I don't comment here very often, but I read the blog every day and from so doing have come to feel that I "know" you all well enough to ask the following:
This morning my 16 year old niece underwent surgery to remove a mass from her brain. Everything went well and she is resting comfortably, but she and our family are now "sweating out" the results of the biopsy.
I know there is a vast diversity of religious and philosophical beliefs amongst the Moron Horde, and so I ask that you offer up any prayers, thoughts, or positive energies you can for the recovery of this wonderful child.

Romney's response to the Cairo tweet was correct. It was timely. It was not a mistake. It was clearly devastating, given the immediate attack it produced.
It was also effective because it forces people to evaluate Romney against Obama in this context, instead of allowing last week to be the Obama show. If he hadn't made the statement, he would have been ignored for a week, exactly like Obama and the MSM wanted.
Much like Mediscare, this didn't work out like they expected. The people claiming this "hurt Romney" are the people who are wish him the most harm. They don't offer an objective opinion.

This is like the Ohio poll they put out at the request of Obama almost two weeks ago. Ohio +5 for Obama, but once you reweight the sample it is Romney +3.

Second, I would like to point out how humane they are, it is documented fact that when they are chopping off hands and feet they often use a local anesthetic in saudi arabia. I am not 100% if you get your hand back as a keepsake ashtray or not...but i have heard rumors.

As strange at is sounds, Romney is not “struggling to stay even.” Most of the battleground states are traditional Repub turf, and O has yet to break 50% in any battleground state poll, even those with a tremendous skew towards D.
Everyone is waiting for O to be crushed, putting the onus on R to do it after nominating Ryan. Why not think about it another way–that O has yet to break 50% in any battleground state, and even in MI he can’t do that. Polls in mid Sept that are within the margin of error are just that–within the margin of error. Not exactly the place to be as an incumbent, and his campaign, which only won in the past due to a severe financial crisis in 2008 and personal attacks in 2006, is doing the only thing they can do–deflect and spin. Great piece in the NYT today, discussing Iowa. It is a microcosm of the election in general. Everyone is disgusted with O, especially those who voted for him last time. The one guy is the piece who supported O is only doing it because “he doesn’t want O to fail.” That’s it–no other reason, no other policy decision. If that’s the best O can do, it’s not going to be enough.
We don’t want R to be complacent. Maybe all of this armchair quarterbacking from the same crowd who didn’t like R in the primaries will help. One thing, though, all you Joe Scarbouroughs, there is one thing we all have to do–kick O out of office on his butt. The Repubs could nominate a rotten banana, and you all better get out there and vote.
This is about turning a lightweight far left egomaniac out of office before he can do any real, lasting damage. It isn’t so much about who is running against him.
Hopefully nobody ever, ever forgets that.

If the Arabs were protesting over the production values of the anti-Mohammed movie I can sympathize with their anger.
Gosh, the dialogue and the scenery--I'd riot too, I guess.
Maybe this was the Arab way of giving the film "two thumbs down?"
Or is this perhaps their way of rating films like Rotten Tomatoes? Is there some cultural divide here that we have missed?

We know her career path. She pushed aside all qualified and loyal New York State Democrats (Nita Lowey comes to mind) so she could run in the deepest Blue State that suited her fancy without a difficult race. She tried to be the president but was out “race carded” as her pervert husband put it.
To stay in the public’s eye she accepted the position of Secretary of State and has done an horrifically bad job at it. That happens when being a good Democrat is the only consideration for appointment to a position of high trust and importance.
For reasons know only to her she successfully urged Barack Obama to help the Muslim Brotherhood over throw the American friendly Mubarack government in Egypt and help the Brotherhood kill Gadhafi in Libya.
Then she installed a man she knew to be Gay (she said she knew him well) as the Ambassador to a country controlled by vicious Gay hating animals. She did this to win favor with America’s Gay community so they would keep contributing to the Democrat Party. Now Chris Stevens has been killed and sodomized by the people Hillary Clinton helped put in power throughout the Middle East. This goes beyond incompetence into the realm of criminal negligence. That poor man was a human sacrifice to the god of Political Correctness.

