Biden '75: Kabul Will Fall In Days, as Taliban Terrorists, Carrying Abandoned US Weaponry, Set For Final Take-Back of the Country

Meanwhile, Biden' has already called a lid and head to Wilmington for his "vacation" -- vacation from what? he doesn't work past noon most days -- as Kabul falls.

bidensaigon.jpg

Four more provincial capitals fell yesterday, bringing the total of provincial capitals under Taliban control to 17. 17 of the 34 capitals. Half.

And they control two-thirds of the country as far as physical acreage.

The Taliban completed their sweep of the country’s south on Friday as they took four more provincial capitals in a lightning offensive that brought them closer to Kabul, just weeks before the U.S. is set to officially end its two-decade war.

In just the last 24 hours, the country's second- and third-largest cities -- Herat in the west and Kandahar in the south-- have fallen to the insurgents as has the capital of the southern province of Helmand, where American, British and NATO forces fought some of the bloodiest battles of the conflict.

The blitz through the Taliban's southern heartland means the insurgents now hold half of Afghanistan's 34 provincial capitals and control more than two-thirds of the country -- weeks before the U.S. plans to withdraw its last troops. The Western-backed government in the capital, Kabul, still holds a smattering of provinces in the center and east, as well as the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

They're only fifty miles outside the capital.

And Kabul will fall within days -- not the month Biden's hacks had previously claimed.

Idrees Ali
@idreesali114

U.S. officials say there is increasing concern that the Taliban could make a move on Kabul in a matter of days. The assessment of potentially encircling in 30 days appears to be obsolete now.

But President Double Fudge has called it a lid and lammed it out to his safe space in Delaware, and the Administration refuses to schedule a briefing.

But yes, the media won't cover or promote bad news for Biden, and the Biden Administration knows that. They'll just pretend the crisis away.

@JulianRoepcke

The #Taliban not only seized appr. a hundred US humvees and (MaxxPro) MRAPs at Kunduz airport, but also several US ScanEagle drones.
Billions of US tax payer $ going to Islamist extremists, thanks to the administration's hasty withdrawal without a peace deal or follow up mission.

The sheer amount of vehicles raises the question if anyone ever used them after they were paid and transferred by the US ...
Now every Taliban fighter gets his own Ford, Toyota, Humvee or MRAP.

8 I will again note the irony that if the Pentagon had simply followed orders, this would be Trump's mess, not Biden's.

Trump can sit on the sidelines and talk big about his plan would have been so much better, and the left won't be able to counter with much of anything other than Rhees.

9 They aren't terrorists at this point. Sure, they use a lot of terrorist tactics, but it's clear now that the Taliban is Afghanistan's - the real Afghanistan, not the puppet state - regular army. They could not be progressing this fast if they were opposed. Their pace means that they are unopposed. If they are unopposed, then they are welcomed. If they are welcomed, they are desired.

The Taliban is the government that the people of Afghanistan want. Let them have it.

16 I'm just going to repost my comment from the prior thread. It's on this topic.

It just demonstrates that the problem wasn't the Taliban. The progress they're making - if it's real - is only because people are willing to let them do so. They have to be fought off with heavy weapons for every inch of territory, but the moment you leave they come right back and do so quickly and without apparent effort.

So what does that tell you? It tells me that the *people* of Afghanistan are down with the Taliban, are happy to have them, and are welcoming them back. They certainly aren't interfering. So the problem is the people and population at large, not those nasty Taliban fighters who are oppressing them.

TL;DR: nation-building was a stupid idea without vanquishing the population first.

18 Styx had an interesting take on this, that when Biden admin unilaterally said it would not honor the Trump-negotiated withdrawal date in May (so that they could withdraw on 9/11/21 for the political optics), it gave the Taliban the social capital it needed to recruit and get the support of the local population. Reneging on the withdrawal was bad optics IN AFGHANISTAN and may have strengthened the Taliban offensive.

I can see why we would abandon equipment during a withdrawal. A lot of it is hard to move and heavily-used (worn out, or close to it) and has to be moved in-country and then shipped back home at titanic expense that is likely not justified by the retained value of the equipment or its replacement cost.

So I can get that. It looks wasteful and it probably is, but money also talks. What I cannot fathom, however, is why any abandoned equipment wasn't scuttled. Our withdrawal wasn't *that* hasty or disorderly. Every piece of equipment left behind should have been destroyed - holes in the engine blocks, sand in the transmissions, weapons crushed, etc. Leaving *functional* equipment behind - even if it isn't worth it to remove it back home - is so insane I can't wrap my head around it.

MPPP made this sobering point when I said something similar a few weeks (?) ago - when the US military is given the command to pacify the "deplorable/insurrectionist" population, they won't have such restrictive ROEs.

Something to think about.

It was done as well as could be expected but the fight was on between the different clans for control of the seaport and airport...whoever controlled those, controlled the city and made the money.
I suspect the fighting around the Kabul airport will be nasty and if we are smart, we'll leave sooner rather than later.

I'm probably lonely on this one. I don't really see this as a Biden administration problem. Losing A'stan has been inevitable at least ten (ten!) years now. This is a Democrat problem, it's mostly an Obama problem, and to a lesser extent, it's a Bush problem. It's not a Trump problem - he tried to get out already, and I guarantee he'd have done a better job of losing in Afghanistan than this.

But this day, when radical Islamist tribesmen regain control of this country as we retreat in ignominious defeat, has been the endpoint for a long time, now. I just can't throw it all on Biden's handlers.

200 Oh, I know. Less than a year after we got HMMWVs in the mid-80s, we started having problems with the front wheels literally falling off, because the front CV joint boot would get torn and let debris in to degrade the joint.

