The Night Is Fallin', The ONT's Callin', And We've Got To Get Down To....

Howdy Horde peeps! I'm on vacation this week, but I put together tonight's ONT before I left, so y'all could get your weekly ration of memes. Big thanks to Buck for covering last night.

Kids will be kids?

booby trap.jpg

Maybe. We never booby trapped anything, but I remember digging an in-ground fort that we blew up when we set of a Molotov cocktail in it (gas explodes, who knew?), and cutting down a huge pine tree that........just barely missed taking out some power lines. We never considered it until the tree started to go when we both saw the power lines at the same time and must have said “Ohshitohshitohshit” a dozen times during the few seconds it took to fall.

What is wrong with people?

recording.jpg

I see this all the time. People recording shit on their phones rather than enjoying it. Take fireworks. How many times have you been at a fireworks display and dozens of people are around you recording it rather than enjoying it? Stop that shit. Nobody is ever going to watch the film. YOU'RE never going to watch the film. Put your damn phone away and enjoy the moment. And don't even get me started on people filming other folks in trouble rather than FUCKING HELPING THEM OUT! GAH!

Sea Shanty (NSFW)

You want to know what's interesting to me? How we think of previous generations and sex. I suppose part of it is mass media like Father Knows Best and Leave It To Beaver, but those are idealized depictions of life. Don't get me wrong, idealized depictions are important, and help set the tone of the culture, but people are people and they're not doing anything now that they weren't before. I found out recently that my father, born in the '30s, was a “full term” baby born 6 months after my grandparents were married. Yeah. Grandma and grandpa were married for 60+ years, a good Christian couple, and by my memory and all accounts it was a good, solid marriage, but they were obviously up to a little sumthin' somthin' before they got hitched. We, or at least I, just don't think of our ancestors like that. As human, I mean, with human desires and mistakes. Why not?

One difference is that what we call “culture” these days celebrates depravity and human failings instead of condemning them or hiding them respectively, but I'm not sure that's progress. In any event, if you know sailors, I am sure shanties every bit as dirty as this (or more!) have been sung in seaside bars since Jason set out with his Argonauts.

What...what kind of toddlers do they have?

I could be wrong, but I think a lot of the big paper companies have (or did have) big areas in the southern states that are "tree farms". I know that I have seen this in Georgie. It's International Paper in Georgia, and they grow a LOT of pine trees that grow fast, and you can see they are tree farms because of how regular they are planted.

It was the actual agreement of the contract, and often involved financial arrangements between families. The marriage ceremony was really just the legal finalization. To this day, there's an echo of that tradition in the fact that a woman's engagement ring is bigger and fancier than her wedding ring. So to people with that mindset, an engaged couple was *practically* married, so if they were a little hasty with the lovemaking, there was no harm done.

And remember all the old Victorian dramas where men were sued for breach of promise of marriage? That's because the promise to marry was a serious thing, not just something you could blow off if your enthusiasm waned or you saw someone else you liked better.

When I was working at the MSU Library, we hosted some project that collated the historical land coverage - "wetland" or "sparse pine" or "dense red oak" with geodetic data to produce a map of "what did it look like in this or that neighborhood in 1600, or 1810, or whatever". Kinda neat. Of course I can't find it now. And no, I don't know how they know what grew where back centuries ago. Maybe they dig up tree bones or something.

Personally, I might not be a good judge of what makes something work. I worry far less about pacing than I do about character, story, and such. The Sopranos was made to last a while. Getting to know the characters, ease into the story, with exposition at just the right time. I found it to be very fun to watch.

But, keep this in mind: I hate the super fast-paced action movies with more splodey stuff and ridiculous fight scenes. So, make of this what you will. Very subjective.

172 I had to look up Dick, MI, because I'd never heard of it. It's in Trout Lake Township, Chippewa County, in the UP (naturally). All the addresses where it would be are listed as St. Ignace or Trout Lake or Rudyard, it has no post office nor zip code, and it's described by the USGS as "a populated place that is not a census designated or incorporated place having an official federally recognized name."

Basically, I'm saying Michigan hasn't got a Dick (although if it did, the elevation would be 797 feet).

