Deranged Democrats Begin to Fret the Mental Health Gap

Democrat poll analyst Nate Silver notices that Democrats are winning with those with diagnosed mental illness.

And, on the other hand, are being trounced among the much larger group of people in good mental health.

Nate Silver's latest blog post notes that conservatives are up 31 points among those with self-described excellent mental health, and down 26 among those with poor mental health.
Democrats have turned themselves into the party of the neurotic, the unstable, and the miserable.
If you're happy and well-adjusted, vote Republican.

It's almost as if the Democrat Party is the party of grievance and misery and mental illness and scapegoating others for your huge failures.

Below, he uses the term "Village Democrats." He doesn't mean that they're part of the Village People, who of course have realigned and now support Trump.

He uses the metaphor of "The Village" to describe risk-adverse, controlling people -- Democrat Establishment and Regime people -- and "The River" to describe risk-taking, entrepreneurial explorer types.

It turns out that young men are turned off by neuroticism, hysteria, weakling grievance-mumbling, and efforts to control them.

Meanwhile, unlike during the Bush Era, moderate men might think it's those Villagey Democrats who want to police their speech and their behavior. And that they're just generally unchill, turning everything into a "political conversation". Last year, Trump fared better among voters who don't consume a lot of political news, which liberals like to read as a sign that these voters were poorly informed. But that could also indicate that Trump was winning the more apolitical, "normie" vote.
Obviously, this mapping is far from perfect. Some Silicon Valley leaders are free speech hypocrites and they mix uncomfortably with other Republicans on issues like tariffs and immigration. And although some Riverians see themselves as classical liberals who want government to get out of the way, others are also not so keen on democracy. This faction of the River tends to believe in the "great man theory of history" and they don't want to let anything stand in their way.
Still, I don't doubt that some of Democrats' problem with young men is that they're seen as what in the poker world we'd call "nits": neurotic, risk-averse, sticklers for the rules, always up in everyone's business.

And it's almost as if people who are mentally healthy do not want mentally ill people making decisions on their behalf.

What an inversion -- remember when mentally sane people made decisions on behalf of their mentally-incompetent patients? Now it's literally the other way around. The lunatics run the asylum.

True story, I knew a guy who ALWAYS heard voices. Says they were demons, and he spent the bulk of his adult life battling these demons.

He said it wasn't mental illness, there really were demons, and what he was doing was keeping them at bay. He believed, when he died his reward would be assured, given how much his battle was in service of God's Kingdom.

I cannot, and will not say he was wrong.

157 My son's soccer team held a parents vs kids soccer game yesterday. The weather was sunny and warm, but not too hot. My son and I had fun. I didn't run over any kids. I didn't hurt myself. Great success!

I did my Monday leg day routine before the game. For my top set of squats I did 320lbs x 3. Somehow I messed up the entry in my app though, so it suggested 190 x 3 for my second set. I was confused, but I did it. Later I saw my mistake and fixed the error. It then said my second set was supposed to be 265 x 3. Oops.

It was probably good I went light for my second set, because my legs weren't too tired to play soccer.

As I tell folks on my cancer boards...if you can't imagine even getting off the couch, set a goal to walk to the mailbox and back. That's it. The next day, add 10 steps. The next day, add 10 more. Keep doing that til you get to a mile. Once at a mile, keep adding 10-20 steps/day until you get a route you can do physically and lifewise every day.

Mine is 2.6 miles in 45 minutes while on active cancer treatment (sucked having to work back up after the broken toe this Christmas, but it was a Christmas present to not walk in this year's wild cold)...yours could be different, but find that number for your physical and mental health. It won't cure cancer or mental illness, but it will give you all the benefits you can get from fresh air, sunshine, movement, and being part of the real world.

It's also true to say, you don't start with diagnosing mental illness by drawing blood and looking at the numbers.

You listen to what the person is saying, and then the pee sigh chiatrist does his or her best to find a medication that MIGHT help with those symptoms. And then you wait for the patient to come back, and tell you whether it worked or not.

That's always going to make it no better than a guess. I've known many very good pee sigh chiatrists. I've known some quacks too.

On the plus side, I got the kids, bought her out of the house, she didn't want alimony, just split the community assets including my pension. Stayed cordial and I'd leave for work early so she could come by and see the kids on school mornings.

OK, funny story time. We were at a wedding and she said something that totally cracked me up, but of course you can't laugh at a wedding so I covered it up by coughing. I said something back to her and she started, um, "coughing." We're in the back of the place having a coughing fit and people are starting to look at us.

Mom says "oh, they are allergic to a lot of different kinds of flowers, and the smell in here is a little strong for them." And immediately about five of the little old ladies there start coughing. The staff came in and started taking the flowers out.

Of course after everyone else left, Taylor and I just lost it.

Could be. Lots of societal things contributing to that. Younger folks not being able to find work makes marriage less attractive. The seeming glorification of female promiscuity makes them less willing to marry young.

Shut off the water intake, drain a little water from the heater, take the valve off and soak it for a while in CLR (i.e., dilute HCl) to remove lime scale.

Then put it back on. Most likely it'll work fine.

They MUST go through the questions, and document the answers. So when they ask, for example, the suicide question, and you say no, then go out and jump off a building, they can't be sued.

They didn't really like that concept.
TBH - in 15 yrs I've only met one woman who sparked any interest. But I'm Catholic and didn't have a declaration of nullity yet and couldn't pursue it.

Official stats are that a large majority of all divorces are triggered by the woman. Among college educated, it is higher up to 80 to 90 percent. Given that a large chunk of the ones men initiate are due to abandonment or abuse by the mother you have a problem.

Their are grandkids now to visit with and have sleepovers at Papa's, seeing their excitement in discovering the little things- bugs and butterflies and all that.

Very much so. But bottom line, you do what is necessary for your kids. How you feel is irrelevant, you do what needs to get done. Deal with the feelings, including loneliness, however you need to, working out, hobbies, seeing your kid having a sense of security and a minimum of drama.
