RNC Announces Major GOTV Push -- Make 40 Calls to Voters From Comfort of Own Home

Endorsed by Quenchy (TM)

...and recruit 40 friends to do likewise. I think this last bit is kind of hard for anyone who doesn't have a blog (or, at least, a swingers' newsletter, as I used to), but even three or four people recruited to do this aids the cause greatly.

Hell, the calls alone aid the cause greatly. (But try to get the friends, too.)

I already told them, I'm signing up myself, and will be placing my 40 calls. Maybe think about doing so yourself.

As you probably have read a bunch of times, we lost that race for Murtha's old seat not due to actual numbers of voters who would vote for our guy but because we simply did not have the turnout machinery in place that the Democrats did. The district preferred the Republican... but a Democrat is now in Congress because their people went to the polls in greater numbers than ours.

In numerous places -- like in Sean Bielat's district -- we have a fighting shot to take these races. But, there, for example, Barney Frank has run unopposed for over 20 years. We just don't have the canvassers, ward-heelers, door-knockers in place there.

Many of the seats we could win, we won't win, for lack of aggressive GOTV.

That's what this is all about -- drawing on the national conservative movement to make calls to places where we just don't have the people in place.

Anyway, I think it's a great idea. I'll be doing it, and I hope you'll consider doing it too.

4 Honestly, how much difference do calls make?

I've done it myself in the past and don't know that I motivated anyone to vote for my candidate who wasn't going to anyway, and I've been demotivated to vote for someone when their staff called me incessantly.

For crying out loud -- it's like a fucking hour of your life every two years! It's completely asinine that there even needs to be a "get out the vote" effort. I agree. There isn't a damn thing that will stop me from voting Nov. 2. I'm even thinking about being an election judge. I'm supposed to find out about it tonight. Another way to help (and this maybe can tie with what ace said) but make sure the elderly and disabled have a way to get to the polls! 66 Keep in mind that a good GOTV effort might be able to motivate 1-2% of people who might not have turned out otherwise. And 1-2% in a close race is enough to turn the tide. I know we have people here who think calls are annoying (they are) and cant fathom why a person wouldnt turn out to vote on Nov 2nd, but these calls are targeted very thoroughly and are usually made to people who vote haphazardly (once every 4 years, or not in primaries, etc). So, are they perfect? No, but voter contact and motivation is how we won in 2000, 2002, and 2004. 2006 we had no enthusiasm, and in 2008 we ran into Obama. So, please, help anyway you can. And no, commenting on blogs doesnt help.

They're currently fixated on the upcoming expected rapid decline in defense spending in their area, of which they believe that if left to its own resources would collapse like a tent. Which it probably will. There's no way you're going to get these Johnstown-centric folks interested in voting for an R, much less a conservative, unless they promise to open the cash register which kinda blows the whole point.

92 Has anyone done any after-action checks to see if calling people at their homes actually increases the likely-hood of them voting the way you suggest to them? The last election, after having my fourth dinner in five nights interrupted by someone asking me to vote Republican, I lost my temper and spent several minutes yelling at the caller before slamming the phone down.

96 I followed the link, and the GOP website asked me to log in using one of many possible logins ( facebook, google, aol, etc.)

I logged in using my AOL name and PW, and it came up with someone's profile that was not mine. Phone, email, name, address.

Now I am not willing to give them my info, as they obviously have security issues?

WTF?

Posted by: PHenry at September 30, 2010 07:24 PM (oOXkS)

97 Ideally, the GOP has their databases completely coordinated with the individual campaigns so that they now precisely who has been called, who hasn't, how often and how the response has been. Though, is that legal? To coordinate databases?

I have a question only for those who have made such calls in the past.

I've thought about doing this before but always decided not too as I don't think I would be persuasive over the phone. I work better in print than by voice. But maybe I have the wrong impression. What exactly are you doing? Reading from a script? Just saying "don't forget to vote Nov 2nd". Or are you trying to change hearts and minds?

The "don't forget to vote Nov 2nd" kind of phone call I feel confident I wouldn't screw up and, although annoying, is probably a basic part of winning politics. Trying to explain to somebody why they should vote for Candidate Joe(R) instead of Incumbent John(D) is where I would screw up.

So which is it? Rote stuff or persuasion?

109 Great post Ace!

I knew you would do this! For those of you that don't think it makes any difference, just remember, if you get one or two people to go out and vote, you've doubled or tripled the effect of your own vote. Legally too, no corpses involved. \

I don't know how well it works, but I always tell people to go vote if they want things to get better. If they like how things are going now, stay home.

