Gun Thread: Howdy From Texas Edition!

texas flag 102421 scaled.jpg

Howdy, Y'all! Welcome to the wondrously fabulous Gun Thread! As always, I want to thank all of our regulars for being here week in and week out, and also offer a bigly Gun Thread welcome to any newcomers who may be joining us tonight. Howdy and thank you for stopping by! I hope you find our wacky conversation on the subject of guns 'n shooting both enjoyable and informative. You are always welcome to lurk in the shadows of shame, but I'd like to invite you to jump into the conversation, say howdy, and tell us what kind of shooting you like to do!

Q: Guess who is deep in the Heart of Texas?
A: Weasel! Weasel are deep in the heart of Texas!!

That's right, I am writing this on Tuesday after arriving at the beautiful ranch belonging to Rancher Bob and Cow Horse Queen late Monday afternoon. The trip down is a full two days, and although it's a pretty drive, there is a lot of it! Anyhoo, went to dinner last night with Ben Had, RB, and CHQ, then sat around an outdoor fire solving the problems of the word and catching up since last year. They are truly wonderful people, and other than displaying the questionable intelligence of inviting me into their home, are the kind of folks I'm proud to have as friends.

Anyhoo, as you are reading this Sunday I will be on my way back to Virginia with another incredible Texas MoMe in the books. We'll have laughed, and we'll have cried. We'll have eaten, drinken, and been merry. Since I am writing this in advance I will not have time to include details of the MoMe, but you are welcome to discuss all the fun in the comments below this evening, and I will include a Post MoMe Discussion & Analysis section next week!

Post TXMoMe Sunday Update: Made it to Nashville. Ho-lee Shitballs!!! How much fun was that?!?! I'm still trying to absorb the events of the last few days, and I'm still pretty much speechless after last evening. You all are the BEST, and I love you all. I will have a more complete thank you next Sunday!

With that, let's get to the gun stuff below, shall we?

******

Re-Run O' Rama!
I hinted at this last Sunday, but I need to put this together sort of quickly so we can start preparing later today for the TXMoMe beginning Friday. I have decided I am best suited for a supervisory role which does not involve a lot of actual work, so after unloading guns n' ammo n' my lawn chair from the car, I'll pretty much finished with my part of the process and will be patiently waiting on everyone else to hurry the hell up with their stuff. Supervisin' is hard work!

For those of you attending, the weather forecast is just about perfect. Daytime highs in the 80s and evenings in the 60s with a breeze which can make it cool. Also, breezy during the day which will give us some interesting wind problems to solve on the range!

I am really looking forward to everyone getting here, saying hello and doing some shooting together! Hurry up, Y'all!

M1A 102421 scaled.jpg

1999 Springfield Armory, Inc. M1A Loaded Model

I have to admit I think this may be my favorite rifle. I just like everything about it. It's well balanced, fun to shoot, fun to look at, sort of fun to clean (not really), and makes it seem like I know what I'm doing on a rifle range. Pointy end downrange, right?

The M1A is the semi-automatic civilian version of the M14. Chambered in .308 Winchester or 7.62x51mm NATO, the fully automatic M14 was introduced as a replacement for the M1 Garand beginning in 1959, and served as the U.S. battle rifle until the arrival of the M16 around 1964. The M14 continues to be used by specialized units to this day.

In 1974, Springfield Armory, Inc., a private corporation headquartered in Genesco, IL., began production of the M1A. Offering several different models with an array of features; the M1A remains popular with competitive shooters, marksmen, hunters and sportsmen alike. The M1A 'Loaded' model pictured above includes as standard a number of match grade components including a National Match barrel, front and rear sights and two stage military trigger. Although not standard on the Loaded model, this particular rifle has a custom bedding job and was very clearly someone's well cared for match rifle. Although I haven't done any scientific measuring, with decent ammo off a bench I think this is probably very close to a 1 MOA rifle. Did I mention it was fun to shoot?

ammo 1 102421 scaled.jpg

Although very small physical and pressure differences do exist, .308 Winchester and 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition is interchangeable, with the .308 Win developing slightly higher pressure. Over the years, the military has produced M80 Ball, M118 Match and M852 NATO Match ammunition to varying degrees of accuracy. Unfortunately, military loads are often driven by the economics of component availability, with accuracy sometimes becoming a secondary consideration. Whether you're shooting surplus, commercial or handloaded ammunition, look for a bullet weight in the 168 gr to 175 gr range, and a muzzle velocity around 2600 fps for best performance.

