Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. If you are a regular you know the drill. If you are new, here it is: Kick back and enjoy the world of animals. Escape the world for a couple of hours.

A Little of This. A Little of That.

Spoiled? Yes photos of spoiled dogs.

How do cats and dogs see the world? Here's how.

Quite the reward for this pooch.

Meet The PetMorons

Sparky bike trailer (1).jpg

Mis Hum:

Here's a pic of my 14 year old Yorkie, Sparky, out on a chauffeured ride
on a sunny day. He's not totally sure of where he is, because he is
mostly blind now, but he gets cataract surgery in both eyes later this
month and the vet says that he will get about 80% of his vision back. It
worked pretty well for me, and the missus didn't even think twice about
getting it for her little baby. - The Neon Madman

That certainly looks like a fun family thing to do. Good luck with Sparky's surgery. Hopefully he will be able to see the surroundings soon.

Before and After
IMG_3520(1) (1).jpg

Dear World Famous AoS Pet Thread,

Attached are a before and after of my daughter's newly acquire toy Poodle. His name is Pizza and he was adopted from the Humane Society about a month ago. He hadn't had a haircut for a while and when she visited us for Independence Day weekend we were able to squeeze him into our dog's groomer. I post as ptleahy. My daughter is a nurse in another city in our state and she really wanted a dog. Pizza is a sweet little guy and he immediately bonded with my daughter.

Thanks for what you do.

Underneath all that hair is quite a handsome little guy. We are happy to hear your daughter has a companion. And thank you for thinking the Pet Thread is world famous.

Sissy (1).jpg

Our newest addition is Sissy a 10 year old female mix. Russell thinks there's some Red Healer in there somewhere. She's such a sweet girl and very shy. She loves walks and we've already walked her with another dog with no issues so I think she'll be very easy to integrate. We all love her sweet nature! Don't think she will last long before someone expresses interest. - Jewells

It is always good to hear from you Jewells. Sissy appears to be young at heart. Just look at those eyes.

This is Dozer. We were fostering him and his brother as little puppies for the local shelter. He’s a foster fail. We couldn’t sent him back when he got big enough. He’s a big baby. He’s got the sweetest personality. So after a recent rain storm, Dozer thought it was a great idea to go snorkeling through the puddles in the back yard and then blast through the doggy door at Mach 1 and go straight for the couches. He proceeded to decorate the couches with muddy doggy prints by running back and forth across both couches making sure his feet never hit the floor. That being said, it’s hard to stay mad at a face like that. Besides, with the heard of dogs we have, we long ago decided to cover the couches with blankets just for instances like this so no permanent harm done. Him a good boy. - Andrew

It's funny. When I first saw his photo before reading your email I thought, "There goes a dog to the bathtub." It sounds like he wound up in a great forever home. Thank you for sharing Dozer with us today.

This is Bean, short for Tiabeanie. She calls herself Yao Mao, which is Chinese for “The Wanting Cat.” She showed up on our doorstep on a rainy day about a month ago. I had a hunch about her at the time that was validated over the next few weeks as her belly grew round and full. Last week the vet confirmed it. We’re going to have Beanie Babies. - Victor Tango Kilo

That is a neat photograph. I take it you were at the right place at the right time. It sounds like you have taken this rescuing quite seriously. Good luck with the new additions.

Hi,
This is our Scottie rescue, Maddie. We took her in as a foster 6 years ago and, yes, we failed. She is a brat, but can be a sweetie, sometimes.
I usually lurk, and love the pet thread. - Holly

Failure can be such a subjective term. From the looks of Maddie you succeeded in adding a wonderful K9. Thanks for sharing with us.

Belle.jpg

Greetings PetMorans,

"THE Belle" Holding my sneaker hostage.

"The most beautiful girl in the world" according to her hooman, hoowoman, person, staff, can opener… I can't keep up.

A regal Queen of the house without doubt. She kept all the wiener dogs of the house in line.

