Ace: OMG, A New Poll Has Sexy Heart Doctor Rob Steele Ahead of John Dingell
Dr. Rob Steele: Oh, No
Ace: Oh, YESSS

Dr-Rob-Steele-I-too-have-marveled-at-a-beating-human-heart-held-in-my-sexy-hand.jpg

I didn't think this one was going to happen. This was in my Let's-Make-A-Show-of-Believing-But-I-Don't-Believe category.

Believe.

A new independent poll has the dean of the U.S. House, Rep. John Dingell trailing his Republican opponent, Rob Steele, by 4 percentage points.

The automated phone survey of 300 people in the 15th Congressional District showed Steele getting 43.8% of the vote. Dingell, a Dearborn Democrat and the longest-serving member of Congress, got 39.5%. About 11% were undecided. The gap is within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 5.6 percentage points. The poll was conducted Monday.

Click the link to see previous vote shares in the district -- the average over three cycles has been 95% Democrat, 5% Republican. Yes, 95-5.

Check him out and volunteer or donate.

Besides being a cardiologist (also married to a doctor, a psychiatrist)...

A long-time auto enthusiast, Dr Steele enjoys all things automotive, including autocross, racing, mechanical work and restoration. He is a lifetime member of both the National Motorist Association and NRA, and current member of the Washtenaw Sportsman Club. His grandfather and father started a tradition of service through decades of contributions in coaching, teaching and public school boards. He has had an interest in American history and has been a member of the Heritage Foundation for more than 20 years, and was a founding member of the SE Michigan Committee for Heritage.

A few quibbles about the poll: It's a small sample, has a high MoE, and seems pretty dramatic.

We'll have to see. But Dr. Steele is as compelling a candidate as you can want, and he's got an action-movie name so like, Dingell's done.

Lotta stuff at the link, like Dingell's greatest hits (calling a local radio show guy a "terrorist" for opposing ObamaCare).

From The Hostages (H2), where it's Big Boob Friday but they haven't posted the Big Boobs yet. But they will. They're good like that.

Thanks to Laura "Filthy Harlot" W.

Exactly: nine coconuts writes:

The difference in a lot of these out-of-nowhere contests is the ground game.

People calling likely voters and knocking on doors getting the normally docile right leaning voters excited enough to take a stand.

That's right. That's exactly right. Dingell's got the machine working for him; there is no machine at all for Dr. Rob Steele.

So you can either sit on your asses and just read about the wave, which won't come, because you're not making it come, or you can be the wave.

And, again, contact your local GOP offices to find out how you can help. Check out "someone's" post about GOTV -- he actually did it, and wants you to know it's pretty easy, people are friendly about it (bear in mind, they will be targeting you to address likely Republican leaners), and there's a 99% chance you'll meet someone wonderful there and get ridiculously laid.

Okay, he didn't say the last part, but you have to read between the lines here, people.

It really frustrates me that so many conservatives talk a good game about taking our nation back and restoring liberty and securing a better America for our children but do not walk the walk.

34 It is still a likely Dem seat because of its history, but it is encouraging to see Dingle fighting for his seat. If long-term incumbents are seriously telling their core constituents to pony up the $ and are unleashing attack websites against "token" opposition one has to think how token that opposition actually is.

40 The Anti-Waxman!

Dingell's always been the guy who kept the UAW and the automakers relatively happy and beat back the EPA when they started nipping too hard at the automakers' heels.

His utility to his district got clipped very severely when the Nancy Congress did its Great Leap Leftward and pitched Dingell in favor of coastal gentry enviroloon Waxman, pretty much repudiated Dingell's entire career.

Not too surprising that the voters of his district might doubt that he's of much use if he can't even protect his own seat from Nostrildamus.

72 Vic - I don't know anything, really, about Dingell's district but there may be a number of factors at work.

Dingell's the kind of old-line influence-peddler that's a bit of an endangered species this year, particularly when you move outside the coastal idiot enclaves.

He suffered a perhaps-fatal loss of influence and 'face' when Nancy's caucus took away the Energy and Commerce chair from which he'd long played Fairy Godfather to automaker interests.

Worse still, they gave it to the coastal gentry-liberal enviroloon Nostrildamus, the absolute worst possible choice from Dingell's district's standpoint.

The Pelosi-Waxman Democrats are the worst enemy Dingell's district has faced since Louis XIV's soldiers left and Dingell can't even protect his district from his own caucus.