I felt really bad for a guy from Ahia about 6 years ago he lost 9 of his 10 beagle hounds to wolves near Trout Lake. He showed the photos of how the wolves tore his dogs to pieces, heartbreaking.
The 10th dog showed up a week later in town. Lotta wolves in that area.

173 As I mentioned earlier today, I've been cleaning up in the weird coin department lately.

* An early 70s Churchill death commemorative bullion bar

* 1935 and 1936 von Hindenburg death commemorative coins. The 1936 one is particularly weird, because there's no swastika.

* Several Franco coins, pesetas. Not worth anything, but they're cool.

* Soviet 100th birthday of Lenin coin

* The coolest one: a 1925 US silver half, to raise funds for the construction of Stone Mountain

Now, if you know that Tenino means "valley" or "hollow" or "fold" or can be used to describe "Mommy parts" you will have a very private joke that the town fathers probably don't know.

Speaking of Denninger's forum, one of the posters there, who is pretty good with this kind of stats, did a quick and dirty teasing out of the latest data out of the UK, England specifically, to see what the actual vaccine efficacy is now.

Age is the biggest confounder. That is the older you are, the more at risk at you are (whether this is really age alone, or just more that age correlates with various other conditions, like obesity, diabetes, etc that put you at higher risk is a good question). And vaccination rates vary with age as well accordingly.

To do this right, you'd look at many age brackets, but he just used 50 as a rough cut off, and looked at under 50 and 50 and above. That's not perfect, but it's a pretty good rough winnow.

His post with the table is here:

254 I spent a month in Dresden studying German at the Goethe Institute. It was a very multicultural mix - Americans, Arabs, French, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Scandis, a Scot, Spanish, etc. Naturally, the language that non-German speakers could communicate with each other of a different first language was, wait for it, English. So after class we'd all socialize in English.

Final night about 30 of us went to dinner, speaking English naturlich. A French guy was talking about some woman who had gotten nake'd, as in the past tense of nake. I looked at him quizzically. What??? Guess. LOL. He'd never heard the English word nake-ed but it must have been pronounced similar to baked (not bake-ed). It was all good and he thanked me for correcting him on a kind of fundamental word.

Here's the efficacy numbers he comes up with:

Under 50: infection(symptomatic case) efficacy: 50%; hospitalization efficacy: 68%; Fatality efficacy: 55%.

Over 50: infection efficacy: 46%; hosp: 85%; fatality 84%.

For under 50, relative CFR reduction is just 9%. For 50 and above, it's 71%.

The latter numbers for the under 50 crowd is a very small sample, so the error bars on that would be very widee.

....

I hate percentages. Can I parse that out and you tell me if I'm doing it correctly?

So let's say the hospitalization rate for a 50 year old contracting COVID is 5%.

So out of 1000 such individuals, 50 would be hospitalized. If the vaccine has 68% efficacy, then only 16 would be hospitalized.

So then the vaccine would take the hospitalization from 5% to 1.6%. Is that correct?

273 Filming shitty shaky videos in landscape mode is retarded.

I used to take pictures of everything with my DSLR as a tourist, especially at museums if photography is not explicitly forbidden. I got nasty looks from people when I do it.

Unlike the dummies who film videos with their cellphones using one hand, I take multiple pictures of objects then I make a selection of the best ones. My wife makes memory albums with them (she adds postcards, decorations and short narratives). We have 15 years worth of pictures. By just looking at the albums, you could create a timeline of our travels.

Since the begining of the 'rona propaganda, for the first time in 15 years, we haven't left the US so looking at our albums took us back in time, hoping one day it will be the same. I know it won't. My naive wife hopes it will. The truth is that the 'rona turned most countries into East Germany.

We only have the cherished memories of free France, free Canada, and free Australia. Those places no longer exist as they were.

Another thing, with the under 50 you may notice. We've got a relative death reduction of 54%, but the CFR (case fatality rate) relative reduction is only 9%.

How can that be. Well, the most reduction in deaths comes from preventing infection in the first place. But once you're infected, it doesn't do much to lower your chance of death.

