I was done with Mozilla when they pushed out Brendan Eich. You don't want to deal with people who have different politics? That's fine - neither do I, then.

Of course, it wasn't much of a sacrifice since I'd uninstalled Firefox years earlier. There were a lot of web pages it simply wouldn't render properly, and beyond that it would sometimes lock up my PC, and occasionally wipe my settings when it did. I don't need to look at the code to know it's bad.

I don't have much love for Google as a company, but Chrome is really a very good browser.

Back home, and used my alarm clock and my seersucker robe for the first time in more than 2 weeks. Seems odd in some ways, perfectly normal in others. I need to work out today, to fill up the car and hit the grocery, and visit my office briefly to pick up a couple of things. Plus do some remote work, and inform my boss that I'm back. We may have a Zoom meeting today.

Life. It's better than the alternative.

Around here, when they were adding subdivisions and strip malls to every thru road, they also added traffic lights. Traffic lights that no matter the traffic conditions will turn red and stop 10 cars on the main road so that one car, that could have made a right turn on red easily enough, to now lead the pack of cars to the next subdivision stop light.....

It was designed by a teenager in his bedroom to be fast and nimble. It became the opposite. Every time I started it i was either forced to update or had to click through the new update splash screen.

61 Firefox is excellent at being a browser you keep around in case you ever want to check a website in something else besides Chrome/Chromium, IE, Safari, or whatever, to see if it's actually broken or if it's just you. Pretty shit at anything else though. I'd already stopped using it full-time around when they fired Brendan Eich, that was all I needed to ditch it entirely. You're not good enough at your actual job to piss off that many people, Firefox.

Which was the desired effect. Some time ago there was this app called "Instagram" that only ran on iOS devices. All the cool kids with iPhones were able to do things that the losers using other platforms couldn't do.

Then it changed and was available on Android. And the weeping an wailing from the pretentious iPhone crowd was heard across the land - they wanted their tribal exclusivity.

So when you got rid of Firefox, the crybullies that remained, unable to understand how a balance sheet works, cheered because their product was shedding off undesirables and "Nazis".
