However she's had psychotic episodes SEVERAL times while on the bench due to not taking her meds. So she is now arguing her illness is controllable with meds. 146 The State Department is planning to spend $400,000 in taxpayer funds to buy a sculpture for the new American embassy being built in Islamabad, Pakistan, according to contracting records.

The work, by noted American artist John Baldessari, depicts a life-size white camel made of fiberglass staring in puzzlement at the eye of an oversize shiny needle — a not-so-subtle play on the New Testament phrase about the difficulty the wealthy have in entering the kingdom of heaven.

Officials explained the decision to purchase the piece of art, titled “Camel Contemplating Needle,” in a four-page document justifying a “sole source” procurement. “This artist’s product is uniquely qualified,” the document explains. “Public art which will be presented in the new embassy should reflect the values of a predominantly Islamist country,” it says. Reminds me of the Reagan's Sec. of State, George Schultz, who used to ask new ambassadors to "point out your country" on the globe in his office. Then Schultz would gently remind them that *their* country is the United States, and it's best to keep in mind that they represent the US to their host country, not the other way around.

190 Ah, right. So NFL and NBA are local -- the officials at the game go watch the replay themselves. The NHL and MLB have a centralized system with the local officials just call up to HQ to get the answer.

Wonder why each picked what they did. Risk of the centralized system is if comms go down for some reason. It would seem a centralized system might have some cost savings and efficiencies.

The NBA vs NHL comparison is interesting since they have the same # of games. The low # of NFL games would make the efficiency of a centralized system less meaningful. MLB has the most games so would benefit the most.

But NBA and NHL face very similar economics of replays, I'd think, yet chose differently. Perhaps a bit easier for NBA refs to just walk over to the scorer's table to watch replays.

It's OT but so true! As a short white kid I did 1 thing well: steal the ball (hold the jokes)

Our coaches told us to watch the waistband because that was the center of gravity, but that's not it.

Once the ball leaves another player's hand on a dribble or a pass, there's no skill, just gravity, diameter, air pressure inside the ball, elastic impact, spin, friction of the floor and Newton's laws.

Instant it leaves your fingertips I have hundredths of a second to gauge those things and make sure I get the rock before you can get it back because you no longer have control.

Watching tape told you who did what and when and where, statistically.

I wasn't great, but did get a little bit good at it.

Then, everyone started taking 5 steps in a row.

Presume that those getting the actual subsidy has been having a hard go of it (perhaps for many years). They finally climb out of the low income hole and get a raise. Then they are punished - retroactively (because of the timing of when you sign up, etc). So, a potentially huge bill could hit your accounts as a result.

This is literally swinging a bat at someone moving from subsidized help to climbing out of it.

It's sick.

Guess which ones you can absolutely, posatively count on to work every time? The airlines want you to think you are perfectly safe. You ain't. They just lost a giant airplane with near 250 people on board, and they don't have a fucking clue as to where it is. Modern technology, like always, has it's limits.

215 California State Senator Leland Yee vigorously denied that his arrest on gun running charges in anyway contradicts his long time support of gun control laws.

“My position all along has been that firearms do not belong in the hands of untrained individuals,” Yee maintained. “What I have sought to prevent are shootings carried out by unorganized citizens.”

“The parties for whom I arranged to purchase guns are all well-organized cadres of persons dedicated to a political cause for which the possession of high-powered firearms is essential,” Yee explained. “Do you think that the Islamic jihad has any chance of peacefully prevailing in America? These weapons are absolutely vital to their chances of success.”

So.... Peacetime? a generation.... Wartime? a few years IF its a real war... not a Police Action or occupation.

Come on, ace. It's obviously "all politicians". "Both sides are corrupt". (OK, that second one is true, certainly for CA GOP, but there are widely divergent kinds of corruption, and we're talking here about the outlandish, B-movie script variety)

Christians have to accept everyone else's life decisions and are unallowed to comment negatively on them while they are painted knuckledraggers, openly, and then the nation expects the christians to fight for the others' freedom to persecute the christians.

The bitch of it is that a female with an M-4/M-14 can place a round in center mass as easily as a man. Look to Israel. Their ladies would fuck up pretty much everything if they decided they needed to.

