The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

Here is the text of Biden's employer-mandate announcement for vaccinations:

My job as president is to protect all Americans. So tonight I'm announcing that the Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees, that together employ over 80 million workers, to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week. Some of the biggest companies are already requiring this: United Airlines, Disney, Tyson's Foods -- and even Fox News. The bottom line -- we're going to protect vaccinated workers from unvaccinated coworkers.

In the immortal words of Vinnie Gambini: "Everything that guy just said is bullshit."

Let's take this one piece at a time:

My job as president is to protect all Americans.

Well, yes. Then why did your administration basically open the gates wide on our southern border, permitting hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants to come pouring into our country. And why are you flying in tens of thousands of unvetted Afghani refugees and resettling them in swing states? Neither of these sound like protection to me. In fact, it sounds like you're just trying to make America a lot less protected.

So tonight I'm announcing that the Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule...

I always cringe when I hear you or any other politician use the word "emergency" like your chief concern is public safety. Which I don't think is true. What you're chiefly concerned with is maintaining and extending your power. Because when you use the word "emergency", it always comes with the hidden clause "...so we can get to do whatever we want." This doesn't pass the constitutional smell test, particularly not at the federal level. Also, who gets to decide what constitutes an "emergency"? Why, the very group who is using it to seize power, that's who.

...to require all employers with 100 or more employees, that together employ over 80 million workers, to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week.

All you're doing here is just outsourcing your tyranny to the private sector, which I guess has been all the rage the past few years. You know there's a name for this, don't you? The combination of state power connected with private corporate interests is called (let me spell it out for you) f a s c i s m. It's funny how the Democrats continually shrieked during Trump's term that he was a fascist despite his deferring to state governor on numerous occasions, and now when you have an example of straight-up fascism staring you right in the face, suddenly you're OK with it.

Oh wait, I forget, it's an "emergency". So the president gets to assume dictatorial powers. By the way, there's a danger here that if you let the government do whatever it wants in an "emergency", then it will create "emergencies" so it can do whatever it wants. Have you ever thought about that?

Some of the biggest companies are already requiring this: United Airlines, Disney, Tyson's Foods -- and even Fox News.

Well then, if everybody's doing it, then why do we need an "emergency" decree? And I can see your scriptwriters high-fiving each other and should out "SICK BURRRRRNNN!" when Fox News was included on the list, but do you know what group has the highest percentage of unvaxed members? African Americans. And most of them are Democrats. Last I heard, only 24% of African Americans had received the jab, so you're aiming your taunts the wrong group.

The bottom line -- we're going to protect vaccinated workers from unvaccinated coworkers.

So in other words, you're not going to protect *all* Americans as you originally said, you're just trying to divide Americans into two groups and set them against each other. Gin up even more hate and rage, because that's what this country needs right now.

But if you were actually interested in getting the unvaccinated to change their mind, perhaps scolding them, taunting them, bullying them, and shaming them is going to turn out to be counterproductive. With that in mins, this Atlantic article, Stop Death Shaming (mocking the unvaccinated dead does not save lives), suggests what might be a better way: persuasion.

...it’s worth considering what an honest persuasion effort aimed at the unvaccinated or vaccine-hesitant would look like, even if we may never see the population-level vaccine uptake that we’d like to. Good-faith persuasion is a matter of discipline and habit; it’s not something that comes naturally. It also happens to be a practice that maintains the premise that liberal democratic politics can change, that they can respond to the shifting will of the people without violence or civil unrest. Perhaps we’ve already come near that point through lopsided, bitter polarization. But inasmuch as democracy is a shared vision—a collaborative dream about the kind of governance we’re capable of and the sort of future we could build—it’s crucial to keep its practices alive even when its functions have broken down. The dream is the last thing to go.

And so: What would a genuine persuasion effort look like, with respect to vaccines?

It would begin by examining what the unvaccinated say about their hesitancy to get their shots—by inhabiting their point of view, in other words, honestly and seriously.

In other words: listen to them. Don't succumb to the temptation to think "oh, they're just listening to the disinformation broadcast by Fox News" and write them off. I know it's fun sport within the Beltway to make fun of the rubes, but tuning out half of America is probably not a good idea.

So it is the vaccinated that need the tests most of all ... but of course, it is not about science or developing immunity ... Obey or face the wrath of their fully functional death star.