Vic - I don't know anything, really, about Dingell's district but there may be a number of factors at work. Dingell's
the kind of old-line influence-peddler that's a bit of an endangered
species this year, particularly when you move outside the coastal idiot
enclaves. He suffered a perhaps-fatal loss of influence and
'face' when Nancy's caucus took away the Energy and Commerce chair from
which he'd long played Fairy Godfather to automaker interests. Worse
still, they gave it to the coastal gentry-liberal enviroloon
Nostrildamus, the absolute worst possible choice from Dingell's
district's standpoint.

The Pelosi-Waxman Democrats are the worst
enemy Dingell's district has faced since Louis XIV's soldiers left and
Dingell can't even protect his district from his own caucus.

The district is pretty solidly Democrat, but Dingell just isn't very popular anymore. Monroe County leans slightly Democrat, but Dr. Steele has been pretty popular there. The Dearborn area is Dingell's hometurf, but some of the suburbs are a bit more conservative. Ann Arbor-Ypsi is very liberal, but they've never warmed to Dingell since he knocked out Ann Arbor's congresswoman in the primary in the last round of redistricting. Dingell's a typical midwest ultra-liberal who shills for the unions and manufacturing. Ann Arbor prefers California-style enviro-loons, so hopefully the Ann Arbor dems will stay home.

94 >>>But this particular gag (no pun intended) has slipped me by ... could somebody plz help a moron out and 'splain the deal?

As reason explains, yeah, the joke started when I pretended I was so in political love with Marco Rubio I was in actual love with him, then began stalking him in a creepy way. I extend the same honor to anyone I think can win, and is hot, and is male (can't do this with women, not funny so much as threatening).

I did do Sean Bielat too. I offered to make him a robot with my wiener.

I have backed off Lt. Col. West because he's scary.

95 When people started saying this year could be like 1994, I started wondering 'Who's going to be the Rostenkowski?' The firmly-entrenched, never-going-to-leave-his-seat-until-he-dies incumbent that gets caught in the tidal wave and walks around the day after with a stunned and confused look his face. I had hoped we might see a few like that, but Dingell? Dingell losing would be on the level of the Berlin Wall going down.

Posted by: kev at October 08, 2010 12:45 PM (Qkl1c)

96 On the downside, if Steele wins, he wins what? Dearborn. Why it's like a game show victory: Congratulations, Mr. Steele. For your brilliance and hard work, you get... Dearborn. In Michigan. And what do we have here for your opponent, the loser? Dearborn... for two terms.

But, yes, Dingall out would be Cool-Whip on the pudding dip. I'm just sorry for the poor sod who has to try and save the region because it'll be, um, challenging.

nice Jerry..

this might be good for a few points? I would reconsider my vote intentions if I were a moderate. Do you this CA will finally be in play?

100 ford: "Do you this CA will finally be in play?"

I'm afraid CA is terminally stupid. Yeah, broad brush here, but the fact that Boxer and Brown have a shot at reelection is stunning. And after I saw some CA focus groups get questioned on Hannity, my optimism for a GOP surge - nevermind a conservative one - dropped.

I think CA is a failed state that's too far gone to heal itself. It's probably time to call it Really-West Greece.

Check out "someone's" post about GOTV -- he actually did it, and wants
you to know it's pretty easy, people are friendly about it (bear in
mind, they will be targeting you to address likely Republican leaners), and there's a 99% chance you'll meet someone wonderful there and get ridiculously laid.

108 It really frustrates me that so many conservatives talk a good game
about taking our nation back and restoring liberty and securing a better
America for our children but do not walk the walk.

This kind of thing used to really frustrate me, too. I think it's a valid argument, especially for those without a family of their own. However, in the last few years, I've come to just be chill about it and be happy for their votes, mostly because those on our side have a higher propensity to have families and, along with that, lives outside of politics.

Yes, this is important. Yes, it is easy. Yes, it is critical.

Would have made a difference in 2008? I don't think so. Our problem was not GOTV efforts. Our problem was our candidate.

109 Just for the record, this Congressional district does not vote 95-5 Democrat. The city of Detroit does. And the city of Detroit is near - but not in - that Congressional district.

So, there is some misinformation out there.

Still, this is a pretty solidly Democrat district, and Dingell is obviously well-known there (as an incumbent for the last...55 years or so). So this is still big news, and very good news.

But let's not start eating each others' pussies just yet.

Are you kidding?

Obama would have won, of course. But a few hundred more votes could have kept Coleman outside Franken's margin of theft. No Franken = no Obamacare.

There are always a handful of House races that go down to the wire, too. GOTV *always* matters. Remember that depressed panhandle turnout due to the early bullshit call nearly gave us President Gore.