2021 Update : Here is a video I made at the farm shooting this rifle

Did I bring this rifle to Texas? No, unfortunately I am not that smart. Maybe next year!

carry fail 102421 pic scaled.jpg
Interesting Variation on Classic IWB Carry

Anyone else use the Advanced Lower Back Muzzle Peekaboo style for concealed carry?

A few weeks ago we talked about buying a first gun, and today I'd like to discuss carry permits and carrying a weapon.

I firmly believe that the single best carry gun in the universe is the one you actually have with you when you need it. Regardless of caliber, sights, custom trigger and all the rest, the gun you left at home in your sock drawer isn't going to do you a whole lot of good when the unexpected occurs. This is why some gun owners get a concealed weapon permit and then carry a concealed weapon.

Before we begin the usual banter and fun commentary, a serious note:
Not everyone wants or needs to carry a gun, and if you aren't comfortable doing so, then you are one who probably shouldn't consider it. I'd feel better if you did, but it's a big responsibility, and not something to ever be taken casually. Carrying a gun is a very serious business and needs to be treated as such. If the unthinkable occurs and God forbid you use a weapon to defend yourself or others, in the time it takes to pull the trigger you will have changed your life, and presumably the target's life, forever.

Think about that.

As I write this, reports are just coming in of another horrific mass shooting, this time at a nightclub in Thousand Oaks, California. What drove the person to commit such a heinous acts will probably never be known. However, I think it's safe to say we do know a couple of important facts; we will never be able to un-invent, or confiscate, all the guns, and just one properly trained and armed person in a crowd of hundreds would have at least had a chance to stop the massacre.

Think about that, too.

OK, end of Mr. Serious-Pants.

*******

The Permit
I live in Virginia, and like many states today, at one time it was nearly impossible to get a concealed carry permit here. Things have changed, and today as long as you pass a background check and can demonstrate competency with a firearm, you should be approved for a permit. For me the process was straightforward; submit fingerprints with an application, show that I'd attended a brief but practical course on the topic, and pay a fee to the city where I live. A few weeks later, the permit came in the mail. There are going to be some variables to the process based on where you live but Virginia is likely representative of other "shall issue" states, where one must only meet the criteria specified in the law and is not required to demonstrate a subjective 'need' to be considered for approval.

Do you have a permit? For those living in "may issue" states, what was the 'need' you specified and how were you required to support the claim?

What to Carry
You've gone through the process of obtaining a permit to carry a concealed weapon, and your next decision is likely what As I mentioned above, any gun is better than no gun. I would much rather be armed with some puny girly-man caliber handgun than relying on throwing bags of Fritos and Slim Jims at the bad guy holding up the gas station late at night. So which handgun is my carry gun, you ask? Well using my super-genius reasoning, they're all candidates, with varying degrees of suitability. My main carry gun is one designed for the job, a Kimber Compact Custom in 45 ACP with a 4 inch barrel.

kimber 102421 scaled.jpg
Kimber Compact Custom

Another handgun that I carry is a revolver, the S&W Model 686 in .357 Magnum with a 2 1/2 inch barrel. I carry this gun mostly at the farm with the first two or three cylinders loaded with rat or snake shot. Haven't had to use it yet.

sw686 102421 scaled.jpg
Smith & Wesson Model 686

The common element for both guns is absolute reliability and a short barrel, and I practice with them enough to hit the center of a target at a reasonable distance.

Which gun do you carry and why? Is bigger always better, or is comfort and concealability a greater consideration for you?

***How to Carry It***
Now you've gone through the process of obtaining a permit to carry a concealed weapon and found the ideal weapon to carry - so what are your options for carrying it around?

Most people like to use holsters, but other options do exist. Like a handbag or purse for girls, and the man bag or satchel (*snicker*) for boys. There's even a rig employing the under-bewb or frontal overhang region as a concealment area for the ladies (and some of the gentlemen). All sorts of contraptions exist to conceal a firearm, but in my opinion, the farther you get away from a simple and straightforward sidearm holster, the less useable the firearm becomes. Unless of course you're a super-badass quickdrawing mo-fo with cat-like reflexes, of which the internet breeds many. And don't forget that states have very specific definitions for weapons in vehicles and what is considered 'concealment' - know the laws wherever and however you travel.

