An Illustration of Some Crony Capitalism There: Sarah Palin's Alaska Took Federal Funds To Increase Access to... Gardasil

This right there is what I'm talkin' about with this crony capitalism and Mr. Obama there pickin' the winners and losers.

( Juneau, Alaska) ─ The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services announced today that an increase in federal funding will make it possible for all Alaska girls ages 9 through 18 to receive Gardasil ®, the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, at no cost.

[Editorial comment by PJM:]
At no direct cost, perhaps. But being federally funded, it had a cost. Millions of Americans outside Alaska bore that cost, involuntarily.

Earlier this spring, the department had said it could provide free Gardasil only to Alaska girls who met certain eligibility requirements. Since then, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provided additional funds for Alaska to obtain more vaccine. This boost in federal aid will enable more Alaska girls to receive Gardasil. Distribution of this vaccine to providers is just beginning, so state health officials suggest calling providers before visiting local clinics to find out if the vaccine is available.

“We are thrilled that this unanticipated funding will allow us to provide the vaccine for all eligible girls,” said Laurel Wood, Alaska’s immunization program manager. “Although we have no guarantee that this funding will be available in future years, we hope to immunize as many Alaska girls as possible while we have this unique opportunity.”

How much money did she take from Merck? Bear in mind, federal dollars roll in to pay for this. And who gets paid? Merck. These crony capitalists with the pickin' the winners and the losers like Mr. Obama over there. I'm proud to post this because like Sarah Palin said we have to keep each other accountable and never mind the 11th Commandment we have to point out this there crony capitalism where we see it you betcha.

Thanks to "lu."

Was I Dreaming? I could have sworn that last night on Greta, The Only True Conservative Fighter Who Can Save us announced that we had to put aside the 11th Commandment and vet all candidates with negative information, because that's the only way we "keep each other accountable."

Did I dream that?

Well, I just checked the tape again, and no, I didn't dream that. She said that.

But apparently when she said we have to vet all candidates, I'm to have understood that as "all candidates except Sarah Palin," according to Sarah Palin's fans, who think their True Conservative fighter gets to sit on the sidelines lobbing spitballs and if you toss one back you're guilty of a hate crime.

What is it about Gardasil that's making people freak out? The fact that one company makes it? There is another vaccine out there from GSK called Cervarix that does the same thing. Baring any other vaccines, it'll be Gardasil or Cervarix given to states for distribution.

Again, what's the problem here if all 50 states are asking for it?

I don't get it. What does Crony Capitalism (i.e., corruption) have to do with this?

Corruption is when a big Obama donor (Martin Guitars) gets the FBI to raid his competitor (Gibson Guitars), twice.

Corruption
is when your (Perry's) Chief of Staff gets hired by a drug company as a
thank you for getting your boss to mandate a vaccine with questionable cost-benefit.

Getting federal funds to augment a state program is hardly corruption. Your Perry-love is blinding you, Ace.

138 I guess I need to point out that the government has to buy it's stuff from SOMEWHERE. Merck holds the patent on Gardasil - if a government wishes to institute a VOLUNTARY vaccination program for Gardasil, that doesn't make it 'crony capitalism'. In the case of drugs, many times there is ONLY one source because of patents.

This is ridiculous. Palin didn't try to force people to get the vaccine; apparently we can't see the difference between these two scenarios.

The discussion should be centered around whether the Feds or the State Government SHOULD do this, and if they SHOULD mandate it.

I like Perry, but this issue and the immigration stuff bothers me. Trying via EO really, really concerns me - it says 'I'm smarter than you.'

The "independent" state of Alaska gets huge per-capita subsidies. Half of the stuff "Alaska" pays for is really the government. It's subsidy central.

So Alaska doesn't have to mandate jack (in order to get insurers to pay); they just take those sweet sweet subsidies from other states to pay for their social programs.

The Guardian (no friend of Sarah Palin) linked to this page on the "National Institute On Money In State Politics" website. It is a breakdown of the donors contributing to Palin's 2002 lt. governor's bid and her successful 2006 governor's race. No Merck or any other pharmaceuticals listed. Furthermore, the biggest percentage of political donations by far came from individuals.

