The Morning Report – 10/20/2021

A bright and shiny good morning to all of you. Again, I’m sorry I can’t provide you the link-o-rama that J.J. does, but he’ll be back in just two days.

Chinese Police Uprooted And Delivered Forced Uyghur Labor To Prominent US Electronics Company

Universal Electronics, Inc., (“UEI” a US-based company that is a major manufacturer and supplier of electronics items, is getting some attention for the very favorable labor deal it has worked out with Communist China.

EXCLUSIVE: US electronics firm struck deal to transport and hire Uyghur workers (Reuters – 10/08/2021)

In at least one instance, Xinjiang authorities paid for a charter flight that delivered the Uyghur workers under police escort from Xinjiang's Hotan city - where the workers are from - to the UEI plant, according to officials in Qinzhou and Hotan interviewed by Reuters.

Responding to Reuters' questions about the transfer, a UEI spokeswoman said the company currently employs 365 Uyghur workers at the Qinzhou plant. It said it treated them the same as other workers in China and said it did not regard any of its employees as forced labor.

The beneficiaries of slave labor always like to talk about how well they treat their chattel, therefore they don’t “regard” them as “forced labor.”

I’m glad to see some US Senators paying attention, much to the chagrin of the Principled Free Traders™ who are such passionate fans of Chinese slave labor.

UEI - IBC - 1.JPG

So just who does UEI supply products to? Sony, Microsoft, Samsung, LG, and a whole bunch other familiar names. It’s been 156 years since the abolition of slavery in the United States, but it is quite likely that products currently in your household had slave labor involved in their production.

Ballot Stuffer Charged in Philadelphia

The media repeatedly assured us that there was not “widespread” voter fraud on Election Day, therefore it is just conspiracy talk to wonder if Joe Biden was elected legitimately. Yet I’ve never heard anyone in the media define just how many fraudulent ballots it would take to constitute “widespread.” One fraudulent ballot is one too many, yet it is understood and expected that Democrats will commit significant voter fraud.

I’m going to guess that this ballot-stuffer in Philly isn’t the only ballot-stuffer in Philly.

Staffer Charged in South Philly Voter Fraud Conspiracy (Philadelphia City Life – 10/13/2021)

Prosecutors say that these fraudulent votes were cast for candidates at every level of government, from municipal to state to federal.

She allegedly cast fraudulent votes herself in place of voters she knew wouldn’t be coming to the polls.

The government also alleges that she would encourage and permit in-person voters to vote on behalf of absent family members, “steering” those voters in support of the consultant’s candidates of choice.

To Fight Class Inequity, The Art Museum Of Chicago Could Redistribute its Billion Dollar Endowment

Providing volunteer labor to the Art Institute of Chicago is now considered an act of racism.

Chicago museum fires all of its mostly White female, financially well-off docents for lack of diversity (Fox News – 10/17/2021)

The Art Institute of Chicago fired all of its trained volunteers and guides last month, who were mostly older White women, to diversify its team

The firings were apparently sparked by the fact that most of the docent staff was composed of older White, financially well-off women, the outlet reported. Stein said that the museum needed to take a new path "in a way that allows community members of all income levels to participate, responds to issues of class and income equity, and does not require financial flexibility."

The Art Institute’s endowment is worth in excess of $1 billion. It was probably contributed by the same out-of-favor people who volunteer as docents. To show its commitment to ending racism, the Art Institute must re-distribute its endowment to Chicago’s non-docent class. Anything short of redistributing that full $1B endowment would be racist.

Climate Follies

So what’s going on with the climate hoax these days? Well, Europe is facing a potential catastrophe this winter with an energy shortage exacerbated by wind turbines that are barely producing any electricity.

And why aren’t they producing electricity? Because the wind isn’t blowing. And why isn’t the wind blowing? Oh – you know the answer. Climate change! Say hello to “Global Stilling”.

Climate Crazies Claim Global Stilling At Fault For Wind Turbines Not Producing Energy (Safe link to “The Lid” blog.)

Industry experts are warning that climate change may have caused wind speeds in Europe to plummet this year in news that threatens to drive energy prices even higher.

