The Quotes of The Day

Quote II

"I'm sorry I know people must like to have their individual freedom… but I think that we're in such a serious situation now, that under certain circumstances, mandates should be done." Anthony Fauci, MD

Quote II

“It’s unclear if the sperm changes that take place due to marijuana use are reversible and if there’s a specific amount of time required to achieve sperm recovery following the discontinuation of marijuana smoking. Much more research as randomized studies are needed to gain a full understanding of the relationship between marijuana and male reproductive health.” Tulane assistant professor of urology Dr. Omer A. Raheem

Quote III

"Guys, forgive me, I know I am a little pointed today but I've been taking a lot from you folks for a lot of months. I should be able to express myself, too." California Gov. Gavin Newsom

Quote IV

"Hubris is one of the great renewable resources...." PJ O'Rourke

Every day I despise the Department of Justice more and more. Jan 6 Prosecutors admit to possession of “images of officers hugging or fist-bumping rioters, posing for photos with rioters, and moving bike racks”

Jan 6 Prosecutors admit to possession of “images of officers hugging or fist-bumping rioters, posing for photos with rioters, and moving bike racks”
Calls into question the trespassing and related non-violent crimes charged against defendants like Cuoy Griffin.

This week, federal prosecutors quietly revealed that they possess evidence that may sink their prosecutions of many of those who were present at the Capitol on January 6.

This under-the-radar admission was made in a filing in the case of United States v. Couy Griffin. Griffin – an elected county commissioner for Otero County, New Mexico, a former pastor, and the founder of “Cowboys for Trump” – is charged with entering a restricted area outside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

On Jan. 6, Griffin and a videographer traveled to Washington, D.C. to protest the results of the 2020 Presidential Election. After attending the Stop the Steal rally at The Ellipse, Griffin headed toward the Capitol as the crowd formed around fencing which had been set up in anticipation of the presidential inauguration.

There is no doubt in my mind that there are at least 2 sets of laws in this country if not more.

There is no such thing as Man-Made Climate Change. You want proof? I give you John Fucking Kerry & Posse.

John Kerry family jet already emitted estimated 30 times more carbon in 2021 than average vehicle does in year
The jet has spent roughly 26 hours in the air, according to flight records.

While we are on flight stories......Who cares about Climate Change when someone wants a DQ cake. Secretly, we all know we would if we could.

SASKATOON -- A customer's unusual arrival at a Saskatchewan Dairy Queen has resulted in a criminal charge.

Around 5 p.m. on July 31, Tisdale RCMP received a complaint that a helicopter had landed in a "high traffic" parking lot in the community, according to a news release.

The aircraft "blew up dust and debris" in an area that includes a school and aquatic centre, RCMP said.

A passenger had climbed out of the helicopter and bought an ice cream cake, RCMP said.

Hopefully Tim Hortons will tell the arresting officers get your donuts and java somewhere else.

Hey Siri, what is the definition of a dumb box? See White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Siri responded.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki told Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy during Wednesday’s press briefing that former President Donald Trump told people to inject “versions of poison” to cure COVID-19.

Doocy asked the press secretary if President Joe Biden had contributed to vaccine hesitancy when he said during the previous administration that he trusted science but not Trump, and “the American people can’t either.”

Well this certainly is a sticky situation......... Here is a Reddit lament by a self-admitted FOMO-home-buyer in Canada. The couple, mistakenly thinking that working-at-home (WAH) was permanent, had bought for that reason a house “hours away” from Toronto six months ago. But turns out, WAH was transitory for them, and now they need to sell the house.

The post was brought to my attention by Steve Saretsky, a Realtor in Vancouver, whose work, reports, and data have appeared on WOLF STREET. Also note the post’s terse marital nuances that come with a situation like this — “she’s livid about the situation and refuses to live here now,” he says:

“Sorry if this is horribly formatted, I’m not a redditor.

“My wife and I bought 6 months ago at the height of the housing market it seems now. We bought hours away from work (Toronto) as we both were working from home. We thought WAH would be permanent and we were both afraid of missing out on buying if we didn’t pull the trigger. Wife is being called back to work full time. I’ve been given notice that we’re going back part time come September.

