LOS ANGELES, CA — According to multiple reports, Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, contacted the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) via letter and requested it stop using “dummy” accounts on its platform to conduct surveillance on other users who the police may regard as criminal suspects. On Nov. 11, Meta’s Roy L. Austin Jr., Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, sent a three-page letter to Chief Michel R. Moore alleging his department was creating phony social media accounts and even impersonating legitimate users.

A federal judge in Missouri has blocked US President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for healthcare workers in 10 states, saying that it would need approval from Congress – which it does not have.
US District Court Judge Matthew Schelp issued a preliminary injunction on Monday, blocking the White House’s order that all workers employed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) had to be vaccinated by January 4, 2022 or face losing their jobs. “The nature and breadth of the CMS mandate requires clear authorization from Congress—and Congress has provided none,” Schelp said, adding the injunction is warranted by the “vast economic and political significance” of the mandate.

Members of the public should make their own independent judgement as to whether the U.S. Department of Justice is committed to a just result based upon all the facts.” On Nov. 12th, Bannon was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of contempt of Congress after failing to appear before the House select committee investigating the events of Jan. 6th. A new medical procedure could improve quality of life for millions of people after they undergo knee replacement surgery. The treatment offers arthritis patients long term pain relief and an alternative to highly addictive painkillers, say scientists. Arthritis or similar health conditions can make the joints, including knees and hips, extremely painful.
A growing number of patients are getting knee replacement surgery in the hope of regaining some mobility and quality of life. But between 15 and 30 percent of those who go under the knife continue to experience pain and stiffness. While some decide to go through surgery again, there is no guarantee this will solve the problem. Now, scientists in the United States have tested a new procedure which could offer them long-term relief at last. Assistant professor Felix Gonzalez at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta said, “A lot of patients don’t achieve any resolution of pain. “It’s a big problem, and up till now, there weren’t any other options.”
The procedure, dubbed cooled radio frequency ablation (C-RFA), involves using a large needle to target specific nerve locations around the knee while the patient is under general anaesthetic.
A probe is then guided to the location before emitting a low voltage current—or radio frequency to the deep sensory nerves around the knee. Dr Gonzalez said, “With a larger propagating heat wave, you can account for the differences in nerve anatomy from patient to patient because of a larger treatment zone. “Treating a larger zone increases the effectiveness of the procedure.” The researchers surveyed 21 patients who had complete knee replacement surgery and were suffering from persistent chronic pain.

I always figured it was because of the same problem interstate overpasses have - ice and snow is going to build up faster and thicker on an uncovered bridge than anywhere else.

I understand the cruelty of suicide, but the government shouldn't penalize the many for the psychiatric illness of the few.
Imagine if they put up a 10' barrier along the beach near your home, just to prevent the few profoundly disturbed people each year from attempting suicide.

I recently discussed with someone close how the neighborhood I grew up in (and still live in) is full of bad juju. My sister was weeding our garden once and the neighbor's wife came running out of the house screaming "He's going to kill me!" The husband came running out with a gun and pulled the trigger. It backfired and killed him. Seriously bad juju for a young girl to watch. Things got worse as you went up the block.

I vaguely remember when one NYC college student was killed by a brick that came off the side of a Manhattan building back in the 90s (?). What was the response? Mandate scaffolding for any building at risk of falling debris. What was the result? Blighted walkways all though the city. As far as I know, those scaffolds are still there. Yuck.

I've ordered their "America's" sampler, and it was all very good. Probably the best coffee I've ever tasted. Drinking black or with a bit of cream. I enjoyed the different kinds. It was expensive though. About 3x the cost of the most expensive store brand. He's out of Florida and advertises on a few conservative sites. I'm probably going to splurge again and get more for during Christmas and through winter early spring.

He shot his baby boy, his daughter, then went to his wife, told he this was all her fault and hoped she would live with the guilt forever before blowing his brains out.

Depression fucks with the mind. Some believe not only are they getting rid of their pain, but that they are removing the pain of their existence from others. Clinical depression is a nasty, nasty trip that if you've never been on you just can't understand, and even if you have you don't necessarily know what someone else is feeling.

Personally, I'm going through the hardest time imaginable. I recently went a couple days without eating anything. My wife was worried, saying I needed to eat something, etc...
She didn't understand that it wasn't stress or depression that was keeping me from eating. It was a dry-run.

