16 interesting. i like this. not sure i'd hang, but would visit in the museum a few times. something draws the eye to it nicely, but not a single piece, it wants to wander and take it all in. pleasant and relaxing. i might look at this a few times today as needed...

64 I love this kind of painting. There is the realism of the model's features contrasting with the fantastic (as in fantasy). It has a feel of the detail, especially for women, of Pre-Raphaelite that I enjoy so much. Look through the artist's wiki page for a selection of the commercial posters he did as well as others. Wonderful and evocative .

CBD, thanks for including this. I have to do some research on his work and techniques.

127 My adventures in accidentally buying print-on-demand art prints from China is drawing to a close. After 35 days in transit from the Orient to New York, it had a 5 day layover in US customs. It has now cleared and gone out, and is sitting in my area's regional USPS hub. If all goes well, this farce will be over tomorrow and I'll finally see if the quality is even remotely up to par.

No. Ultimately it fails as "art," but as graphic or commercial art it is fine. The artist was a well regarded graphic artist/designer, and one reason I chose this piece is because many of us have seen his other work. The other reason is that it is an odd scene. As Kris pointed out, where is the Child?

135 127 My adventures in accidentally buying print-on-demand art prints from China is drawing to a close. After 35 days in transit from the Orient to New York, it had a 5 day layover in US customs. It has now cleared and gone out, and is sitting in my area's regional USPS hub. If all goes well, this farce will be over tomorrow and I'll finally see if the quality is even remotely up to par.

No. Ultimately it fails as "art," but as graphic or commercial art it is fine. The artist was a well regarded graphic artist/designer, and one reason I chose this piece is because many of us have seen his other work. The other reason is that it is an odd scene. Someone sent me a wedding invitation with the wrong house number and street name. If I live at "3128 Streetname Lane," the sent it to "2814 Streetname Road" and they actually got it to me. I am really attracted to the skill that can create several different textures out of one hard piece of marble. This one has the delicate veil, the body underneath, and the cushion. All different "materials", but really one piece of hard, heavy marble. The illusion is superb.

Yes, in the same way that they argue that "welfare" costs next to nothing. It's probably even true, if you accept their definitions where "welfare" means one small subset of original assistance programs. If you define it broadly - that is, properly - as all forms of cash and in-kind government transfer programs, then those arguments break down.

The economics of this are beyond stupid. Even ignoring the ones that just go on welfare, the argument is, as per Kevin Williamson, Americans are lazy and want American wages. Illegals will take a lot less pay and a lot worse working conditions.

But every illegal you hire means an American sitting on the couch collecting welfare or disability or some such. Low skill Americans don't just disappear because you replaced them on the landscaping job.

So some companies get slightly lower costs...but at the cost of the government paying more money in welfare to Americans.

You have to read through the "polite" language to get to the heart of what they are saying, but it is damning.

4. Any place where a ballot is being cast should be treated as a polling place, with meaningful access for bipartisan observers as well as consistent accessibility requirements.

They say it may take another 4-6 weeks to get the check, though. Grrrr.

Is the standard deduction more than $12,400 if you are over 65? The form and instructions didn't mention that.

377 OT-Don't know if Huck Follywood found the answer to his question about voting, but I was just told at the voting place if you are an I voter and have no declared party you can declare a party and vote in this primary. I couldn't change my party affiliation from D to R, but my son didn't declare a party and he can vote.