LINK (pdf file)

Oh, and here's something included on the linked page:

Due to Alaska’s relatively strict campaign finance laws, where corporate contributions are banned and PACs could only give $1,000 per year during the 2006 elections, businesses and PACs gave a collective total of only $34,874, or 2.6 percent of the total.

Even those who dislike her are energized into arguing their positions vehemently. The Left in general responds to, and attacks her when they are on the defensive, and the White House does as well. Her use of a medium as simple as Facebook generates panicked derision from Lefty enclaves and the Hill itself feels the need to answer her challenges. Every argument on the 'net is framed against Palin. She's contributed greatly to conservatism simply by doing what she does, and galvanizing everyone on both sides of the Republican party into action.Put bluntly, she's the most effective firebrand the Right has. Disagreeing with her actions, methods, or policies is understandable; arguing that she's done nothing for the cause is outright idiotic.

It's not really a "mandate." Their own policies, which they wrote, said they'd cover 'mandatory" vaccinations. SO if perry classifies this as "mandatory" (even though there is an opt-out), it's covered.

It's their own policies. By use of that word, Perry put them on the hook for the costs, but then, they could have rewritten to exclude gardasil, but they probably wouldn't, because that would be dumb.

What the fuck does this matter? I need someone to explain this to me -- how does Perry benefit here?

The idea seems to be that Perry is such a great guy he makes big
decisions on behalf of friends, with no benefit flowing to he himself.

This is like the lefty claim that Cheney started the war in Iraq to benefit his "friends" at Halliburton.

Um, does he really like his friends that much?

If she couldn't (and she hasn't) repair her reputation and become viable in the last year and a half, with all of the spotlight she got, why should I believe that she can do it in the next year?

He was terrible, Ace, terrible. And I understand how we want to leap to his defense and that has a tendency to shade our impressions of such things, but his second half of the debate was disastrously poor. As you said in the liveblog, I'm grading less on policy than on style and salesmanship (i.e. I care about WINNING), and Perry's second half was implosively bad in the way he miserably handled Bachmann's BS attacks on Gardasil (the "I'm offended if you think I can be bought for only $5,000" seems, the more I think about it, to be epically bad), and his awful non-responses on the immigration stuff. I don't even care about the policies themselves so much as I do about the candidate's ability to spin them with some nice-sounding patter that gets them past the hump. And Perry

His first half was pretty great, we both agree. His second half tore a huge gaping hole into his candidacy, IMO, and unless he improves the next time out in a serious way I'm going to reconsider Team Romney. Because say what you will about Mitt, the guy hasn't been caught out a single time by anyone on any subject, and it matters.

Better this comes up now though so he sharpen his ability to explain his actions down the road and turn the focus on something more important, like Obama destroying our country and stuff.

The point being that while "mandatory with an opt-out" and "voluntary" are functionally equivalent as to whether a person is required to get the vaccine in order to attend school, etc., they are vastly different when it comes to who pays for the drug. And IIRC, this one was pretty expensive.

Maybe the fact that Perry defenders are talking about everything but Perry's performance indicates what they really thought of it Hey, hyper-genius. The fucking debates were ENTIRELY ABOUT RICK PERRY. Because he's the front-runner, ya fuckin' dummy. All your ankle-biting, yappy-dog, Palin-stroking faggotry is meaningless, and here's why: The nominee is going to be Perry or Romney. Pick one. Even if your beloved Saragrizzlycudamom enters the race, she still doesn't get the nomination. And she doesn't care, anyway. EOJ - its 14 months till VO Day. Right now Perry had better demonstrate he can handle barking baboons or he is done. Romney is stuck at his current numbers and prays the others kill themselves off to have a chance. That leaves only Newt or a candidate to be named later. If you criticize her, expect that people who like her will defend her. This will happen with any candidate.

I don't think what she's doing now is helpful to the GOP winning the presidency next year, but I don't think the circular firing squads are that helpful either.

One thing folks should keep in mind is that politicians, like you and I, are not perfect and will make mistakes. So nobody should expect perfection (you won't get it, especially among politicians for goodness' sakes).