She recently crossed the rainbow bridge. Now I got no one to guard my shoes when I visit Casa Del Toffer.

She will be a tough act to follow.-XGBC51

So sorry to hear of your loss. She certainly appeared to be quite the Guard Kitteh protecting that footwear. Although it is sad, we are happy you shared with us.

Hi, Ms. Hum,

You want to see the guiltiest face ever? This morning was baking day, and my shelter pup Tobie, who's been with me two months now, snuck in very quietly to find out if the raw flour in my bucket was edible. Unfortunately for him I chose that moment to move back slightly and stepped on him. Busted! He denied any wrongdoing, but couldn't explain the flour all over his muzzle. - Joel

Great photo. That expression is priceless, "Who me?" Thanks for sharing your story about Tobie with us today.

***

Thank you for stopping by today. And thanks to all of you who submitted photos, stories and links. You Morons make it possible every week.

If you have something you wish to share you can reach us here at petmorons at gmail dot com.

God willing, the creeks don't rise, we will see you next Saturday. Have a great week.

10 It seems that every time I post on AOS lately, it's to report some new personal bad news.

We lost our sweet Layla last night. She went to sleep with her head cradled in my lap, and the last words she ever heard were "Good dog. You're my good dog".
When we rescued her 8 years ago she was about two, and with her autoimmune disease, the vet didn't think she would see her fifth birthday. She would have been eleven this coming January. Her kidneys were failing and she had stopped eating and taking her meds. Last night we had to make the decision to end her life before she suffered any more.
Lots of memories. Lots of joy that she brought to our lives and we that we brought to her life. And love. Always the unconditional love.
RIP Layla, you are our good girl.

19 I love little Pizza's before and after! It reminds me of Heidi, my schnoodle when I was a kid. She was a black furball, and she came back from the groomer a sleek silver schnauzer (except for her ears, which were not clipped).. The neighbors thought I had a new dog when I walked her.

20 I got attacked by a swarm of yellow jackets and stung twice so get to take the rest of the day off.

We had pregnant Maine Coon show up and she dropped two litters before we put an end to that debauchery. There are still two of her progeny that live here as outside cats.

Posted by: f'd at July 24, 2021 02:30 PM (Tnijr)

21 , but he gets cataract surgery in both eyes later this
month
-------

That's wonderful, and I am a bit envious. Our adorable [hands in man card] little dog Sophie is almost completely blind now. She is 16+ and has a heart murmur, so the vet will not consider even sedating her.

To compound matters, she is completely deaf now. Most of us have been through such, and I'm not crying in my beer (yet) but it's damned hard to watch. I take her for very short walks each day, but it's a bit heartbreaking.

As I've mentioned before, Mike Hammer's Cat is 19+ with renal and hyperthyroid problems, so I have my hands full with nursing the two along.

An odd thing is that I do not believe that those who know me would imagine that I'm so emotionally engaged with a cat and a dog.

23 I had to unexpectedly put my 81 year old mom in the hospital on Tuesday . She lives over an hour away and her best friend is her 12 year old mixed terrier. Fortunately I was able to be connected to an owner of a dog walking /sitter business who agreed to temporarily take him home with her and her own dogs. Little pricey but the personal care he's getting makes my mom feel much better. I didn't tell my mom but after a day he appears to be thriving as he's had more activity he's had in over a decade. I'm going to arrange a couple of play days a week with the sitter after mom gets out of the hospital . Should be good for both of them.

Sorry about the loss of "The Belle" what a beautiful kitteh.

Bogie has been enjoying the respite from the heat and is back to two long walks a day. He's longing to run free in the back yard, but all the wildlife keeps me from allowing it. Jacks and skunks are bad combo, and I'd hate to lose him to that fate (or any, as he's sure to give chase to all sorts of things).

48 If you would, please say a prayer that our kitteh, Anubis, finds his way back home. He was our late daughter's cat while she was growing up, and he had been an outdoor cat for many years. However, a few winters ago, he decided to see how the other half lives, and decided that central heat and air were decided improvement over the great (and hot) outdoors.

