ONT Without Representation Is Tyranny!

Hello, Horde. I'm tired. It's open enrollment time, and that means lots of work for me. How are all y'all doing? Anyone care for a cup of coffee?

An Archaeological Dig Reignites the Debate Over the Old Testament’s Historical Accuracy

Interesting article about an archaeological dig at what may very well be the legendary King Solomon's Mines. There's a good bit about the two schools of thought in biblical archaeology. What I find interesting about biblical archaeology is not the lack of archaeological confirmation of any given bible story, but the fact that there's never been any discoveries that disprove history as recounted in the bible. If it was all just mythology, you'd think there there would be some glaring contradictions with discovered reality. This article talks about an interesting concept, that many of the societies in the bible may be “archaeologically invisible”. In other words, there existed societies of high culture and accomplishment, but being nomadic in nature they didn't leave behind any artifacts that have withstood the ravages of time.

What Ben-Yosef has produced isn’t an argument for or against the historical accuracy of the Bible but a critique of his own profession. Archaeology, he argues, has overstated its authority. Entire kingdoms could exist under our noses, and archaeologists would never find a trace. Timna is an anomaly that throws into relief the limits of what we can know. The treasure of the ancient mines, it turns out, is humility.

Fascinating stuff.

For The People

Lawmaker Introduces Bill to Force Employer to Pay as Much as $1 Million Per Vaccine Injury If It Enforces Biden’s Mandate

A state lawmaker in Oklahoma is bringing forth a bill to fine employers as much as $1 million per vaccine injury if they enforce Biden’s unlawful federal vaccine mandate.
Oklahoma’s Senate Bill 1106, the “Citizen Health Mandate Protection Act,” was submitted on Friday by State Sen. Rob Standridge. It is aimed at both public and private entities and individuals that mandate vaccines or other medical treatments as a condition of employment.
Employers who force medical treatments onto unwilling employees could be liable for $1 million in punitive damages if injured by that treatment, including forced Covid vaccinations.

This may have been overtaken by events. Since the Fifth Circuit ruled against OSHA, don't companies lose their immunity to vaccine related lawsuits if they mandate vaccination? Good for him, anyway.

Now, factcheck.org says that what this doctor is saying has been proven wrong, but they appear to be talking about claims made in the full clip which can be found here. I have not had time to watch the longer interview, but nothing in their article seems to pertain to the section of the interview embedded above. In any event, if factcheck told me that grass was green I'd need to see independent confirmation.

Here, the British PK team is enchanted by Polish fans during the humiliation ritual

During the Europa League match in Warsaw between Legia Warsaw and British Leicester City on Thursday, the Polish fans rolled out a giant banner with the Polish strongman champion Mariusz Pudzianowski and the text “Kneel before His Majesty” just when it was time for the obligatory humiliation ritual there Western European teams are expected to kneel before Black Lives Matter.
The Polish fans, who knew of the British ‘constant kneeling in the face of the American violence, had prepared a banner that could be rolled out in a flash.

Heehee. Brilliant

They Can Never Take Away Our Freedom

Oxi Day and “Freedom or Death.” Lest we forget

In the weeks before Oct. 28, 1940, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini had gathered his massive war machine on the Greek border with Albania. Mussolini had heavy armor, artillery and tanks. He had thousands of fighter planes and hundreds of thousands of soldiers, well fed and well equipped.

The Greeks were poor. They had none of that. They were outnumbered by 10 to 1. There was no Greek war machine, and no Greek Air Force, just a handful old WWI fighters from which pilots could toss hand grenades out as bombs, but nothing more.

It was then that Mussolini delivered his ultimatum to Greece:

Capitulate and allow the Italian occupation to proceed, and in exchange he would not destroy the country nor slaughter its people.

All the Greeks had to do was kneel to Mussolini in and they would live.

Other nations had capitulated. And now it was Greece’s turn to kneel. The deadline for the ultimatum was set at October 28, 1940. At about 3 a.m. the Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas gave his answer to the Italian ambassador:

“Oxi.”

No.

Monty Python Comedian John Cleese Cancels Himself "Before Someone Else Does"

Seems the special snowflakes at Cambridge University got art critic Andrew Graham-Dixon canceled, for doing an impersonation of Adolf Hitler. Hearing this, Cleese canceled his own scheduled appearance at the university because he had done the same in his Monty Python days.

