Ron DeSantis Pardons All Floridians For Mask/Distancing Violations

DeathSantis also announced he'd be assisting in patrolling the border, by sending Florida law enforcement to Texas and Arizona to help guard our southern frontier.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis castigated the Biden administration for creating "a disaster and an emergency" at the nation’s border with Mexico and said Wednesday that he would send law enforcement to Texas and Arizona, whose Republican governors have appealed to other states for help.

DeSantis became the first governor to heed the call from his fellow Republicans, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, to send law officers to the border to help with interdiction efforts to capture those entering the country illegally -- including those working for cartels trafficking illicit drugs to all corners of the country.

"America's border security crisis impacts every state and every American," DeSantis said in a statement. "The Biden Administration ended policies implemented by President Trump that were curbing illegal immigration, securing our border, and keeping Americans safe."

Last week, Abbott and Ducey issued a letter seeking help from their fellow governors, claiming that the administration of President Joe Biden "has proven unwilling or unable" to secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

Let me quickly pre-empt the criticisms from NeverTrump liberals, who offered the same criticism of Trump: They will say that DeSantis is "pandering" to conservatives here.

And what does that mean?

You cannot "pander" by offering sound policy and decisions.

NeverTrump always assumes the leftwing position is the correct, right, and sound position, and therefore, any deviation from supporting the leftwing social agenda must be "pandering to conservatives."

They simply dismiss even the possibility that the conservative position might just also be the right position.

Note they never say that Paul Ryan is "pandering to liberals" by declaring that conservatives should not fight on any of the fronts of the culture war that the left is advancing on.

They don't think that's "pandering to liberals" because they think, as usual, that liberals are right. It's never "pandering" to do the right thing.

So they reflexively oppose conservatives on all fronts, and reflexively support liberals on all fronts.

But they're True Conservatives, guys.

Just ask them.

Send them emails courtesy of CNN and MSNBC and the Washington Post. Where all True Conservatives can be found!

16 I know law doesn't matter anymore, but DeSantis' move on this makes me curious about something.

If law did matter, is sending FL resources to TX to engage on behalf of the state in activities that are technically the purview of the Federal government legal? Can this not be interpreted as an illegal interstate union that is prohibited by the Constitution?

I know it doesn't matter and I'm glad to see it happening, but I am curious as to whether this would pass muster if the world were sane.

They will be up against Trump's machine. Whether Trump is the front man or it's DeSantis doesn't really matter at this point. It's going to effectively be one against many, and in electoral politics, the one has a distinct advantage.

100 The WHO thing is weird for sure. The advice isn't to "not drink once you're pregnant" - which is standard and has been known for a long-ass time - but to not drink at all.

I wonder what the real motive is. I can think of two conflicting reasons immediately. One is that they want to take fun out of the equation for everyone and reduce the number of sexual encounters (drunk sex is a real thing, after all).

The other is that alcoholism and regret are bad for the birth rate, and by reducing alcohol they'll improve fertility.

I used this argument against mask recommendations. When's the last time anyone actually followed all CDC guidelines? The CDC has recommended for years that women child-bearing age not drink alcohol because they could be pregnant and not know it. I don't know of any child-bearing-age non-pregnant women who don't drink.

They also recommend only 1 drink for women and 2 for men. How many of us strictly follow that guidance?

"The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on Thursday unanimously overturned a lower court ruling regarding the City of Philadelphia barring foster children from being placed with the Catholic Social Services due to its unwillingness to endorse same-sex couples.

In a 9-0 judgment, SCOTUS held that the City of Philadelphia's refusal to contract with Catholic Social Services (CSS) for the provision of foster care services unless the agency agrees to certify same-sex couples as foster parents violates the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. "

Not Cruz, not Cotton - nobody. This will make it very hard for someone even more obscure than those two to just appear and pull Trumpists away from Trump. Respectfully disagree with this take. While any one of us keyboard warriors might have done a better job on paper, there are vanishingly few of us that have the financial means to not take any money from any of those GOPe special interests, and get co-opted because of it. I'm really not a Pence fan, but he was probably not even a millionaire when Trump picked him for VP. He never had the capability to say 'no' to the GOPe - he had no lilypond to land on if he did. It could only have been Trump who could do what needs to be done. It's that way still.

A bit later an older guy came in maskless and saw everyone masked, asked the worker if they were required and she said no. All workers were masked still. So the worker was nice.

