Saturday Afternoon Chess thread 10-16-2021

Isabelle Choko FRA 01.jpg
Isabelle Choko FRA

Moviegique will be along later with the movie thread. As always, the chess/dress pr0n thread is an open thread, so there is no such thing as an off-topic comment.

Pic Note:

Isabelle Choko was born in 1928 in Poland, where she spent a happy childhood. During the pogroms of the second world war she was sent to the Lódz Ghetto, and then to the Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps. She survived, typhoid stricken and weighing just 25 kg (55 lbs.), recovered in Sweden and finally found a home in France. There she nurtured her love for chess, and in 1956 she won the French Women's Championship. Amazingly, she is still alive - 93 years old. She must be one tough lady.

Note: that cryptic line of letters and numbers you see underneath each board diagram is a representation of the position in what is known as "Forsyth-Edwards Notation", or F.E.N. It's actually readable by humans. Most computer applications nowadays can read FEN, so those of you who may want to study the position, you can copy the line of FEN and paste into your chess app and it should automatically recreate the position on its display board. Or, Windows users can just "triple click" on it and the entire line will be highlighted so you can copy and paste it into your chess app.

___________

So that about wraps it up for this week. Chess thread tips, suggestions, bribes, rumors, threats, and insults may be sent to my yahoo address: OregonMuse little-a-in-a-circle yahoo dott com.

43 Chess lady is really cute. Not glamorous, not in my view-hot, but just adorable. Maybe people of that age who are in their right wits and don't have a major illness like cancer but went through very tough times (and no, I'm not comparing other tough situations to being in a concentration camp) are just tough, However, our organist is 93-amost 94 She was thrown out of car and had a fractured skull as a kid in the late 20's or early 30's. Then she got pneumonia and almost died as a kid. She's been close to death several other times as well. Still playing the organ every Sunday, God bless her.

By the way, someone suggested that I post some of my successful religious exemption statement on this thread. Miss Linda, the major author, would prefer not to do that. What I will do is post the essential points that she made, and perhaps that will inspire those of you who need a framework to begin on your own.

Last night's Dateline was interesting. It was about a cult leader who styled herself Mother God. Apparently, in earlier incarnations she had been Jesus, Cleopatra, and the Hawaiian volcano god Pele, among others. (Ironically, the only of her impersonations that got her into real trouble was her impersonation of Pele. Don't piss off Hawaiian pagans.). Anyway, she eventually decided she was Donald Trump's daughter. Also, she converted and spoke to dead celebrities such as Robin Williams.

65 The religious exemptions statement that I used began with, "I claim a religious exemption because of my deeply held beliefs." I gave a brief rundown of how I became a Christian. "God is the Creator of life," w/ a quote from Jeremiah.

Next came the detail about the vaccines all being made using fetal cell lines, that this was immoral, and that for me to profit from that would put my immortal soul at risk.

Next point, that since the vaccines all tinker with our RNA and DNA, this is usurping God's proper role as Creator and is idolatry. Thus you won't inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. Finally, I wound up with my statement of having been a loyal and even honored employee for a total of 27 years, and that I hoped we could reach an accommodation that would pose no hardship to either of us.

Maybe that will help you get started on your statement.

99 Update on my grandnephew Red. The good news is the hypokalemia seems to be under control, and the sepsis is improving. They will check on Monday to see if he needs another full dose of antibiotic.

The bad news is he does not seem to be aware - they mentioned something called sensorium. They are investigating whether there is something going on in the brain - did an MRI but haven't yet told the family what it says.

So your continued prayers are requested and deeply appreciated.

Also, on the fundraiser - because of the Paypal issue- some friends have offered to send me donations for me to wire to the family. If any of the horde also wish to do that, I can give you my venmo.
Just email me - votermom at g m a i l
They are grateful for any amount, specially as a lot of the tests are "pay first".

Ya know, the purpose of the shot requirement is to show that the State is your god and can force you to do self-harm because it is your lord and master. I don't think you need to be particularly devout in your beliefs to have a good reason to not serve the State as your god.

