with the online infrastructure for processing donations. Cheaper donations via CC or some other Epay often outweigh the cost of actually running a donation site.

That is part of the party system that needs to be blown up. I prefer the subscription model of party membership that UK uses among others where only people that pay membership have a say in candidates.

The issue with campaign donation lists is that candidates sell that information (even the unsuccessful ones do) to each other and they also sell it (or are run by the same political firms) to cause fundraising groups.