I prefer Outside Waist Band (OWB) holsters over Inside Waist Band (IWB). They seem to be more comfortable to me, but both work. The best holster for you is the one that's comfortable FOR YOU, and isn't such a miserable experience you're tempted to leave the whole mess at home to begin with. Ask around and don't be surprised if you have to try a few over time to get one that feels right.

holsters 102421 scaled.jpg

I like these holsters - do you have a favorite brand or style?

m1a exploded 102421 scaled.jpg
No worries - That'll buff out!

When it comes to ruining your day, this is a pretty effective way to do it.

exploded 102421 scaled.jpg

Today let's talk about getting a bigger bang than expected. Or a smaller bang than expected. Or pretty much any sort of result other than you expected.

Squib Loads and Barrel Blockages
Over the years, I have reloaded a lot of handgun and rifle ammunition, and have had a squib load block the barrel exactly once. When it happened, I could tell the recoil and sound were completely wrong and fortunately didn't pull the trigger again. After making the gun safe I took a peek and could see the bullet resting peacefully about 1/4 inch from the end of the barrel just waiting to cause a disaster. Ruh Roh!
What had happened is this; I was load testing and measuring muzzle velocity in a series of cartridges with decreasing powder charges, and although still above the published minimum, this particular round didn't make it out of the barrel. Muzzle velocity = 0 feet per second. Test concluded.

There are a couple of lessons here. First, pay attention to what the hell is going on while you're shooting. It is possible to become so focused on the target, and looking good for the range babes, that you lose sight of everything else. If something jams, or breaks, or sounds and feels different, stop pulling the trigger and investigate. If you're a new shooter and not quite sure what to do, put the gun down pointed in a safe direction and call over the RSO. Explain what you think is going on and let them help you. Second, be very careful when reloading. Things can go wrong even when you haven't done anything overtly retarded. I was trying to find a lower velocity accuracy node and while I was technically above the minimum published load, apparently the bullet didn't get the memo. If I hadn't realized what had happened, I could have turned an annoyance (tapping the bullet out later) into a big mess - ruining the barrel of a nice revolver, or worse.

Squib barrel 102421 scaled.jpg
How is This Even Possible?

Here's an extremely lucky cat who just used up eleven lives and is fortunate to have only ruined a barrel. Hands and fingers and eyeballs are much more difficult to replace. Did someone really pull the trigger that many times, even stopping to reload the gun, without realizing something was wrong?

And speaking of reloading...

Big Reloading No-No: Double Charge or Wrong Powder
Reloading can be fun and a rewarding part of shooting. For competitive shooters it can be a necessity, and for normal people it can be an economical way to shoot more and not be totally dependent on retail ammunition supply. It can also turn a fun day at the range into a complete nightmare if you are not absolutely focused on the job at hand while at the reloading bench. I'm pretty cautious by nature, and even more so while I'm reloading. Just as there are safety rules to follow while handling firearms, some must also be followed while reloading.

First, I allow zero distractions. Realizing my limited mental faculties do not permit me to do two things at once, I don't watch TV or listen to the radio while I'm reloading. I don't even want anyone talking to me while I'm at the reloading bench, and will stop what I'm doing if a distraction presents itself. I pause at each step and check my work.

can you tell a difference 1 102421 scaled.jpg
Can you Tell a Difference?

<not the same 102421 scaled.jpg
Confusing on Purpose?

The biggest potential for excitement relates to powder. When I started reloading I was surprised to learn there are literally hundreds of types of gunpowder all burning at different rates. The unit of measure for gunpowder is the grain (gr) which is equal to 1/7000th of a pound. In some cases, a safe load can become unsafe when it varies by as little as a few tenths of one grain, so imagine the mayhem if you inadvertently doubled the amount of powder in a cartridge. One good way to avoid this is by selecting a powder in which the desired load cannot be doubled without overflowing the case (volumetrically greater than 50% of the case capacity). Hopefully the observant reloader will notice gunpowder spilling all over the place and make some adjustments. Another problem is forgetting the powder altogether - see squib, above.

model 29 exploded 102421 SCALED.jpg
This Isn't Good

A mistake with potentially disastrous consequences is simply using the wrong powder, and it's easy to do if you're not paying attention. Pressures developed in modern cartridges can easily exceed 50,000 psi and selecting the incorrect powder, for example using a fast burning powder in place of a slow one, can easily exceed the design pressures of the gun and result in a catastrophic failure. The only way I know to help prevent this is to never keep more than one powder on the reloading bench at a time and always check and recheck the powder you have selected before beginning a reloading session.

