Top Story

  • Windows 11 has leaked. (Thurrott.com)

Microsoft has adopted a MacOS style application dock but kept the Start button, which makes no sense. Fortunately you can change a setting - somewhere - to make it go back to normal.

    More screenshots.

It does look pretty, for the most part. You will be shocked to learn that the computer management interface still hasn't been updated from NT 4.

Essentially the Windows 10 UI has been refreshed but all the older stuff - Windows 8 holdovers, Windows 7, 2000, NT, whatever - hasn't changed at all.

That said, this is a leaked preview build and not the final product, so maybe something will be fixed before release.

Anime of the day is Kimi ni Todoke, a delightful high school romance series from 2009. The manga was originally envisioned as a one-shot - that is, a single comic of perhaps 30 pages - but in the end it ran for 30 volumes.

The anime series aired early during the manga run so it doesn't get anywhere near the end of the overall story, but the first season wraps things up very nicely. A little too nicely, because I was actually rather irritated by the start of season two when they had to create conflict to get things moving again.

Funny thing is, if you check the Wikipedia page and search for Asperger's you won't find it, but heroine Sawako Kuronuma is an absolute textbook case. It's quite a good study of it, in fact.

9 "not the final product, so maybe something will be fixed before release."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'd talk about software in general but I don't need to. Everybody here has played video games. Nearly everybody here has at some point anticipated a yet-to-be-released video game. All of you have seen the forums and online discussions prior to release with the rabid fanboys insisting that everything is wonderful and perfect and whatever problem might be apparent "IT'S JUST A BETAAAA! IT'LL BE FIXED BEFORE RELEASE!"

And every single one of you and Pixy most of all should know what colossal cope bullshit that is.

What you see is what you get, and it will stay that way, as long as developers can still count on making money by releasing half-finished crap. The only way that will stop is by making it the norm that releasing crap gets essentially zero money and releasing polished stuff iterated based on customer requirements that fits what the audience actually needs and wants is what makes the money.

Which is to say: pirate it first. Pay only if you like it.

13 Hello Pixy-misa and everyone here at the overnight horde. Well, on my docket tonight I went on a little spree of the sports anime, Slam Dunk which is a hard series to rate as its my first sports anime and I've fully enjoyed spectacle of the action especially without any real hoops action to fill my viewing pleasure. And while the series main characters are all very interesting and cool, the overall main character Hanamichi Sakuragi, remains a constant chore to endure with his profound stupidity raging the show more often than his rare bright moments.

While it somewhat dated, it really shocks me how good a sports show it considering it was made during the early 90s and yet it rarely does capture a good feel of the game in spite it being a foreign concept to the culture. Makes me wonder why growing we never had any good sports shows developed here at home?

16 I will say this, Microsoft does love that trashcan icon being very prominent on their desktop.

It's probably the only consistency they've had over the last 30 years.

Unless they've put Unix under the hood, it's still going to be the same bloated POS they've been churning out for the last 15 years.

Probably comes preloaded with RansomeWare.

Posted by: Thomas Bender at June 16, 2021 04:15 AM (QlVtI)

17 Good question Skip. Don't know the answer but anime varies in context and demographics that far exceed simple American animation that was generally only programmed for children in the daytime with rare exceptions like the Flintstones which aired in primetime. For anime, I can imagine anime enjoyed a more a wide range of the programming schedule for an array of shows which were geared for various audiences and not just for kids.

For example, I don't see Speed Racer being aired at the same time as Cutie Honey with all its ecchi content. And yet who knows really how the censorship board viewed the innate violence and sexuality thats built in beautifully into most memorable shows like Ranma 1/2, City Hunter and DragonBall.

20 And Pixy, despite the foreboding of season 2, I will definitely check out Kimi ni Todoki and prepare myself for the raging force that is Sawako Kuronuma. As always, slice of life school shows are determined as good or bad not by the main female lead but usually by her male partner who can end up sinking or making a great anime.

For example, Toradora and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya have excellent male protagonists that manage the crazy female leads into a well balanced drama and comedy.

Yeah, we saw the video yesterday; now it's being blocked by tptb. Chesa Boudin has declared shoplifting to not be a crime. Peachy.

I've decided to call the split the blue states vs the free states. No moar 'red' states. TX, for example, is muchly red but there are many pockets of blue resistance. Austin, Houston, Dallas. Still, mostly red.

Or free, as I prefer it. I see here in MS that we have a number of soft judges/prosecutors, that allow multiple felons to evade consequences.

But that is the exception, not the rule. And most murders here get solved.

That's MS stats, I assume. Doesn't surprise me. Of course, Shitcago would kill for stats like those. Their murder arrest rate is down around 15% or quite a bit less.

Still, murder is the biggie -- As William Munny puts it --

"Killing a man is a helluva thing. You take everything a man has, and everything he ever will have."

84 Research shows that entrepreneurs only keep 2.2% of the additional wealth they generate.

"In other words, the rest of us captured almost 98% of the benefits," says economist Dan Mitchell of the Center for Freedom and Prosperity.

94 Meet the Most Stupid person in South Dakota, Judge Kormann:

I am the safest in the courthouse. I had always thought that the principle responsibilities of the Marshals Service was the protection of the federal judiciary. As it stands now, they could well be the most dangerous people in the courtroom in a given case. I do not know the answer to that as I have no information since deputies, with the encouragement and full support of their supervisors, are refusing to tell me whether they have been vaccinated or not.
