A Wisconsin teen sued after being threatened with jail over an Instagram post - and won.

Though Joseph Conrad is a great name for a sheriff.

1 I am using the free one from (that site). It is funny that one link is banned but the others are ok. I used express VPN with no problems other than you have to pay that man his money. I am still not sure why I use them but all those in the know say you should.

I have used my regular isp here so long that whoever wants to find it can likely do it easily. Everyone on the net says VPN's are a good call. At some point I am going to go with it simply because I can.

9 Robert Conrad played James West on the TV, and later an execrable performance portraying "Pappy" Boyington as a flight leader about a WWII Black Sheep squadron, and also dared you to knock a battery off his shoulder (Eveready, Duracell? Who knows, too lazy to look it up)

Bill Conrad played Matt Dillon on (Radio) Gunsmoke for several years. Everything else he did probably sucked really badly. He was passed over for the TV version, which he probably didn't take very well. In fact none of the radio cast was selected for the TV version. You can hear radio advertisements of him telling listeners to be sure to tune in and watch the new TV version of Gunsmoke, "I know you're going to like it." That must have been really tough to swallow.

16 we can't allow grammar to become a thing here. The Cobs and ace write well, some of them are freaking amazing. But to go after the posts is just stupid. We know what we mean and that is all the matters. Whoever brought up grammar is opening a bag of worms they don't want to go into. I can get sober and write perfectly if not with aplomb. But we can call out many who wouldn't know a political thought or historical fact if their lives depended on it. I say let it go and pretend this never happened.

18 it wasn't this thread, it was another one. The grammar fight is well below us. Anyone can do it and it doesn't make you interesting. If someone calls me out on grammar i will laugh. If they do it again, I might just start speaking French, Italian, or Spanish. And I assure you, my grammar will be terrible. I would only do it to vex them.

19 Mornin', all,

Up early and trying to force myself to go exercise. It's cool outside, I hate to waste that, but breakfast sounds much more appealing.

Anybody ever have trouble with buying stuff on Etsy? I've ordered a pipe using a Cap One credit card, plenty of headroom left on it, never had trouble before, and my first order was turned down. The seller is very communicative and doesn't know why it's happened. I've put it through again. But any idea why this should happen?

20 Son had a rough game last night. At bat four times, struck out three. Coach took him out of the lineup afterwards.

Posted by: Jmel at September 26, 2021 04:46 AM (bVhJi)

21 William Conrad was one of the great voices and later presences on TV. His was the voice you hear at the start and end of The Fugitive episodes, for example ("In that darkness, Fate moves Its huge hand . . ."). He was also, astonishingly, the narrator for The Bullwinkle Show! He was also a director of a couple of movies and TV shows, and a producer. Later he would play Cannon, TV's first overweight detective hero, Nero Wolfe, and one of the leads in Jake and the Fat Man.

I suspect he wasn't cast as Matt Dillon because TV and movie producers then wanted more classically handsome actors for their leads. Conrad was tubby and balding -- perfect as Cannon, but hard for TV Western viewers to absorb as a U.S. marshal hero.

keep at it. I gave up baseball for reasons as they say. I kept getting whisked away to other locales, and some of if was my own doing. I liked leaving places and trying out anew. Looking back, it was probably a mistake but you can't change who you are.

My greatest regret was not continuing with baseball. I love that game. I went into golf and reached the collegiate level. It was nothing great but I loved the game in a way few do. But looking back, it was baseball. I wish I never dropped that sport. Not everyone can keep advancing, but damn if that is the the best sport to play imo.

24 William Conrad was also in the film of The Killers w/ Burt Lancaster. He's the guy who warns Charlton Heston about the army ants in The Naked Jungle.

The only other anecdote I've read about him was that, on Bullwinkle, he wanted to play more characters. Jay Ward turned him down, saying that Bill Conrad always sounded like Bill Conrad, and couldn't alter his voice and style enough for other characters. That might have been true, or it might have just been Ward's perception.

25 Matt Dillon is a very underrated actor. He has done some indie stuff that will blow you away. BTW,I hope everyone gets i was joking around with the Conrad stuff. That is a standard trope. But we run out of Conrads pretty quick.

To this day when I hear the words "Matt Dillon," I think James Arness, not the lanky actor who played Nicole Kidman's ill-fated husband in To Die For. I guess if you grew up after Gunsmoke left regular TV, you'd have no trouble with his name.

Conrads? There was also Michael Conrad, who gained his final fame playing the roll-call sergeant on Hill Street Blues ("Let's be careful out there!").

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 26, 2021 05:00 AM (c6xtn)

28 James Arness also had an actor brother, Peter Graves of Mission Impossible

39 I've been using AirVPN for a few years now, and I'm pretty happy with the service. They keep adding servers around the world, so if one gets bogged down with traffic, it's easy enough to connect to another that has low latency and plenty of bandwidth available. Plus, no DNS leaks (that I've been able to tell, using several leak detectors).

43 Make sure that your VPN allows for connection to Switzerland servers. If it does, then you have at least a fighting chance. Switzerland is one of the small handful of countries that do not participate in the international treaty giving govs access to their servers. Ie: if its good enough to keep uncle sam et al's prying eyes somewhat out, then it has a decent enough chance of keeping hackers/etc prying eyes out. Nothing is fool proof. Just saying that it improves your odds at least. VyprVPN is one. Do your research for other VPNs.

45 That VPN guy did exhaustive research on the top 60 or so VPN's. The only ones who do not keep records or have any sharing agreement with any country are based in the Seychelles. When I filtered down to what I was looking for it came down to those 3. I chose TrustZone, and have been extremely happy with them. Fast, affordable, probably about 100 different servers worldwide. I use it on my computer and my android phone too.
