33 Update on Red, my grandnewphew
(My sister had me doing the fundraising updates since she is just overwhelmed with everything going on. Here's what I wrote on the update page)

Yesterday was scary - Red's BP crashed and he was back in critical condition, unable to breathe on his own and unable to move his body from the neck down. But with the help of your prayers he is awake now and can slightly move his leg, although he still needs the ventilator. His courage is indomitable.

Please keep praying for him - it really helps.

Good news on the Paypal front - they have started verifying donations so funds are beginning to get reflected on the fundraising total. Bad news is the hospital bills are mounting fast and are already at a million pesos. If you can find it in your heart to donate, any amount would really help.

(PS looks like the page is also letting credit card donations thru now - I tested)

137 I borrowed Dune: Part One (2021). I think it was pretty good. Not great, though maybe Part Two will have more story, since the book is a big story which Part One doesn't try to rush. And only one gender swap so far.

There are a couple of trivial changes which I don't get why they made them since at least one added to the budget. Casting was fair. Pacing very slow.

That sort of ending just wasn't going to fly in Hollywood.

237 Spent a week in the Haunted Hospital. Very very quiet. Every night though I would briefly hear a man's crazy maniacal laughter, sometimes a woman screaming. It was like being the governess in Jane Eyre. Perfect for October.

Turns out these crazy but *harmless* people live at the hospital, it was suggested due to connections. "It's Hoboken, honey." I guess their families want them close by and they have political clout. Probably much nicer than a mental institution would be.

On top of that the door to the bathroom in my room had a pair of ghostly eyes on it. Two knots of wood side by side but once you see it you can't unsee it.

You might have missed it, but France and Italy suffered a lot during WWII. They were occupied by NAZI Germany, a lot of fighting took place in their countries, a lot of stuff was broken. And the reality of the death camps came out too, which made a lot of people feel pretty sick about their culture that let that happen.
After the war, most people in Europe were flat broke. The Commies would have likely taken over (and actually did get a part of the Italian government for years) without the Marshall Plan money that largely refloated their economies.
So yeah, a lot of their "entertainment" was pretty depressing. A lot like ours now. They were spiritually sick in many ways.
A lot like America today; entertainment is kind of sick because our culture is sick.

There were several patients in nearby rooms who would either laugh maniacally or scream, late at night. A nurse asked me, "Are you scared?" I said nah but I wondered why they weren't in a mental institution. The nurse basically said they were there because somebody with clout wanted them there. It's a little disconcerting to find out you're sharing a regular old hospital floor wiith crazy but *harmless* mental patients.

Suddenly she comes tear-assing from the door on the lower level, white as a sheet.

She shouts that someone was in there. Someone was looking at her. Son and I trot down to the door which was a basement entrance. We felt uncomfortable, like something as off, but not as sharply as she did. Still. We did not linger. That was definitely a little building with a dark history. Y'all should check it out some time.