If you call someone that rants and raves and gets all pissed off that you called, just keep in mind, that wasn't the little red haired girl, and you didn't just get turned down for a date, Charlie Brown. You're doing your best, move on to the next one.

If anyone asks if you think the next crowd will do any better, remind them that if they don't, we'll fire their lazy bums too. But then, move on! This isn't your life, you ain't trying to convert the masses, you are trying to get our side out to vote.

111 Minutes after reading this and clicking through to the link, I received a fundraising call from the RNC that was so incredibly insulting, I'm almost considering not voting Republican anymore. The caller berated me for not donating (I explained that I donate to my local candidates like Christine O'Donnell and don't like Michael Steel's leadership) and kept shouting "I guess you're okay with Democrats!", then mocked me with "oh yeah, I'm sure you really donate locally, sure" and when I asked for her name she said "There's no way I'm giving you my name" and then gave me a sarcastic "God Bless" before hanging up on me. If this is how the RNC treats it's flock, they can take their GOTV effort and stuff it. There's no way I'd participate.

And the RNC is going to hear from me on this.

Just like the RSCC did when I got a similar snotty, obnoxious call from them a few months ago in which I was told that only they can find true conservatives to run for Senate seats. Like Mike Castle.

Posted by: MB at September 30, 2010 10:08 PM (RwpbN)

112 I've got a new handle. This is really cool. It's like I have my own blog, and it's only frequented by those that know how things ought to be. Basically, me!

As I was saying before, you aren't trying to change people's minds with GOTV calls, you're just trying to motivate the people on our side. If you get confrontational, you'll turn your callees off or get them to vote the wrong way.

It's best to just try to appeal to their personal want for 'change', just like the miniature messiah did. People Deadbeats are never satisfied. They weren't two years ago, and they ain't now.

The difference now is, you can use the same line on the slackers as you use on the producers, because nobody is better off than they were two years ago.

Even if they listen close enough to question the 'failed policies of the last ten years', it's easy enough to tell them that the ones in power now have had control of the purse strings for the last four years, and that before the last election, 5% unemployment was seen as a bad thing, and now 9-10% should just be,'the new reality'. You don't have to tell anyone how stupid this is, they will see it. Just shake your head and say,'Was this the change they promised?' and chuckle. Let them be on your side.

You aren't Rush Limbaugh, and most of the people you talk to wouldn't get you if you were. But you can still bring up your own truth to the fact that no poor person ever gave you a job. And that, like it or not, people will create more jobs and opportunities if they can profit from it themselves. If you take away someones' income if they expand and grow and try to become more profitable, they will just as soon lay back and let someone else get fucked over. (Or as Tom Harken says,'pay their fair share.')

Not everyone has it in him to become an employer. Most people are satisfied with finding somewhere that they can work and make a living and bitch about how bad they have it. And how much better they could do if they were in charge.

But, if you leave it to the masses to decide what the innovative or bold or whomever you work for can make, look for that new norm of unemployment to keep climbing. Human nature doesn't lend itself to favor the masses. The only societal equalization is poverty.

All hail the new socialism.

114 Not making it to Great Western this year. I'm going balls-out with Wasteland Weekend this year and that will be my fun for a while.

I'm getting into the Mad Max goofiness for a while. The armor scene is starting to bug a bit. Mostly because there are so many smelly hippies involved.

I'm tired of being around atheists, commies, and moonbat crystal-rubbing skanks who make fun of me for going to church and having a family.

Would love to hang out at GWW, but the family unit requires me to be much more selective in what events I can make.

There is always room at the BBQ for ya!

116 Can any living person honestly write that, in their neck of the woods, elections are held every two years?

Um, I was referring to federal elections -- you know, the really, really important ones; the only ones that are ever discussed on a political blog like this one. Not the ones about whether or not your local library is going to get a new TRS-80. Because no one gives a shit about those, and whether or not people show up to vote in them is pretty much irrelevant outside of their own "neck of the woods".

Not terribly complicated.

120 MKV to iPad
is the best solution to sharing MKV files on iPad. As we know, the
newly developed iPad can only surport MP4 format, so if you want to play
MKV video on iPad, you have to convert MKV to iPad with an additional
software. My personal recommendation is to use this MKV to iPad
Converter. The biggest difference between this all-in-one MKV to iPad
and other similar ones is that it can not onvert HD and general video
format to iPad, but can also convert DVD and Blu Ray directly to iPad
without assistant of other additional softwares, that's to say, it can
also be used as a DVD Ripper and BD Ripper.

The program is able to convert animated images to short videos from what you will get a lot of fun.

If you are a mac user, here also offer you MKV to iPad Converter for Mac.