Of course, I believe that everyone should trust Christ Jesus to save them from sin and death and should serve Him with a glad heart all of their days. This is another good reason to not serve the State when the true God is the One we should serve.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke

No, she made headlines a year or so ago because when she died, her disciples drug her corpse around and worshipped it. Eventually, she was found in a followers bed in his bedroom which had been decorated with Christmas lights and what not to make it garishly holy.

They talked to several former followers and the thrust, I would say, is that even responsible, intelligent people can fall for this hokum. They mentioned that recruiting was good during the covid lockdown hysteria. Her spiel was all about peace, love, and understanding with UFOs, reincarnation, environmentalism, and a hodge podge of other new agey crap thrown in. I was surprised that she lowered herself to claim relation to Trump.

I posted this the other day. A speaker at the church I serve mentioned this woman, Alice Bailey, whom I didn't know about. She was born in the 1800's and died in the '40-a founder of New Age ideas. She had a plan to destroy Christianity many decades ago. Sounds familiar:

I've been musing as to this line of argument:
"I am pleased to see that you and I agree that we don't own our own body and conscience. Where we disagree is to who owns both our body and conscience. You believe that the State and your current employer jointly owns you as chattel and can freely dictate what they can do with your body and your conscience. I on the other hand have been purchased by Christ's blood to be His own, and to Him I serve. Your master believes that you are fundamentally unfit to live unless you are modified by this a constant stream of gene therapy. Whereas I am transformed by the Paraclete.

Oh, and also 'ELO' is actually a name, Arpad Elo, who invented the ratings calculation formula. While developed for chess, it's based purely on statistics and depends not at all on chess itself, so any one-on-one sport can use it to assess relative player strengths. I think pro tennis uses version of Elo ratings.

248 My company, (Raytheon) just sent out the Covid vaccine mandate by Dec 8th. In the email they specified we must take one of the 3 experimental ones that are not FDA approved.

I know of some dude who has/had a significant position at Raytheon, works remote, yet was informed of the "mandate" weeks ago to make a decision as to who owns his body. I think he and his family have moved out into the sticks to take a stab at self-sufficient living. His FiL is furious that he is leaving a good gig over something so simple as the mRNA injection.

I'm sure China would love to know what this guy knows - and his employer and his government is basically pushing him in to the arms of a foreign entity. Why be patriotic when your employer and your nation hates you?

283 Manchin is an "interesting" character. For decades upon decades West Virginia was (is) a Democrat stronghold based solely on the shoulders of the coal, and petro-chemical unions that employ the majority of the state's population.

When Obama came along their "racist" roots took hold and many of the electorate drifted right. I put racist in quotes because the majority of West Virginians aren't racist, but they're very suspicious of "outsiders." Obama was an outsider.

In 2016 they overwhelmingly voted for Trump over Clinton and much was made about the misogynic hicks in the hills. Clinton promised to close coal mines and rob the locals of their means to survive. A huge mistake.

Throughout this ordeal Manchin watched. He's a bullshitter and a leftist at heart, but I think he's seeing a bit more clearly these days. It won't stop him from siding with his leftist brethren, but it is giving him pause.

If the Democrats attack him he very well may jump ship.

Truth. Yet people like Manchin haven't been exposed to this. They've been background noise. A Democrat vote regardless of the topic. However things have changed politically for a lot of people on both sides of the so called aisle.

An effort is underway to consolidate power under the "UniParty" and it's making great strides. I find it interesting that there are people like Manchin and Sinema who are on the "other side" feeling some pangs of guilt while there's nobody on the GOP side with similar feelings.

I hate those stupid car alarms that make a huge racket. Nobody ever responds to them. First, because they false so often the default assumption on the part of bystanders is that the person entering the car is the owner, and second, even if they believe that person is a thief, nobody is going to try to confront a thief stealing somebody else's car.

The only car alarm to have is one that causes a pager in your own pocket to beep. Then you can rush out, and apply tire iron therapy to the miscreant.
