David Ligare is known for his historically informed, narrative, and realistic paintings. David paints neo-classical myths inspired by the theories of Pythagoras and Polykeitos. Greek landscapes and architecture, and Californian coastal scenes are additional subjects of his paintings. His oil paintings differ from photorealism in their non-ironic nature.

Went to a town of 332, Lucas Kansas, that is devoted to artists of second careers. I met NotSoThoreau there at the Garden of Eden site. This is a carved limestone log cabin, furnished with repurposed scrap lumber. There are over 200 concrete allegorical figures in a lattice around the house.
We went to a gallery of art with local artists making art inside. Not my style, mostly, but interesting. The one piece of art that really captured my attention was a picture of 3 Easter Island Moai perched on a Kansas hill. As they were made of fiberglass, the Kansas weather tore them apart quickly, but it was a striking image. Lucas has a stand-alone public bathroom covered in mosaics, stones, and other art objects. It would not be out of place in a mind-bending drug-induced design contest in California. But a good concept, carried off with brio. We then had a lunch in the local art cooperatives store, with a two table lunch counter sandwiched into the store. Their website is SwitchgrassCoop.com. The Independent: Fewer Americans are moving to Florida and Texas, new report claims. Fewer Americans are moving to Florida and Texas, new data has shown, as higher cost of living, economic uncertainty and increasing risk of natural disasters causes concern.
Canadians are selling their snowbird condos in Florida. Arizona too from what I've read. If i was Canadian i wouldn't give the US a cent. Wait till all the doctors move out of those states and the hospitals close. Why a young woman would live in either of those states is beyond me. Liberal Floridian women I know are either trying to find a way out of the state economically, or trying to find safe industries/jobs in which to work to stay in FL for their families/kids/aging parents. Most are absolutely miserable and loathe DeSantis, Republicans, Florida, and rich white males. Living in FL as a vocal liberal woman means you are bullied, antagonized, ostracized, terrorized, and economically demonized into silence and compliance, if not outwardly assaulted like I was. I would rather live in any state with freezing-cold weather, than in any state ruled by nazi-wannabees with freezing-cold hearts Posted by: Intercepted DU Transmissions brought by the Intrepid AoS Liaison at April 28, 2025 10:09 AM (JCZqz) 124
Beautiful painting but static. I note that the artist's work is very hard-edged, which robs it of a certain realism. My mentor taught me to always soften edges and that hard edges on humans were "the mark of an amateur." Bodies in nature always have slightly rounded edges, it's what gives them depth. Still, it's quite lovely.

Posted by: Its Go Time Donald ========= Donald, to be nice, there is such a phenomenon known as seasonal issues in sampling as in better weather means a greater Dem sampling than GOP. GOP is out doing things as married people with kids skew toward the GOP. Shut ins and singles skew a bit (depends on gender) toward Dems. So, typically the GOP polls worse during late spring and summer months than the Dems and then magically the polls unf*ck themselves in Sept. To be even more nice, pollsters wanting on TV to pimp their services rarely if ever talk about their sampling techniques and their problems in taking that particular frame for a poll. To be controversial means screen time with media; to be boringly consistent, no screen time. Posted by: whig at April 28, 2025 10:34 AM (ctrM5) 211

One sign of an imperial government is that it does what it wishes with whole populations. It can shift some here; move some there. It can deport some there; import some here. Who will say “No” when facing armed might? Authoritarian governments can pretty much do what they wish to do. The motives behind moving whole populations via executive fiat break down into two main categories. One is to prevent revolution and unrest by moving and quarantining what are considered indigestible peoples in order to weaken their resistance to the powers that be. . . But there is a second reason for moving people around, and that is to foster revolution by actively promoting unrest. The goal is to achieve “fundamental transformation” of a country by tearing down existing structures, replacing them with a new order of government. . . . >>TRUMP APPROVAL DROP IS A PSYOP
Duh. Step 1: 100 days in a row since Trump sworn in: "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!" Ignore any success because -- LOOK! -- the sky is falling! Step 2: Do a poll to see how many Americans now believe the sky is falling. Step 3: Declare with great seriousness that Trump is a failure because he has not yet stopped the sky from falling, and worse, he really needs to do a better job at communication his plans and policy for stopping the sky from falling yada yada yada. “While I don't think this is being orchestrated”
Could do a whole thread on orchestration of destructive behaviour, activities, and substances. You’re soaking in it. They have it down to a literal science. One of the problems generally, all the shit they come up with to demoralize, kill, or incapacitate an enemy during war, is deployed on the citizenry, sooner or later. And they have some high tech and low tech methods. Posted by: Common Tater at April 28, 2025 10:58 AM (3hjQC) 296

Contracts are where the innocents get shorn on their wool if they don't have their own contract attorney. Want to monetize your idea, leave the company, wait a bit, then create it. Don't create it on corporate time and dime.
Posted by: whig One of the most distasteful assignments I had as a corporate paralegal: An employee died who had a couple of patents, but he had never signed an agreement with the company stipulating that the company owned the patents. So I was tasked with writing a letter to his widow requesting that she transfer those patents to the company. I did manage to write the letter, but I don't remember how the matter turned out. Bwa ha ha, a Cruise to Haiti. In the 70's we took a Thanskgiving cruise to Haiti from Ft. Lauderdale and what a shock it was. We toured Port Au Prince in a taxi too - yikes.
The trip back was very rough and everyone was queasy for the big meal. I regularly get queasy, but for some reason as a pre-teen, I wasn't that time. In port, the local urchins swam around the cruise ship and American's tossed coins in the water and the kids would catch them and put them in their mouths like chipmunks. Interesting. The pose, however, is that of a model told to "hold the bow up, like you're shooting the sky". I'm just an amateur, but the pose is NOT what you would look like having just loosed an arrow into the sky. The hand being down was so off-putting I had to comment.