Or, of course, French Toast. By the way, one day last week my wife left me some beaten eggs with S&P in them, and told me that I can make French Toast with the batter. I did, even though I never thought I would dip bread in eggs that had pepper in them. Thought - very briefly - about eating them without syrup, then had second thoughts about that, and poured the maple stuff on. Tasted great, even though 'salt and pepper'.
What went through my mind as I was eating it? "Come on, D. Skip the syrup next time and eat them as CBD meant for them to be eaten."

Joe Pesci made a really great little 40's crime film called Public Eye about a crime scene photographer who gets involved in a mystery. Its a little sad but he does a terrific job. I think he directed it too.

I just saw the movie a month or so ago.
What bothered me was that the character stayed even though she obviously felt she was being held hostage by her children and husband.
Requesting that her ashes be with "him" because she had given her years to "them" almost made me puke.

Imagine if you will though it really happened. A teenage girl sits down on a bench that is on a bridge that crosses a small stream. It is winter time so before 6pm it is quite dark and the bridge is invisible just 50ft away.
Why do I say 6pm? You see a pair of teens crossed that bridge before then and discovered the young girl had shot and killed herself.
Then everyone waiting inside the church for services to start found out what happened on their doorstep.

Why guys tend to use guns for their suicide in greater proportion than women, but certainly much messier. I had a coworker whose tenant blew his brains out. The coworker told me he was cursing the guy with every scrub of brains he removed from the wall.

Yeah, Pooky's doctor had to gently remind him of what's at stake last week. She told him that she wants him to lose the weight in a *healthy* way, not cutting off his stomach fat with a kitchen knife and trying to cauterize the wound with heated-up pans. (That was a super-fun emergency Mental Health visit after I thwarted that particular plan.) Sometimes I think Pookette and I are the only anchors keeping him to this mortal plane.

Suicide is usually the result of very deep, painful depression. It's looking for an escape from the pain, and it's not rational.

5th generation got simplified for people who thought things were too hard. Early pathfinder went the other way and maybe too complicated. Pathfinder 2ed got simplified too. There was a case here years ago where a dude won a very large settlement against a popular nightclub after the bouncers put his head through the windshield of a car.
He never saw a penny, because it was all taken from him in lawsuits where he'd hurt other people. Seems that Mr. Innocent Victim had a long history of getting into physical altercations, which made me think that the bouncers might well have been justified in rebounding his dome off the glass a time or two.

The odd thing is a traditional story is remarkable these days. Days Gone is not a fantastic game (plodding, very stretched out in places as far as story) but I realized after I finished it that it was an old fashioned, hero comes good in the end type of story. It was refreshing and pleasing for that alone.

The last movie Monroe was in was "The Misfits", was also the last movie for Clark Gable. Clark actually befriended Marilyn during the filming, and she appreciated that he was actually trying to be kind to her and not on the make. If Clark had lived (he was dying of cancer), maybe Marilyn might have made it through.

There was a case where a dude who worked for a medical school went into Manhattan to pick up a box of human heads for the school.
He left the box in his car while he attended to another errand, and sure enough, someone broke in and stole it.
They found the box sitting on the sidewalk a few blocks away.

The Belt Parkway thing was about class, not race, I just brought it up in the generally idiotic context of the vapid twink SecTrans' stupid remarks, the referenced (of course) race.
Didn't think it was a federal project. But I don't know anything about that road (other than it's not fun in dense traffic), and the bridges are very low.

If that wasn't tragic enough, the story is that the family found a note that she missed her grandparents so much and just wanted to be with them. She wasn't so much killing herself as much as she was trying to see her grandparents again.

The character gave her years to her family even though she regretted that decision all along, obviously, by disclosing / subjecting her children to it after she was dead and she could no longer be held accountable.

There is some rentals down by the river where a tenant was doing coke with a glass straw while pacing back and forth (as one does) and he tripped and shoved the straw into his brain and bled out.
The owner replaced the carpet but a later tenant discovered they didn't replace the pad some how.
You may need to replace the sub flooring because of possible smell in the future. Killz probably won't work.

Well, water pump bearing is getting noisy, so it has to be changed.
And the old hoses are very old, might be OEM for the engine. Getting soft, and showing cracks. Car ran fine today; got it up to 65 on the 202 freeway, no problems. But I backed off to about 60.