Have any of the reloaders among us had an accident (or a scare) related to reloading? What happened and how would you recommend preventing it from happening again?

34 I think the Springfield Armory M1A version made sense. The full auto M-14 did not and the development and manufacturing of it was a trainwreck. The Italians used the Garand as the basis for their 7.62 Nato rifles and they did so with their BM-59 versions both faster and cheaper.

Pasture Distances
From where the back porch will be to the first tree line: 1584 ft., aka 530 yds. Not to the inch.
From the back porch with a dogleg right to the National Grasslands fence, which would require cutting down four trees - 2112 ft., aka 700 yds.

Well, I didn't spend that kind of $$$ on my own kid's wedding gifts but if money is no object, why not. There are obviously federal issues if you and they are not residents of the same state. Even if you are, it might be better to go to the gun shop, tell them what you want, pay for it, and then have the recipients go do the paperwork themselves.

43 When I am discussing the Springfield Armory M1A, I am fully aware that it was originally a parts version of the M-14 with a semi auto receiver then became manufacturing using new parts made by the private Springfield Armory. A box magazine made sense for the Garand and John Garand's original design included it. It was dropped by Army request sometime before production started on the Garand.

I think very highly of the Sig P-365 as a carry piece. For me, it is small, and punches significantly above its weight accuracy-wise. However, a couple of shooters had issues with initial accuracy, and more significantly one kept hitting the magazine release, while another had difficultly manipulating it. Basically, an object lesson that what's right for one person won't be for another, and you're well off trying as many as possible before buying.

The second observation is that nurse ratched can shoot a 1911, with 23 of 24 rounds going into ~1.5" at ~ 11 yards. She shot so well that the steel target cried uncle after 12 rounds, and fell off its stand.

Posted by: Duncanthrax at October 24, 2021 06:21 PM (a3Q+t)

47 As to the M1A differences from the M1, because of the magazine, the M14/M1A didn't have that comforting *PING!* sound when your rifle is empty.

Weasel, I also noted you're pulling the sling tight when shooting in that position. What's your reasoning for doing that? (I can think of a couple.) [Yeah, Weasel ain't here. I'm hoping he reads the comments and responds next week.]

53 Hi Weasel! Based on my visit to my LGS and looking at SG Ammo's listings, I think the shortage is over for the NATO standard calibers (9mm X 19, 5.56mm X 45, etc.). The LGS just got in a shipment (1 case of 2000 rounds) of .38 Special and had .45 ACP, but it wasn't cheap. If you're looking for (formerly) common hunting rounds (.30-30, .30-06), good luck trying to find anything. Prices are coming down for NATO standard calibers, but not as much for anything else.

Well, if you're a certain kind of former Marine, and encounter a certain kind of soy boy robber, you can just push his gun out of the way and give him a solid haymaker, then take _his_ gun away. All while not even letting go of your Slim Jims and Fritos. (I'm sure you've all seen the video.)

58 Before we begin the usual banter and fun commentary, a serious note:
Not everyone wants or needs a carry permit, and if you aren't comfortable doing so, then you are one who probably shouldn't consider it. I'd feel better if you didn't, but it's a big responsibility, and not something to ever be taken casually. Having a carry permit is a very serious business and needs to be treated as such. If the unthinkable occurs and God forbid you put yourself on a list....

Move to a free state that observes Constitutional Carry. I believe we're up to 23 states now. Even Texas finally got on board with it.

Posted by: insurgens ad opus at October 24, 2021 06:25 PM (COPCI)

59 Yes, I have a carry permit and prefer to carry a snubby revolver in a pocket holster. (I gave it a LOT of thought before deciding to carry.) Not entirely happy about pocket carry since it's a problem to get the gun out when seated in the car. As I continue to lose weight I will likely look into an outside the waist band holster especially since I never tuck in my shirt any more. Same with the little S and W Shield 9mm.

I practice with the carry guns at seven to ten yards and can reliably keep a 2 inch or less group rapid fire. That size group took some time to learn, it wasn't without effort.

Someone posted a link in the food thread to a vid of a guy talking about it. She is clearly not mature enough for the kind of responsibility the job requires. Blank powders are very fast powders generating a lot of hot gas and pressure in a hurry and can blow up a pistol if not careful or if there is a barrel obstruction.

99 My two cents only, but for those who can, go with the online retailers. The online sellers like SG Ammo have better prices on a per round basis than my LGS, especially if you buy in bulk. The only plus for the LGS is walking out w/ the ammo right after paying rather than waiting a few days for UPS or FedEx.