If that were true they would have blown the whole world up over any ScyFy movie. It looked about the same quality. The clothes in this movie were cleaner, though. I've never seen an arab in my life that had clothes that clean.
But how would the muz know, anyway? The movie was in English. Subtitles wouldn't make a difference since the muslim world is about the most illiterate population on Earth ... even with trillions of petro-dollars stupidly being laid on them because we allowed the savages to steal the gulf oil fields.

Obviously, being informed conservatives, I'm sure you're all aware that militarily it was actually a failure, but from a media standpoint, it was fantastic. It was a turning point in the public concluding it was hopeless.
Libya is the one country that was part of the Arab Spring that had a secular government win. Gaddafi had a pseudo-religious cult built around him and living under it left the populace more antagonistic to religious government than they have been elsewhere.
So, having not won the election and looking for another way to get in power, this is how the Islamist fundamentalists can do it. They want the American public pissed at Libya. They want the America to stop helping Libya's government, so they can come into power. Obviously, there's a lot to be angry at, but as far as judging the country, that election means more than an Al Qaeda hit or even the protests.
Now, obviously there are other places that are part of the Arab Spring that are much more extremist. All polls I've seen of the Egyptian populace show them as being pretty fundamentalist.
The hit happened in Libya, not Egypt and not Tunisia, for a reason, though. Don't fall for it.

Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. She just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes.
For once she had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it's too much, but seeing the strength in my young daughter's voice helped me to get through.

I'm gonna have to dissagree on the whole "it wasn't the video" defence by conservatives. It WAS the video, which it is why it is soaggregious. The sheer and utter trifling lameness of it speakes volumes. Whether it's the coptic christian who makes the ramshackle video, the mainstreet baker who doesn't appropriately remove bacon grease from his cheddar scone recipe, or the jokester at the local community dance who tells a few too many muslim jokes, all are now succeptible to the violent jihad mob rage, and corresponding involvementby our federal agents to police these new quasi crimes.
My suggestion to conservatives is not to shy away from this being a response to the video. To shy away is to tacitly admit that it was 'wrong' for the video to be made, rather than to confront the sheer lunacy that the federal government will now police the minutia to appease the Muslim hoard.

Pretty sure the various Christian faiths don't really have a formal policy calling for "Death to unbelievers!" although I am sure you can find a psychopath or two that will claim Christianity as his "religion of choice".

The problem with WoW's new expansion isn't the pandas. I don't have a
problem with that. I don't even really mind the vanity pet cockfighting
ring, although I do think it's very, very dumb.
The real problem,
IMO, is the talent tree overhaul. Every character will lose two out of
every three of his current bread-and-butter skills under this shitty, shitty new
system. Sure, things will probably be tweaked a bit to let characters
continue to be effective... but they won't be as fun to play.

People don't live in oil fields. They are the easiest land to hold. They will need to be defended, of course, but the fields should be defended right now, too - as oil is the lifeblood of the world (not the arab world, of course. They could blow the fields up and not feel much of anything, as we saw with the Iran-Iraq war and with what the other Hussein did with oil in the GUlf War). Oil is the world's most important resource that already needs the sort of defense that you are talking about. Better that we should be doing it than suicide-bombing arabs and persians, who can't be trusted with anything of value.
The cost of this maintenance, of course, is tiny in comparison to the flow from the fields and the private companies getting the contracts to pump would be doing most of the defense requirements. Better to have to defend easily defended oil fields than having to worry about the serious threats all over the world and in all spheres that those fields support from the arab/persian/muslim world.
They had their chance. They stole the fields and were allowed to keep them for 50 years. They got trillions of free petro-dollars. What do they have to show for that money? Nothing. Nothing but destruction and mayhem and costing everyone else in the world (most importantly, US) to defend against them. Enough already, I say.
They did build a couple of mile high office towers in the desert ... where land is at such a premium ... there is that.

