"The System Worked:" Former EPA Head Lisa Jackson Hired by Apple, Which Was Just Beaten Up By Democratic Politiicans

Democrats railed at Apple for obeying the tax laws. That's right. Apple obeyed the US tax laws. However, had they arranged their company differently, they could have paid more money to the US government.

So Apple -- which is certainly among liberals' most beloved corporation, after Starbucks and the US Government -- is probably feeling a little heat right now from its liberal, Democratic client base.

Not to mention the government bureaucracy. Which, Gibson Guitars can tell you, can be pretty aggressive about roughing you up if you don't play ball.

There's an app for that -- hiring a disgraced but loyal liberal bureaucrat in need of a paycheck.

2 and off topic already but had to post this -- in the email today:

Friend --

Last
summer, my sisters and I had the time of our lives traveling the
country for a project that became known as Nuns on the Bus.

We
went from Iowa to Pennsylvania, going through seven other states and
D.C., raising awareness about people living in poverty, and asking
Congress to do better in their budget for the most vulnerable in our
society.

This summer, we're hitting the road again for a 6,500
mile, 15-state bus tour around comprehensive immigration reform, and
we're proud to have the support of Organizing for Action.

We'll be in Jersey City on Wednesday, May 29th, -- can you meet us there and lend your support?

What: Join the Nuns on the Bus in Jersey City

[info omitted]

We're
starting our road trip this year looking out on Ellis Island, and
ending three weeks later in the shadow of San Francisco's Angel Island
-- stark reminders that this country was built by immigrants, something
we shouldn't forget now as Congress is debating comprehensive
immigration reform.

Our nation deserves a policy that respects
the dignity of each individual, treats people fairly, and helps keep
families together. And I'm hopeful that the bill moving through the
Senate right now will help get that done.

But we're not letting up until Congress does the right thing.

I hope to see you in Jersey City on Wednesday:

[redacted barky website]

Thank you,

Sister Simone Campbell

The Catholic Church (disclaimer - I am not one...I married into a Catholic family and go, sometimes, but not always) is into "social justice". Frankly, I think its more of an economic ploy for the church - in that social justice mainly consist of 1) more illegal immigrants (who are heavily Catholic) being let into the country and 2) more social welfare (freeing up the Church's welfare system to focus on more stuff).

Though I love the Catholic education my children have received they are each required to take a "Social Justice" class before graduating high school. One of my proudest moments was when my oldest, sitting in her Social Justice class, was asked what she thought about the Sadam Hussein hanging.

"It was wrong" she replied.

The instructor followed up with "because no one has the right to kill one of God's creatures?"

"No" my oldest replied "because it wasn't broadcast on public television. I would have watched."

50 I recently wrote, not on AllanG’s blog, about Tesla Motors being fined for not having their car tested for direct emissions. Tesla makes all-electric vehicles; the vehicles have no emissions. So, imagine that you are in this company’s position. You’ve got the funds to hire one new position (you would have had funds for two, but you had to downsize your plans after paying that fine), and you’ve got two proposals on your desk. One will hire a new engineer, an expert in battery design, because you know that to make your cars more successful, you need to push battery technology forward. You’ve even got someone in mind for this new position, Pacific Tech graduate Chris Knight, who has already revolutionized power delivery in the laser industry. This position will produce innovative new technologies for your vehicle line.

Your second choice is an expert in regulation conformance. You’ve got someone in mind for this position, too, a twenty-year executive at General Motors, who has years of experience navigating federal and state red tape. In order to avoid new hundred-thousand-dollar fines, this position will have veto authority over any new technologies proposed for your vehicle line.

Which position will you approve? And what does that do for the state of innovation in your industry?

Well, here we are. See link in name.

Trivial. Sterilize a fresh single edge razor blade or X-acto and the area with alcohol. Cut the suture on one end with the blade, douse in alcohol again and pull out with tweasers.

You don't want the cut end being pulled through to drag along bacteria through, so double/triple dousing during/after the process is in order.

Just to be sure, cover with a bandaid and some bacitracin for a day or two until the little holes fill in.

The sutures are pretty tough, it ain't like cutting a thread.

I took six out of my knee myself last year.

We need a Fair Share© line in the 1040 tax forms.

Let's see how much Warren Buffett wants to pay.

Fair Share

88 I'm by no means an expert on the subject, but I think the thing these "progressive Catholics" fail to understand is that you cannot coerce charity because if you do, it's no longer charity.

My kids' Catholic middle school had mandatory "volunteer" hours.

The school board did not appreciate it when I showed up for a meeting and gave them a dictionary as a present.

93 This brings to mind two things. The first is when Microsoft was going through it's own trial by government and Bill Gates was told the problem was that Microsoft refused to play the lobbying game. Needless to say, the lobbying budget went from effectively nothing to several million dollars overnight.

The next is Veronica saying to Ted in Better Off Ted that Veridian Dynamics only pays taxes to countries more powerful than it and there's only four of those left.

109 Though I love the Catholic education my children have received they are each required to take a "Social Justice" class before graduating high school. One of my proudest moments was when my oldest, sitting in her Social Justice class, was asked what she thought about the Sadam Hussein hanging. "It was wrong" she replied. The instructor followed up with "because no one has the right to kill one of God's creatures?" "No" my oldest replied "because it wasn't broadcast on public television. I would have watched."

Heh. I would have liked to have seen that exchange.

Also, how the heck does a Christian say that "no one has the right to kill one of God's creatures?" Has the Catholic Church gone full-Marcion?

111 There's a study I read about earlier today that the average family spends some $15,000 a year complying with government regulations--and that's before Obamacare kicks in.

Gee, isn't our modern society great?

Reminds me, I read that story from the ONT.
Individual freedom didn't come about as we tamed the wilderness--it was absolutely necessary in order to attempt taming the wilderness.
Now that we think we've tamed the wilderness, some we think we can discard the messiness of individual freedom.
But, the wilderness is growing, it's consumed our inner cities and is gnawing at the edges; we keep feeding it and it grows; the Middle East rolls about in its belly, driving it on.
That's the thing about chaos and disorder--it never rests, even after you think you've beaten it.

That wilderness must soon be tamed or it will surely come after us. The political class has made the calculation they are well insulated. But the blade it wields cuts a rich man's neck same as the poor.

Me? I say let a thousand thistles bloom. Teaches a man what he must and must not allow, to keep alert and responsible.

I have an uber Catholic Seminarian friend who when I asked him about what he thought about Francis said "I like him, this dude is going to make leftist heads explode, because he's about the things the Leftists claim to be about when they really just want power." (May not be a direct quote.)

So far it seems as such. When he says "Take care of the poor" he doesn't mean "pass a law to do it." He means "you do it yourself, on your own initiative with your own money."

There is a great line from the 8th centuryLife of Saint Boniface to the effect that the world is continually falling into disorder and only by dint of constant work and prayer are we able to maintain a little order.

I always felt that this view was a better understanding of reality than the modern idea of continual, inevitable progress.