There are some scary stories out there about the energy crisis facing Europe this winter, and if it is colder than normal, it could be a deadly and catastrophic winter.

Good thing for them the earth is boiling hot. Wait. Uh-oh…

South Pole posts most severe cold season on record, an anomaly in a warming world

The average temperature at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station between April and September, a frigid minus-78 degrees (minus-61 Celsius), was the coldest on record, dating back to 1957. This was 4.5 degrees lower than the most recent 30-year average.

The temperature averaged over September was also the coldest on record at South Pole.

The extreme cold over Antarctica helped push sea ice levels surrounding the continent to their fifth-highest level on record in August, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

Look at that headline one more time, “an anomaly…” It’s not an anomaly if there is no such thing as global warming. I fear that the earth is starting a natural, non-man-made phase of global cooling.

39 The firings were apparently sparked by the fact that most of the docent staff was composed of older White, financially well-off women, the outlet reported.

--

I'm just curious, did these ladies have to provide their financial records to be hired on as volunteer docents? How else would it be acknowledged they were "well-off?" Could it be they were just older, retired persons who wanted something to do to fill their time and happened to have an affinity for the museum?

I will gleefully enjoy the remaining diverse staff to dwindle to near zero. There is limitless insanity going on in America. It's very sad to see.

47 I agree about the reparations to the non-docent class.

Chicago has a population of around 2.75 million (excluding the metro area outside of the city proper). It is likely that the total number of docents rounds comfortably to zero, so they can be disregarded for the purpose of estimating the reparations.

A billion dollars split 2.75 million ways amounts to about $360 for each person in Chicago proper. A nice windfall, really, especially in these inflationary times. Time to step up, Art Institute. Do the right thing. Be better.

Those two, which are essentially synonyms, are the normal meaning of "docent" in most contexts. The docent is typically someone involved with the museum or gallery, though is not part of the formal staff (by convention, though not by definition) and is usually a volunteer. They walk people through, give background, answer questions, etc. They are usually armchair experts (or a bit better) in the field. The blue collar version would maybe be the guy who comes over to help you fix your car by walking you through a process he knows.

I have most often seen the term in relation to art museums and galleries.

Yep. In order to flip the 2016 result, all the Democrats had to do was flip 3 states - Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania. Michigan was 10,700 vote win for Trump in 2016. Wisconsin was 22,700. Pennsylvania was 44,200. Everything from 2016 could have remained the same everywhere, all they needed to flip in 2020 was ~77,000 votes in 3 states. They did that and then took AZ and GA, because they could.

This is the kind of distraction that the press uses to deflect from the real problem. This is penny-ante shit. It's criminal and it's wrong and the chick should be punished, but this isn't what flipped the election. This kind of thing can make a big difference in extremely tight races and it's black-letter fraud, but it is one of the lesser frauds.

The greater frauds - large-scale vote forgery, double-counting, vote disposal, mail-in vote fraud, chain-of-custody violations, counting electronic trickery, other room antics, etc. - are the primary problem. But whenever there is concern about the major frauds like we have now, they go to the minor frauds and string someone up and say, "hey, it was a one-off and we got him."

Media bias isn't just in reportage, it's also in coverage and story selection.

140 Yet I've never heard anyone in the media define just how many fraudulent ballots it would take to constitute "widespread." One fraudulent ballot is one too many, yet it is understood and expected that Democrats will commit significant voter fraud.

I don't expect anything from broadcast media because an FCC license is required, plus someone is paying for that infrastructure. That means there are off-limit topics that no one, Left or "conservative" will mention.

Just a few: Election fraud, mRNA adverse reactions, George Soros and his paid for officials, Fauci et al and their attempts to make a depopulating chimera. Anything critical of central bankers.

Pro Tip: You want to know where the enemy is going to strike with an obvious assault - look to how they staff the prominent positions around the regulation of that domain. The more PC check boxes that person checks, the more likely that is where their next attack happens. Can't criticize it or be a racist, bigot homophobe.