Hey man, it would be good news to me. I'm on Team Perry, though I'll admit that his shaky debate performances (and Romney's acing of them) is making me waver. I consider them to be far more of a wash in terms of actual political outcomes as President than a number of others here do (with Perry slightly better), so my primary criterion is electability.

And even if nobody was watching THIS debate, they will be watching the Presidential debates vs. Obama, who is a notorious cockpuncher when it comes to fighting dirty. Moreover, people might not have seen last night's debate, but the answers on immigration and HPV will reverberate throughout the GOP primary voting base for weeks to come. So good performances matter, a lot. To me, at least.

I suppose I'm quite different from most people on this site (whether the bigtime Perry partisans or the invested Romney fans) in that I like both equally as much, more or less. I really don't understand or get the visceral "I HATE MITT" crap that some people like to spew...seems like a replay of the 2010 "RINO-hunting" mania for some of those folks.

BTW, I think I might just be back to voting for Mickey Mouse if Bachmann were to win the nomination. Sorry, but mainstreaming anti-vax propaganda puts you over that line for me. She's now fallen beneath Ron Paul in my list of acceptable candidates.

426 Palin didn't mandate the vaccine.. Perry did.. Perry mandated this over the heads of the Texas legisture.. A vaccine that hadn't been testedfor a long period of time..Merck onlyfollowed the patients tested with this drug for 18 to 30 months.. Incubation for cervical cancer could be 15 to 30 years..Given to girls usually in the middle of puberty, when the body is changing and growing.. Givenfor ansexually transmitted disease.. This is not a cancer vaccine, it is a drug that is supposed to help prevent an STD that may lead to cancer.. The test subjects for this drug are in high school and college now.. We won't know whatkind of side affects will occur for years.. Have there been anystudies on girls that have recieved this drug? Any fertility studies?
There is lots of info on the internet about Gardasil and a whole lot of it is scary stuff. I have 4 kids and 2 grandbabies, everyone of them up to date on their vacinations. But there is no way in hell I was giving an untested drug to my girls, period..
Perry said he made a mistake now.. Big deal.. He had absolutely no problem at all mandating that girls in Texas receive this drug. That is the big daddy/big goverment thinking that should make everyone pay attention to what else he is doing.

Perry thinks those that oppose the Texas Dream Act care about "last names" or otherwise are bigoted.

He doesn't care how they got here meaning he'll offer up in-state tuition to an adult who crosses the border illegally and then waits for 3 years.

And it has been reported he opposes E-Verify.

It sounds more and more like La Raza.

Troubling. I was expecting more of a humanitarian defense of the Dream Act, but got a facefull of George W. and La Raza talking points.

I'm sorry, but he had better fix this NOW, or I'm out of the Perry camp.

448 I thought Romney was bad last night.

As far as Perry and the attacks -- I thought he did fine.

His performance was okay. Yes, I think the 'I'm offended" line was fine, because it really was not a bribe-level amount of money.

The reason his defenses didn't seem so good is, frankly, his policies on these two points are unpopular with the harder-core parts of the party. That is, the substance is a problem.

I don't really have a serious problem with the immigration thing... though I do have some problem. He is weaker on immigration that I would like.

But then, so are most people. NumbersUSA gave Perry a D- on immigration. They gave Bachmann a C. They gave Romney a D.

And Palin... well Palin of course is always excused by her supporters for supporting McCain's amnesty.

But I don't excuse her.

In fact, the politics of this are rather hard.

454 I am a researcher in virology so perhaps my faith in vaccines is
stronger then most, but 70% of Cervical Cancers are due to HPV and HPV
is a virus that travels also through other contacts not just sexual.

Yes there is a big difference between mandating a vaccine, and accepting federal funds for it if you are talking about the impetus for those two actions.

What Mrs Palin did, unfortunately, is accuse Perry of a motivation of Crony Capitalism. If the mandate was done for protecting citizens from a horrible disease it is stupid but not evil, but if Perry moved ahead with the motivation of profiting from the mandate then it is wrong. Ace's point is that, because she used this platform to attack from she opens herself up on this front. If she was getting donations from Merck (I will almost guarantee she wasn't) for increasing the purchasing of the vaccine then that is just as much Crony Capitalism.