100 BTW, I'm still waiting on my NFA Tax Stamp for a suppressor I purchased in March. My application is "pending" according to the good folks at the ATF branch HQ, Bridgeport, WV. However, the shop I purchased it from has an indoor range, and allows "jailed" suppressors to be used by their future owners on the premises. So, I screwed it on the end of a 300 BLK pistol I built and spent 30 minutes going through about 60 rounds of subsonic ammunition. What a difference a can makes! The only downside is the gas-in-the-face experience one endures when running a suppressor on any direct-impingement AR type gun.

I have never had a squib load following this process and would like to maintain that record.

134 I load semi progressively on handgun ammo with a turret press but use a powder checker die to make sure that a powder load drops. Full progressives need a powder cop that stops the press if no powder drops. Rifle rounds loaded in small batches, a flashlight will do to check for powder drop. There are also led lights that mount to the top of some presses so that you get a good view of the insides of cases including powder.

Weasel's words are correct: btw, you should also only have the powder jug that you are using right then to load on your reloading surface and same for primers. I personally write the cartridge type, oal, primer, powder charge in grains, date loaded, and specific bullets either on a sticker label or on some cardboard and foam ammo boxes that you can get online at reloading supply stores.

138 Did get to the range yesterday, trying out my fixed CZ P-07 kadet barrel (I had a squib hammered out after I failed to get it free).

Gun fired just fine, about 140 .22 rounds.

Then fired 50 115gr JHP Fiocci ammo, which was nicely grouped, though the P-07 shots a little low in the 115gr, it prefers the 124 for POA impact.

Great fun.

139 The Texans present at the TxMoMe, in view of his service to the MoMe over the years, and after the appropriate and serious deliberation needed for this momentous instance, voted in Weasel as an Honorary Texan.

Being a Texan, whether native, adopted, or honorary, is not all fun and games. It comes with a number of traditions and responsibilities, one of which is captured in the phrase "One riot, one round". Now, there are, unfortunately, some rounds (*cough* 9mm *cough*that cannot be counted on, however beloved they are by certain misinformed Smart Military Blog commenters. So, to make sure Weasel could meet any immediate need to fulfill said obligation, he was issued a round of .45 ACP.

As he accepted, huzzahs erupted, welcoming Weasel as a fellow Texan.

Well done, and well-deserved, Weasel!

147 TX MoMe Range report, day 1 (posted from the road in Dumas, TX)

Jesse and I started the day with Weasel's excellent mid range shooting class. Of course, it was WAY beyond my ability and understanding at this point, but good to start learning. Neither of us attempted to shoot at the rifle range, though. Then we took Jim SND's awesome intro pistol class and headed to the pistol range. I've taken classes before, but Jim's explanation of sight alignment was especially helpful to me.

I wanted to work with my Sig P365. Lately I've been absolutely awful with it. Both Jim and Eromero (who is perhaps the most patient and levelheaded person I've ever met) gave me very good corrections. Sadly, I'm still terrible, horrible, no good, very bad with this gun, (1 shot of 20 on paper). Everyone else was awesome!

Have to go eat now but will follow up with Day 2 range report later (my shooting experience was somewhat better)

210 Weasel, safe travels home.
Thanks for the thread, as always.
Went to the range today with a neighbor. I was very happy with my shooting at 21 and 30 feet, with my handgun.
Neighbor had a new S&W Compact(IIRC). Sometimes it was not going into battery. I suggested he might be limp wristing it. Neighbor thought I was crazy. Just then the RO came over. Neighbor asked him. And the RO suggested same limp wristing idea. Neighbor acknowledged my gun thread divined knowledge. Made me happy.
Also, we practiced with my Mantis device.

213 Yeah, they're going to try to blame the armorer. But ultimately, that idiot Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger while aiming the gun at someone.

Someone has to go down for this murder, and since Baldwin, the actor, cries real well and can pull off a very convincing show of contrition and remorse, some minion to the flunky is going to get framed with the rap.

Baldwin can afford more justice than anyone else on the set - he'll walk.

And yes, it is ONLY a permit to carry a concealed handgun. Which seems kindof silly to me.

I've read that the "armorer" hired was the daughter of none other than Thell Reed, one of the most famous Hollywood gun-handlers of all time. Ages are confusing though, Thell would be easily a decade older than me, and a 24 y/o sounds maybe more "granddaughter"?