It's a lot of fun when you're riding in the battalion commander's Hummer and the front right wheel assembly just flies off at 30mph deep in the woods.
Posted by: IllTemperedCur at August 13, 2021 11:42 AM (n+4am)

That has nothing to do with the CV and everything to do with the spindle clamp nut. The "axle" for the HMMWV/H1 is about.. ohh 8" long. It goes through the geared hub and is attached on the backside with a clamp nut with a locking screw. The re-installation instructions of that nut are VERY specific including a time limit on the entire torqueing process (has to be done within 10 minutes or you have to start over). If its not done properly there's a 100% chance that the wheel will fly off at speed.
The H1 community solved this issue of course with Stage 8 locking spindle nuts but the military? Well, the nuts are $125 a piece and they don't want to pay that much for a soldier's life I guess.

There are ways to run a functional empire/trading zone/area of influence but the US effectively cannot use those methods due to American exceptionalism. I mean this as no offense to SMH and many, many other ex-military on this blog, but I can't pin this on the military-industrial complex, but the military itself. What in the [redacted] has the US Military been doing for the past 15-20 years? You can take someone from the mountains of WV and make them into a Ranger or a SEAL, but you spend $90 billion a year and you can't make an Afghani into a soldier? And you don't sound an alarm when you see that they're not capable? What kind of smoke have you been blowing up the orifices of your most ardent supporters over the last decade-plus?
And you take that goodwill and use it to poop on these same supporters, calling them domestic terrorists?

I'm sorry, it's high-time we take a hard look at defunding these idiots. I can't believe I'm even thinking this, much less typing it out, but the military belongs in the same class as the teachers unions.

Nobody analyzed the new thoughtless lefty tic too much, which is completely continuous w/ the cosplay handmaids during I Like Beer's confirmation.

Then after 9/11, because Gore wasn't POTUS, Democrats and Air America abruptly dropped the insult and wanted to go on fact-finding missions and break bread with Pathan warlords, etc. I think this discredited their party on natsec, a point to which it'd take the Republicans another 7 years to catch up.

In the meantime there's a generation of NPC liberal to come up with no memory of that. I wonder what is *their* Rorschach-blot reaction to the fearsome T Boys (which means "students," ha). 324 You can blame what passes for military leadership nowadays, the woke idiots in our 'intelligence" agencies and a conga line of civilians. That goes across both parties, btw. One thing you can bet, which is going to hurt the military and Pentagon brass the most, is the days of Republicans giving DoD a blank check is largely over. They've turned the tide against themselves with the last year or so of garbage. The fact they are losing virtual engagements, lost Afghanistan and really haven't done shit in years shows you they are more interested in a cushy retirement job with a think tank or defense contractor then winning wars. May be they should spend less time with their university commies, trying to earn their accolades and more time on their vocation, which is protecting our country, something they don't seem willing or able to do..

Posted by: Y5 at August 13, 2021 12:08 PM (OxjVW)

The Soviets were as stupid as our international leftists are. They actually thought they could go in and make a communist paradise of the place, plus they wanted to set up military installations to enable them to make a move on the middle eastern oilfields. (they thought) China doesn't have any need to invade, they just want some of the shit that can be found in the mountains there. You've got to remember that China is completely free from even the faintest bits of morality or decency, which makes a lot of deals quite easy for them.

There are certain hard truths that history teaches us about military affairs among other things. Unfortunately, a military of a country is a reflection of society and once that society goes sour, then the military will reflect it just like every other institution.

That is essentially why only a sharp sudden shock can cause the reforms needed because virtually every institution in a sick society has to be reformed down to the local code enforcement officer.

I don't necessarily agree. But what I will say is that largely the NCO's and troopers don't reflect the ethos of most of their leadership. The GO's level and field grades are mostly a bunch of incompetent idiots more concerned with rising in the ranks and pleasing their liberal academia friends then being competent at warfighting. DoD is even worse and it's been overrun by people's personal politics. Their is no focus on the mission of warfighting. It's all about social control and making sure your pet projects get funded. The entire thing is sickening. My only hope is that people start to make them own disasters like this, and the GOP grows a set of balls and starts cutting their funding until they focus on the fucking job.

The left projects. They also fantasize. No doubt, they though that by avoiding anything Orange Man had done, and by doing it their way on their timeline, it was automatically a win. They also thought they'd be sending some sort of message about peace and love in our lifetime by undoing all the bad things that happened since that horrific day, and 9/11 is coincidentally the date they began losing their collective shit. What they've accomplished is exactly the opposite of what Trump would have done, yet they projected exactly what they've done on him. Brilliant. Psychologists will be studying this for decades to come, if there are any.

442 Marcus T,
Depends on which part of the military that you are discussing. There is still some in the lower ranks that are capable, just as some cops are capable in bad urban police departments. But, eventually, the good will leave for a variety of reasons and the bad will take over. Even the competent apolitical types simply cannot do their jobs over time as Maoism becomes the primary focus rather than tasks.

There is a reason that Mao was forced by the PLA to kill his own Cultural Revolution and that was because the people used to fighting and killing in the Revolution still had control over the military and they had the power to issue Mao an ultimatum, either the Cultural Revolution goes bye bye or Mao would. Right now, I do not see the hardened fighters in the upper uniformed military ranks necessary to force the Maoists in the Govt in intel, DOJ, DHS, and civilian political/military leadership to take a coup seriously.

There is always a fraction of humanity even in backward countries that yearn for what can be called the Enlightenment. The problem is that roughly the same number would gladly put others to the sword in order to have power over others. The remaining souls, simply want to live their life and will adopt whatever is necessary to survive.

The people in a society that adopt the Enlightenment values are always at risk from the sociopaths wanting power and the mass of the general population that will accept whoever wins the power game.

Posted by: whig at August 13, 2021 12:40 PM (pO7gM)
