The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

Some rando on Twitter got this letter from his bank a couple of weeks ago:

meme 20211004 00

So here are my thoughts on this:

So this is an absolutely outrageous proposal for a number of reasons

--It is a gross invasion of privacy.

--It will add significantly to the bank's regulatory reporting workload, and would somebody please tell me why the government needs to know all this stuff?

--This is just another example of them running that new play in the left-wing playbook, the one where the government enacts petty tyrannies on the American people but outsources the enforcement of said tyrannies to the private sector.

--You know, getting others to do your dirty work for you is actually pretty dope.

Having said all of this, it is just a proposal. My personal opinion is that it is not so much a serious proposal as it is a Biden administration trial balloon. Right now, somebody in the White House is watching the reaction it's getting from the banks. Not sure what's going to come next, perhaps the same proposal, only with a higher number, like maybe $1200 or $2000.

Also notice how the bank really isn't committing itself to actually doing anything. It's just complaining about it, and giving their customers a website to go to so they can complain as well. I suppose that's all that can be done this stage. But is there any point where the bank would say "screw the feds, we're not complying"? And the answer is, no, probably not. Not that I blame them, really, they want to stay in business without a bunch of federal goons showing up one day and perp-walking the high-level execs to a PMITA prison.

I haven't heard one GOP(e) congressman or senator complain about this, yet, which is worrying

This is why it's laughable when they accuse Trump of being a fascist/dictator/tyrant. There are some things Trump wouldn't do. We know this because they were proposed and he didn't do them, things that he pointed out were the responsibility of the states. But I have seen no indication of anything that the Biden administration wouldn't do if they thought it would advance their agenda. I have seen no restraint at all. Nor any self-awareness from the Democrat idiots who shouted "fascist!" at Trump for nothing but who can't seem to recognize Biden's actual fascism when it's staring them right in the face.

Friday Who Dis: I'd bet there's not one of you who's been on this blog long enough to remember when the wild and chaotic personal life of actor Tom Sizemore provided ace with much merriment. See this old post, and this one, and especially this one. WARNING: Do not post comments on these old threads, pixy's automatic banhammer will squash you like a bug. I think Sizemore has cleaned up his act and is playing it straight nowadays, and good for him. But back then, he made Russell Crowe and Charlie Sheen look look like choirboys. He teamed with model/actress Katherine Heigl in the 2006 crime drama Zyzzyx Road. This film holds the record for the lowest box office gross in Hollywood history. Made for foreign release, it nevertheless had to have a domestic gross to comply with Screen Actors Guild's regulations. So they ran it for seven days in one theater, Highland Park Village Theater in Dallas, Texas, where it earned $20 in ticket sales. I think the only people who saw it were a couple of ticket-takers and an usher.

There are two kinds of companies, regardless of type:
1. Those that will ignore their customers or any honor to voluntarily cooperate with the government regardless of legality
2. Those that will volunteer nothing, but will comply with a lawful order or an order that appears lawful.

Most of Big Tech is in group 1, and I suspect that Citizen's State Bank is in group 2. There is no group three. There is no company that will break the law or disregard an order for you.

Keep that always in mind, and let it contextualize things like "cloud computing" and subscription services. There are companies that are not against you, but there are no companies that will protect your interests against a government order.

15 Hilariously, an idiot kid named Sammy Sussman is trying to cancel his theater professor at Michigan of playing a movie clip in class of Olivier as "Othello", the Sin Against Students being Olivier was in blackface make up (playing Othello).

Sussman picked the wrong target. This professor has seen major league cancelling in his youth and I doubt he is intimidated.

No, it falls elsewhere. This would be monitoring *all* transactions associated with accounts that exceed $600. The burden falls on the banks, not the transacting parties. And the compliance burden will be non-trivial but not as bad as it seems at first blush. All of this stuff is already computerized. The ledgers will have to be transformed to the appropriate format and transmitted. The work to make something out of the transaction flows will fall on the IRS and its big tech partners who will actually build out the system. The reporting itself will be automated and likely happen as a part of the nightly batch processing they all do every evening.

But we aren't taking your papers or effects without a warrant. Those aren't your papers. They're the bank's records of your transactions. Those belong to the bank, not to you, and different rules apply. Since all banking transactions interface with the Federal Reserve and other US government systems, the data are not considered private from the standpoint of the US government. Data is shared necessarily as a function of the transaction clearance role that banks perform and so this is not a Fourth Amendment issue.

It would be better sometimes to support the actions of a person at a particular time, rather than support the person.

Looks like its time for the Floyd Ferris quote:

"Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted -- and you create a nation of law-breakers -- and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."

134 I was on a small but powerful legal group representing UK's Big 8 Banks when the Payment Systems Directive 2 was being designed and deployed (also on the software architecture team - go figure).

The architecture team was all Gung Ho to do this, but the bank barristers were totally against it. Essentially PSD2 was the democratization of all personal banking transactions so that the customer could have ultimate control over who had access to what on all things banking.

The banks absolutely hated it, and every reason under the sun was provided. The bottom line is, it would cost the banks millions, the tech was expensive, and consumer banking information is highly valuable and the banks didn't want to give that information away.

This proposal by The Party is yet another multi-billion dollar theft of information that can and absolutely will be used in nefarious ways. Just as Facebook has monetized every social aspect of your life, The Party wants the same power, but over your financial life.