I for one do not think that either made these decisions for profit, and we should be comparing the great things that each of our candidates have done and determining who can lead us. Not distorting the motivations of each other for what they have done. That is not to say that Perry shouldn't answer questions, just like Romney, Paul, and the crew, but when the candidates give their replies to why they did what they did it is not beneficial to attack at their motives.

456 Ohh, I just knew Rick Perry was a winner! Because, as I've been stating over-and-over, igniting a culture war in the middle of a generational economic realignment election is mother-fucking brilliant.

Way to take a winning demographic slice and reshuffle it until you lose.

We don't have solid polling on the recent immigration and Gardasil exchanges, but lets see where the voting public falls in the Romney-Perry Social Security debate:

-------------------
Americans strongly disagree with the statements Rick Perry made about
Social Security in last week's Republican Presidential debate, and
Barack Obama has nearly doubled his lead over Perry nationally in the
span of just 3 weeks.

Only 20% of voters agree with Perry that Social Security is a Ponzi
scheme to 70% who dissent from that statement. Democrats (4/87) and
independents (20/69) are pretty universal in their disagreement with
Perry and even Republicans (39/49) don't stand with him on this one.
When it comes to the possibility of actually ending Social Security
voters are even more unanimous- 82% oppose taking that step to only 10%
who would be supportive of it. If Perry ends up as the Republican
nominee and Democrats can effectively convince the electorate that he
does want to end Social Security it could be an extremely damaging issue
for him.

In fact it appears that Perry's rhetoric on Social Security could
already be causing him problems. When PPP did a national poll three
weeks ago Barack Obama led Perry by only 6 points at 49-43. Now that
gap has widened to 11 points at 52-41. The main movement has come with
Democratic voters. On the previous poll Obama had only a 68 point lead
with the party base at 81-13 but now it's 80 points at 89-9. We know
there are a lot of Democratic voters disenchanted with Obama right now
but if the GOP puts forward someone like Perry who's willing to go after
one of the Holy Grails of the party's orthodoxy like Social Security it
might scare those voters back into the fold....
Mitt Romney continues to look like the considerably more electable GOP
contender. He trails Obama by only 4 points at 49-45. You can see the
difference between Romney and Perry's general election viability at this
point particularly with independents. While Perry's favorability with
them is just 23/51 as mentioned above, Romney's is 44/39. And where
Perry trails Obama by 10 points with them, Romney actually holds a 2
point advantage. Romney also consolidates the GOP vote better than
Perry (87% as opposed to 82%) and wins over slightly more Democrats (11%
to Perry's 9%). If Republican voters really value having a candidate
who can beat Obama, as they claim to, Romney's their guy at this point.- PPP, released today.

Looks to me like Palin and Perry were doing the same thing, with their hearts in the same place- trying to make sure all girls had access to the vaccine regardless of income. Neither governor wanted to ask the state's conservative taxpayers to pay for it. So Palin used federal funds to pay for it, and Perry tried to mandate the vaccine for all so the insurance companies would pay for it.
In neither state would anyone be forced to receive the vaccine if their parents did not want them to.
So Palin had no reason to attack Perry on this, and supporters of one have no reason to attack the other.

467 If Palin wants to join the vaccine nutters, she can forget me EVER supporting her.

Perry should be criticized roundly for implementing a mandatory vaccine by executive order instead of through the legislature, and there is a greater argument about states' pursuing their own immunization regimes without a national consensus.

But the disinformation about HPV and Gardisil in particular, and especially about vaccinations in general, is just stupid and insane.

It's like opening up the door to the Truthers. It is a threat to public health. Vaccinations do NOT cause autism, retardation, etc. There is not a shred of credible evidence of it. What there was, was later proven incorrect and even falsified.

And Palin didn't mandate that Alaskan girls have the vaccine? Meaning, of course, that she's not in favor of state coercion.
And the money mentioned in the article was offered to Alaska by the Federal government, specifically for the purpose, and not solicited from it by the Palin administration? Meaning, of course, she wasn't (in that instance - the Bridge to Nowhere may have been different) begging for a Federal handout.
I fail to see the negative for Palin in this item. She's not an anti-vaxxer like Bachmann seems to be, and she's not a mandater like Perry (fleetingly) was.