Problematic

Here's what you should know about babywearing and cultural appropriation

Human beings have been carrying their infants in various types of slings from time immemorial, across the globe. Here's why that's not allowed when westerners do it. It's all such bullshit. I used to carry baby Little in a Baby Bjorn all the time (when I culturally appropriate, it's from the Swedes). In fact, it was only the fact that I was wearing a baby that kept me from getting into a fistfight at Ground Zero when Little was about six weeks old. It keeps your hands free while securing the baby safely. “Cultural appropriation”? What garbage. Know what the proper term for adopting successful strategies from other cultures is? “Human progress”.

45 I keep remembering a game done by Sid Meier of Civilization fame, Alpha Centauri. Amazing game for it's time. Pretty much as good as those style of games ever got as far as game play and uniqueness of factions.

The game is set to kind of bookend Civilization on, uh, Alpha Centauri. One of the factions is a religious one. Sister Myriam Godwinson. For one of the secret projects/wonders in the game, Self Aware Colony, the movie is set in what is obviously a dystopian police state. She keeps repeating 'We must dissent.'

That keeps popping up in my mind lately for some reason.

60 World War 2 odds and ends...

I've seen it suggested that Hitler was ready to ignore Mussolini's Greek fiasco, right up until the British landed troops in Greece. Then it suddenly had the potential to become a serious threat, and Hitler felt that he had to snuff out Greek resistance immediately before the British could expand out of Greece and threaten Eastern Europe. I've also heard it said that the Greeks specifically asked the British not to send troops, but the British disregarded the Greek request.

True? False? I haven't researched it, so I don't know. But I throw it out there.

On another note, as I mentioned a few days ago, I've been listening to the audiobook of 'Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailers'. Apparently when he wrote the book, the author was unaware of what had happened to the HMS Glorious. That's a bit odd because there are two reasons why the HMS Glorious is historically significant. The first is that she was the first aircraft carrier sunk by enemy gunfire. The second is that she was the recipient of one of two possible contenders for "longest cannon shot that successfully hit its target" by the German battleship Scharnhorst at 26,000 yards.

83 So, is the absolute refusal to back down on the "Everybody Must Get Vaxxed" song because a) money money money b)there's something in there related to the Evil Elite Cabal's dream of many many less people c) they are attempting to drive everyone who won't knuckle under out of any part of society they can control d) they are arrogant idiots who only have the skill of bureaucratic backstabbing and don't even notice that they have cleverly engineered things in less than a year to the point that 65-70% of the country hates them and they are still doubling down on the tactics. This is all crazy making to the logical. Like if Fidel had tried to win the masses over in 1959 by openly buying himself a mansion and his kid a yacht while cutting their food supply.

85 A state lawmaker in Oklahoma is bringing forth a bill to fine employers as much as $1 million per vaccine injury if they enforce Biden's unlawful federal vaccine mandate.
Oklahoma's Senate Bill 1106, the "Citizen Health Mandate Protection Act," was submitted on Friday by State Sen.

125 What I just posted before the previous thread closed:

We're facing challenging times to protect even the right to speak the truth, and it's spilling over to every imaginable area (even "non-political" sites).

I've been banned from TWO guitar forums. Yes, *guitar* forums where people gather to discuss guitars, guitar pickups, guitar pedals, guitar amps, etc. My sins?

I received a 2 week ban for explaining "supply and demand" (Economics 101) in a thread discussing rising prices for new & used guitars. When I received my ban, I private messaged a moderator who showed up at ANOTHER SITE & pointed out how silly that action was. We didn't hit it off and he made my ban on the ORIGINAL site "permanent".

On the 2nd site, I was given a 6-MONTH ban for responding to a thread about Springsteen appearing on Colbert's show. Some asked (innocently enough) what could have been wrong with that appearance (they seemed genuinely not to understand Springsteen and Colbert's politics). I pointed out that Springsteen basically said all of us white people secretly hated Clarence Clemons & would have called him the n-word if we had seen him in real life. My post was deemed "racially charged".

127 Mussolini was a big reason why Germany lost.

Germany lost because Hitler believed his own press. There was absolutely no need to rush into invading Russia. After the French and Britsh basically screwed up the start of the war (they should have went right in to Germany while nearly the whole Wehrmacht was tied up in Poland) and Hitler got France, Hitler should have just sat there. British couldn't have done anything by itself, and the Soviets couldn't have invaded without the U.S. feeding them and giving them materials and transport. Nazis would probably STILL be sitting on Europe.

128 In short, those who aren't "conservative" have taken over even non-political sites and put in 2 sets of rules.

Posters can claim that the riots are fine, that liberal guests have "rights", and that we all have to be considerate. But the moment someone attempts to politely rebut their positions, conservative posts are deemed "out of bounds" and those providing them are ushered out of the conversation.

