Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Chuck Schumer Calls for Congressional Hearings on "un-American" Supreme Court DecisionYou know, I haven't felt this good politically in a long time. Might have to make another pudding run. "I think it's an un-American decision," Schumer said at a press conference Thursday. "I think when the American people understand what this radical decision has meant they will be even more furious and concerned about special interest influence in politics than they are today." ... "As chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, which is the committee with jurisdiction over these issues, I'm announcing that we will hold hearings on the impact of this decision within the next of couple of weeks," Schumer said.Funny thing, the old "demonize corporations" game Schumer and his pals love to play, I wonder how well it works when a growing number of Americans who used to work for corporations start missing them a little bit? I'm sure Pelosi would disagree with the idea of holding any hearings. Afterall, following the Kelo decision she said the supreme court was "almost like the voice of god." So she's gotta agree with this ruling, right?

Barry is having a lovely hissy fit over this
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is condemning a decision by the Supreme Court to roll back restrictions on campaign donations by corporations and unions. In a written statement, Obama says the campaign finance ruling will lead to a "stampede of special interest money in our politics." Obama declared that his administration will work with Democratic and Republican leaders in Congress to come up with a "forceful response" to the high court's action. The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that corporations may spend as freely as they like to support or oppose candidates for president and Congress. Obama called it a big victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and other powerful interests. Can someone explain in clear terms (IE, how to explain it to flipants screaming 'this is the end of america!' in regards to the decision) how this is a positive change? I mean its not like corporations weren't already funneling money under the table through PACs and what not, or will not continue to do so.

I am beginning to come around to the view that the election of Barry to the office of President is ultimately a good thing. Maybe we can turn the electorate away from these communists for a good long time. It would be foolish to hope it is forever, and foolish to think most voters will understand fully (those who elected Obama in the first place aren't bright enough to really get it). But maybe there will be enough who do that there really could be an opportunity to reduce the size and influence of government.

When Republicans take over. Hearings on Bill Ayers. Hearings on Birth certificates and passports. Hearings about trips to PAWK-EEEE-STAHN. Hearings about bribes to AARP and Pharmaceutical companies. Fannie and Freddie hearings. Maybe we could have hearings into Chris Dodd and the friends of Angelo. Hearings into ERIC HOLDER and the pardons he sold. Oh yes Hearings.. I'm not completely sold on this ruling, basically because I haven't spent anytime educating myself about these sets of issues. However, Chuck Shumer is one of the great practitioners of un-American decisions, so his statement must carry some weight. Posted by: Mr. Peabody at January 21, 2010 04:10 PM (e1eKc) 100

TERM LIMITS, that's how. Posted by: tinkerbella at January 21, 2010 04:11 PM (DLG8j) 103

The Liberals, including McCain, are scared that the businesses they are trying to Nationalize will now suddenly have a 'voice'.
They are afraid that while they are beating the victim, that now the victim will be able to cry for help. The Liberals have loved silencing 'business', while unleasing their Labor Unions and Community Organizations to attack. It is the loss of free speech that is 'un-American'. It's actually good strategy, if you believe the assumptions upon which the Dems have based their new strategy.
Having finally realized health care reform is a loser, they have pivoted to their new number one priority: class warfare fought by demonizing corporate America. Schumer doesn't want hearings to specifically address the SC's ruling. He wants a show-trial platform to bash corporations and their enablers, conservatives on the SC. We saw step one today in Obama's announcement that he's going after the fat cat bankers. A hearing revealing the amount and extent to which corporations pour into politics will fit nicely with this new theme of the eeeeeviiiiiil corporations. And given the relative low esteem in which corporations are seen (especially in light of the bail-outs), this might be the only half-way effective strategy they have to co-opt the electorate's current anger. Posted by: angler at January 21, 2010 04:30 PM (SwjAj) 107
Schumer. . .posturing as always.
Here's an idea, schmuck, you are a LEGISLATOR. If you don't like the idea of corporations being able to contribute money to political parties, then come up with a constitutional amendment, or other LEGISLATIVE solution to the problem. Unfortunately Schumer isn't a carpetbagger. He's a native son. And he doesn't care about NY losing jobs, because his constituency is the public sector unions.
Someone needs to run against him this year and whoever that is needs to call for a money bomb. 2010 could be the year NY sends 2 conservatives to Washington, but only if they actually run someone. Posted by: Iblis at January 21, 2010 05:16 PM (9221z) 112

Libtards have been running things at all levels longer than the Soviets ran Russia, with similar results. The problem is no one even knows there is a contest. People don't know Schumer is up for re-election THIS YEAR! The pundits are calling this seat so safe, the election is just a formality. Schumer is the Dems brains. If I'm reading his facebook postings correctly, I think Doug Hoffman is going to have another go at NY-23. For weeks and weeks I've been asking who's running against Schumer. I even emailed the NY-GOP party because I think he's up for re-election this year. Everyone is throwing the hat in the ring against Gillebrand, who is also useless, however she only does what Schumer tells her to. No one has announced yet for Schumer's seat. I wish to God someone would. I bet Guiliani would win it ina heartbeat. Posted by: Martha at January 22, 2010 12:29 AM (kFsTd) 129
So these activist judges took 100 years of precedent and overturned it, because they considermulti-billion dollar corporations to be 'people' rather than a group. But judicial activism on the right is okay.