486 I've seen a lot of "Perry was hurt" and "Romney won" around the internet today, but I think the story of last night is going to be Bachmann and Palin. I think they both turned off a significant segment of the GOP base that were willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. This vaccine nonsense is going to hurt them both more than the Dream Act crap is going to hurt Perry.

Wait until the next round of polling, I expect to see Perry stay about where he was, Mitt will move up a tick, and Bachmann is heading into Huntsman and Santorum territory.

And Palin? I now firmly believe that she is just a media whore looking to score a pile of bucks off her celebrity.

criticized roundly for implementing a mandatory vaccine by executive
order instead of through the legislature, and there is a greater
argument about states' pursuing their own immunization regimes without a
national consensus. But the disinformation about HPV and
Gardisil in particular, and especially about vaccinations in general, is
just stupid and insane. It's like opening up the door to the
Truthers. It is a threat to public health. Vaccinations do NOT cause

NumbersUSA wants to reduce legal immigration as well, so they mark Romney down for having stated that he doesn't want to reduce legal immigration.

Romney supports the fence. Perry opposes it.

544 I'm a SP fan...I don't believe she is perfect and I do think she'll struggle in the general, should she run.

So, I've been outspokenly anti-Mittsy and Perry has been my choice, but at this point there is more about him we need to learn. Immigration, for example, is a big question.

As for this "issue", I have 2 thoughts. As a father of a 3 YO girl, I prefer as much limit on the state's interaction with her sexuality as possible. And, as I understand the vaccine, it prevents HPV, which can lead to cervical cancer. It's a specific vaccine for a specific precursor to cancer. And, HPV, as I understand it, is only contracted through sexual contact. Given those facts, I would certainly oppose a mandated vaccine in this instance and I think Perry can be effectively called into question. And, he needs to answer for why he thinks the state is a better decision maker than the individual. That's what conservatives should do, if government is stepping in, they better make an airtight case for why individual freedoms should be limited.

Having said that, the anti-vax crowd, including Jenny McCarthy, can certainly be unhinged from reality. McCarthy, when faced with very strong scientific evidence that vaccines do not link to autism, gave an incredibly disingenuous answer. She tried to say she didn't explicitly implicate vaccines, but did say we need to explore the relationship to the fullest. She totally mis-characterized her earlier crusading. If Missy is jumping on that bandwagon, then she's really going to damage her own credibility.

As for Palin and the federal funds...as others have pointed out, there is a big difference in receiving the funding for the vaccines from the feds and mandating the vaccine. Ace, you may have points about Palin, and to a stronger degree Missy, but this isn't the strongest evidence to make your case on, IMO.

I just find the vaginaphobia displayed by all the aggressive former "GILF"ers, in re Palin, to be distasteful, dumb, and blatantly obvious.

Again, purely as a purity test, Perry's position is questionable and the primary is a legitimate place to have him answer those types of questions, IMO. You shouldn't have to opt out of freedom...you should opt into government interaction.

Overall, however, I'm very concerned with his immigration stance and hope that he either gives a much better explanation (without the latino pandering) or revises his position with a much stronger tie to states rights, which could then include individual enforcement proceedures ala Arizona.

Scott Walker and a few other repub. governors have shown where much of the future power of the people will rest.
I have a feeling that Rick Perry would let the states deal with immigration by upholding fedlaws that are already in place. Isn't one of his attractioons that he's a strong 10ther.

579 I love this post and I 100% in agreement with Ace.

But I also I guess I'm in the vast minority here. I don't think Perry did anything wrong, with gardasil, or with the trans-whatever highway. He's a governor. He saw a problem, he came up with a solution, he instituted the solution for what he thought would be the benefit of the citizens of the state.

It turns out the citizens disagreed, and guess what? he siad, Oops, my bad, didn't know you guys would have such strong feelings about this, let's back up and try something else. Guess what, leading is hard. You have to have ideas and take chances and you don't know which ones are going to be brilliant and which ones are going to suck.