Now that's actually interesting. The WEF wants a low-population world that is majority-Asian because many Asian cultures are more compatible with strict regimentation and top-down rule than other cultures. They want control across the globe, with a large slave class and a small ruling class - just like kings and aristocrats had in Ye Olden Days. But those ruling types need shipping. 152 A point about fundamental disagreements: When you know about them, and they are out in the open, you can work together. A simple example would be (remember?) when the MFM tried to make a "scandal" over Michelle Bachman's church's site, which had a Luther quote about Catholicism. They thought that would outrage Catholics.

No. We already knew about that, even if the average reporter didn't.

The problem - well, one of them - was that too many on the trans right, especially NR, stopped putting the splits within conservatism at front and center, and tried to pretend there was some sort of unanimity, under the names "fusion" and later "conservatarian". Look where that got them.

When you know where the differences lie, you can factor them in. You don't expect to agree, so you don't think it treason when that happens. But we have a long way to go before our paths diverge. (And, to his credit, Anton is one who gets this.)

Terry McAuliffe is indeed an acolyte of the Biden school. He did not end the interview because of "tough questions." He ended it because the interview raised topics he did not want to talk about.

McAuliffe said that Youngkin had said election integrity was the most important topic, and McAuliffe said that health care, COVID, and education were most important. The reporter asked "what about crime" which is NOT A TOUGH QUESTION. And that is when McAuliffe closed up shop.

Up until covid, my retired parents volunteered at the local science museum. My dad worked in the space exhibit, where most of the other docents were retired aerospace engineers (e.g. the guy who came up with the roll maneuver during a space shuttle takeoff). I have no idea what the race/ethnicity of each of these dudes were, but there was a diversity of experience that informed their skill at engaging museum guests (this exhibit has been a hit forever). Sad that CRT is destroying all joy in our society. Docents can't engage museum visitors with their love and enthusiasm because they have the wrong color skin, age, and income.

263 Exactly. The Democrats are so used to being protected, so used to softball interviews and puff pieces, they quite literally melt down when treated as any Republican would be treated 24/7/365.

Because these snowflakes you're referring to live in a fantasy world and have no virtue or character. It is evident in their arguments. If you say that you are Pro Life, they might respond "What if [insert corner case]"? That is, they fly instantly off to fantasy land and conjure up some scenario where they would personally compromise on, then due to lack of Theory of Mind will project their weaknesses on to you.

So when interviewed, they fly off to fantasy land, too dull in thought to come up with something that they would normally parrot (explains the requirement for "thought leaders") then, like an infant, start throwing a tantrum, or make up some bat scat insane reversal of logic and sit smugly back as you (nor any other rational person) could counter it without providing remedial instruction on the topic.

270 I don't expect anything from broadcast media because an FCC license is required, plus someone is paying for that infrastructure. That means there are off-limit topics that no one, Left or "conservative" will mention.

Just a few: Election fraud, mRNA adverse reactions, George Soros and his paid for officials, Fauci et al and their attempts to make a depopulating chimera. Anything critical of central bankers.

This is how they get around their desire to eliminate all conservatives from the media. They don't have to, they can just limit what facts and news and messages they are allowed to share on the air to the masses. Anything that is being reported is what the Left allows to be reported. There is no one who is "breaking news" that the Left does not want out there. Tucker Carlson is seen by many conservatives as some kind of hero for what he reports. I don't see him - or anyone - that way. He, just like everyone else, is given a script of things he is allowed to say. And he agrees to it in order to keep his high-paying job and celebrity on FNC.

271 The thing about that museum story is that it's true that not everybody who has an interest in art can afford to volunteer their time to be a docent. But that isn't a racial thing, it's a class thing.

There are probably a lot of young, working-class white people who'd love to be paid $25 an hour to learn about art and lead museum tours, but they're not ever going to get the opportunity, because they don't have the "right" skin color.

They don't have the logistics savvy or skill. They don't actually do it. They have a bunch of people in Place A. They want to move them to Place B. So how do they do it? They call a contractor and say, "I want you to move 300 people from A to B per our contract." The contractor sends the planes and whatnot and gets them moved. Once they arrive at B, they enter various NGO organs who expedite things without waiting for the government or following the pesky rules about stuff.

