Breaking: Shaggy, Shambling Man-Child Believes Political Expression is "Creepy"

I wish I could call Zak Galifanakis a no-talent, but he's not. He's a funny guy.

But wise he is not. He's a goof, the sort of bumbling bohemian who is able to feed himself only because he's got one high-paying skill, and remains childlike in his ignorance about how other people make their rent. Or how the Magic Wires put Magic Beams in his lightbulbs.

There is always a culture clash between those who understand how productive industry actually works and those who gape at it like savages, believing it to be some kind of Heap Big White Man Magic. And where there is Magic, there are Sorcerors and Demons; for most people, particularly those of the primitive mindset, the large cloud of Unknowns is filled in by their imaginations with malice, conspiracy, and deviltry.

Zak Galifanakis will remain deeply suspicious of how the White Sorcerors called the Koch Brothers make their money; he will never question why he himself is being paid around $10 million per movie (and a shoot is about two months long, so that's $10 million for 60 days' work -- if that).

He understands his own good fortune -- "I'm funny, so of course I get paid more in two months than 95% of Americans and 99.9% of the world will be paid in a long lifetime" -- but not that of others. Others' fortune -- the non-bohemian types, those of the alien tribe -- must be the work of sorcery.

But now with Galifianakis bad-mouthing the conservative duo off screen, the Koch brothers are reminding people that he's just an actor.
In the comedy, actors Dan Aykroyd and John Lithgow play the Motch brothers, who are financially backing the implausible candidate portrayed by Galifianakis. In an interview with the New York Daily News on Monday, Galifianakis said it's "pretty obvious" the characters are based on Charles and David Koch.
"I disagree with everything they do. They are creepy and there is no way around that. It's not freedom what they are doing," Galifianakis said when asked about the Koch brothers.

What the Koch brothers are doing isn't "freedom." Freedom will exist when laws are passed to restrain the Koch brothers from doing what they choose to do.

Then, see, that will be freedom. Freedom, properly understood, is the fruit of government coercion, you must understand. If a man chooses to act or believe in a way that is contrary to the teachings of Barack Obama (or his lesser, stonier disciple Zak Galifanakis), then that man is not truly free.

He will be free when he is forced to act or believe in the proper fashion. Only then, only by action of the state, only by liberation through bondage, will be freed from his sins and ensorcellments.

I don't see having loathsome opinions as the basis for whether a person is funny or not.

It is a basis for deciding to avoid sending any money their way. There are plenty of other people who are very funny but whose political opinions are a complete unknown to me. They can vote however they like and I won't care. But if they trade their celebrity for the gain of a cause they favor and I abhor, they've lost me as a potential customer.

At this point, my likelihood of ever buying another DVD or Blu-ray is very low. I'll just download and watch that with the knowledge I can alway reward the worthy after the fact if I choose.

I watched "Old School" a few months ago (well, part of it) again, and it was just stupid. Not funny on repeat viewings. I couldn't bear to watch more than about 20 minutes of "Old School" without turning it off.

We've been, in part , conditioned to accept and like a lot of stuff that is frankly shit. After all you've seen in life is shit, how can you tell the difference between shit and something of actual value? I think that is the real message in all this. Zak Galifinakis, like his peers, just purveys shit. And they tell us it's great, but it is just shit. Whatever Zak's real talent is, it has been bent to sell shit. I think that Galifinakis himself doesn't know the difference, really. He could be trained to swim in shit and tell us all how great it was, and some people would believe him.

If you have ever seen the movie "Trainspotting", then you know this to be true. They will sell us shit and tell us it's great.

The only reason the original Anchorman was funny was because the producers and editors hacked the living shit out of the original shitty director's version. What you saw in theaters was not what the original movie. The original movie was ass-retarded, as revealed by the 'alternate/original' version sold as "Wake Up, Ron Burgundy". The entire original plot was scrapped, and essentially an entire new movie -- drastically different from what was originally intended by director Adam McKay -- was created and put into theaters.

Seriously, look at everything Adam McKay puts his hands on. It all SUCKS. He, like Brett Ratner, only has a career because producers and editors parachute in and save his ass once every few movies.

I doubt they care that much. One single successful movie has generated more income for the Dick estate than his his entire written works in his lifetime and since. The guy was very much a starving artist type. Also utterly insane, as attested by several people I know who knew him when he lived in LA and was a regular at LASFS. So long as Hollywood pays for their use of his material, what happens on the print side just doesn't amount to much worth getting excited about.
