I love this kind of painting. There is the realism of the model's features contrasting with the fantastic (as in fantasy). It has a feel of the detail, especially for women, of Pre-Raphaelite that I enjoy so much. Look through the artist's wiki page for a selection of the commercial posters he did as well as others. Wonderful and evocative .

They maintain, in the face of all evidence, that illegal immigrants don't collect "welfare" benefits.
The economics of this are beyond stupid. Even ignoring the ones that just go on welfare, the argument is, as per Kevin Williamson, Americans are lazy and want American wages. Illegals will take a lot less pay and a lot worse working conditions. But every illegal you hire means an American sitting on the couch collecting welfare or disability or some such. Low skill Americans don't just disappear because you replaced them on the landscaping job. So some companies get slightly lower costs...but at the cost of the government paying more money in welfare to Americans. Posted by: 18-1 at June 08, 2021 09:27 AM (DpkTQ) 253

They maintain, in the face of all evidence, that illegal immigrants don't collect "welfare" benefits.
__________ We know that the IRS pays illegal aliens billions of dollars in "tax credits" every year, by the IRS' own admission. There was also an article several years ago about how Medicare pays out billions of dollars each year in prescription drug benefits to known illegal aliens. We also know that California knowingly pays out billions in health care costs to illegal aliens every year, through the state's "Medi-Cal" program. We also know that the federal government pays billions of dollars in food stamps to illegal aliens every year. (Under Obama, they were also spending millions of dollars in Mexico on Spanish-language commercials, telling Mexicans that they can get food stamps in the U.S. without having to prove that they are living in the U.S. legally). And we know there is massive fraud and little or no accountability in all the 80+ federal welfare programs, so it's a sure bet that illegal aliens are ripping off taxpayers in every single one of them. Mother of god. I found a gold mine of information on Pennsylvania voting review.
Turns out that a report was issued by the joint House Senate Governmental Committee on the results and recommendations of 5 months of hearings. The report provides legislative recommendations for how the pending bills should be shaped. In the section on voting machines, they had Florida tell them how they certify the machines. You have to read through the "polite" language to get to the heart of what they are saying, but it is damning. 4. Any place where a ballot is being cast should be treated as a polling place, with meaningful access for bipartisan observers as well as consistent accessibility requirements. Peculiar days, folk,
This weekend I at last received Creepy Joe's $1400 bribe. Yesterday, 3 months after filing my Fed taxes, I get a notice from the IRS that they are adjusting my refund -- *upward* by $200! It seems, they say, the standard deduction I used (from the form itself) was $1650 too low, and so my taxable income and the taxes due were both lower, so I am due another $200. They say it may take another 4-6 weeks to get the check, though. Grrrr. Is the standard deduction more than $12,400 if you are over 65? The form and instructions didn't mention that. OT-Don't know if Huck Follywood found the answer to his question about voting, but I was just told at the voting place if you are an I voter and have no declared party you can declare a party and vote in this primary. I couldn't change my party affiliation from D to R, but my son didn't declare a party and he can vote.

A one-pound block of cheese, if wielded with sufficient force, utilizing the smallest area of impact directly above the maxillary arch, where the bone of the skull in the region of the temporal fossa is nearly paper-thin, can result in a depressed skull fracture, causing shards of bone fragments to penetrate or even lacerate the temporal artery, leading to a fatal intracranial hemorrhage unless Lactated Ringer's solution is administered STAT! Did I mention that I'm retired?

Heck, even a cheese stick can be sharpened to form a fairly effective shiv. Not the Pepperjack variety, but the others for sure. Best if kept refrigerated until immediately before use.