In the above 50 crowd, you've got 71% reduction in CFR.

As you can see, the overall infection efficacy ain't so hot from those numbers. Much less than the "95%" or so they claimed.

But, for the over 50, it is doing roughly 85% relative at preventing hospitalization and death.

This is changing. It appears the vaccine efficacy is declining with time, and time will tell what the story is there.

The .26% of the population. Vaccinating every person in that age group would take from a 99.74% of never being hospitalized for COVID to a 99.92% chance.

That doesn't really seem worth the risk of suffering side-effects from the COVId vaccine just to reduce the average person's odds off getting hospitalized by .18% overall.

324 In Canyonlands NP, UT, in the Needles district one of the jeep trails goes to a place called "Bobby's Hole", which I'm sure gets a few snickers.

Not too far from Moab, way back in the 1880s or thereabouts a black cowboy lived in a cabin. His name was Bill.

Well, the locals had a name for Bill, he was always referred to (not disparagingly necessarily) as "N*****er Bill", and the official place where he lived, in a canyon was an official place name called N***** Bill Canyon. Modern sensibilities renamed it Negro Bill Canyon, which anyone who is honest, just doesn't roll off the tongue quite the same, some years back, and I don't keep up with what it's called now. He was probably a pretty cool guy.

There was a landmark in the park or just outside it, called Molley's Nipple, iirc and I think the Karens got that changed. The US Geological Survey doesn't generally like to change place names too much, or they didn't use to.

325 >> blaming the unvaccinated for the new CV19 hospitalizations and deaths.

Yes, that's what they're trying now. But good news, the window on that is going to close. Reading some shit (Denninger's forum, and other places), the LIVs out there are starting to notice vaccine failure.

For example, some LIV on Facefart was talking about how her husband had been full vaccinated since March (over 65), and he was part of a poker group that plays every weekend, all fully vaccinated.

Well, two of the group gots the 'Rona now, symptomatic, and they were notifying them all.

Wait a minute, this supposed to keep you from getting infected? WTF?

341 The minimum wage argument is mostly bullshit. 1964 was the last year they made coinage out of 90% silver, other than the Kennedy half which continued using 40% silver until the end of '68.

In 1972, the minimum wage was still $1.25 per hour iirc. It went to $1.50 in '73, again iirc. But you didn't get silver wages. And the last silver certificate dollars were printed in 1964.

It is true that the dollar has lost purchasing power relative to precious metals, though exceptions abound. In 1900, an ounce of gold would buy you a nice suit; today it will buy you two. But in 2001, gold hit a low of $256 per ounce, which would buy you a very mediocre suit. Harrumph.

What I'll be interested to see is testing of the "vaccinated, then got and recovered from Covid" group, and see just what their immune profile looks like. I wouldn't bet on it being better than natural immunity.

Taking the jab fucks up natural immunity (it shifts your immune memory to favor the spike protein, and reduces total recognition. That is, all the various pieces natural immunity remembers get reduced at the expense of more spike protein memory).

What that profile looks like after vaccination, then recovery will be interesting to see.

A quality suit is worsted wool, cut in the timeless Bill Blass style, or something close, and doesn't lend itself to become the topic of conversation in it's own right. If the suit is the topic, you failed. If you're dressed correctly, all the compliments will be of the Happy to See You, You're Looking Great! variety. Or, if they mention the suit, it's because they've never seen you in one, or it's 'cause of how nice you look in it, lying there in your casket.

Went to the first link. 747 nanograms? You know how little that is? A nanogram is is one millionth of a microgram, which is one millionth of a gram. The dose of vaccine would be on the order of one gram, about equal to one cc of water. So, a does of vaccine would amount to about a billion nanograms, so the graphene oxide portion (if present at all) would amount to less than 1 part per million.

She sent out a letter to the faculty and students disclosing this, and said, "While the vaccines are not 100% effective, I'm glad I'm protected from serious disease and encourage all to get vaccinated."

They know that when the LIVs realize the efficacy ain't so great, then the vax push will fail. So, they're pushing like crazy. They know the real data better than any of us do as they have access to non-public sources.

The goals posts are on wheels, and motorized too!