At my old employer we were subjected to hours of presentations about how "riots are the language of the unheard" and that it was time for people that looked like me to sit down and shut up.

271 And about non-political web forums, the axiom that anything that isn't explicitly right-wing eventually becomes left-wing because lefties never stop applies in spades.

And on top of that anyone that takes it upon themselves to be a moderator of some forum discussing something completely unimportant to the survival of the human race is probably a bored, small person who will wield their meager power over you for any perceived slight to their tiny, stupid fiefdom.

Thanks, Pug.

I recently bought a bottle of Proper 12 - because my son wanted the bottle. He's a UFC fan and likes Connor McGregor. That whiskey was not enjoyable.

I like higher proof whiskey (at least 90 proof, usually higher) with depth of flavor from aging. Haven't found an Irish whiskey that fits those criteria. Not sure if one exists.

You win, I had to do a search on her name to remember what the game was called.

And yeah, sequels that exist to make you play an arena shooter without a story are dumb and bad and they need to stop doing that.

Under $30 - Buffalo Trace (if you can find it), Makers, Jim Beam Bonded (100 proof). Under $40 - Knob Creek!!! Several more in the $50 area. So I see no need to pay more.

Want some rye choices too?

Well, I think part of the problem is that FEAR came out before either of those games. FEAR's big things were the creepy atmosphere, and the AI of the enemies. Generally, up until FEAR, mook AI generally consisted of "charge at the player while firing". FEAR's mooks would actively try and do different things, such as flank you, although they still became predictable as you got used to them.

Far Cry and Doom (I'm guessing that you're talking about the first Doom reboot) came a little later, and expanded what FEAR had done. So you're comparing FEAR with the next generation of games. Even so, imo, Doom relied far too much on jump scares.

Lol! I never really bonded with a Les Paul. My guitar heroes growing up were Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore, and Blackmore just had this "coolness" factor that Page couldn't top. My first guitar was a 2-knob Squier Strat and it didn't hurt that Dire Straits was at their peak around about that time.

I have 4 really nice Strats at the moment. 3 are legitimate Fender products, and the 4th is an SX Strat copy that still had the plastic on it when I bought it used. I put Fender MIA pots/caps/switch in it, and then added Fender Tex Mex pickups in it. All together I have less than $300 in that one and I'll never sell it--it would put the run of the mill Fender MIM Strats to shame.

So I thought I was taking a load out today. Tomorrow. S'cool.

So on a whim I watched Wreck It Ralph. Picked it up cheap at Walmart as part of their stupidly early Black Friday sales along with a few other (mostly) animated movies including Ralph Breaks The Internet.

Meh.

It's a lovely ode to games and gamers but holy shit is this movie just...empty. It's bright and sugary (almost literally) and pretty much devoid of any real depth. It doesn't even have songs. Frozen was downright immoral but at least it had freakin' songs. But it's like so much animation out there. The hell with depth, just throw in a shit ton of pop culture references. It'll be fine.

So disappointing. I saw it in the theater and remember enjoying it. Not so much anymore.

I did. You didn't miss much.

IIRC, one of the things that caused me to quit playing very quickly was when I realized that if a character stood in an open doorway, the door would eventually close and squish them, killing them instantly. And your two NPC followers who needed to stay alive (or the game would immediately end) weren't smart enough to not stand in an open doorway.

526 Lol!

Posted by: Crusader at November 18, 2021 11:32 PM (Cjcf6

Took me a long time to bond with a les paul. I played V's for years, no cutaway to deal with, and the les paul felt confining in the cutaway. I used to call les pauls old man guitars, then I eventually bought one in the 90's. I think I have 5 or 6 now. Not as effortless as the V, but I can manage. They do sound great though.

They ran out of time and money. Square's priorities were elsewhere at the time, and an odd mecha CRPG with Gnostic plot elements wasn't something that they were going to throw cash at "just because". Only Final Fantasy got that treatment.

Strats I went a little crazy with. No clue why, I don't use them much, but I picked up a highway 1 strat and it just felt really cool, and it was frigging cheap, so over the years I think I grabbed 5 or 6 more and painted them the custom colors, like dakota red, fiesta red, lake placid blue, etc. I only really use it for the very few pink floyd songs I know when I step out of my normal genre. Then I picked up a real nice american strat standard, and grabbed some of those. Then I got a few with humbuckers and hot rails for the iron maiden thing. Next thing I know I'm up to my eyebrows in the damn things. I'm guitarded. lol

Lol--I respect that! I don't *need* 4 Strats--I play only at home and sometimes with friends. But I can afford it when I want something. Each of my Strats has a thick neck which I find easier to get around on, and either the specs were perfect when I bought them or I knew they could be made perfect for a reasonable cost.