“We listed our house a bit over two weeks ago, no offer has come in that we break even on let alone profit. Our realtor has told us the market is cooling and that it would be a surprise if we got what we were asking for. We’ve gotten a couple of offers, none of which are asking price.

“We’re at a loss. My wife is looking for work locally but due to the nature of her work she is unlikely to find equivalent in pay or opportunity. She also doesn’t want to leave her employer, she has great upward mobility and seniority there. I don’t personally mind commuting part time but she’s livid about the situation and refuses to live here now.

“My friends keep telling me that there is no such thing as a Canadian market cooling and to just wait it out until it sells.

“If we listed for rent I think we wouldn’t be making a profit.

“Any suggestions would be appreciated.”

Hmmmm, the next time you make a life altering decision just take out a pad of paper and make a list of positives and negatives. Just remember the only 2 certainties in life are death and taxes.

The problem with some aspects of modern technology? Analytics and templates can really foul up one's life.

The Pain Was Unbearable. So Why Did Doctors Turn Her Away?
A sweeping drug addiction risk algorithm has become central to how the US handles the opioid crisis. It may only be making the crisis worse.

ONE EVENING IN July of 2020, a woman named Kathryn went to the hospital in excruciating pain.

A 32-year-old psychology grad student in Michigan, Kathryn lived with endometriosis, an agonizing condition that causes uterine-like cells to abnormally develop in the wrong places. Menstruation prompts these growths to shed—and, often, painfully cramp and scar, sometimes leading internal organs to adhere to one another—before the whole cycle starts again.

For years, Kathryn had been managing her condition in part by taking oral opioids like Percocet when she needed them for pain. But endometriosis is progressive: Having once been rushed into emergency surgery to remove a life-threatening growth on her ovary, Kathryn now feared something just as dangerous was happening, given how badly she hurt.

Granted there was/is opioid abuse. However, once again Government's reaction that "something has to be done" has made matters worse instead of better.

He better wipe off that smug white privilege grin off of his face.
“Matthew Rupert, 29, of Galesburg, Ill., has been sentenced to nearly 9 years in federal prison after being convicted for his role in the Minneapolis BLM-Antifa riots last year,” Andy Ngo reported Tuesday. “He handed out explosives & set a store on fire.”

According to Ngo, Rupert’s prison sentence is the longest thus far for those involved in the radical Black Lives Matter/Antifa riots, Daily Wire reported.

“Convicted #BLM arsonist Matthew Lee Rupert drove more than 400 miles from Illinois to riot in Minneapolis on 28 May, 2020,” Ngo wrote. “In addition to handing out shell explosives to rioters, he doused lighter fluid over a pile of boxes inside a store & set it on fire.”

The Fabulous Mrs. Mis. Hum. doesn't like it when I call women bitches. I can't help it when they set themselves up. Don't be that bitch.

Over the weekend, one University of Wisconsin-Madison professor vowed to strike a blow for a new kind of academic…uh…”freedom.”

Gender and Women’s Studies Professor Sami Schalk suggested she may cease wearing a bra to work, citing, among other things, male “policing” of women’s bodies.

“I don’t want to wear a bra to work,” Schalk said on Twitter. “It’s harder on my body & expensive AF.”

“All so [sic] some students think my tits don’t sag or don’t know I have nipples? Why?! As person with large breasts my body has always been heavily policed bc of how other people, mostly men, respond to it.”

“I just want to do my job, in the body I have, with as much comfort and joy as possible,” Schalk added. “The pandemic made clear what is and is not essential for me to do my job well. Bras didn’t make the cut, sorry.”

Obese, immature, inarticulate with a chip on your shoulder is no way to go through life unless your living on the government teat.

There's buzzed. There's 3 sheets to the wind. There's fucked up and then there is Genius Award Winner.

The drunken Oregon motorist whose blood alcohol content was measured at more than nine times the legal limit--apparently a U.S. record--has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for his inebriated antics, according to court records.

Nathan Danzuka, 28, recently pleaded guilty to DUI, reckless driving, and fleeing charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident (and subsequent police chase) in February in Madras, a city 125 miles southeast of Portland.

Danzuka was arrested after crashing his Ford Explorer into a concrete barrier. Police reported finding “several alcoholic beverage containers” inside the SUV.