This is standard for social-media addicts. They are physically incapable of speaking a sentence without adding in loads of escape clauses, gotcha gambits, and trigger-word psychobabble. So many unstated presuppositions and tribal-speak, and anything that's removed from the propagated talking points gets received like the speaker has two heads.

Many people don't have the slightest idea that they're speaking in this weaselly way, but when you're baking in propaganda 24/7, you eventually forget what normal human communication sounds like.

It was very clever, you've got to give them that. OSHA requires the federal regulations be in effect in all 57 states, and if states want to run their own show they can, but it has to be equal to the federal regulations.

Not to mention that the article still fails to see the forest for the trees. They talk about how side effect concerns haven't been rigorously demonstrated. What has, with these shots or even the COVID phenomenon writ large? The author in the piece discusses - sort of - the real underlying root cause: trust. There's a sop to "a third don't trust government" with a limp "me too" tacked on (which is clearly untrue).

You want to persuade me? Good. I am not unreasonable, but how can you persuade me? To persuade requires evidence constructed into an argument. Evidence requires either firsthand knowledge that I don't have or sources I trust, which don't exist. Persuade how, in the absence of trust?

106 As Jeff Dunetz over at THE LID says; what better way to get those who will defy government, be uncooperative with state officials, be the focus of protests for anti government rallies and projects than by making them announce themselves and then leave their place of work perhaps to not work again as this mandate will cover most all places that they may be able to find work in their chosen field/expertise.

I've been wondering about that myself that this would be an excellent way for them to find out who will be their opponents and who need suppressing over just doing it to everyone. This makes the Aussies look positively pro individuals as they are tyrannizing everyone with not favorites.

This had better be put down and put down fast by the Republicans because they're going to find that their choices in the next few months will determine if they go the way of their predessors the Whigs because if they won't fight this (no matter what it takes regardless of what the court rules) then they're of no use to anyone who would've voted for them.

And even after Oprah's "researcher" she used to launch the anti-vax movement admitted he lied, they spent years reaching out to wine moms and no-GMO types.

And they are for shots that were decades old with known, minimal side effects.

The clot shots have something like 10,000 more adverse events then any vaccine since the government started tracking this date. And appear to be launching us on a Marek's disease course. But, yes lets ignore science and history and just jab everyone. Now.

++++
Doubt. There is, I suspect, a real psychological need for universal vaccination. A lot of folks out there are probably doubting their choices. Some of the better informed will see problems with side effects, especially in the young. Some will see the Israeli and UK data showing that the vaccines wane quickly. Some will see *increased* severity and mortality rates in the vaccinated who suffered breakthrough infection. The less well-informed ones will see their unvaccinated friends and neighbors moving on with life and not dying, either. This is going to cause cognitive dissonance and anger.

There are two ways to remove that doubt and the bad feelings that come with it. One is to acknowledge, "this may have been a mistake and it makes me angry that I was scared into it." The other is to demand that everyone else make that mistake, too and thus absolve yourself.

Just a guess, but I have seen that kind of phenomenon before at a much smaller scale.

Without this issue, they'd have to come up with something else, but this plays on the fears of the "enlightened liberal" like nothing else.

159 CDC estimates that 1/3 of the U.S., or around 125 million people, have had the China virus and recovered, and so have naturally-acquired immunity.

Multiple studies, including one from Israel (the most highly-vaccinated country) report that naturally-acquired immunity is more robust and lasts significantly longer than the limited protection afforded by the vaccines.

Fauci, when asked why the many millions of Americans with naturally-acquired immunity should be forced to get vaccinated, could not come up with an answer.

But yeah, the only possible reason that Americans might not want to subject themselves to an experimental vaccine that has already killed thousands and has never been subjected to long-term testing, is because they're ignorant, stupid, conspiracy-minded, Fox-watching Rethuglicans who want to kill grandma!

Posted by: TrivialPursuer at September 13, 2021 10:46 AM (k4dH2)

160 I've been wondering that too. I think the left just doesn't think, they just react. If they stepped back a second and thought it through, they'd be against the vaccine.

The left after Jan 2021: Anyone that has ANY doubts about the jabs is a science hating racist that should be killed.