They have no logistics skill, they just have lots of funny money they use to buy the logistics skills of their contractors.

323 268 Did it ever occur to the Art Institute of Chicago that the reason they had only white docents is because no one of another race ever volunteered?
Posted by: grammie winger
___________

Oh they know that, grammie. The museum actively and aggressively tried to recruit POC volunteer docents. And they failed, miserably.

But you see, the reason that POC's wouldn't take the volunteer positions is not because they're not interested in art. No, it's because POC's have historically been discriminated against in this country, and denied the opportunity to amass wealth like whites have done! (And BTW, blacks who became wealthy in Chicago, like Oprah and Michael Jordan and the Obamas, obviously don't count, because . . . shut up raaaaacist).

That's what all the bullshit from the museum about how they're going to make art "accessible" to everyone, regardless of "financial flexibility" was about.

Except it's a lie. They don't give a shit about low-income whites who are interested in art. A low-income white applicant for the docent job is not even going to get an interview. The museum only cares about virtue-signaling its "progressive" hiring of POC's.

Always. Hell, Marx was doing his thing 100 years *before* that and it was the same thing. They masquerade as industrial socialists but they know the truth. It's just going to be pre-industrial feudalism. Our current masters of the universe think they can have their cake and eat it, too and get automated industrial high-tech feudalism. I suspect they are wrong about that.

________

I've got to say this again: serious historians do NOT use the word "feudalism" that way. It is, in fact, a Marxist usage. Back when I was in school, this was well known. Feudalism is a system of military service and land tenure. There is no necessary connection between a feudal system and serfdom.

It's never a good idea to spread Marxist interpretations of anything. Never.

370 I'm shocked the NHL hasn't fined or suspended Colorado Avalanche player Nathan MacKinnon for breaking the code of silence regarding the farcical league COVID "protocol". Coming back to action after being held out for a week following a positive test, the fully vaccinated MacKinnon said this:

"Tested positive for COVID, I didn't believe them at first. Didn't feel anything. I was working out the whole time at home, doing all I can to stay in shape. It's just unfortunate. You know, I didn't infect anybody in my family. Nobody got sick. No teammates got sick. So that's lucky I guess. Yeah, I didn't feel anything."

I first saw the quote on an official NHL page yesterday, but it now seems to have been scrubbed. Still out there on the webs.

Zookeeping isn't common in any group. Zookeeping is extremely rare no matter what. It's specialty work and it is unusual. I would suspect, in the absence of actual data, that the presence of more than 1-2 black zookeepers - and there are surely more than that many in the United States - in the tiny overall population of zookeepers probably shows that there are more black zookeepers than you would expect purely on the basis of statistical averages.

There are also a lot of commenters on blogs -- especially here at AoSHQ -- who have shared a ton of knowledge in the comments over the past 12 or so years I have been reading and commenting here, whom I a lot of times wish they had their own blogs to share this info, instead of getting lost in comment sections.

433 I would not be surprised if the cycle times have been quietly increased again to keep the "delta surge" going. They closed a local high school because 80 students tested positive in 1 day. I am not seeing it in the ER much anymore. So where are these "cases" coming from? Why did they test all of the students?

They are also merging "positive tests" with "cases" and considering them all "cases". Which they have been doing since last year.

Last year I read on the CDC website that a "COVID case" is supposed to be "positive test + symptomatic". Not sure if that has been changed at all, but I do know that none of the SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 data for cases, hospitalizations and deaths is accurate. Especially considering the PCR test does not work, per FDA and CDC.

No one should be getting tested at all, unless they are exhibiting symptoms. But this is why they have the mandatory testing in so many places. So they can rig the testing to find more "positive tests" and call them "cases", even when 99% of the "positive tests" are asymptomatic or false positives.

Fair enough. The basis of the landed gentry and the serfs they possessed was their ability to muster forces and material for war. The modern version is going to have a different basis. The effective outcome - the serfs held rightless and bound to their territory and living on the whim of their lord - will be similar.