I think the vaccines (any of them) have only limited effectiveness, and the individual response varies widely.
Some people are ok with the vaccination. It worked as advertised.
Some people probably had literally no effect with the vaccine, and thus it is likely the vaccine did not generate the pathogen (spiked protein) and there were no antibodies created.
Some people's bodies went into overdrive, produced huge amounts of spiked protein, had clotting issues and got very sick or died.

It's a crapshoot. As is life in general.

If the perceived "benefit" of the vaccine is that "it won't keep you from being infected, but you wont get as sick", maybe that's simply not good enough stacked up against the known risks of the VAX.

"Suffering" from the Delta Variant? It's more transmissible than the original, but it makes people less sick. It's like going from Spanish Flu to the common cold. The former was something to be alarmed about, the latter, "eh, I'll deal with it."

Yeah, what is needed is a serious, honest estimation of the side effect profile of these damned vaccines, what the risk ratios are. Then you can do a proper risk to benefit calculation.

But that has not been forthcoming. In fact, it appears the powers that be don't want to release that information.

It takes years to get this sort of thing, BTW. This is why it takes so long for vaccines to be approved. A lot of work, and a lot of time is required to get the true picture.

I hear you. Some of the claims being made by these sources don't pass the smell test. I am not vaxxed for WuFlu, and sure won't get it, based on what I now understand. But we have to be cautious about citing bullshit that seems to support our position, because bullshit is bullshit.

390 It's a crapshoot. As is life in general.
If the perceived "benefit" of the vaccine is that "it won't keep you from being infected, but you wont get as sick", maybe that's simply not good enough stacked up against the known risks of the VAX.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 24, 2021 01:12 AM (UD+Mg)
------------------

Things have changed so much in the past year. Discounting all the whipsawing from the media.

The vaccine was more attractive because the therapeutics were +/- unproven or were not permitted in the protocols that doctors usually follow.

Today therapeutics are in the protocols and are accepted. If one chooses not to take the shot and does come down with the covid he can go to his doctor and receive a prescription for an anti-swarm medication and a z-pack, take his medicine, rest and recover.

That wasn't happening a year ago.
Somehow this good news has not made it into the general public's awareness.

I'm not doing it, period. My immune system is solid bordering on alien. I don't sick, it just doesn't happen. Never had the flu, don't get colds, no allergies, never had measels, never had chickenpox, zip, nada. Not going to let them fuck that up, they can blow me in macy's window. Meanwhile, I have a friend who took is granfather for the shot, and was dead 4 hours later, another friend with a very sick wife with congestive heart failure who was fine before the shit. Fuck that. This thing stinks to high heaven.

Yep. That's what the lawsuit claims that was filed. I don't believe one would file a frivolous lawsuit against Big Pharma and The Great Reset folks unless they had the goods.
It causes blood clotting because of the spiked proteins and major heart inflammation. That's why media is so out in front when people like Hank Aaron got the Vax and then die shortly after. You can't hide this. It's mathematically impossible what is happening.

As was mentioned above, CMS has the data, amongst the Medicare crowd, and all in one place, that could prove or disprove the side effects and deaths numbers.

All the other health insurance companies have that data for the rest of the population, but alas, not in one place.

They could release it. Indeed, if there's nothing really bad there, they could disprove all the claims. But they don't.

I wonder if thats whats going on with my friend's wife. They are saying congestive heart failure. They did a pacemaker and a defibrillator, but she still isn't right. She is very weak. She was fine before the shot. She has no clogs in the arteries. Its almost like no reason this would happen out of the blue.

got a call shortly after that from radiology scheduler (another miracle point) and she says first thing smoking in 7August. yeah, no. digs a bit more, finds 2 Aug. better, but i'm in serious pain and need a DX NAOW. looks again, and, assuming i get there on time, i have an 0800 MRI in Left LA in about 8 hours from naow.

i should have a radiology report by lunchtime Caturday. here's hoping it's some weird sot tissue issue, and not a surgery fix: i'm 3 over my lifetime quota of ortho surgeries. and yes, i bought lotto tickets this afternoon. will wonders never cease?