Danzuka was subsequently transported to a local hospital where a blood sample showed that his blood alcohol level was a staggering .778, more than nine times the legal .08 limit. At time of his arrest, Danzuka was driving on a suspended license due to a prior drunk driving conviction.

Being the eldest of 7 kids, I was the prototype for how to raise kids. We knocked heads, of course. But he was never mean (except for making me weed the garden before I could head out for the day in the summer) And his lectures. yeesh.

I love my Dad dearly. I am blessed. And I will see him again in less than two weeks.

It does wear on you, but so does having a house you can't sell and your marriage breaking apart because you thought you were being cute during Covid.

I was a software consutant in Chicago in the 90s and at the start lived all the way down by Indiana, and my first assignment was way up in the North suburbs, way off the highway. The highway was so bad on Fridays i almost lost little time by having dinner on the north side rather than sit in traffic. I moved to place closer to the office after my lease was up and didn't have quite the drive then - but in several places I've known those that thought living hours and hours away was worth the driving.

152 That white antifa idiot who is going to prison, when in college I had a job where I worked on an assembly line alongside convicts. Boy is he in for a shock. The racial situation in prison is very different from out here. From what I saw, black prisoners and white prisoners did not associate with each other. For the most part, they didn't even look at each other. There are unwritten rules about how things work in the joint. He'd better be a fast learner. He MUST associate with the white cons, and they probably aren't like the people he's used to associating with. Most of the people who are incarcerated are part of the underclass, and many have been committing crimes since they were in middle school. First time offenders don't usually get a prison sentence unless they start off doing something really violent.

154 That makes me so sad. My dad had a really shitty childhood, and he tried hard to be a good father to us.
Posted by: Jordan61

My father's father was a dick to him (though he was a good grandfather), kicked him out of the office as soon as he graduated high school, and wouldn't help pay for college or law school even though Bops (my grandfather's nickname) made a lot of money back in the 40's and 50's. Thankfully, my father was a very good father and avoided being a dick to his oldest son (me) though he was not a good dad. Boys need a father who is also a dad. Though if you have to choose, better to be a good father than a good dad.

I've never commuted more than about 25 minutes one-way in my life and I have no intention of ever doing so. You have my sincere condolences. I used to get prickly when I worked in the winter and it was dark out going into the office and dark when I went home; I can't imagine stacking a couple hours on either end of that.

156 I've never commuted more than about 25 minutes one-way in my life and I have no intention of ever doing so.

Fortunately, because of career choices, I can basically identify the building I want to work in and there is likely a company inside looking for something I can do.

That said, I hate commuting and now only will do total remote; but back in the day, I would bicycle in at least four out of five days a week. Sitting traffic was only a few minutes shorter and I always got two good cardio work-outs in rather than time lost sitting in traffic and time lost again at the gym.

The bummer part is that I live at elevation, so the ride in was always downhill, and the return home in Texas heat was uphill. Fortunately mostly trailing winds though so it wasn't brutal.

It is really easy to put on weight working at home.

At what point do you stop following rules ? This is easily answered in South America - you stop following them as soon as practical there. In South East Asia ? The same. In Japan ? Never.

White, English Speaking countries - Canada, USA, NZ, Australia, and the UK - follow rules. That's the irony. Those who the rules are aimed at follow them the most.

228 There is no doubt in my mind that there are at least 2 sets of laws in this country if not more.

I am afraid we will be needing a lot more than that. The way I see it, the House and the Senate can be in five states, Super-majority or majority for each side, or tied. The President is Democrat or Republican and the Supreme Court can be Conservative or Liberal. That means we need 5 x 5 x 2 x 2 or 100 Constitutions.

Or, if that is too complicated, we can let the Democrats do whatever they want and the Republicans will put on a really good act of opposing them, right up until it's time to cave on a really big porkulous bill.

306 Right, so from the wild world of of media personalities posting their L's...

Local/regional sports guy gets the C19 vaccine. Two months later he goes on vacation, gets wuflu, winds up in the hospital. When he returns to his sports segment he extols the many virtues of his vaccine and how it totally saved him from a worse fate, cuz reasons.