Only sort of. Serfs had two rights slaves did not:
1. The right not to be sold or transferred against their will to a different owner.
2. The right to be a freeman if they fled and stayed gone for some period of time (often a year and a day).

Serfdom and slavery are far more alike than they are different. They aren't exactly chattels as they can't be traded arbitrarily, but they were the property of their lords. And yes, traditional landed feudalism was on its way out long before the industrial period started. The end of serfdom when the commons were closed and Dutch Farming started taking off (moreso in Britain than in Holland), resulting in more food with fewer people and serfs more or less being forced off the estates.

496 385 "cultivating fully accessible spaces"

What - the Art Institute was keeping black people from seeing the Monet Exhibit?
Posted by: grammie winger
* * *

No. Poverty was keeping blacks from going to the museum.

In Progressive-land, all blacks are hard-working, noble, decent people who are totes interested in the finer things in life like art, but they can't express those interests because Evil Whitey won't ever let blacks get wealthy enough to have the time to indulge those interests. Whitey makes all black folks spend all their time working just to keep a roof over their heads, so they don't have time to go to museums, which they would eagerly do, if only they could afford to.

In Progressive-land, there are no poor white folks, and any white folks who aren't stinking rich are just lazy, no-good layabouts who don't even have enough sense or initiative to exploit their inherent white privilege.

That's why the museum is only going to hire "colorful" people as paid docents. Whites need not apply. The museum knows that whites don't deserve those jobs.

Because if we knew the number of infections we could easily tabulate hospitalizations and deaths (those numbers are gamed too I know).

579 CA ports have long had additional odious requirements, emissions, pier passes and such, making importing from the Asian countries a bitch. And we all know how much is imported from China, HK, S. Korea and Japan. So, it's long been a problem, but now it's a crisis. CA ports have had many big backups over the years that went largely unnoticed by the general public. Now it's out in the open.

my better half works for a forwarding company and can attest to this. i get to listen to her o on about trucker shortages all the time. and then the steamship lines and ports and airlines and...

sometimes it's enough to make me drink just listening to it...

580 i thought i read 10 years or newer, but could be wrong about that.

Might be, I'm going off of memory. More likely 3 years or newer with a "BUT" somewhere in it to allow a grandfathering.

581 More Selzer:

"In 2020 exit polling, President Biden won independent voters by a 54 % to 41 % margin," said J. Ann Selzer of Selzer & Company. "If the election were held today, our poll shows former President Trump winning that group 45 % to 28 %. It is a massive shift in a demographic that helped carry Biden to victory less than two years ago."

582 Gee, you don't suppose there was anything nefarious going on in Philly when Poll Watchers were excluded from seeing what was going on do you? Nah man totally kosher, even though a Democratic Poll Watcher went viral the day of the election complaining about the voter fraud.

81 million votes man, 81 million, and no mean tweets.

594 "White Texas Property Owner Avoids Arrest After Killing Moroccan Driver".

Do I need to point out that 1. This wouldn't have been a story at all if the killing had gone the other way. 2. Why exactly was he/she identified as a "White Texas Property Owner"? I don't know of any Texans, of any race, who don't own some property, having not seen anyone with no clothing, even the homeless have shopping carts full of stuff. Sounds to me like a class action defamation law suit may be in order.

596 Of course, everything being done to the January 6th defendants is a direct violation of the 8th amendment. Excessive bail, although according to leftist lawyers, no bail is not excessive for trespassing, and one dollar bail would be excessive. Solitary for 9 months for trespassing, certainly seems both "cruel and unusual" punishment. The people convicted of trespassing have been fined excessively too.

So the government has managed to violate every single part of the 8th amendment. I guess the Dems must be planning on housing soldiers in private homes, since the 3rd seems to have escaped their grasp so far.

599 Free Trade is for idiots who are fearful of experiencing the unparalleled prosperity of the 1930s! After we were passed and made law, 1931 was a boom year that has not been repeated since!

People need to RESTRICT trade, not make it possible. And if need be, they need to be FORCED to make the right decisions.
