What do you call a multiterm Democratic incumbent

polling at 48% in a district they win by over 70%?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Jan Schakowsky

New poll by Magellan Strageties of 945 likely voters in IL-9 (D+20 district) shows her with an 18-point lead over Joel Pollak (30%).

Impressive numbers for Jan, until you look at the undecideds (a full 22%),
her previous election history (winning 75%, 75%, 76%, 70%, 76% and 75% respectively), and this one damning poll statistic:
"Only 44% of voters say that Schakowsky deserves to be re-elected, while 42% say that it is time to give a new person a chance. Among those who feel most strongly, only 37% say that Schakowsky deserves to be re-elected, while 38% say it is time to give a new person a chance."

Remember, this is a race that was supposed to be a cakewalk in one of the most Democratic seats in the nation. Jan has spend money and manpower attacking Joel and even sent campaign members to sit in on his fundraiser with Paul Ryan. These aren't things someone who wins 3/4ths of the total local electorate do "in a walk."

PS-
Joel Pollak for Congress

46 Some happy news, but the fact that Schakowsky has been continually re-elected -- let alone elected in the first place -- tells you everything you need to know about the utter fuckeduppedness of her district, and Chicago in general. For crissakes, this sack of shit is about 6 notches to the left of Pol Pot, has an Osama bin Laden-level hate for the US military, and is married to a guy (Robert Creamer) who is currently a houseguest of the Federal Prison systems courtesy of multiple bank fraud convictions. There is no one in the US congress who is a more extreme leftist. Not Bernie Sanders, not Maxine Waters, not Rosa de Lauro, no one.

In a sane district, Joel Pollak would win this race by 99.8%, and Schakowsky would be deported to Cuba.

57 From "Key Wiki" article about her:
Jan Schakowsky has been close to Chicago Democratic Socialists of America-or its predecessors since the 1970s.Schakowsky was recruited to help with the famous Chicago Grape Boycott by a young United Farm Workers union leader named Eliseo Medina.A lifelong socialist, Medina is today executive vice president of the Service Employees International Union and an honorary chair of Democratic Socialists of America.Medina and Schakowsky crossed paths at Chicago DSA's 2004 Debs-Thomas-Harrington Dinner.Eliseo Medina was honored for his union work at the dinner while Jan Schakowsky was keynote speaker.

How this scrunt ever got elected is amazing. 50 years ago such a person would have been run out of town, not elected to office.

So why is she a Democrat? Because the Democrat Pary is made up of socialists and communists. It sounds like she is a hardcore communist.

Which just goes to show that Jewish voters in America aren't all that concerned about Jews elsewhere or Israel for that matter. Schakowsky is Jewish, and her district (IL-9) includes many Jewish voters AND the brand new Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie.
Challenger Joel Pollak (R) is the Harvard Law student who challenged Barney Frank at an appearance a year or so ago in Boston. He's now graduated from law school and come home to run for congress. He's the first real challenger in IL-9 in decades. This district includes a swath of the near north side of Chicago's lakefront (very lib), Evanston (very lib), and parts of other north and north shore suburbs.

84 Re Schakowsky's district: it's sort of a strange mixed bag. It contains extremely high income suburbs (Wilmette and Kenilworth, possibly America's wealthiest town), the college enclave of Evanston, the very blue collar Des Plaines, some urban squalor. There is a high % Jewish population, but the Rogers Park area of Chicago has a lot of south Asian Hindus and Muslims. People tend to think of Skokie as Jewish, but it is actually very transitional; most of the Jewish population there has been supplanted by immigrants.

This seems like a good time to pull out this column from Dick Morris. I know he's not the most popular guy around here, but he's got something good to say, he’s got far more experienced at reading these trends than I believe most of us (he's made a profession out of commissioning, intepreting, and using polls), and I give his expertise some weight. And he's saying something I like to hear, like the sorta cute girl offering to blow you at the dance.

The huge Republican poll numbers these days do not reflect the last minute switches typical of less involved voters but rather mirror the disappointment with Obama and with Congress among voters who do follow politics closely that has accumulated over the past year and a half. It is this reappraisal of their political opinions that is occasioning the big swing toward Republicans in the 2010 election.
The ranks of these disaffected voters who are now turning against Obama and the Democrats will soon be joined by the less involved voters who will come around in the week or ten days before the election. . . .
2010 is a year like no other in the magnitude of the partisan shift going on. It dwarfs 1994 and even 1974 in its order of magnitude. But we haven’t yet seen the full impact of the last minute party shift that will take place. Plenty of voters who are now undecided are yet to be heard from and, when they are, they will impact the results decisively.
In which direction? Most likely they will transform a massive Republican win into an even more massive victory. The uninvolved voters who will decide late in the process are likely to break the same way the rest of the country is breaking – toward the Republicans. Surveys suggest that they share the disenchantment of the participating voters with the economy and Obama’s performance. They have just not focused on the coming election.

105 That's my hometown stomping grounds, lived there for 50 years. Iowahawk has it nailed. ETHS was a monster HS back in the day, but JS will not lose, unfortunately. She is as rabid a leftist as exists in either House. But the ILL 9th is a tough road to hoe.

It's the adjoining 10th (btw, Wilmette is in the 10th as well, for those who have it listed in the 9th ...it's split), the race is very strange.

John Porter owned that District ever since Abner Mikva...then Mark Kirk took over. It's a Fortune 500 haven, it's mostly affluent bedroom communities and should be filled with independents ripe for picking. Dold isn't running horribly, but he should be killing Seals...not baby seals...but the clubbing should be as brutal...and isn't.

THAT'S the race that ought to get Allah and Ace to create the WAVE on....it's winnable and needs help.

It is a great craft, but not such an artistic storytelling job. But anyhow, when you accept the symphony job, you have to provide the (good solid) sound thats needed in the context of the big hall, no artistic excuses possible. The jazz artists focusses on storytelling and let the amps do the sound production job. ,Or am I missing your point Sonic Soldier is really a nice way to describe it.
