For Congress: Jesse Kelly AZ-8

The Race-
2 term incumbent Democrat Gabrielle Giffords vs. conservative and Iraq war vet Jesse Kelly in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District.

It’s a moderately Republican district (used to be represented by Jim Kolbe) that went for Bush and McCain in the last two Presidential elections but has been represented by a Democrat for the last 4 years.

The Candidate (from his website)-

Jesse and his wife, Aubrey, live in Marana, a town just northwest of Tucson, Arizona. They are raising two sons, James and Luke. The family attends Alive Christian Church in Marana.

Jesse is a project manager of Don Kelly Construction, his family’s contracting business, where he oversees multi-million dollar infrastructure projects. As a project manager, Jesse has balanced budgets, made payroll and hired hundreds of people.

From 2000-2004, Jesse served in the United States Marine Corps. In 2003, he was deployed to Iraq, where he led a squad of infantry Marines in combat. Jesse was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He was awarded a good conduct medal, and his unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.

Jesse made the decision to run for Congress the day President Obama signed the wasteful, $787 billion stimulus package. He will fight for solutions that work in order to create jobs and get the economy moving again. Jesse’s military leadership and business experience are exactly what we need in a Representative to Congress.

Why Kelly Can Win-

Kelly is riding the wave this year. He’s an outsider, small government conservative running in a district that is traditionally Republican but went for the Democrats in their big years of ’06 and ’08. If it’s ever coming back to the GOP, this is the year and this is the guy.

On the issues, Giffords supports amnesty and opposes the Arizona immigration law. She voted for the so-called “stimulus”, health care reform and cap and tax.

Kelly? Not so much on those issues.

He also has a very good take on why talk of bi-partisanship is so dangerous.

"People want their representatives to work together in a bipartisan way to get things done," said Giffords, who touts her 2009 rating by the nonpartisan National Journal as the most centrist member of Arizona's congressional delegation. "My opponent has said some remarkably tough statements such as, 'Hopefully, there will be no Democrats left in Congress' after the election and that he wants to 'crush liberals.' That's not my approach. To be a community leader, you need to bring people together."
Kelly, an Iraq war veteran who grew up in Montana and has never held elective office, scoffs at the idea of bipartisanship.
"Bipartisanship in Washington means Republicans selling out their conservative principles in order to appear nice on MSNBC," he told a town-hall meeting at the Oro Valley Country Club.
Kelly blasts Giffords for voting for health-care reform. He also criticizes her votes on an energy bill that sought to reduce global warming but which critics said would increase energy costs. And he said the $787 billion stimulus bill that Giffords supported has not created jobs.
"Gabrielle Giffords has provided four years of failure - on the border, on unemployment, on the deficit," Kelly said.

Kelly is endorsed by Combat Veterans for Congress.

Real Clear Politics says the race is a toss up.

5 Kelly beats Giffords in AZ-8, Ruth McClung over Grijalva in AZ-7, Schweikert over Harry Mitchell in AZ-5 (my district), and Gosar over Kirkpatrick in AZ-1 would make me a very happy Zonie. 4 pickups in the House right there. Interestingly, Ben Quayle (Dan's son), was thought to be a shoe-in in AZ-3 to hold the consistantly Republican Paradise Valley area district...the first pol I've seen (by Daily Kos/PPP, for what that's worth), has Quayle down by 2 points. But Giffords is endorsed by the VFW, a venerable and much more older and respected organization. Plus Kelly is probably suffering from PTSD being a combat vet and all. I think that makes him highly unstable, even dangerous, and that is why I am pulling the lever for Giffords.

You wouldn't know it from her horrible campaign ads, which are only slightly less ridiculous than John McCain's in their attempt to portray her as the opposite of what she is.

I'm not in her district (I get to vote for the rocket scientist Ruth) but I really want to see her go home this year.

34 Arizona is a state that could really use some help with "The Wave". We're traditionally conservative (Goldwater!) but largely due to immigration (legal and illegal), population growth from California, Washington, Oregon, the Midwest and NE, and pandering to special interest groups (largely Latino...see Grijalva, and Native American...see Kirkpatrick), the state of Arizona hangs in a tentative balance. We're on the forefront of some big issues, mainly immigration reform and border security, as well asjobs/foreclosures/economy. We have our RINO's (McCain), moderates (Jan Brewer...immigration tea party hero, but recently raised taxes significantly), and solid conservatives (Jon Kyle, Jeff Flake).
The action this election is in the House, where all 5 seats are nearly within the margin of error. If you're in a district that is safe, and looking to help where it's needed most, please consider the Arizona races.

57 I live in this district. Gabby Giffords is only staying competitive here because she started with a lot more money and organization than Jesse Kelly -- and she's been using her money advantage to run a bunch of very misleading ads that grossly and unfairlydistort Kelly's conservative views.
For example, Giffords is running ads that say Kelly, who supports a flat tax, wants to increase working-class Arizonans tax billsby 23%!!! Kelly wants to bankrupt AZ families!!!
Giffords is also running ads that claim Kelly, who wants to dismantle the useless federal Dept. of Education and get the fed gov't out of the state's business of educating its citizens, will "gut" funding for AZ schools and make it impossible for AZ collegestudents to get school loans!!!
Giffords is a loyal Pelosi footsoldier in the Dims' war against American prosperity. She voted for all the big-spending, big-government crap that Pelosi put up. Giffords, who falsely claims she is"tough on border security" also voted against funding the border fence, opposes SB 1070, and called Tucson Tea Partiers "racists" for wanting a more secure border.
Giffords is a menace to Arizona, and to the nation. If you have a few bucks to spare, please donate to Jesse Kelly's campaign.He needs the money for more ads to counter Giffords' false and misleading attacks on him. Please help!

63 What does being a congressman have to do with being a father? Did none of our founding fathers have kids? His oldest looks 4 or so, but he was a Marine, and Marines have kids. Both being a congressman and a Marine require sacrifice (or any other real public service, or it should). The problem we have today is that being a congressman has way to many benefits and to few down-sides. It is not a sacrifice, but an avenue to money and power.

He took the time to talk and answer questions in a thoughtful way--we actually had a conversation about issues for 15 minutes. Sincere, conservative, genuine is how he came off to me.