So let me get this straight...you got the shot, then you got the bug (which DoctorDoctorDoctor said a month ago wouldn't happen), and then you wound up in the freaking hospital (which DoctorDoctorDoctor says right now wouldn't happen)...and this experience is somehow supposed to convince me to jump on board this dumpster fire? mine was great but he worksd ALL THE TIME and he certainly didn't have time for a lot of "dad stuff" but I never ever faulted him for it. he was super busy and I understood that, and just treasured what he did give me! and I loved trips to the store with him

when I was a younger kid he was career military and we didn't always live near the base (that was a decision I don't know who made) and then when he retired he was still often working.

you must be a younger Moron or something. what you describe is basically the ideal dad of previous years. maybe your dad was just a throwback type

I wonder if it that's in Texas. The first time I went to Texas I found myself laughing at some of the store names. They ranged from well thought out, to no thought at all, but mostly shit I never saw here. The other thing I noticed about texas are the huge ass stores that sell only one thing. Need a battery? NP, we got a 5000sq foot store of batteries for everything from a hearing aid to life support on the space station. I saw a store called condoms to go, which was funny, because you're not going to buy them and then hang around because you probably got better things to do, and again it was a huge store that sold one thing.

Others have pointed out that we're in a luxury phase of civilization, that because of technology, people can have unnecessary jobs. Of course, we're all human (with the exception of the Head Ewok), so we constantly try to find meaning in the meaningless. For example, it's not surprising that a gender studies major would trawl Twitter, frantically pouncing on any "mis-gendering" because she/he/xir literally has nothing better to do.

I was at the pharmacy today, getting renewal for some (unrelated) meds, and picked up the handout flyer from Alberta Health for the clot shot. but I had ANOTHER friend whose mom was a total space cadet and while they had been a very rich (and large) family, his dad took a powder leaving her with having never worked and no money and a bunch of kids. she kind of lost it. I actually loved her a lot but she was flighty and more than a little nuts.

anyway when HE went to college she decided to downsize a LOT and essentially moved in with her boyfriend. did not mention this to her son. so when HE went back home the first time at fall break he went to his house and no one was there! then he finally found where she was and she told him there wasn't any room at her boyfriends place

he ended up staying with us, I think! but she really was a nice person, just so over her head with her life I think

On a slightly more serious note, he fits the left's narrative which makes for an appealing target. Local and state authorities were blaming it on outside agitators by day two, and while I question how much of that they knew was true at the time it's something of an open secret in the TC area that several busloads of "activists" arrived from Chicago shortly before things got flammable.

Posted by: nurse ratched

I was the oldest of 3, followed by my bro and then my sis. My father was very hands on with my education and learning, and we'd have wide-ranging discussions and stuff. I thought he was rather indifferent to my sister -- wanted her to do well in school but didn't engage her in things. After he died, she told me that after I left for college, he'd take her out for something to eat (you know, like Bob's Big Boy or such) and they'd discuss her schooling, life lessons, etc. That meant a lot to her. That he did that really surprised me. My main problem is that my father was fairly uninterested in the bullying I got throughout my childhood and it (the bullying) really messed me up, even to this day.

When I was growing up moms weren't as huggy, kissy as moms are today. Many of them were of German descent. I don't know if that had something to do with it. My sister got engaged to a guy of Italian descent, and his parents were immigrants. I was a bit surprised by how his mom did so much hugging. The moms I grew up around were more like Betty on Mad Men, but with less expensive clothes.

Dave's son was there, working on a tricked-out VW sedan, a 2003 Jetta, I think. I mentioned your situation, and that the fender apron with shock tower was much cheaper here than in the USA. He laughed, and said, "it usually works the other way". And I asked about how hard it might be to change the apron. He said, "you are going to have to pull out the engine/transaxle, and put the body on a frame machine to do it right. Huge job." I said, sounds like it might be a better plan to weld in some patches." He said, "definitely, weld in patches, and install a strut brace."

They don't get all faggy about it though. The unions negotiated, and they can drink up to 2 beers with lunch in Germany. America can't seem to ever find a sensible middle ground on things. As a society we went from people smoking on public elevators, to basically illegal, even outside in just about 10 years. "They" want to lower the legal limit to .03 or something like that. If I remember right, it can't be too much lower than that as the human body actually produces some alcohol.

That varies by state I'm pretty sure. At least, I've (unfortunately) handled a number of cremations in recent years and never paid for embalming.