I'm particular about what I buy. I love the *sound* of a Clapton signature Strat, but I prefer bigger frets and just don't want to compromise in that regard. I'm thinking an Eric Johnson signature Strat might be my next purchase.

595 I've had 2 guitars. My first, which I bought at Guitar Center in S.D. in 1985, is a shiny, black Vox. It's heavy AF (l chipped it and it looks like redwood), but the frets are perfect for my short fingers. Dual humbuckers and great tone too. I have no idea what the nomenclature after "Vox" is. The other is a Brian Moore iGuitar with a built-in 13-pin guitar synth output with a 3-way toggle: guitar/mix/synth. Plays well, though not as small hand-friendly as my Vox. I use the synth in lieu of pedals to mix in pad and string sounds to the guitar sound. I play rhythm and like a thick sound so it works really well.

I don't want to contradict what anyone else says, and Elijah Craig is great bourbon, but Evan Williams Single Barrels for the last few years have received rave reviews and I really have enjoyed them. Not a flashy name, but they really are high quality.

That's really sad, in a precious way. Back in 2019 when Kitty was still alive, despite having only 3 legs, weighing next to nothing, arthritis, kidney disease, a tumor on her liver, pancreatitis, and a few other things, she loved being with her mama (my ex) and being held. It was the sweetest, tenderest thing I ever saw. It truly was like a mother-daughter relationship where the young daughter has a terminal disease but hangs on from love. I feel blessed to have been there and to have been able to support what was my family in its most vulnerable hour. I empathize with you, Mike.

729 I was at the 1986 Heavy Metal Parking Lot show. Dokken opened for Priest. Why, I don't know. I'd have paid more not to have Dokken there. Mid-80's, after Halford dropped the disco metal attitude -- Heading Out to the Highway is a great song but he's just utterly lame in that video, see also Breaking the Law -- and just went full metal attitude (see US Festival), *nobody* came close to how dominant and charismatic a front man he was. The really sad thing now (besides Richie Faulkner nearly dying on stage) is that if they could find a way to do it, KK and Faulkner would be a great pair - Faulk playing Tipton's stuff. I guess there's too much bad blood to fix it now. Sucks.

If it was all just mythology, you'd think there there would be some glaring contradictions with discovered reality."

Additional fun rabbit hole to do down: Gunnar Heinsohn has been arguing for years that ~700 years in the first millenium have been pulled out of a multitude of peoples' asses. It sounds batshit at first glance but it's rather compelling when you consider the arguments and evidence.

yup, gotta agree with all that. I was in a priest cover band for a bit, we probably did 20 songs. At that time I never really knew who did the leads I was learning, and since none of it was actually hard I really couldn't tell who was better. 1981 was POE. It has *2* great songs on it and everything else is lame, at best. Yeah, Killers was Paul D'Anno. I really can't get into D'Anno Maiden - too punk. If I'm going to listen to punk, I want real punk. When Bruce took over, yeah, Maiden really took off. Number of the Beast through 7th Son is a superb run of albums. Priest experimented a lot, and they're my favorite metal band, but they really put out a lot of filler.

752 Oh, also, see if you can get a script for buprenorphine. In humans, under the trade name Suboxone, it's given to opiate addicts because it doesn't get them high and it binds to opioid receptors better than any other opiate, but in cats it is a good pain reliever. It can be administered orally as a liquid.

753 What this doctor is saying seems to be something like what happens with steroids. When you take steroids you body sees the artificial testosterone and thinks "cool, no need for me to make this any more" then when you stop taking the steroids your body no longer can produce your own testosterone. Likewise it seems like your body sees these artificial antibodies (unlike traditional vaccines that still allow your body to produce the antibody) and thinks "well fuck it, no need to expend energy making these if ill get them for free" and so it stops making them, then once the covid shot wears off in a few months, your body is left without all the important cells that fight viruses.

There was also an article before summer about how the covid shot was causing a high number of, let's call them anti-antibodies" that make ther infection worse, and they were outliving the protection if the shot (where as normally the amount, and the lifespan of such things is far less than the protection from the shot)

755 Liberals believe everything in existence today came from cultures and countries that up until this day can't even produce a dinner plate.

One of these cultural appropriation fights i live is when lefties will shit a brick over a white person with dreadlocks, despite dreadlocks dating back to ancient Greece, but you know since some Jamaicans started wearing them in like 1960 they must have invented them.

Honestly though i think we should only allow people to partake in what their culture invented, because lectures will have to live with the fact they caused most minorities (outside of asians and middle easterners) to be left with absolutely nothing.

