44 Leadership is not having the courage to name names and then when called on it say you didn't name the person you intended to insult. And it wasn't him it was someone else who you don't name either, and anyway it was just a general comment and if the shoe fits, we'll find someone who wasn't even there. Because all you little people are too sensitive and should just lighten up because it was all just general campaign rhetoric that doesn't mean anything because everybody does it.

59 We need to be responsible in our message ... what do you mean "we"?

Your irresponsible message Nikki, was to not vote for Trump, the "people's choice", and to trash talk him. Isn't it irresponsible to not take to task this treasonous administration at every turn? And to do so in a way that rallies the average American that recognizes how criminal the DC cartel is?

Mark Steyn was praising the Trump rally for how much fun it was ... not how much hate there was. Mark scoffed at the accusations that Trump was really confiscating the guys coat. He said that is what we in the business call "a joke". But Nikki is all business I guess ... whose business?

How inept, or mendacious, or stupid do you have to be to be "misinterpreted" the way this was, given the context, the situation of the country, the outlandishly bad state of things in the country?

It's easy to forget, in a time of such small, unfit people dominating public life, that the literally unbelievable state of the Dems distracts or masks how mediocre- or worse - the "stars" of the GOP are.

But it is hilarious, the reference to Rubio's amnesty support, and the go-around this could lead to. One histrionically inept and non-credible GOP star wrestling artlessly with another. Over the policy only the clownish outsider has forced onto the table.

67 I didn't watch her speech, but I just read the transcript.

It's awful in one way: It doesn't even mention Obama's open disregard for the rule of law. It glosses over his multiple catastrophes as "failures" -- psst, hey stupid, they're not failures for him, he meant to do that shit. And her speech actually spends its first several lines flattering the Asshole-in-Chief.

But: Where does she go after Trump? I don't see that anywhere. Can someone point out the specific line? Because most of the speech is just anodyne inoffensive boilerplate mush.

Was it this? "Some people think that you have to be the loudest voice in the room to make a difference. That is just not true. Often, the best thing we can do is turn down the volume."

Um, OK; that's got everyone all worked up? What am I missing?

It's impossible to change that law, it's never been done before ever in the history of the country ever, and that just accepting the decline into a third world country should be celebrated by standing up their like a fucking squishy turd.

The function of conservative politicians is not to BE conservative, but to ACT conservative.

In our present dark age, this translates to stomping about kicking everyone in the balls, lashing them with a whip, and knocking over their money changing tables. Then, the next morning, firing them, and then nuking the moon for good measure.

Can we all agree that these are the things that need to happen? And that academic exercises in ideological purity aren't going to put welts on the faces of the liars and thieves currently occupying our most sacred institutions?

The struggle with the Democrats is a fight to the death. They know it but the GOPe doesn't, which is why we always lose. It's as simple as that.

I went over this exact thing with chemjeff on the ONT just before the servers shut down last night. She took a swipe at Trump (and Cruz). She made stupid statements about opening the borders up and exercising little or no discretion in who we allow in (beyond "vetting", as if that is our only control to who comes into our country) and she quickly backtracked in her speech to lie and claim that she wasn't advocating for "flat out open borders" (though she obciously was or she wouldn't have had to try and deny it right afterwards) ... and on and on. It was pathetic, especially given that it was more of a tag-teaming with Barky and his STFU speech than any sort of response to it. Haley was nothing but a Barky collaborator - nothing new for the Vichy GOP dirtbags.

In an interview published Wednesday in which the California Democrat defended a woman's right to abortion, Pelosi also said she does not believe in abortion on demand. The interview appeared in Roll Call, which covers Congress.

192 "But: Where does she go after Trump? I don't see that anywhere. Can someone point out the specific line?"

It was the one about loud voices, angry voices, and to resist the siren call of those voices. And because The Donald is shrinking violet, a fragile, delicate, beautiful soul people got immediately outraged and sprung to his defense out of a sense of God-alone-knows.

It was a silly, laughable, remarkably ham-handed attack on Donald Trump who essentially blew it off in a throw-away line on a morning show.

But in the spirit of these times people went bonkers over it when they should have just shrugged and kept right on going.

And now, she's walking back her intemperate words, and failing to take responsibility for what she said.

That's the thing about sharp swords. They cut in both directions.

Nobody watched the speech. Only a handful.

Somebody posts a headline on Twitter and everybody reacts.

Nobody watches anything. Our reactions are reactions to 140-character headlines.

She admitted she was referring to Trump, but Trumpkins gotta defend their boyfriend and so they took Massive Offense to the mildest of slights (not even on substance but on style).

Then reaction.

Then counter-reaction.

Then complaining about all the counter-reaction.

These people aren't gods. They screw up. A lot. The only way you can guarantee they've never screwed up is if you think you have to nominate somebody who's never been in a position to screw up politically (just in other ways).

Now, I'll take issue with the fact that she had to bring this shit up at all. The focus here should have been on President Shit-Fingered-Midas and the way he's wiped his ass on the Constitution.

And I completely disagree with her, and I agree with Trump, that we need a moratorium on immigration "from certain countries". I'd phrase it that way, but I think we're all clear here on what the predominant religion would be in those countries. Islam is a mental virus, and we need to contain its spread. But if I were a politician, and I wanted to avoid giving my enemies ammunition, I'd just say "fewer Syrians, Iraqis, etc."

So I do take issue with some things here. But she at least tempers her comments somewhat, with the "must stop illegal immigration" bit.

I just don't see where she went full-bore after Trump. Yes, this was a horrible and misguided speech and a waste of an opportunity. But I shudder to think what will happen when someone really does go after Trump. Shit, there will be riots in the streets.

It's not that she went after Trump. He's a big boy and can defend himself. It's that she went after the issue that drew people to Trump and that she did it for no reason other than to side with Barky against all the "bitter clingers" that she and the rest of the Vichy GOP despise. And she did it all at exactly the wrong time, as you also noted, and that she spent her time advocating for things that the base totally rejects and that are deal-breakers for most reasonable people.

Most people probably didn't care one whit what she had to say but the kick in the face of taking the "rebuttal" opportunity to tag-team with Barky and attack conservatives was just a little too much. It was treasonous and retarded all at once.

This was not about Trump. It was about serious issues and about those who value those issues, and Nikki Haley made a very spastic effort to kick them in the face.

Liberal Party politicians do that here all of the time---say one thing in English in a speech and something different or with something additional in the French version of the speech that wasn't part of the English speech. Get used to it when you become "officially" bilingual as a nation.

She and the geniuses at GOPe central thought this was brilliant finesse -- wrapping a bitter internecine attack on Trump in a SOTU response will beard it in a loftier context. And besides, they don't have the natural partisan frame of mind to attack Obama. It's not second nature to them.