I think It will be used in two ways. First, there will be a lot of algorithmic analysis (so-called "AI") to pop exceptions - transaction flows where the system as programmed thinks you might be evading taxes by having unreported income streams (unusual deposit activity, living beyond your means per IRS sources, etc.). The false positive rate will be high and the number of people wronged through falsely-premised asset seizures, garnishments, freezes, etc. will be high as well.

The second area will be what you describe: you're interesting for some other reason to some part of the government, so go through your history and look for something they can use as an angle on you - especially if it can be bound to some other product of the surveillance state.

140 Having said all of this, it is just a proposal.

--

Isn't the '100 or more employees, then they all need full vaccination' still a proposal, for all intents and purposes? And we see how that's going. Company after company are starting to fall like dominoes in adhering to that ghastly and unconstitutional proposed mandate. It seems nobody is stopping this fascist freight train.

No.

A number of businesses have those signs here. They're doing that to comply with the governor's or mayor's edicts. If they put "request," ignore it. Ignore it even if they don't, and tell them you have a medical exemption.

Yes, absolutely. It allows the inversion of honor and the pursuit of what we have now. In a just system, the system investigates crimes to find and punish the perpetrators.

In an unjust system, the system investigates people to find crimes they have committed and then punish those people.

We now have the latter system. It has happened in the past, too, of course - but the ability to do so required a serious commitment to destroying the target. It was hard. With their ever-growing panopticon, it has become easier. For the federal government, it is becoming the normal mode of operation.

182 The $600 is a way to attack the underground economy that doesn't pay taxes. In years past, it was talk about going to a cashless society. The year I closed the bookstore, I had a massive going out of business sale that included a lot of fixtures, and I ran a bunch of transactions through PayPal, enough that PayPal sent me some sort of form I had to submit with that year's income taxes so the government could make sure I reported all that income.

The XO and I were considering selling the house and moving into a moderate income 55+ apartment complex. We both nearly flipped when we received the application. Since the complex received some sort of government tax break or support, they demanded an accounting of every penny we owned, up to and including what was in my PayPal account or any other such cash transaction accounts we might have. That financial proctology, among a couple other drawbacks, made us decide to keep the house for a few more years.

$600 is a tell. That's the 1099 reporting limit. Yellen preposterously claims that this new scheme is to catch high-net-worth tax cheats, but that is absurd on its face. This - beyond growing the panopticon for its own sake, which I think is the real purpose - is about finding the guys working odd jobs, the waiters not reporting tips, the lady running an eBay store or working the flea market circuit, etc. It's to squeeze the guys operating on the margins and extract as much money as possible from them while also making their lives hell.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced a cautious plan to ease lockdown restrictions in Auckland, despite an outbreak there that continues to simmer.

Since early in the pandemic, New Zealand had pursued an unusual zero-tolerance approach to the virus through strict lockdowns, aggressive contact tracing, and the prohibition of the transport of mass quantities of KFC.

It could be that except for national media, normal Americans are done with Covid porn. The national media can't stand that their #1 issue to peddle fear since Trump might go away, along with some ratings, so that's understandable.
But football and baseball stadiums are packed, people are out and about, they're at the point of going back to "normal" even if it kills them, so that's good.

291 The twats at Twitter censured an obit of a young mother of two who died from vaccine side effects. She was a healthy, normal-weight woman who didn't want the vaccine, because she knew she faced little threat from the virus. But she couldn't go to her kids' school, she couldn't continue to be a home room mom, or any of her other daily activities if she remained one of the evil unvaxxed. So she caved, took the vaccine, and died a few days later from thrombolytic something-or-other -- basically, blood clots, a known side effect of the vaccine.

Her friend wrote on obit on Twitter, which Twitter censors then labeled as "misleading" and prevented from being re-tweeted. There were no incorrect facts in the obit -- the young woman did indeed die as a direct result of the vaccine she didn't want. The twats at Twitter just didn't like the obit's opinion that the woman should not have been forced to take the vaccine.

The article was on the Daily Mail site earlier this morning. It has since been removed.

Those are the classic symptoms of Zinc overdose.

Min dosage is 11mg a day. Try 20mg. If you have capsules you will have a problem dividing them. Try the pill form. You may have to buy to find out what format it's in but Zinc seems to come in pill form.

It can cause problems with kidneys and a copper imbalance.

Next time you see your primary care phys ask for a blood test of the minerals and vitamins in your system. Usually most insurance will pay for that once a year. And/or on prescription by physician.

326 The current proposal by Biden Administration to have the Federal government track all financial transactions of $600 or more is essentially a backhanded way for the Feds to nationalize the banking system. An over arching theme of the UniParty is to nationalize as many aspects of regulation and society as possible. Defunding the police is not about getting rid of police; it is about collapsing local police and thus creating a law enforcement void that must be filled and in this case at the Federal level. A similar augment can be made about the $3.5 trillion "infrastructure" bill; it is about collapsing individual liberty and replacing it with cradle to grave a Federal welfare state.

More amounts of zinc are needed to ease the way for anit-virals to enter the cells, so the larger amounts are for when someone thinks they have flu or covid and are trying to stay ahead of or slow down cell replication.
