Meet The PetMorons

709FCEFB-D414-427C-80A2-041C0E669EC0.png

Here is our self-adopted kitty who came to our house November of 2019. We named him Gunboots because of the circumstance of his arrival, at the end of a hunting trip, plus his ginormous boots! He is truly a specimen, and of course we had to have him neutered, but he would be an awesome sire, so in some way I regret that. He’s the shit. No need for any mousetraps or rat poison with this guy around. And snuggly, which is almost too good to be true. This pic is of him doing the thing he mostly does, “helping” Dad with reloading. Thanks for doing the pet thread! I know it’s hard, but so many of us enjoy it so much as a respite from all the shit that goes on. - Kalneva

Is that an adult beverage I see Gunboots with? It certainly sounds like the family addition was well received by all involved. Thanks for your kind words. They help me going.

Greetings ! This is my American Staffordshire Terrier, Rebel the Dog! He’s now 6 years old and is a Fine K9. We are Best Buds,(well, at least I think we are!) and we’ve finally learned how to walk loose leash! Yay!!!! Rebel spends my work time at Laura’s house where he runs, plays and chases the ball with his pals! He loves truck rides and chasing squirrels. He’s a Good Boy and I’m very Proud of him! He was on the pet thread a while ago but I thought the hoard might appreciate seeing him again. Thanks for all you do at AOSHQ and God Bless! - Rick and Rebel the Dog!!

Rebel has matured nicely. Now if you could only get him to help with the yard work he would really be a GREAT dog. Yeah, I know, "No thumbs" response. Sounds like he is certainly loved. Thanks for being a regular.

This picture is entitled “Why Sabin Never Got Any Work Done at the Bookstore”.

These three were my second set of bookstore cats. The tuxedo, Tiger, and the marmalade striped cat, Rosemary, were littermates I got from the Humane Society when they were four years old. The fuzzy one, KatyDid, was a Himalayan I inherited from a friend. Rosy and Tiger came to the bookstore after my first two bookstore cats died. I got tired of everyone complaining that there were no cats and when was I going to get more cats. I kept an eye on the Humane Society website until they showed up. They had been in residence at the store for well over a year when Katy came on the scene. Don’t let the picture fool you. While Tiger got along just fine with Katy, Rosy hated her with the heat of a thousand suns. The picture is one of those rare times when Rosy let Katy get near her. Poor little Katy was terrified of Rosy, and for a very good reason; Rosy would slap her silly every chance she got.

The three cats came home with me when I closed the bookstore. Rosy died abou8t a year later of fatty liver disease. (She was a little porker.) Katy died around this past Halloween -- upper respiratory. Tiger died of multiple health issues a few weeks back. So Sabin’s infamous bookstore cats that made it their life’s work to upstage every author who came to the bookstore, are no more - Captain Josepha Sabin

Condolences to the passing of your cats and the end of an era. This photo tells us they were well treated and loved. Thanks for sharing today.

Brucy (1).jpg

That Deplorable SOB Van Owen here. Just learned that my daughter's family dog Brucey passed away in his sleep. Her two sons adored him. He was a good dog and will be missed.

Such a happy photo and such sad news today. Condolences to your family on their loss. You can just see the joy Brucey brought to grandsons. Hopefully, a framed photo of this will grace their home soon.

They are adorable but Ginger has a horrible fungal disease which has taken most of her hair and she's far too skinny so we will have to fatten her up. They are treating the skin problem so we'll see how she does.

43 Old dog is not having a good week. She had a lot of little seizures early in the week. I gave her some prednisone which seemed to help. Talked to the vet, who okayed some for regular use. Today, her legs keep going out from under her. The house is all hardwood or vinyl floor. I have rugs all over the place to help with her balance. But she is a stubborn dog and insists on going to the one spot in the kitchen without a rug.

And the cat is in heat. She has very light heats that don't last long. I'm going to have to give in and have her spayed. I've put it off because she is so small. But they deal with small cats all the time. It would be easier on her to have it done while I'm still here, so she can heal up before we travel. Need to get her chipped too. At least the young dog is doing okay.

61 A Tale of Two Great Hunters

The other evening Wolf, the big black cat, was trotting restlessly around behind the corner armchair and the TV stand. He'd gotten one of those little brown salamanders that come in from outside. Miss Linda, unfortunately, saw it too and cried that we needed to save the creature. We didn't dare take it directly away from Wolf; his blood was up and he might scratch us in the heat of the hunt. So we locked him in the bedroom and bit by bit coaxed the salamander (who had lost his tail) out the door. Imagine the heroic stories he'll tell his people. "There was this giant furry thing that had me in its mouth. I was a goner. And then two bigger creatures drove it off -- and I escaped!"

65 A Tale of Two Great Hunters, Continued

After we got the salamander out the door, Linda proclaimed that Wolf was A Bad Cat, and Chekov D. Siberian would never do such a horrible thing as toy with his prey. I pointed. Chekov had found a garden lizard and was holding it in his mouth, letting it fall, and scooping it up again. (It was already dead, I found when he left it and I tossed it outside.)

I told Linda: "That's the nature of cats! They torture their prey before they kill it. They play with their food! They're not bunny rabbits!"

68 Capt. Sabin's cats were a great combination. I've had a couple of tuxedos and two red tabbies. Never a pure Persian -- though one of my tuxedos, longhaired Oreo, was built like one and had the temperament of one. In my experience true tuxedos, the ones who are mostly black except for a white jabot and other trimmings, tend to have some health troubles; the reds are quirky, with good brains. Pure blacks are easygoing and adaptable. White-with-black cats have a tendency to nip. Siberians are either prickly or sickly and sometimes both.

All this is from an extremely small sample size, you understand.

83 Dogs do need to be socialized. The young dog seems to have spent most of his time as a puppy in the back yard. When we got him at 10 months, he didn't pick up on vocal or facial cues until you yelled at him. It's taken him a lot of Helen Keller moments to learn that he should pay attention when I talk.

87 Hi all you fantastic animal lovers! I'm usually hanging out at the ONT, but I always lurk here on the pet thread.
I'm a dog mom, and have been most of my life, always with rescues.
I have an old girl (14) beagle/lab. I thought I was going to have to let her go a week ago. Apparently she must have had some kind of fall. The local vet came to my home and checked her out, prescribed some pain meds, and she is mostly back to her little stubborn self, with a constantly waggy tail. Maybe I can have a little more time with her.
And my best admiration to Jewells for the blessed work you do.
Saint Francis would be proud

89 So.we can't get the NCAA Final Four game on our TV even though I have the app. But we can get it on our iPads. But I can't watch bball while commenting. This is unacceptable.

90 I guess we're done here...
I'm looking forward to seeing many of you tonight.
The best place to be is this website.
I bet much sanity is saved at AoSHQ.
Thanks all for being there.

91 68 -- Tiger was the only tuxedo cat I ever had. Every other cat I've had was a tabby except for two white long hairs and the lynx point Himalayan. My last cat, Hershey, is a chocolate tabby Persian.