True story. I usually got off work an hour or so before the wifey, so I did the pickup from daycare routine. So I pick up the two rugrats, and the puke started flying before I could get them in the house. Both of them, repeatedly. Me too once. So I corral them in the dining room where there was no carpet, do a bit of gag mopping, and call the wife. "Are you going to be home on time? Cuz I'm dying here. If you don't hurry, there will be puke for three awaiting you."

Actually, the better argument is that they shook hands on a deal, the West moved in and did the heavy lifting, then they expropriated the results. If the old deals were revisited and paid for -- based on the price of oil today after a subsequent 50 years of mismanagement and blackmail -- the resulting payments would wipe out any value accumulated in the countries involved.

In addition to the right to free speech, Americans believe that with freedom comes responsibility, and individuals are responsible for their own behavior. We don't punish someone for another person's bad behavior. In other words, if your people riot, kill or destroy, they are entirely responsible for those behaviors. Therefor we will not change our laws or bend to Sharia in any way because that would punish the innocent, not to mention our constitution prevents that. Actually, there's a good practical reason to punish a host country for damages to embassies and ambassadors. Countries have a lot of things going on, and must prioritize where resources will be allocated. It's very easy for a government to put the security of ambassadors at somewhere between "clean toilets in the national parks" and "streetlights on country roads."
If having an embassy invaded and ambassador killed meant more than a diplomatic contretemps -- as in, carpet-bombing a major city, perhaps -- then the priorities would be clarified for future ambassadors. As it is, if I were on the US diplomatic staff in any predominately Muslim country, my notice would be in and I would in GTFO mode.

In the short term. But perhaps you've noticed the rapidly increasing costs of energy these last ten or fifteen years? Consumption in most of the rest of the world is outpacing production, especially in China, India, and Africa (which is drilling everywhere they can). Cheaper oil will fuel their industrialization. The Arabs will not go bust. They have PLENTY of other customers.

Oh, I absolutely agree with that. We have vast energy resources right here in North America that we could exploit, if our own damn government would get out of the way.

A few hundred pounds of explosives at the right depth will shut down a field, and the Arabs are absolutely incapable of efficiently repair. Doesn't mean they won't get Chinese or Europeans to do it, though. Waster effort, IMHO.
Re: Energy independence as a way to bankrupt the Middle East. If only. But we only get something like 18% of our energy (and falling) from them. Europe, China, Japan, and India are far more dependent (in case you ever wondered why the Europeans are so absurdly pro-Arab, wonder no more; well, that and they hate Jews). So while if we could use our own energy rather than importing it would be convenient for us, but it will hardly put the screws to the Arabs. Rather, it will withdraw our primary strategic interest in the region as well as our leverage; if we aren't elbow deep in the oil trade, why would the Saudis give a fuck about our opinions?
We do not live in a vacuum. American action and consumption is not the end-all of foreign policy. But it is a peculiar conceit of Americans, for some reason, though it tends to affect liberals worse. Example: "We have to ban X to save the earth!!1!" Well, what about the billions of people in Asia who think you're a fucking moron, and are grateful that the price of X has fallen and will how use the hell out of it to advance their societies, pumping more X into the ecosystem than you ever dreamed of? Each flatscreen TV sold in a Walmart is a very complex signal about the real world. It used to be said that a sale was Materials + Labor + Overhead + Profit, but that was a tad simplistic. There is a level of technology, or "know-how" in each component. There is an element of stewardship, as well -- you can just keep hiring more people when they fall into the chipper-shredder, or you can have safety classes; you can dump nastiness from your factory into the environment, or you can treat it to a reasonably safe standard. And, for every part of the formula, there is an energy input -- which can be as gross as "is it more efficient to ship the parts halfway around the planet for assembly, or should I build each unit on-site?"
If China -- who steals know-how right-and-left and cares not a whit for dumping toxins onto their own land (not to mention shared resources like air and oceans) can get their energy cheaper as well, then more stuff will be built in China and less will be built here.....no matter how skilled, educated, virtuous, environmentally-aware, or unionized the workforce is here.
We should be working night-and-day, 24/7/365, to protect our know-how, make our stewardship cost-effective, and cheapen our energy whether at home or abroad, in order to shift the global flow of resources to our benefit, or we'll be a bunch of retail clerks selling boxes of imported goods to each other.