348 I read through the symptoms for Lewy Body Dementia - bah, it's just a fancy new name for what happens to old people when they start to fall apart. Specialists love to make endless lists of new named syndromes, when it's all just slightly different flavors of the same old thing. The mind starts to go, the victim gradually loses his ability to concentrate, to focus on tasks, to remember shit, and to do normal tasks. This can make the sufferers emotions fluctuate wildly, and giving psychoactive drugs to someone with a messed brain often backfires and makes things worse. I'm sure everyone here has had an older relative or three that has gone through this near the end.

Trump has/had plenty of faults, but he stepped up and talked about issues (like our wide open border) that nobody else on the so-called right (like el Jeb!) was doing in 2016, and he put in the effort to get elected and got some important things done (despite massive and ludicrously unfair opposition from the federal bureaucracy, the media, etc.), so he deserves credit for that, at least.

402 Calif. To Use Electronic Vaccine Verification System Instead Of Vaccine Passports

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) announced California will not have vaccine passports, but an electronic vaccine verification system instead. In a recent press conference, Newsom suggested the state was working on a system that businesses could use to check whether a customer is vaccinated.

The Golden State governor went on to mention businesses could choose between relying on the honor system for customers to wear masks or using the vaccine verification system. Businesses will also still have the option to turn customers away if they refuse to wear a mask.

466 I'm not a lawyer (nor have I ever played one on TV) so I'm curious about the concept of the federal government out sourcing activities forbidden by the Bill of rights.
We've seen this brought up in RussiaGate when the idea came that the CIA/FBI had gotten MI6 to do their dirty work. Early this year, it came up again when DHS talked about using it for avoid 4th amendment concerns. Now, it comes up again with Merrick Garland enlisting 'Big Tech' to help do their 'dirty work'.
What is the legal underpinnings of this concept. Is it illegal ? unconstitutional ?
Likewise, on the flip side .. we have had Mark Zuckerberg spread his ZuckerBucks during the election to buy ?? no one seems to know. We've also had Mike Bloomberg buying State's Attorney General's offices by sending money to cover activities (i.e. gun control, etc) that he would like them to investigate.
I see a great danger in the public/private partnerships that have no transparency.

Are the reason they don't want him running again. That they are no better than the NROrats that think it's 2003 and it's all about how they are embarrassed by him being the face of the party.

Posted by: Buzzion at June 17, 2021 01:35 PM (G2zl5)

473 Trump's intuition is dead on, policy-wise. DeSantis is better at explaining WHY the policy makes sense. I think Trump often needed to explain why he did things. Like calling the press the enemy of the people. We all pretty much get why he did that, but phrases like that did nothing to help him with MSM viewers.

Also, he never said "inject bleach" but the syntax there was confusing, to say the least. Whereas DeSantis, when talking about vaccine rollouts, completely dressed down the reporter with an agenda by explaining in painful detail every single point along the continuum. He's better at educating those who need educating.

The "Vaccines" (all of them) tell your cells (through mRNA) to make the pathogen, the spiked protein coat of the virus. This will make antibodies that will attack the real virus; that's the theory. From what I have read, T-cell response to the vaccines is weak (I would wager non-existent). Antibodies can last in your body months, or maybe a year or so, but will eventually die out, which is why they are talking about taking a "booster", another vaccine shot, next fall, for the "vaccinated".
I and my wife both had the virus. I have T-cells and B-cells (Which your daughter and family now have), and those will last for years, stored in bone marrow and lymph glands. Another Covid19 - like infection will release them, and they will trigger fresh antibodies to be created.

480 There were labs researching that exactly. Using a small probe at the end of an articulated thingy that emits UV.

There is actually a Japanese patent pending on such a device.

481 It doesn't matter how "true conservative" you think you are.

It matters that you are anti-LEFT. And fight.

A nineties classical liberal who is pro-gay marriage is doing more for the cause if he fights against speech codes than a sanctimonious pro-lifer that can't stop buying Nike Coke and Disney.

482 Greetings:

Are you sure that this is "pandering" and not "pouncing" ???

483 Pennsylvania will, never totally be rid of mask rules,
racking up mask violations myself just in case Emperor Wolf does the same.

I crack myself up sometimes.

484 heavens forbid conservatives 'pander' to conservative voters!

again, delete this if it's too fedpoastey, but the sooner these never trump loons start getting beaten up when they go out in public, the better.

485 Paul Ryan's rules of pandering:

Pleasing voters by passing bills they want: pandering!

Pleasing corporations by passing tax cuts and domestic industry-crushing trade deals: not pandering!

Any questions?