Major no no using cap and ball revolvers, use dead soft lead (pure), not alloys. Should be able to make a thumbnail print into pure lead and not for alloys. Using harder cast bullets can create just a bit too much pressure and it will fail to obdurate properly to seal off the chamber risking chain fire.

Lard in place of a wad will keep the fouling soft, letting you shoot longer without cleaning. You should, after a couple cylinders full slip the cylinder out and clean the arbor. Clearance is tight here and subject to fouling. I found that carb cleaner from a spray can works like a charm.

Lard in place of a wad will keep the fouling soft, letting you shoot longer without cleaning. You should, after a couple cylinders full slip the cylinder out and clean the arbor. Clearance is tight here and subject to fouling. I found that carb cleaner from a spray can works like a charm.

Yeah, that was my understanding with the 454. Seems to me it would be difficult to place the caps on the nipples without having the cylinder out of the frame, as there is no gate.

My Dad's cousin's husband committed sideways in the car /garage shortly after his wife died, she had poor health for a long time. They had the funeral quickly and we only found out in the newspaper. My aunt filled us in on it months later. I was close to their daughter for a while after that (same age ) but she never mentioned it.
I was up on pipeline construction on Hwy 11 Ont west of Geraldton and a guy walked in front of a semi , I had just gone that way 5 minutes ago just missed, heard on the company radio net about it, the guy who came up on it had had a suicide or two in his family, this guy apparently left a note in his vehicle.
Just got the new water pump back in the dodge caravan
now got to reassemble the timing belt covers, the motor mounts, the alternator mounts and flush the system and hope it didn't wreck something when it started to overheat.

Which goes to why the .38 Special and .357 magnum bo.357 diameter bullet. Back in the day, the .38 S&W had a "heel-based" bullet, like a .22 LR. The bullet had TWO diameters. The smaller "heel" went into the case until a hard-shoulder was encountered. The visible part of the bullet was the same diameter as the outer-dimension of the case. The "Heel" was of .357 diameter, and the visible bullet section was of .38 inch measurement. Same as the outside dimension of the case.
A Colt Navy .36, carries the same .357 bore as the .38 Special/.357 Magnum. And a .22 LR's larger diameter is .223 in., same as in an AR-15. Which is why .22 adapters for an AR-15 can be made to work.

The Kaboom diary was literature. I am the same in some ways Zettai. I mostly read non fiction, it is probably 90 percent to 10 percent. But fiction and and novels do influence the real world, at least they used to. It is good to keep up with important works because they actually had an impact on the real world.

Herman Wouk, Winds of War. Historical Novel. But I think it'll add great storytelling to the foundation of your historical edifice. And the rest of the Wouk WWII sagas, besides.
There is a place for the Historical Novel. They serve to add color and texture to a palate mostly comprised of greyscale and monotone. Case in point. W.E.B. Griffin's tales of the U.S. Marines in the Banana Wars bring alive the scant histories extant in the actual literature. The histories ARE there, but are few, lacking context, texture and flavor.
Try Winds of War, and I think you'll not be disappointed.

I hope that my brief excursions into the unwashed masses will give both me & hubby a slight, immune-enhancing exposure. Not enough to get sick, but enough to build antibodies.
He is near 70, has liver and kidney issues. I'm not ready to lose him! But I understand his days are numbered.

Well I'm mostly blue collar, been in lowes or home depot almost every day, or every other day while working on the house since April. No mask. Been around other crowds at car cruise nights where there were definitely people who went through covid. No problem. I'm one of those people who just never get sick, never had the flu, don't have allergies, no winter colds, etc. I have the immunity system from hell, and I heal fast. People say, oh stay away I have a cold. I say so what, I'm not gonna get it. Its probably that attitude is why I don't get sick. My body probably gets pelted every day with shit and is so used to it that it don't even matter.

I had scarlet fever as a baby, but that's the only thing. I never had chicken pox, or measels. I don't even get headaches. I must be a frigging alien.

We both had chicken pox and regular measles.
I had mumps on one side only. And tonsilitis almost constantly until removed when I was 8 or 9... ahhhh, no more freeeking sore throat or penicillin shots!
No idea what ailments affected the younger siblings-- they were only occasionally sick, iirc.