He wanted to go outside the other night, and he is usually back on the porch within a day, meowing for his dinner. Haven't seen him since.

Thanks!

VTK, love that pic of your Beanie. And Andrew--Dozer is cracking me up!

My Tank has such chronic yeast skin infections that I make sure I bathe him at least once a week with epsom salts and antifungal shampoo. You don't get to see a Scotty very often. I have mixed feelings about them. My parents named me after the Scotty they had at the time and she was the only dog I have ever been bitten by. I still have the scar.

Very nice! I haven't tried the Lulu variety yet. I might do that one next. So far I've liked everything he has -- including some Franken-blends that I ask him to make for me, haha! Maybe one day I'll have one named after me -- but that might blow my cover here.

I'm not a cat guy, but "Caturday" has some meaning for me. Older son of Doof is a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky -- the Wildcats. They refer to football gamedays as Caturday

106 Pet Thread still on top, it seems. (Could change as I write this.)

Two weeks ago, we were at Mom's in BigTown, for our usual Saturday & Sunday nights, when I fell and got banged up, and spent an extra seven days, getting myself mobile again.

The kids took care of our three cats, but reported that Charlie, the great outdoorsycat, mewed loudly and incessantly to be let out, which they really didn't have time to allow.

When we got back, as usual, Charlie met us at the door. But his voice was... creaky. This has been a yowling yellow kitty since the day he wandered up to us as a kitten, waking us with meows in the morning, greeting us with meows through the day, and, of course, at meal time. Even though sometimes his yowling is fingers on a chalkboard irritating, I hope his voice returns.

Now we're preparing to go back down, just for two nights. Trying to reassure the felines we'll only be gone two nights this time. Of course, that's what we said last time.

Well, they can't understand what we say, anyway, right?

107 Well, look at that! BBQ place has the same cell tower as Mom's place since I nailed the same hash.

BBQ was very good. Not weak sugary sauce, but peppery hot Texas sauce. Baked beans were a good side, not at all mushy so very fresh, pinto beans were good, but don't measure up to Smash's pinto beans and cornbread. If you're in the area, check them.out.

Address for the BBQ place is in the Larry elder thread.

Weeding -- or wedding?? Lol

Ceremony just started. I'm not there. Middle aged married guy at a wedding by himself is kinda sad. I'm at the hotel, hanging out at the HQ while catching up on some online training for work.

My son is a groomsman. It's his college roommate getting married. I'm only here cuz he's not old enough to rent a car. The couple getting married and their parents keep telling my son to convince me to at least come to the reception. I'll probably go. Free food and booze!

124 Went to an event sponsored by Dr. Mrs. T's employers yesterday. Standard sort of thing -- supermarket pizza and subs at the park shelter, including a whole table of vegan offerings that went untouched.

But EVERYBODY (except us) brought their dogs. It was basically a dog party with some humans. That's pretty much all any of the humans talked about, either.

I thought it was great. I vastly enjoyed the dog party more than another boring office shindig. All parties should have dogs.

125 Pizza? Sure would like to know how that name was picked. Something tells me the name will fit though, they always do.

Posted by: JROD at July 24, 2021 02:41 PM (0jZnq)

Everybody loves Pizza!
When we got our kitties back in May, the male was named Pickles, and the female was Journey. Pickles was dubbed Purry Mason, and Journey became Della Street (also known as Donna because she's a Bad Girl!)
Purry has totally lived up to his name. He's the purriest cat I've ever had. Such a snuggle bunny, too. Della is a minx, vixen, whatever, always getting into trouble! She joined me in my shower the other week. I'd left the bathroom door open in case she wanted to see the shower stall getting wet. She's always playing in there. And she wanted in, so I opened the glass door enough for her to enter. She made a tour around the perimeter, without getting wet. Weirdo!