It's just a kinder, gentler military. We're being transitioned from 'kill people and break their shit' to 'nation-build and win hearts and minds.'

Fuck that thing in particular. If you need us, it's because people need killing and shit needs breaking. The. End.

From the headline:

"But this doesn’t mean in 50 years there will be
less food grown. Thanks to the “green revolution” of improved
agricultural techniques, crop production is growing about 10 per cent
per decade and climate change is likely to reduce yields by 1 per cent a
decade, so crop production will still go up, but not as fast, said
David Lobell of Stanford University, one of the authors of the report’s

366 California has the twelfth largest economy in the world--and this guy Senator Leland Yee was running as the Secretary of State for California--overseeing all of its elections this coming November 2014.

According to the indictment Leland Yee was offering to buy hellfire missiles and other arms from a paramilitary Separatist Muslim extremist group in the Philippines MILF (no joke that is the acronym) and sell them to someone looking to bring them into the US.

I think that grants it more than--"it is just a local story" status.

*If* Leeland Yee was a Republican working with a con artist who had connections to a big time illegal fundraiser for a Republican presidential candidate--there is no question that CNN would be all over this.

Instead it is Senator Leeland Yee (D) who is in a mess with Raymond "Shrimp Boy" Chow-- who has ties to Hsu.

Norman Yung Yuen Hsu[1] (Chinese: 徐詠芫; pinyin: Xú Yǒngyuán; Wade–Giles: Hsü2 Yung3-yüan2), born October 1951,[2] is a convicted pyramid investment promoter who associated himself with the apparel industry. His business activities were intertwined with his role as a major fundraiser for the Democratic Party, and he gained notoriety after suspicious patterns of bundled campaign contributions were reported in 2007.[3] Subsequently he was discovered to have been a long-time fugitive in connection with a 1992 fraud conviction.[4][5] After turning himself in to California authorities in 2007 he fled the state again and was quickly recaptured.

The U.S. Justice Department investigated whether Hsu illegally reimbursed political donations by associates and formally charged him with fraud.[13][14][15] On November 27, 2007, a federal grand jury indicted Hsu on charges of violating federal campaign finance laws and defrauding investors "out of at least $20 million."

[...]

By 2007, Hsu's status within Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign had risen to the level where he was a "HillRaiser",[23][29] someone who had "bundled" more than $100,000 for her campaign, and to where he co-hosted a $1 million fundraiser at wealthy Democratic Party supporter Ron Burkle's Beverly Hills estate,[3] and in September, he was scheduled to co-host a major gala fundraising event featuring music legend Quincy Jones.

Chow taked about his ties to Hsu during an interview with KGO San Francisco's Vic Lee:

SAN FRANCISCO, Sep 7, 2007 (KGO) (KGO) -- Authorities are awaiting word on when fugitive financier Norman Hsu will be brought back to the Bay Area.

Hsu is the man who skipped out on two million dollars bail in San Mateo County Wednesday, only to be rearrested last night in Colorado, where he's now in the hospital.

He's been on the run for 12 years.

Hsu rubbed shoulders with the powerful and notorious as well.

Raymond Kwok Chow, alias "Shrimp Boy," is one of Hsu's known associates.

368 I contend that Ace was happier and healthier when he was a foul mouthed and angry rant-filled seething mass of hate and derision. You gotta get that crap out of your system and there's no better way than calling Christopher Buckley a cucking funt.

369 If an American is out of the country, do they still have to have insurance? Soros?

Also, how do they check being Amish?

I'm an Anabaptist, is there a less strict group of Amish that will give me a letter?

370 Greetings:
As I am still serving my deportation to the San Francisco Bay area, I would like to offer a somewhat alternative perspective to this unprecedentedly historical event.

I think the the California State Senate should put itself in for the Diversity of Multicultural Diverseness Award for 2014. When a state senate recognizes that diversity is for all and for ever by ejecting (even with green parachutes and hardly prematurely) one each Latino, Negro, and Asiatic and then puts a cherry has this progressively Progressive ice cream sundae by having it trumpeted by its practicing sexual dysfunction head-person, well, there you go

371 So, CNN did not cover the Trayvon Martin shooting?