Look, I don't care if Rick Perry has the perfect conservative, small government solution to every problem ready to go in his pocket. What I care about is that he a. LEADS with a conservative agenda, and b. IS RESPONSIVE to the conservative base and can walk back when he makes a mistake, and is not an arrogant shit-bag like Obama, or Romney, or Newt, who think they know better than everyone else and their policies would work if only we just trust them.

So, for me, gardasil is a win-win for Perry. Sign me up. Where can I give my $2,400. Screw Sarah Palin for hen-pecking a good governor from the sidelines and not throwing down to run. Michelle Bachman jumped the shark in her presidential run and for me Sarah Palin jumped the shark last night, too.

This means a wife from a cheating spouse, a young girl molested or raped.
You can be a virgin and marry the man of your dreams, but if he's had previous serual experience and has the virus in his system, he could infect you on your wedding night
Got that? One screw outside of marrigae and hubby can bring home death to his wife. And it doesn't "show" itself to the male carriers, as other venereal diseases can.

Newt is not a RINO. His ideology is solidly conservative. He's just made some huge mistakes in his desperate quest for the "sweet 75%" (of Americans who agree on a particular set of issues--google American Solutions).

His couch jumping with Nanhag and support for Scuzzyfava were tactical. Then he really got spanked with his "right wing social engineering" comments. I think he's realized that conservatives are truly pissed and are not going to put up with any bi-partisanship nonsense.

590 "I do see a distinction between mandating Gardasil and making it more available."
--------
Abso-fucking-lutely right that! There is a distinction as wide as the Grand Canyon for anyone with a mind open enough to see it. I'm abit surprised to see Ace react this way, making petty bullshit attacks on Sarah Palin, dishonestly trying to equate Perry's douchebaggery with Palin accepting federal money as if they're the same.
Reminds me of how liberals try to discredit Ayn Rand screaming "she drew Social Security so she's a phony hypocrite!", as if they had a valid or coherent point. As long asyou're forced to pay into SS or pay taxes to the federal govt., there's nothing wrong or inconsistent with libertarian or conservative philosophy to try and get back as much of your money as you put in..even while simultaneously trying to reduce the size and scope of government. No inconsistency there at all. None..
Perry is being called to account for his douchebag positions on illegalimmigration (Tom Tancredo is a "RACIST!" and the "AZ immigration law isn't something we'd ever want for TX"), his Big-Brotherattempts to force little girls to take vaccinations, and Romney made him lookpetty in their exchange over job records,so the only retort of course... is to change the subject by attacking Palin. It only makes sense!

Posted by: Mook at September 13, 2011 03:39 PM (ue7R1)

591 >>555 #550 The government shouldn't be involved in public health? Is that what you are saying?

I'm saying that's the question we should ask ourselves.

Perry jumped in and said "Hey! Everyone needs to get this ASAP!" Palin said nothing, at least as far as I know, but some bureaucrat said "Everyone should be subsidized to get this."

In both cases, a pharma company stood to benefit from a political decision. That's something we should seek to minimize.

While I've never believed the vaccine->autism link, it's not hard to convince me that politics have entered into the vaccination process. Bad things do happen with vaccinations, but rather than just discuss it and weigh the pros and cons, we have to pretend no bad vaccines have ever existed, ever hurt anyone, and that the "science is settled" on all matters regarding vaccines now and forever.

It seems to me that this is a byproduct of the fact that the government is involved. I'd much rather people got vaccines because they were well-educated to the risks.

Refute this article by Michelle Malkin... http://tinyurl.com/6kvcoxe

P.S. going to ban me for posting the truth on the ACE of SPADES RICK PERRY campaign site?

Posted by: PhilipJames at September 13, 2011 04:20 PM (G9AXq)

624 Ace,
I understand that Perry got beat up last night regarding the vaccine Mandate. But this is comparing apples and cinder blocks. It is weaksauce and sounds petty.

This amounts to Alaska accepting federal funds like the other 56 states do. Palin said no mandate. That is the issue. Perry admitted it apologized. That should end it.