Point being, you'd expect the spawn of such as Thell Reed to be much like Jerry Miculeck's daughter, hell on wheels with a gun in her own right. But, granddaughter? SHE might really be a single generation out of the tutelege of the Patriarch, and "once removed" would be enough to break the chain of competency, resulting in what we've now seen in the news.

For all but Baldwin, it seems to be a tragedy. For Baldwin? Far closer to Business as Usual, and more atrocity than tragedy, fwiw.

it was a Bad guys gun, a bad guy that was shooting at my friend.
Three of the chambers have been fired, in one of those fired chambers is lodged a .45 caliber round....pointed the "wrong way". It is a round HE fired at the bad guy, hit square into a chamber, knocked the gun from the badguys hand, also rendered it "Non-functional"...and rendered the bad guy into custody.
It is a pretty impressive conversation piece. Somewhere I have a phone pic I took of it. Cylinder is bulged, and slightly askew.

One of the other issues with how personal carry is. If your body shape isn't "normal" you have to begin experimenting. The new little doodad they're putting on IWB holsters? That pushes the belt out so the grip cants in to the body (so it prints less)? Yeah, that pushes my belt out so it's no longer really holding my pants up - and that does NOT help concealment.

303 I fluctuate between 3 different guns for concealed carry. A SIG P250 compact in .45, a S&W M&P 2.0 9mm, and a SIG P228 in 9mm. All fit very well in my Crossbreed IWB holster.

I lean more toward the P250 because in spite of the trigger pull being a week long, I hit everything I aim at out to 15 yds which is a distance I'm comfortable with engaging a target with confidence. Also, the stopping power of a JHP 230gr .45 is undeniable.

very short summation - how will the shooting be classified:
accidental? - no liability
negligent? - civil liability (wrongful death suit)
recklessness? - Criminal liability

It's the closest thing I have to a safe queen, and I had actually picked up a 1984 stainless steel, unfired Colt Python...that I then defiled by firing it. I was told that was very unusual. But i carried an extra for the rest of the time we used them and it was replaced by the M-16.

Sigh...

371 Looks like there's a lot of natural beauty in the Page area. Monument Valley is 2 to 2.5 hours away, and there's other national monuments as well, plus a few well-known chain motels that I don't think are outrageously expensive.

Does this appeal to anyone besides me? In the meantime, hmmm. Gonna have to give some serious thought to organizing something for 2022.

But, designing something that works for "dad bods" and such would certainly have a good market niche.

Shot my 422 a bit, SiDs S&W model 1917,and my 460 magnum. Steck was the only person other than me to shoot the 460. I am forever impressed.
All in all a GREAT WEEKEND!!!!
My deepest thanks to every single participant....

460 355 BTW, which of you Morons shooting rifles at 200 yds managed to take down the lower two strands of barb wire right behind the steel? Huh?!

Had to have been me, Red, since I was spraying Jak Sucio's ammo all around the 200yd target yet not actually hitting it much.

461 400 The drawing gifts were out of control this year! Sadly, I didn't see any of my stuff. Did I miss it? Who won the keychains and the necklace?
Posted by: Jewells45 at October 24, 2021 08:23 PM (nxdel)

I have one of the keychains safely squirreled away in my suitcase, ma'am.

462 Schnorfle, Rancher Bob just laughed about it and said his guy would take care of it.
I can't believe they have just ONE ranch hand to take care of 1200 acres.

In Texas, they understand the concept of work...

And fortunately for us Morons, they also understand the concept of play!

467 Well, 5 am wake up to depart Dallas and return to the far north. If I ever have to un-ass northern NH, TX is high on my list.

LOL. I have other priorities before doubling up on anything. I'd rather have 1 of these and 1 of those and 1 of that one over there and one of these too, than have 14 of those.

470 Thanks again to everyone who made TXMoMe happen again. I can't overstate how great this event is, and it keeps getting better every time. See y'all next year!

471 5am Monday and getting ready to point the WeaselMobile north. Have a great day everyone!

472 It sure was great to spend the short time I had with y'all at TXMoMe. I have never EVER been some place where the ladies just stepped right up to shoot a .44 magnum snubby. BOOM, flame, grass lays down....smiles. And that's the way it is.

473 I figured out why I don't comment much. I usually hit Ace three times per day (I've got the time...you saw me sorta walking!) but every time I comment from my iPhone I get errored out.
starting /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/cherrypy/_cprequest.py , line 670, in respond response.body = self.handler()
ON the porch, iPhone, too lazy to comment from the house.