The issue had already been covered in my original posts about "forced nationalizations" and the fact that the arabs and persians didn't build diddly-shit, which rick was adding to. And they didn't build anything. The friggin Saudis STILL can't maintain the fields without foreign expertise. The point of stating that is not that that fact entitles us to take them - it doesn't - but to impress what backward dipshits they are.
Not only that, but they don't even really use the oil which is why our security is threatened by their lack of need of the wells for anything other than holding "the oil weapon" over the West (first used in force in 1973 and threatened over the last years). I also addressed this point in my earlier posts by giving the information that they attack the oil in order to harm us and they really don't give a shit about the wells all becoming totally unusable by anyone (which the world cannot afford). This was seen in the Iran-Iraq war as well as in the first gulf war (which included no only trying to destroy the fields in Kuwait but intentionally dumping te times as much oil into the gulf as the Exxon Valdez did by accident, as we all know that Exxon wanted that oil to get to market more than anything). There have been other threats to the wells, from inside the arab/persian world, that people have to take seriously. They are SUICIDE BOMBERS. Attacking oil that the rest of the world needs is just the world's biggest suicide bomb and it's one they have ready access to.
The point at which the arab/persian/muslim world weaponized oil (as they did in 73 and spoke about after 2001) is the point at which those fields became targets for us to seize, as the first lesson of any war is to cut off the supplies and weapons of the enemy. They made the wells into weapons, not us. The wells, thus, must be treated as weapons, in addition to being treated as the source of all supplies and power that make the arab/persian/muslim world any sort of serious threat to civilization, as they clearly have been for a very long time.
You could definitely argue that they owe SOMETHING, but I'm seeing that they ever sold all the rights to all their oil to anybody.
I am excited to see the suggestion that we develop our own resources, and tell those psychos to go f-themselves. Their oil fields are at maturity - we should be seeing them wane in importance over the next few decades.

If they had behaved like half-civilized people, even, this wouldn't be an issue. More than fair game, they are what much of the action revolves around. It would cost much less than it costs to have OPEC collude on prices. Much less than pretty much very cost we've shouldered for a very long time. And it would be paid for by the fields, themselves.

They need security, now. Who secures the gulf? Can we afford to have arab countries blowing the fields up, now, if they decide that's the best way to attack the West? Just because we don't the proper security on the fields at this point doesn't mean that it needn't be there. What's happening with the gas lines into Israel from Sinai? Well, extrapolate that scenario out in a few years and then see what will be necessary.
Of course, we won't do it, but not because of any costs. We won't do it because we're stupid (even without the enemy occupooping the White House who is only looking to harm America every way he can, anyway).

Yeah, what indeed? Speaking from a point of view the same as yours (sorta) a month ago, just keep going to the doctor. And I was underprescribed, which may be your case, also. I think Dr.s are tryingnot to prescribe too many antibiotics, because they are over-prescribed. But there's a huge difference between an imaginary flu that's really just a cold, and a staph or MRSA infection. You let that cold go for a while, it cures itself. Let that MRSA go... different outcome. I only got better after I went to the ER where they prescribed a way huger amount of antibiotics.
Credits to all the people on this thread who said almost the exact same thing to me5 weeks ago.

