Some news from Virginia: Fairfax County is delayed in counting and reporting its early vote totals, which the county had promised to make public by 8pm. Unclear how late they will be.
The PartymanExactly my thought. They are calculating how much they will need to cheat to win. If it's too much, they risk detection and possible incarceration. I'm not sure if I'm rooting for "Cheat" or "Don't Cheat" right now. I'd love to see the scab ripped off this festering, corrupt wound. Update: Harmeet K. Dillon says they're not cheating.

Just like when they paused the count on election night 2020, everyone knows what's happening, but within a few weeks everyone will pretend it was nothing. Fairfax county is waiting to see if the race is close enough to steal. Right now it looks like it might not be.

Well, it's conceivable Biden actually did get the most votes, just like Gore in 2000 and Hillary in 2016 - just not where they needed them, under our electoral system.
But will we ever know? I think nuclear weapons design information is easier to find than any useful info on investigations into fraud in 2020 (incl. the Maricopa audit).
I guess there are things under way in AZ and GA and possibly soon in WI and parts of PA. But the casual, lackadaisical nature of it all is the perfect accompaniment to what looks like the constitutional collapse of a year ago.

I don't think it matters that much. I don't know much about him either but it seems he has threaded the needle, trying to gain with moderates, wine moms, and keep conservatives on board. The VA GOP candidate is always branded as a hard right radical. But they have tried all kinds of squishes, and that doesn't work either. At some point you have to say this is the best we got and it is what it is.
I don't think someone who is more MAGA would have done better. I am not saying he is going to lose, but I don't think if he does it is because he was too much GOPe. It is modern VA and the numbers are what they are. The stuff out of Fairfax is concerning, though the least surprising thing ever.

Youngkin snagged the GOP nod by cozying up to Trump's big lie about "election fraud". After securing the nomination, Youngkin based his entire campaign on promising to ban the teaching of something (critical race theory) that has never been taught in Virginia (and as a 45 year veteran teacher in VA public schools, I can attest to that fact).
Terry McAuliffe ran on his record ... during his term in office VA rated as one of the best states in the nation for education, and as one of the top states for business.
We already know that the GOP playbook consists of bullshit and misinformation. I guess tonight we'll find out if it works in my home state.

Fairfax county is waiting to see if the race is close enough to steal. Right now it looks like it might not be.
Exactly my thought. They are calculating how much they will need to cheat to win. If it's too much, they risk detection and possible incarceration.

Folks, heard from a TOP GOP lawyer in VA tonight that the Fairfax County thing had to do with an out of date/defective memory card. Both sides signed off on re-scan &it was witnessed by GOP lawyers in the room the whole time. Ain't over till its over, but looks good for Youngkin!

Fairfax will not flip this election - no excitement for McAuliffe here and we will probably have many fewer voters than 2020. Schools issue / parent's rights was the winning issue to bring Nova voting in line to enable a Repub win.
Aka - don't tell GS-15s that you don't want their feedback in the public schools. They are the professionals, and you should want their help, not reject it outright. Also, don't send FBI to monitor GS-15s at school board meetings. They do Gov, and get Gov, and they want no part of some fed gov stepping on their rights - yes, that's hypocrisy, but they don't care...

White people only make up 60 pct of the population in Virginia, depending on the population to voter registration ratio, he would have needed something in the neighborhood of 80-90 pct of the white vote.

2.6M was vote total in 2017. To get to that number there are some 800k votes to go. Those would have to go 75% for M.
Which is not going to happen. If the total goes up M has to get lower percentage. But I am going to say at this point it is looking good for all three Republican candidates.

Yeah -- they stood by and allowed the fraud and lawbreaking in 2020 to get rid of Trump. COVID gave them cover. So when the PA Supreme Court dismisses the challenge after the fact, on "laches" it's true, in the sense that the GOP stood by and did nothing beforehand.
The RINOs / GOPe is going to try to use Youngkin's victory as a means to reclaim leadership of the party. But the GOP desperately needs the new voters that Trump brings to the coalition. MAGA helped Youngkin win as much as the suburbs.

No one trusted the media hits thanks to the Biden corrupt coverage - and so many got exposed - that Youngkin was gonna stay teflon, even if there was something bad.
He played it VERY smartly, as did his running mates - they didn't fight the "fakes" - they let cameras and videos and motivated voters do the work and get them exposed...
The Friday hit didn't even run on local tv websites and news until Lincoln Project had taken credit for it...so, all it seemed was desperateand no one likes to wait in line and vote in the cold and rain (which was Fairfax all day today - coldest and rainiest day of the fall) for a possible loser...

Folks, heard from a TOP GOP lawyer in VA tonight that the Fairfax County thing had to do with an out of date/defective memory card. Both sides signed off on re-scan &it was witnessed by GOP lawyers in the room the whole time. Ain't over till its over, but looks good for Youngkin!

"Gun control", the truly epic "criminal justice reform" package that made shoplifting de facto legal, etc.
And when a prop goes the right way - like Prop 8, on marriage redefinition - what happens? Oh, right. A federal "court" destroys it, while faithless "constitutional officers" of the state stand by.
And then there's the CA GOP, perhaps the most pathetic of them all (though AZ competes for the title, in its own different way, more a matter of cliques). There have been exceptions, but generally a GOP pitch, state-wide, in CA, could be translated as "hey, we're less racist, idiotic, corrupt, and insane than THOSE guys! Really we are!!".

ANY rule that was changed outside of required legislation was illegal by definition. There's no reason to worry about ballot stuffing and cardboard on windows when openly illegal votes are allowed to be counted.

First, distinguish voters from "party". GOPe hasn't lost the GOP, or any important part of it.
Second, Trump clearly still has the voters. And remember he only became nominee/president by walking in as a true outsider and taking a major party nomination (never before done in modern times).
Third, his doing so was mostly based on 1) the issues and positions he brought (many of them life-long), 2) the disgust/fatigue of most GOP voters with the sub-pathetic GOPe menu placed before them.
Related, sorta - somebody please commence a "watch" on McCarthy and the House GOP, in the eternal campaign til the mid-terms (which they should win easily if only since that's a rarely-broken pattern), to see if they have an agenda of any specificity. A positive one, not "um, we're not THOSE guys!!!". Will be stunned if they ever sign on to anything specific and important. (how about "repeal Obamacare!")