It's kinda sad to be at a point in your life where you have a favorite crematorium. Getting old is not for the weak.

And now we, speaking in the grand we again, are now on the cusp of doing it again by forcing them to wear masks all day, every day.

Our children can never recover these years. This is only acceptable if you find it appropriate that a proper education now means one can't read, write or compute.

I welcome women like the professor going braless. My mother (Silent Generation) and my bff's mother (Baby Boomer) taught us bras, good posture, and well-fitted clothes make a woman look her best, regardless of age.

We learned on our own that every slovenly woman makes us look better by comparison!

BTW I met a woman who looked fantastic without a bra. She was a 64-year-old grandmother who was raising her granddaughter (my student). She worked out and wore a spaghetti-strapped camisole that showed her great arms. She was probably an A cup. She didn't wear a bra because - get this - she adhered to the idea that a lady doesn't let her bra straps show. OTOH nipples showing through fabric is totally natural; happens to women and men alike.

I never expected that he would personally be defending these people. However, surely he has a network of buddies in the industry he could tap, set up a defense fund the proper way, etc. I'm not saying he hasn't done that, I honestly don't know since I don't follow him. But the conservative establishment has a big tendency to be long on talk and short on action. So I'm genuinely curious if he's stepping up to the plate to do something if he's so outraged, or if he's just yelling ineffectively.

In those days the 2 lane road into town was still pretty sketchy, with blind corners and weird bends and reverse camber curves. Basically old wagon roads that eventually ended up paved highways, they were never gone over by the DOT quite the way they should have to make them safer. I remember road trips sucked back then. Now, with 4 lane divided, a 100 mile commute is not that big of a deal.

Limbaugh was wise enough to not let his name be attached to many of the things he supported, other than the high-profile stuff like Tunnels to Towers and his annual Lukemia Radiothon. But twerps like James O'Keefe and Project Veritas don't exactly function without funding. Nor many others like them. And it's vital that those funding sources NOT be publicized. Now, go on and provide all your proofs for your "no's", while up against the late Limbaugh's brigades of tax attorneys and accountants who were charged with never letting that info roam free on the open range.

I started listening to him back in the vacuum cleaner sound effect days; after 30 years one develops a keen understanding of a single man. 586 583 He mocked the left relentlessly.

Yes he did. What was remarkable and telling about his nature he was never mean. He was like John Candy but political. In the alternative is Al Franken. So it seems to me tonight, every joke or comment he every has made was done with a brutality, a razor sharp edge.

---
My Dad and Grandfather were natural engineers. During one vacation they got ahold of 12' bronze ship propeller shaft. They promptly turned that into 3 dead perfect sailing ship cannons. Fast Forward to the late 70s. Grandfather and I went hunting one night with a dozen of of his pals (plus the cannon) at a cabin in N. MN. For fun they put the cannon under a neighbors cabin and then hid in the woods. When the neighbors came home Grandpa lit the bastard off. Best day of my life. The after explosion hangover went on for two days.

593 That's interesting, but you said not autobiographical. It just seemed your earlier comments were personal.

I just talked to my Dad tonight. He's 85 and was home after stopping at a couple of bars, for just one, to see some folks he knows. He's a hoot.

Posted by: Farmer

I started writing the lyrics years ago. They just seemed to sort of loosely reflect my relationship with my father, but they weren't intended to be written about him/us.

My father died a few months after his 86th birthday. He had suffered from PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy) for several years before that. Linda Ronstadt has it. It's rare and often mistaken for Parkinson's. Awful way to go, but there are worse. PSP isn't hereditary per se but there are increased likelihoods if a parent had it. As I said above, he was a good father and I do miss him.

---
Now in 2021, some 40 years after the cannon incident, I have become my Grandparents. They made me who I am today and I will carry my love and gratitude for them for them to my grave. But, before I pass on, I have done my best pass on to those that will bury me, those ideas and values. The value of my life will be measured by what they remember and say about me. This is true justice. I OK with that.

On the way home all I could do was think about and listen to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Some weeks later I was blessed by being able hear to hear the Jimmie Vaughan band in Santa Fe. I regret to this day I didn't stick around to tell Jimmie this while he signed CDs and T-shirts. Sometimes regrets and joy are measured in inches and minutes; this is one of those moments.