You should start doing MYO cigarettes. $1.20/pack. $2/pack for the hoity-toity designer tobacco. Very good tasting cigarettes. I have several tobaccos that I really like. I used to be a very heavy smoker and went through Camels, Marlboros (all sorts), Merit Ultra Lights (when I was trying to cut down a bit) and had been smoking Pall Malls since 2007, when the taxes started getting really out of control. Switched to MYO in 2010. My MYO cigarettes are better than all of them in my book. I buy at "rollyourown dot com". Check it out. All legal, but it won't last much longer, I don't think.

No, they're not done, yet. WHat happened was that shops that make the cigarettes for their customers were shut. It was those cigarette making machines that you're talking about. I still buy bulk tobacco for about $1/oz ... $17/lb, really. I also have some premium tobaccos that go for around $30/lb. Each cigarette takes around 0.8 grams of tobacco. This is not loose cigarette tobacco, which has the $25/lb tax on it, but pipe tobacco or "dual use". The only difference in the tobaccos is the cut, not the tobacco, itself. But they are talking about raising the taxes on those tobaccos (which has not happened yet) since sale of dual use/pipe tobacco has gone from 3 million lbs/year to over 30 million.
Currently I have 3 years worth of tobacco (though I'm a bit short on tubes, at the moment) but I'm going to buy some more ... just in case. You can get 5lb bags of good Kentucky Select Red tobacco for $75.

Yeah, they screwed over the shops that were buying the tobacco that I buy and then using the big injection machines to fill the tubes for their customers at the store. Typical government bullshit, of course. Most of the customers probably just bought their own home machines and do it on their own, now. The stores and the factory are SOL, though, as you said.

Thats the best part. Snow, rain, car don't start. whatever, you never need to leave the house for a pack of smokes, you always got a shitload. You're right about people not knowing about it. The crazier part is you tell them until you're blue in the face and they don't get it until they actually see you make one. I had a friend come up from florida, and I told him for 3 years to do this. I explained it to him every possible way. The tubes are done, filters and all, just add tobacco and pull the fucking lever. he still couldn't understand until he saw it, then it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can zip out a pack faster than it takes me to go to the store.

I've tried it. I'm still working through a pound of it. It has a bit of a different taste for me. I like it, but I usually mix it with 1839 or Farmer's Gold, though every so often I get into a real Golden Harvest mood. That price is really something else. I'm going to buy some of their store brand, too.
The tube prices there are pretty cool. The Vera Cruzes are cheap as shit. They're great tubes, though the long filters make them a bit of a hassle to inject.

"Cigarette" tobacco is taxed at something like $25/lb. "Pipe" and "dual use" tobaccos are only taxed at something like $1.50/lb. The only real difference is that pipe tobacco is cut longer than cigarette tobacco, but that makes for a very decent cigarette that holds together well. Same tobaccos for many brands, just different cuts to avoid the tax.

Then again, I get no additive 100% Turkish cigs for $1.70 a pack. I make a lot of them while reading AoS threads so it is a twofer.
They are already trying to lose this 'loophole'; ie, they want more tax dollars. I've already investigated buying the seeds to plant my own tobacco.
I guess I should invest in making my own ethanol products too.

The Topomatic is what I use. It's the second injection machine I've bought, and compared to the first, it's built like a tank, and works great.
Someone mentioned the futility of explaining the roll your own method to other people....yeah. I have a friend who's paying 8 bucks a pack, and when I casually mention that I spend the same amount for a carton, he quickly changes the subject. He's moving to North Carolina soon...and he assures me that cigarettes there cost only ten dollars a carton. He'll soon have his rude awakening.
Another good tobacco is 'The Good Stuff', it's blended pipe/cigarette, and a six ounce bag costs between 5 and 6 dollars, and is enough for a carton. Adding in the cost of tubes at just under 2 dollars, and an entire carton costs me just under 8 dollars.