757 Poland and a few eastern European countries are some of the only people left in the world fighting for freedom and a normal society, so it's no surprise how Biden, and Obama before him, will do anything to strength Russia and help them try to rebuild the Soviet union.

760 One thirty am. Just viewed the emerging eclipse through the Vortex Razor spotting scope.

Pity, I have to now retire, like it or not. I will miss the blood red moon, but the zero seven thirty alarm bears no mercy.

In the 'scope though, is God's Creation, and if you don't go out (your local weather permitting) to view, well, it's your loss. My view was clear enough to wonder if I might find various Apollo landing sites in the eyepiece.

Even to the naked eye, this is a sight. Go. Step out and behold God's Creation. You can warm up inside, with bourbon or such.

Hi JT! I can't see the eclipse tonight, but I remember watching one a few years ago while living in Minnesota. I remember that it was during a cold month because I had to get all bundled up and walk across the street to a park in the middle of the night to see it. It was really cool! Hope you enjoy it!

763 Good evening all

Lots of game players. Fun guessing game. I'm not knowledgeable enough to participate.

Loved the stories of the Poles and the Greeks.

I've always thought that we should have been able to get the kneelers to bow to the flag or some such mockery.

I have this old fashioned notion that America takes the best of all cultures and appreciates it and might make an improvement, but it's an old fashioned notion.

773 The eclipse is here in its full glory. I remember about 10 years ago I flew to Maine to watch a full lunar eclipse on the beach I played on as a child. I just tried to wake Little to see if he wanted to see it, he didn't. Pity. I realize the enthusiasms of the father don't necessarily convey to their sons, but (IMO), it's a shame. It's so cool to watch.

788 "Now, factcheck.org says that what this doctor is saying has been proven wrong"

Factcheck.org said that Kyle had an illegal weapon.
And AFTER the Judge AND Prosecution BOTH agreed he didn't?
They have added an edit and left it stating the claim is false. with their edit that there might be questions.
Because the 20-something year old Journalism major is SURE he knows the law better than the Judge and lawyers on both sides, and only HE knows the "facts"!

It's a safe bet they're just idiots spouting party line bullcrap in this case, and every other case as well.
Because that's all I've seen them do for several years now.

Posted by: ertdfg at November 19, 2021 10:39 AM (I388C)

789 "Now, factcheck.org says that what this doctor is saying has been proven wrong."

NO ONE can prove anything wrong about what the doctor said until they disprove his data -- and I'm certain FC.org did nothing of the kind.

The open questions remain: 1) Is this happening? The doc's stats indicate that the answer is yes, and I'm educated-guessing that no one will disprove the data. 2) WHY is this happening? The doc's suggested (emphasis, SUGGESTED) causes seem plausible. If FC.org thinks they're not, they'd better come up with an alternative to explain this troubling data -- but they won't, because they don't care about anything beyond protecting the narrative.

790 Re: King Solomon's mines...

the fact that the mines may exist isn't really proof that the Bible is 100% true, just that the people writing the Bible lived in or around the time that King Solomon existed and had a mine.

IIRC, the existence of King Solomon is generally accepted as factual. He is (probably) a real historical figure. That a King had mines, especially when a book written around that time said that he did, isn't really some shocking revelation.

Many of Stephen King's novels are written in real cities, and reference things that occurred historically and in reality around that time. That doesn't mean that a Plymouth Fury really became self-aware and started murdering people.

Furthermore, there are a lot of things referenced in the Bible that are agreed are not historically accurate. The fall of Jericho, for instance, has literally zero historical evidence for having occurred at the time claimed. The flood of Noah, also, has been totally disproven by the geologic column, as well as the fact that there literally isn't enough water in our entire solar system to do what the Bible said happened, much less on Earth.

I could go on...

791 In fact, the consensus is that most of the conquest stories told on Exodus are not historical, but legend. Moses, himself, probably never existed (this is the consensus even for Biblical scholars who are actual Christians), as it's pretty clear that his character is a composite of earlier characters from other religions, co-opted by the OT, and there is zero historical evidence of him outside of the OT.

The Hebrews were never enslaved in Egypt in the way the Bible claims. The Exodus didn't happen. The conquest of Canaan as described in the OT is complete myth.

The Earth is not a flat plain, underwater, divided into four quadrants, and covered by a crystal dome to keep the water that fills outer space out.

The OT is not a historical record. That it gets some things right is merely a relic of the fact that OF COURSE someone writing a book of legends is going to reference at least some things that actually happened, and people that actually existed.