Posted by: Neo at September 13, 2011 04:22 PM (MP/bH)

625 Sorry Ace, I normally agree with you. But on this one, Malkin's already illustrated in Spades why this isn't the same.

Alaska under Palin wasn't even on Merck's list of influence. So it's nowhere near the same. It also didn't help Perry that he understated how much Merck gave him.

And I'm not looking for a Palin campaign and am probably content to vote for Perry in the General if nothing worse comes out on him. But Gardasil does stink of Crony Capitalism, and the TexDream Act does 'not' play well.

Bryan Preston, author of the article at PJM has this interesting info in his bio....

"was producer of the Laura Ingraham Show and, most recently before joining PKM, was Communications Director of the Republican Party of Texas"

Yikes... now he wouldn't have any bias towards Rick Perry would he? And Ingraham, one of the "blondes" who tried to smear Sarah Palin recently as well?

Ace, calm down. I'm not a Palin fan, which would be obvious if you'd been paying attention to what I've written in the past.

I don't particularly care if you violate the so-called "11th commandment," I don't even care if her words are genuine or false in this context. I just can't figure out why someone would appeal to that even as they're doing exactly the same thing they accuse someone else of doing.

I'm just suggesting that might be somewhat inconsistent. And, honestly, I don't even know what comment here means. What did Sarah Palin instruct you in or to do?

I'm fine with finding fault with candidates as we weed through which one we'll support. I'm fine with pointing out problems with what they say and their record.

Just... doing so in the context of them violating this Reagan dictum seems contradictory is all.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at September 13, 2011 05:24 PM (r4wIV)

649 Don't care. This comes down to Perry or Romney. Who gives a shit which, as long as it isn't Obama?

I think this is what Reagan meant by his 11th commandment comment. The point is that whoever is put up there by the GOP, he's better than Obama. And the more we snipe at and hurt our candidates, the harder its going to be for them to win. Its fine to point out weaknesses and debate their strengths and past, their faults and mistakes. It just seems to me we should be doing so like fans of a single team talking about players on that team rather than blood enemies discussing people we hate with every fiber of our being.

659 Ace: To be crony capitalism there has to be a crony. Palin pointed out that with the Texas mandate, there was indeed a crony. Pretty big omission on your part. And in answer to your question: "how much did she get from Merck?" Michelle Malkin has the answer: zero. You might want to update.
Another viscious AND careless Ace-attack on another outstanding conservative woman warrior. I am afraid that my Ewok-hero might have panty problems.
It's really too bad that Palin tossed her broader political credibility by resigning her governorship. She would make by far the best Republican presidential candidate. Her and Bolton, in either order. Now THERE would be a ticket.
Perry's not bad though, despite a few glaring liabilities, like catering to illegal Mexicans, and inviting the Aga Khan into the public schools. (Hey, why not just invite the Pope to establish a public school curriculum on Catholicism? Oh, that's right: violation of church and state is reserved only for MUSLIMS.)
But we don't need a perfect president. We just need a decent president, and control of both houses of Congress, which looks to be coming. Unfortunately, there will be no stopping the complete economic collapse that is just around the corner.

Posted by: Alec Rawls at September 13, 2011 06:49 PM (kTTUz)

660 The point my dear Ace, that you just will not ever concede is yes Governor Palin, not some bimbo you dated last week named Devine, did say vet em all let the TEA Party sort em out.

Yes, Governor Good Hair said all y'all get your little girls poked because "I" think it's a good idea AND he doubled down and MANDATED ITS USE BY EXECUTIVER ORDER. btw: Ace, he also said "I'll stick with Sarah" Let's be sure we use ALL the quotes lest some poor misguided RINO think we're picking sides or playing favorites.

You can take that implemented LIE and shove it. I personally stared down TWO pediatricians in their offices. (Neither is our current kid doc and golly gee whiz this one agrees with the parents) It was implemented and yes it was retracted. Is it a wart? yup. Does the Palin Governorship have warts? you betcha.

For all of Governor Palin's faults, which the lame stream media will only be too happy to enumerate, she remains THE ONLY CONSERVATIVE WITH THE GUTS TO WIN THE WHITE HOUSE.