165 If the vaccine provided non-sterilizing protection, it would be "protecting the unvaccinated from the vaccinated."

If the vaccine provided sterilizing immunity, no one would need to be protected from anyone else.

The only way the vaccinated need to be protected from the unvaccinated is in the event of an Antibody Dependent Enhancement, which basically makes the vaccine a bioweapon.

"It's like being in a fight with Mohammed Ali-- you can have your hands up blocking the punches, but eventually one is going to get through."

I've received an offer for a very significant promotion in both duties and responsibilities and salary for a job I would be good at and likely enjoy. I sincerely believe this offer to be one of those 'once-a-career opportunities, and it will absolutely make me professionally. It's in Las Vegas. I live in Virginia.

I have two small kids (he's six, she's five), they live with their mom full-time. She and I have a civil/cordial relationship and are good co-parents if bad spouses. My kids and I have a fantastic relationship

Taking this job would require me to leave my kids and see them very infrequently, whereas I see them almost daily now. I know nothing about the area other than that I can easily afford to live there.

Just ask yourself if you can handle being a lonely old man in your 70s with your children hating you.

Evaluate very carefully the relationship of you and your children and judge whether it could change and if it does what will you feel depending on what choice you make. Most children do NOT remain close to their parents. Some more than others but they will have their own lives to lead AND may be guided by a parner who does not feel the same as them about parents and YOU.

Depends on how much money and what guarantees come with the position. I once moved with no guarantees and they took me out of the position I moved for and made me do something I was barely physically able to do within 6 months. I had to quit and wound up unemployed or employed erratically for 2 years.

Life can come at you hard and what facts you gathered to make your decision could change tomorrow for reasons outside your ability to change.

As a boy I fought polio. Today, America's been polio-free for 40 years thanks to vaccination. We'll beat COVID-19 with vaccines too. Protect yourself and your family. Get vaccinated.

If COVID-19 were as bad as polio, this statement wouldn't be necessary or justified. There'd be riots to *get* the shot, not to oppose being forced to do so.

Apparently when Charro first shows up in US: both her Spanish and US paperwork says born in 1941.

Later she claims that was a mistake, she was born in 1947.

She married Cugat in 1966 (he was 60 and she now claims it was a business transaction to get her into the US) and they told the papers she was 20.

Later she claims birth year was 1949.

Then later she claims birth year 1951.

If the very first date she gave was correct, she was born 1941 which makes her 80?

328 The current argument that we have been vaccinating one another for decades for this or that reason and why not for COVID19 is completely specious, and here is why:

1) the "vaccine" isn't. It is "gene therapy". It contains no COVID virus, dead or otherwise.
2) COVID19 is a man made pathogen, a bioweapon, unlike smallpox, measles, rubella, etc.

And they treated it honestly. The initial Salk vaccine worked, but it was non-sterilizing. That's a problem and it slowed the rollout. The second vaccine (the oral one) was sterilizing but could, in rare cases, give you polio.

The initial solution was to give you both. First the Salk, then the oral. The Salk protected you from the oral, which gave you sterilizing behavior. They eventually got this down to one shot that worked across the board. But they didn't say, "fuck it, make everyone get the Salk shot and damn the consequences."

I mean this with all the love in the world, but it is time for you to seriously reconsider your priorities in this life.

First, how in the world do you have a good co-parenting relationship with your ex-wife, but that wasn't good enough to give your children a two-parent household?

Second, leaving all of them behind for the sake of money may be the final nail in the coffin for your relationship with them. It starts as a two-year stint, and before you know it, three, four and five years in, they've already almost grown up and are thinking about things a lot more - and it's too late.

With 99% certainty, yes. His birthday lines up with Christmas, hers is in July. I'd expect to be home at for at least those times.

But missing day-to-day life when they're so little is a steep price to give them financial security.

384 Taking this job would require me to leave my kids and see them very infrequently, whereas I see them almost daily now. I know nothing about the area other than that I can easily afford to live there.
How do I even begin to make this choice?

When my son was a year old I was offered a high growth position that would have immediately quadrupled my salary with the requirement for traveling nearly 100 percent of the time. Rejected it outright and twenty-five years later, am still glad I did so.

386 No, jackwagon, your job isn't to protect all Americans. Your job is to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Remember, the oath you took that you've twice confessed to violating?

A virus is a virus, not an enemy to be defeated by the government.
